Savage Worlds Training Wheels PDF
The Science Fiction Companion will be needed for the equipment and such.
PM me if you need help getting the additional materials.
Additional Starting Information
Your mercenary/pirate gang aren't that rich yet, nor wellknown, most of the crews money went to purchasing the ship you fly now. Despite signing up for the battle that is about to take place, your gear is modest. You will start up with a reserve of 4k worth of goods. Priced in the companion. Everyone will also start with Combat Armor at no additional cost.
You may take the 'Geared Up" Edge, and I will allow for the entire crew to pool the money to get something for the entire group or ship. This can extend to better mechs, vehicles, weaponry or modifications to the ship.
Additional Ship Information
Ship Guns: Respectively, Small/Medium/Large translates to Light/Medium/Heavy. Once the ship is chosen, you may collectively decide what to place on the ship that is listed in the companion at no additional cost to the crew.
Ship will come with an rudimentary AI. This AI will act like a basic version of EDI from ME3. This AI can take control of the ship when players leave, you can give the ship instructions when away, and it can do rudimentary self defense operations. This AI is upgrade-able to multiple levels to take on additional commands and operations.

Their both looking good so far. Do let me know of the changes when you make them.
So far I got the Nebula map up. Getting the solar system map going next, then I will have the galactic map after that.
I wanted to ping you guys for how much detail you want on the solar systems and such. Will planet names and planet order be enough? or do you want a more in depth look at it?

Cool! Here's a brief write-up for a species I had an idea for, using the rules in the book; let me know what you think. If you prefer I use an established species from the book that's fine too, just figured I'd check.
The Vaedi also have their issues, however. Having evolved on a homeworld filled with harsh terrain and dangerous predators, they grew to be quick but frail, developing few bodily defenses against beasts that could kill them outright regardless. They also have a societal structure based around "clans," encompassing both genetic family as well as allies who are welcomed into the group. Within this group, Vaedi are fiercely loyal to the point of self-sacrifice; however, this loyalty quickly leads to danger if an insult or injury is dealt to the individual or another member of their clan. Vaedi have been known to go to great lengths seeking retribution, and occasionally they take matters into their own hands. These traits seem to exhibit some sort of "genetic memory," as even Vaedi raised away from their homeworld or society have a predisposition toward fierce loyalty and passionate vengeance.
Perhaps most interesting is the importance of duality in Vaedi culture. To the Vaedi, there are two sides to all things, good and evil, right and wrong, light and dark. These sides are not always clear-cut as one good and one bad, and often the opposites are viewed as necessary complements to one another, symbiotic concepts rather than antagonists. It is unclear if this interest in duality rose before or after the Vaedi's physiological evolution, but the two have become inseparably intertwined--their own duality of body and mind.
Today on the galactic stage, the Vaedi have spread far and wide, traveling much as humans have to all corners of known space. They have done their best to integrate with other species and cultures--Hywaithe Akkemon, the celebrated Vaedi diplomat, spearheaded the Open Clan Initiative that provided transportation and funding for Vaedi emigrants to visit new worlds and learn about their cultures--to limited success. The Vaedi have remained highly clannish and insular, although on a number of worlds most "clans" revolve around social or business relationships rather than biological ones.
Of course, many Vaedi are also viewed as natural soldiers, with their disposition toward quick hands and eyes and their ability to wield two weapons at once. A number of young Vaedi have taken up as mercenaries and pirates in recent years, hoping to capitalize on the money to be made fighting for pay. Efforts to break the Vaedi convention of using two weapons have thus far failed, and no Vaedi has ever been seen using a rifle effectively, but they make fierce and deadly close-range combatants.
VAEDI RACIAL TRAITS
Ambidextrous Edge: Thanks to their strange nervous system and superhuman agility, Vaedi do not possess "off" hands, working just as well with either side of their body. (2 points)
Attribute Increase: Vaedi are very quick, and start with a d6 in Agility. (2 points)
Frail: Vaedi have forms that are fast and lean, and they focus on avoiding harm rather than taking it. They have a -1 to Toughness. (-1 point)
Keen Senses: Vaedi have adapted to a homeworld filled with dangerous predators, and as such they are very perceptive. They get a +2 to Notice rolls involving sight or hearing. (2 points)
Loyal Hindrance: All Vaedi learn from a young age to care for their clan--both those born into it and those who they welcome in. They are fiercely loyal to their allies. (-1 point)
Quirk Hindrance: Vaedi have an odd fixation on duality, and while their physiology makes them skilled at using both hands simultaneously, they also find themselves resorting to it obsessively. Although in regular situations they can focus enough to use one hand at a time, they always prefer to use two, and in combat they have no choice--Vaedi cannot wield two-handed weapons or shields, and prefer dual-wielding over all other options. (-1 point)
Vengeful Hindrance: Vaedi have a reputation for flighty passions, one taken from years of fierce retribution for slights against them. Fortunately, though, most Vaedi won't resort to extreme violence or killing over injustices. (-1 point)
EDIT: If allowed, I'd also like to include the Cyber Resistant Hindrance as a racial trait for the Vaedi--reflecting their physiology and nervous system rejecting any sort of foreign "enhancements" that might throw off their balance--and add on a +1 to Parry from their quick coordination. I'm also considering whether Two-Fisted as a free Edge instead of the Notice bonus would make sense; I didn't know if it would be too much or not. Let me know what you think of it.

