You walk across the town and reach Kriegler Manor within minutes. This clapboard, saltbox-style house is the largest home in town. Built on a barren hill, the building has a two-story facade that slopes down to a single-story rear with the large, protruding chimney of a centrally placed hearth. The house seems inviting, and much better maintained than Ravenmoor’s other buildings.
The festival has not started yet, town folks is still preparing the decoration and setting up the dance floor
Trellan Nimblefingers |
Trellan walks up to the door and knocks. If a servant answers, he says "My good man/woman! I am called Trellan, and these are my compatriots! We would like a short word with the mayor of this fine town, in regards to a missing person that he might be able to help us find! May we enter?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
If the mayor himself answers, he will slightly alter the phrasing accordingly. :)
Trellan Nimblefingers |
"Excuse me sir... why should we leave the town? The festival is about to start! And we really need to speak to your brother the mayor... it is an urgent matter involving a missing person. He could save a life if he can provide us with some decent information!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
GM Baerlie |
"Be off, I say!" you hear the same voice from above.
Suddenly the front door opens and a friendly man steps out. "Hello, my name is Andretti Kriegler. I'm the mayor of this town. How can I help you? Please ignore my brother." he asks. He's well dressed, groomed and about 50 years old. His hair is already gray above the ears, but the rest is dark brown. He smiles at you.
Trellan Nimblefingers |
"Ah, my good mayor, it is an honor to meet you! I am Trellan, and these are my traveling companions. We are of the Pathfinder Society, and have been tasked with finding a missing man, a tax collector by the name of Elias Kyle. We were told that you might be able to give us some sort of information, and you may even be saving the man's life if you can tell us anything useful in locating him. Your... brother? seems to want us to leave town though, why would that be, if you don't mind me asking?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Sweet roll! He'll love me. LOL
GM Baerlie |
Kriegler is now friendly
"Welcome to Ravenmoor. Yes, my brother does not like strangers. And to be honest, from time to time I'm using his mood to send away people I don't want to talk to if I'm busy. But the monthly Founder's Festival is happening today and every visitor is welcome in Ravenmoor. This is something he has to learn." Kriegler says with a sigh.
"Oh well, that tax collector. I remember a man, his name was Elrus Knyle or something. He came to me about a month ago, at the day of the previous Founder's Festival. Ravenmoor hasn't paid taxes for some time. This guy came into town and wasted no time making a fool of himself - ordering the townsfolk around and making unreasonable demands when he should have ust come to me. Once Knyle approached my manor I told him that I need time to scrape the funds together to pay the taxes in full and invited him to stay in my house and enjoy that month's festival while he waits. Unfortunately he had little interest in what he called backwoods hootenannies. But he did take me up on my offer of board, though, and went to bed early. The next morning I paid the taxes in a locked coffer and the man left town just before dawn." Kriegler tells his story.
Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Makos |
untrained sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 20
HOLY S%**. I had to delete a bunch of RP stuff when I previewed because I had just assume I failed LOL.
Makos stares down the lying mayor.
[sarcasm]"All of the gold went in a locked box and disappeared with a missing man. Convenient."[/sarcasm]
"Tell me mayor, where exactly did the dragon eat the tax collector?"
GM Baerlie |
"I have no idea what you are talking about. There are no dragons, Sir." Kriegler answers to Makos' question. He sighs and admits "I found the tax collector to be somewhat untrustworthy. When I returned from the feast, I caught Knyle raiding my liquor cabinet. I got enraged and gathered the funds at once and sent Knyle on his way. He left my house in the middle of the night and I didn't see him after that."
"Honestly, I’m not surprised to learn that he did not return to Magnimar. I’ve heard rumors that he lit out for Riddleport, in which case I fear the taxes are as good as gone. But the fact apparently remains that we still owe a payment. You strike me as much more trustworthy agents, frankly, but I’m afraid we don’t have the full payment available to pay the taxes again. I’ll extend to you the same offer I extended to Elias, though — enjoy the festival and tonight’s feast, stay in my home, and I’ll see what I can scrape together from what remains of the town’s funds to pay at least part of what we owe. Perhaps at a later date Magnimar might send you north to Riddleport to find out what became of that scoundrel."
Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Aldegar |
SM: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Aldegar is no help.
