Male Human Sorcerer (Eldritch Scrapper)/1

Using Guidance to give myself a bonus, because seriously, I should be using that every time I make a skill check, and I don't know why I keep forgetting I have it.

Kn. Religion: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 = 9

...wow. That's... I have no words. Just... fail. Literally anything else would've beat that. Just... just fail.

Ford moved in closer between the ruined pews. "This must've been the pledging room... we have something similar back at the abbey." he mused quietly. "In times of short resources, dire straights, or need of guidance, we come to pray for aid from Torag in it."

Ford moved closer, trying to squint at the altar ahead and frowning. Such a state of disrepair and ruin. That's where the altar should be... but it looks defaced and wrecked. Was this the result of age and overgrowth... or dissent to Droskar? He shook his head in shame. How could this have happened?

Pointing his morningstar at the altar's remains, Ford hummed quietly to himself with his eyes closed, before jabbing the mace forward. A sudden gush of water poured forth from nowhere above it, waving back and forth in synch with Ford's waving. "A quick wash. The first step on a long list of tasks..." he sighed.

Casting Create Water to wash over the altar to try to clean it a little. 4 gallons ought to be enough, right?

Seeing him start to clean the altar, Zova coughs noticeably. "With all due respect Ford, for now, I believe we should focus on finding the materials to create the cure for this plague."

Realizing she sounded harsh she walks up to Ford and puts a hand on his shoulder. "I know it must pain you to see this sacred place in a state of disarray, and I will be glad to help you clear it and sanctify the area... but after we get the town cured. We have no time at the moment. Tell you what, I am off duty every Sunday and once every two Stardays. I will come here whenever I can to help you repair this forge and by Abadar's golden fist, it WILL be done... but let us focus on the task at hand for now."

With that she searches the room for anything that might be useful.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Hah! First Ford gets a nat one, then I get a nat one.

Male Human Sorcerer (Eldritch Scrapper)/1

Ford sighs, frowning as he looked back at Zova with a nod. "I know... but as we're here, I'd hoped that a little cleaning might earn Torag's favor. We could certainly use it out here."

Stepping forward, Ford inspected around the altar, keeping an eye out. If the forges were close, perhaps a few ironbloom caps might be around here... and if they would be anywhere, it would be close to metal. "This place would make a good central hub while we're here. It seems easily defensible if needed, and if separated, we can regroup here."

Following the group, Hound has been quiet letting those that seem to know better take the lead in terms of knowledge. Keeping close to Ford, Hound was a little surprised when the he summoned water to clean the anvil. "Im sure your god will accept that the small cleansing you have performed is the best you could do at this time." Hound starts to nod his head when Lady Zova mentioned returning. "I will also agree to help in the reconstruction, I'm not a skilled craftsman like yourself. But I'm willing to do manual labor as necessary.

As Ford continues to head to the Anvil, Hound places himself by the other entrance to the room. With weapon held ready he places a slightly wolf like ear to the door.

Ford studies the impressions in the altar, curious to their purpose... was something... meant to be placed on them? Perhaps an addition of some sort?

His thoughts were interrupted as he looked back at hearing some sort of strange noise. Looking up, Ford squinted into the dark, before staggering back. "AH! Darkmantles!" He knew these well enough - he'd been ambushed by a pair before, and thankfully, Father Ambros was there to save him.

Dropping his torch and pulling up his morningstar, Ford furiously started to carve runes back into the weapon. But his eyes started to fail him. The room was growing... darker?

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

"...ah, right! Darkmantles know that spell! Hurry...!" Ford huffed out. No... a good weapon wouldn't do him much good here... unless... with the last little bit of light he had left, Ford made one minor alteration to the rune he was carving... and prayed it would work.

A minor whiff of wind informs him that he just barely missed getting hit by one of the darkmantles, no doubt trying to strike his head as he lowered it to focus on his carving.

Using 1 use of my Runeforging to carve Glowglyph into my morningstar. For 2 rounds, it'll glow like a torch or object imbued with the Light spell.

Darkness is a level 2 spell, the Light spell is level 0. So Light would have no effect.

With a growl Hound prepares to use his weapon on the first creature he feels grasping for him. Having only heard of these creatures in passing and with luck Ford seems to know more. "So whats the plan, these creatures don't seem to be the type that can be charged and pummeled to death."

Taking the moment to try and locate the source of the spell, Hound is overly paranoid at the moment.

Ford squints as he stumbles forward, trying to see where he's going. "They're darkmantles! They're hunters who prefer to strike in darkness! They've cast a Darkness spell on something, but I think they dropped it nearby! If we can find it and cover it, we can cancel out the spell! Mind the tentacles! They're try to crush you if they get a good grip!"

Ford cussed slightly in dwarven as he tried to seek out the stone. He could hear the sounds of struggle nearby, but they needed a moment to catch their breath.

...wait a minute! If he could just get close enough..! "Everyone close your eyes! NOW!" he ordered, before raising his morningstar into the air closest to the sounds of combat. "Mighty Forge! Grant me some of your light!" In a blinding flash that every so briefly pushes back the darkness, Ford's mace glowed bright and spread out, momentarily illuminating the space before growing dark again... and no doubt blinding anybody who saw it.

Going to try and get within a 5 foot range of both darkmantles and dispel the Glowglyph to make a blinding attack. It's a DC 14 Reflex save, or else blinded for 1d4 rounds.

Ford would likely know that they have blindsight. So IF the blinding attack worked, it would not help.