@Loup Blanc: With those additional traits you want to add to the race, would it still remain at 2 points total or would it be sitting higher then that?
So far though I'm really liking it also appreciate the effort with the write up on the race (Makes it easier for me to incorporate them into the game!), and it will work as is without the additional traits you want to add.
@Rio Wolf: Looking good. Also could you provide me a link of an example image of how star wars does theirs? I haven't been able to find the right example you may have been speaking of.
Vinsomner |
@scranford: If no techy, you could have your very own BB-8! or R2-D2 with all the sass!
@Artemis: From what I've read and learned from the system it's simple and easy to get into. The training wheel links I sent are a really good place to get your feet wet before diving into the books. But I'll get you that email now.

This is Gaming Rangers submission:
Y8-4S (Wyatt) I wasn't happy with the construct template so I used the race builder to modify it, it still comes out to +2. Anyway he is not complete but I want ed to get it in to see what you thought. I still need to pick a Vow hindrance from the construct background. Also still working on hindrances and Edges from creation. Anyway I am not set on anything so don't mind changing anything and appreciate you input.
Description: Y8 is about 2 feet tall and weak physically, but a master engineer.

Alrighty so the list of players who applied are as follows:
Scranford - Lincoln Kennedy
Loup Blanc - Tekumsah La'Awethikah
Gaming Ranger - Y8-4S
Matthias - Rio Wolf
Artemis Moonstar - Not yet Submitted
DekoTheBarbarian - Not yet Submitted
Irnk, Dead-Eye's Prodigal - Not yet Submitted
Sach - Not yet Submitted
Shady_Motives - Not yet Submitted
Tenro - Not yet Submitted
Just a favor to ask everyone, if they can make it so their posts have their Current Wounds (0/3), Toughness, Parry show. Would make things easier for me as a GM.
Also, on Y8-4S talk about edges and hindrances! Hot damn! Though I'm really liking it.
Another note. You all should collaberate on how the characters got together, an Idea what made all your characters either join forces or what not to go mercanary/pirate. Also decide which you want to call yourselves, Mercenary or Pirates! I'm opening the discussion tab for the characters listed below. I will help with the background decision in discussion tab to help keep the recruitment clear.
Allowed in Discussion
Scranford - Lincoln Kennedy
Loup Blanc - Tekumsah La'Awethikah
Gaming Ranger - Y8-4S
Matthias - Rio Wolf

Sorry, been keeping my fiance calm what with her surgery coming up tomorrow. She absolutely hates this kind of stuff, even for small ones.
I'll get what I can done tonight. Was thinking of trying to build my own race using the points and such, but I think I'd rather go at least 1 game and get used to the system before I make one. Wanted to try and figure out how to craft a race that had a very broad spectrum of vision (think Predator, only built in biologically).
Question! how much of what kind of combat should I expect? I don't know if I should be trying to build a mostly mech pilot, or an infantryman, kind of thing.