We appreciate your hospitality. We will certainly see what we can do to recover the funds after the festival.
Makos |
Makos leads the group to a quiet place to sit and have some drinks. He buys a jug of ale, bottle of wine, or similarly portable large quantity and grabs enough glasses for everyone.
While he is walking he tries to think of useful information about the town.
kn local: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Once everyone is settled, and they are suitably alone, he addresses the group.
"This whole thing stinks. I know the Mayor is lying. I don't know what he is lying about. There is more to this."
Trellan Nimblefingers |
"The beautiful lady is correct, I think, on both fronts, oh ho! That mayor might show his hand if we stay there, but if he shows us a blade, it could turn out badly, yes yes? Quite the quandry! My vote is to take up the mayor's offer, if only to draw out his truth!"
Trellan idly juggles a ball, a ring, and a bottle of what looks alarmingly like alchemist's fire.
perform (comedy): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
He effortlessly stands and juggles the items around the heads of his allies, almost dropping the alchemist's fire right on the lovely Bryne's head before deftly flipping it back into the air using only one finger.
"Oh ho, I'm getting better, I think!"
Aldegar |
"I agree. Either he is truthful and we get a good night of rest before continuing our quest, or he will show his true colors and we will be one step closer to finding our man - assuming the dwarf here doesn't kill him before we can make him talk."
Aldegar absentmindedly picks at a piece of bread, and consumes only a little ale.
"We should be ready for the worst. I'll have Bo stand guard tonight."
He encourages Bo to lay down and rest in preparation for the night ahead.
Trellan Nimblefingers |
"Well then, sounds like we're settled! Let's return to the mayor's house this evening and take him up on his offer! For now..." Trellan looks around the room, spotting someone he's interested in chatting up, "I'm going to go give that young lady a bit of a show.." and off he goes to attempt to impress the patrons in the corner of the tavern.
Perform (comedy): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
GM Baerlie |
Makros knows that the town does not offer any guest rooms. If you don't want to sleep outside maybe you should accept the mayor's offer. Although the people seem to be strange to you they are very nice. The town itself is small, just a few houses with a lot of farmland between them.
The map above will show you where you are and where you find other buildings in Ravenmoor, you can explore the town until the festival begins
While you drink ale, wine and other stuff Tellan deciedes to have a flirt with a young lady in the tavern. She claps her hands while Trellan juggles all kinds of dangerous items.
Trellan Nimblefingers |
When the evening is upon the group, Trellan finishes his flirting, promising to see the young woman again in the bar within the next few days. He then returns to his friends and suggests they make their way to the mayor's house.
GM Baerlie |
You head back to th mayor's house. On the way to the manor you see that most of the villagers are on their way to festival ground north of the town. You pass the festival ground which is already decorated with lanterns. Also a small stage is set up and tables, small pavillions and picnic quilts are set up around the stage.
Once at the manor the mayor's brother tells you that he's already at the festival and about to open it officially.
GM Baerlie |
You head back to the festival grounds. Unlit piles of wood for bonfires stand around the field’s perimeter, and an open space in the center is cleared and ringed with benches for the festival’s games and competitions. It’s unusual for visitors to come to these festivals, but once they’re underway the joy of the event quickly overwhelms the villagers’ natural reticence toward strangers, and for the few hours the festival and feast persist, visitors are almost made to feel at home.
The people are happy and celebrate the founders festival with a lot of food and wine. You see tha mayor near the stage, preparing to open the festival officially with a speech.
You also see Viorec Korzah and his son sitting on a picnic quilt near the stage.
Bryne |
Bryne situates herself to hear the mayor's speech and sips from a cup of festival wine.
She nudges Aldegar and says with a small smile,
"There's your friend" while nodding her head towards Viorec Korzah's son.
Aldegar |
Aldegar looks where Bryne was indicating, and rubs his arm where the little beast was attached.
"I hope this isn't the sort of event where people usually bring their pets..."
GM Baerlie |
Aldegar does not see any stirge pets around. The mayor's speech is about the community and what the village achieved in the last month. Everybody sits or stands silently during the speech.
After a few minutes it's over and the people start to walk around and talk to each other. Some of them approach you and offer you food or more drinks. The people seem to prepare for the festival events. Also the bonfire is lit up.
