Ramenhotep was actually analyzing Cyran. I was hoping to try influencing him with this next check since a fellow scholar seemed Ramenhotep's best chance. I'll wait to see if Ramenhotep learned anything about Cyran before making any checks.

Do we really want to try influencing yet. May pay to find out what they are already going for so we don't get them to bid against each other rather than against the Aspis?

Oops.

Previously:

Ramenhotep learns that one could impress Cyran by demonstrating knowledge of the greater universe with Knowledge (planes). Someone that succeeds at a Knowledge (nobility) or Profession (merchant) check can appeal to Cyran’s devotions to the Prophecies. Alternatively, those that are canny can use Bluff to bewilder the accomplished wizard, whose interest in Material Plane matters is minimal.

@Bulgo: Ramenhotep wasn't influencing, he was Analyzing to figure out which skills could be used to influence Cyran. But once we learn how to influence someone, I see no reason to wait.

Ramenhotep doesn't think he has the right knowledge to impress Cyran, but he keeps talking to the elven chap to figure out more about his personality. "Well, the Prophecies and different planes and all that is interesting sure, but what's your specialty exactly?"

Trying to discover a Strength of Cyran:

Imagine, what revenue a quarter like this means. And also what kind of favors one can grant. Hard gold is the way to pay for wares, but to aquire the best deals, well it is the word, the deed, the promise that wins it! Especially if you would aquire... Workings end!" District added

What district are you encouraging her to pursue?

"Well met Celidrian Duskwalker", the elderly Vayde says with a visible cunning in his eyes. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

Educated discussions of philosophy and religion intrigue Vayde, and one would be smart to use Knowledge (religion) in influencing the elder. Alternatively, discovering Vayde’s mood by using Sense Motive or Diplomacy work equally as well for inquisitive characters. Knowledge (nobility) can also be used by those showing due respect to the Drumish familial patriarch.

***

Despite his reputation for cowardice, Bulgo learns there's a few things Temel pushes back again.

Temel despises members of the Exchange, and those who openly indicate their affiliation with the Pathfinder Society faction take a –4 penalty on checks to influence him.

***

Irith merely smiles and nods slightly at Ottalia's recognition. She seems to look at the Sheylnite in a new light.

Irith takes great pride in what she’s accomplished while governing Alabastrine. Anyone that applauds her previous efforts as lord-councilor gains a +4 bonus on influence attempts against her.

***

The elf is polite enough, barely, when Ramenhotep makes his introduction but the halfling struggles to get any useful information on Cyran.

***

The lord-councilor doesn't speak a word but she glances at Felicitas, seemingly intrigued by her suggestion. After a long pause she nods in agreement.

Two influence earned with Irith toward Working End.

***

As Temel's brunch begins to come to a close, Hegio, the Resplendent Bureaucracy representative, clears his throat as he refers to a clipboard.

"The current high bidders for each district are:"

#1 The Courts of Abstinence: Temel Passad
    #2 The Luminous Wharf: Myrosype
    #3 Prophet’s Burg: Myrosype
    #4 Scriptum: Vayde Petronax
    #5 Working End: Irith Nomzamo

Hearing that Myrosype is the high bidder on two different districts, and Cyran on none, Kel decides that Cyran needs to be influenced to outbid Myrosype on one of them.. and he casts a message spell and advises his friends of his intent, while the others need to be convinced to keep their bids up on the ones they are currently high bidders on.

in the listing of districts, two of them have " in front of them... what does this indicate? Also, does the statement at the end about the contents of warehouses being forfeit to the controller refer to the last district on the list? (ie working end?).

Now Vayde is a religious man and enjoys the occasional philosophical discussion? Let me talk to him during the next event. I made the slide, but I'm not sure about that text, they are all copy and pastes - or sometimes transcriptions from this thread, so we can keep track of stuff.

"I'll see if I can find anymore out about Temel, and any particular influences we can use on him - and which areas he is most interested in - sounds like the Courts are his area of focus. He was more in this for the prestige of bidding wasn't he, so trying to get him to bid for two areas may be stretching things."

Does everyone get the +2 on Temel influences in the future, or only those who made the check? Bulgo got close enough that with an aid-another he would get it. Given all the message spells and such, I'm hoping we will have passed enough information around to let everyone get the bonus.

Sorry, you have to make the check to impress Temel on your own.