If you still want to take that action, I rule that it would light up things for anyone who risk the Blinding. So people can see where the stones and the Darkmantles are if they want to risk it. Still need to use Percent die if they want to hit them, but would not need a Perception (or guess).

I guess I did not word it well. When I said that Hound's attack "strikes down" one of them, I meant it was reduced to below 0 HP. So only one left.

Also Hound's attack on the one who was going to attack him was a readied action. It went off right before their attack this round. So Hound's next turn in round 2 (we are in round 1). His turn is now before Darkmantle go. That is shown in the Init order above.

Male Human Sorcerer (Eldritch Scrapper)/1

I... totally forgot about that. Nuts... well, then, yes, I'll go with what you said and use it to briefly illuminate the place to try and spot the stones. Since it doesn't work on me, I'll just try to find them after I do so. After that, I'll just try to toss myself on them to snuff out the dark. Or... just put them in my pocket. That'd work too, right?

Hound waits for the monster to act. The monster flies down and grabs hound, but Hound bites and rips off its head. The thing drops dead.

End of combat.

Male Human Sorcerer (Eldritch Scrapper)/1

No, that's what I wanted to do. I meant to say that, but... I'm slow. And dumb. But now I have two dark rocks in my pockets. How long do these last, by the by?

Based on what you know about darkness and Darkmantle, the spell on the rocks will last 2-5 mins.

Male Human Sorcerer (Eldritch Scrapper)/1

Then I would want to work fast if I wanted to use it as a smoke screen to get away. I'll hang onto them then. Never know when a random thrown rock will come in handy.

Ford managed to contain the darkened rocks in his pockets as he breathed a sigh of relief. "Well... that's a childhood trauma I wasn't expecting." He looked over at the others and nodded. "Thanks... sorry I wasn't much use there. I have... a bit of a history with the blighters. Clearly, I still have a bit of work to do with my runes..."

Ford looked around again, spying the door to the south. "Hrm... I wonder were that goes..."

The door leading into this chamber is shattered and broken. When Ford tries to open it, the door falls to the floor. The room beyond is in an equal state of disrepair. What was once a library is now a shattered mess with one corner being completely collapsed and dominated by a wide pool of stagnant water. Thick fungus grows on most of the books that still remain on the shelves lining the walls.

Don't forget you can move your token on the map.

Male Human Sorcerer (Eldritch Scrapper)/1

Ford blinked as the door fell over at his mere touch, withdrawing his hand slowly as he looks back. "...I swear, I don't know why this keeps happening." Ford stated, realizing this was the second door he'd touched that just fell over at his touch.

...come to think of it, had he opened a single door the right way since he'd arrived in Falcon's Hollow? ...that's a bad habit.

Ford stepped in to study the room, looking around and squinting at all the ruined books and fungi. Oh, Torag's bristles... so much lost knowledge. This room is going to take a while... he thought to himself, looking very forlorn at the loss of the books. Still, perhaps some of this survived. Moving closer to the books, Ford started to search the shelves, not only looking for anything that could be salvaged, but also for any traces of the ironbloom. True, they bloomed around forges, but they were close, and these were optimal fungi conditions...

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

I just had a thought: would Mending repair/restore these books? I don't know how damaged they are, but Mending does say it restores ruined and broken objects... probably not, but it would be amusing and curious.

Ford sees a book on top of one of the bookshelves, that looks like it is in good shape. Ford's moving around releases a puff of spores from the fungus.

Holding his breath, he reaches up again to try and grab the book, pulling it down to study the object and it's contents. "Seems one of them survived."

Yea. That means you took 2 con damage.

The book is beautifully illuminated and writing in Dwarven. A wood cover framed in metal adds to its beauty. It is filled with hymns to Torag. The book is a little oversized.

Ford placed the scroll back in the book as he held it up. "She's worth a good bit, I can say that much. Not sure how much exactly, but I know it's in impeccable condition, thankfully. This should be a good addition to the archives. Sadly, it seems out fungi are not here either. We can't be too far, though."

Ford moves past Alleran and runs his hands over the hinges, checking them before concentrating. Slowly, the hinges will start to fade and weaken under his touch, before rusting over and cracking. "Sometimes, it is better to break than build."

Using Artificer's Touch to try and damage the hinges on the door (I'm presuming I can touch them since the door swings outwards). I don't know how much it'll take, but I'm guessing not too much before they break. 3 uses left for the day. Also making a knowledge check to try and remove the door without making too much noise and not setting off anything if it is secretly hiding some kind of trap.

Kn. Engineering: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Artificer's Touch vs. hinges: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 51d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Ford quietly breaks the hinges and removes the door.

Door number 3 that Ford broke.

Using his right hand, Alleran places his fingers under the door and gently pulls the door towards himself. Steadying his effort with his left hand on the hinged edge of the door, he pulls out the door just far enough to to peak into the room.

This small chamber appears to be some sort of sitting room, complete with a single table and a pair of chairs, both in relatively good condition. Resting atop the table is a half-eaten crow next to a crude knife and a cracked mug. There is a door leaving the room to the right.

Checking for traps

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Alleran:
Alleran sees a net strung up near the ceiling full of junk. A trip rope to trigger the junk to be dropped is down just inside the door way.
Knowing that the rope is there allows you to by pass the trap.

Noticing the trip wire, he points it out to the others. "Take care. There is a trap suspended from the ceiling just inside the room. There is a trip wire near the floor. Let's get this door out and we can carefully proceed. I am interested to see how long ago this was set."