Nighttime heralds the welcoming of the party to Vayde Petronax’s temporary estate in Kerse. The event is held in a vivacious ballroom. Servants offer the party a variety of costumes and allow them to select whichever ones appeal to them most. These costumes represent dozens of deific servants, from demons to devils to psychopomps and angels.

Everyone can select an appropriate costume. If you have at least 1 rank in Knowledge (religion) or Knowledge (planes) you can specify a particular outsider that they wish to imitate. The costumed nature of the gala grants a +2 circumstance bonus of Bluff checks, and imparts a –4 penalty on all Sense Motive checks.

Vayde is interested in the reasoning behind each attendee’s costume choice. Anyone that succeeds at a DC 18 Perform (act, oratory, or comedy) check or Knowledge (planes) check provides a sufficiently entertaining or well-informed answer to satisfy Vayde. This grants a +2 bonus on all influence checks against Vayde for the rest of the scenario.

Felicitas why did you make all three rolls? Everyone can attempt an influence or discovery on a target of their choice.

However when he tries to put on a celestial voice it really doesn't come across well.

"It seemed like a natural choice.." he tries to explain to Vayde.

He will take the opportunity offered by the party to try and impress Cyran. He is not up on the bidding at the moment, so suggesting that he bid on Prophet’s Burg seems a smart move.

"Surely controlling such an important area would allow you to influence events that would help move forward the prophecies!" he points out. "As well as providing useful intelligence for your off-plane mercantile contacts." Bulgo looks really impressed with the elves contacts.

"How innovative of you to think of extending merchant activity to completely other worlds. You are clearly a leader who should control Prophet's Burg."

Free of preconceived notions of sensuality and sexuality, at such a fine event as this, we should all be free to express ourselves as we wish.. within the limits of social convention to some extent at least..." "Well, Lord-Councillor!" Ramenhotep says in greeting as he hobbles over to Irith. "You've done a fine job running the city so far, if you'll accept the complement. I should hate to see you lose any of the districts to these good-for-nothings and I hope you can maintain the whole city, wouldn't that be grand! What are your plans, if you don't mind my asking? The Society would be interested in supporting you, should you maintain control of the city...."

That was the result from someone's analyze discovery on Vayde. Analyze tells you all of the skills that can be used to influence a particular NPC but not which ones are more or less effective. You can use religion, sense motive, diplomacy, or nobility to influence him. You need to complete weaknesses and strengths discovery checks to narrow down which option is the best.

Just to clarify: you don't need to find all the strengths and weaknesses in order to influence someone. We already analyzed Vayde and know what skills work for him so Ramenhotep will try to influence him at the upcoming event. I think it would be a waste for anyone else to spend another event finding his weaknesses/strengths when we could just analyze someone else and find out how best to influence them.

"Cyran and Vayde are apparently the ones with the most resources - if we could find a way to interest them they would be the best bet."

Agreed. But if they people use the aid another option, that might be helpful too. I mean reach a 10 could be more manageable than going for broke

Yeap, but knowing which skills are the ones to target is also helpful. There are only four of them and five of us. With three rounds left to analyze and influence we don't have a mass load of time to waste. And a failed roll is as much a waste as anything, I agree.

Are we ready to move on to the next event?

I'm back now and ready to go!

"Right. Then I'll try to talk to Vayde at the next event."

Moving on it is!

Late into the afternoon the following day, Irith invites the bidders and the party to a gilded banquet chamber within her lavish estate. She hosts an extravagant feast, serving 16 courses of rare and expensive delicacies from around the world. Between each course there's plenty of time for the guests to mingle and talk amongst themselves.

The frequent arrival of new courses interrupts conversations and makes some methods of influencing bidders more difficult. Diplomacy and Knowledge checks to influence bidders take a –2 penalty during the feast.

One of Irith’s most unusual offerings is a plate of poached chuul tentacles. Even after cooking, these tentacles contain a minor amount of paralytic venom. The servers confirm that, if eaten correctly, the poison is only enough to provide strange sensations on the inside of the mouth as a part of the dining experience.

Anyone that wants to impress Irith can try one of the tentacles. This requires a DC 17 Fortitude save, a DC 18 Profession (cook) check, or a DC 22 Knowledge (nobility) check to eat it without any ill effects. This grants the character a +2 bonus on all influence checks against Irith for the rest of the scenario.

Everyone can attempt an influence or discovery check.
