The escort gets nervous at the question. My lord I do not know
At that time the a cart carring logs blocks the group forward and then there is another cart that appears behind you.
Players note
The cargo was loaded on two carts, carried by oxen. Each cart has driver and a co-driver if you will. The drivers are guiding the oxen down the street. The Co-Driver is armed with a heavy crossbow and servers to help the driver. There are a total of 12 crates with cargo for which you hired for. Each cart has 6 crates in it. I need to know who is riding with whom. BTW side note if you have the players Hand Book and want to change races to say such as drow or dragonborn I am ok with that. I will even say if you want to play eladrin or assimar that is ok.

I'll take the critical, but I only rolled a 16. The 20 came after my pluses, so it's not really a critical.

As Varis starts to reach into robes to get the papers. A shop keeper runs out[
Help their are two more bandits getting away! At this point two guards run to the shop. Varis hands the paper to the guard. The Captain takes the paper and reads it.
I am sorry for the treatment, I am High Captain Mordan. I serve his lordship Lord Cauldyth. If you all will come with me, I will escort you to the Lord Cauldyth.
The remain Soldiers mount up on the carts and others move the other carst and the bodies of the bandit. At that point the Soldiers that left come back.
We found this Sir and it appears the other bandits where priests.
The Soldier hands Mordan a disk of the Cult of Bane.
The Lord Cauldyth will want see this. If we have everyone we will proceed to Aithe Keep and your delivery will be complete.
Kolfax are you still with us?
DM Ashman |
As the group walks one the guards mumbles to Kolfax.
Yes the Cult of Bane is causing trouble. We could use some help.
As you approach the keep you met by a short man who is bald and he says Ah yes the swords I believe we owe you nothing He says to Varis.
We will take delivery for his Lord and the man attempts to swindle you.
DM Ashman |
The guard next to Kolfax says That is Turrin, he is the Lord's book keeper. He tried to line his pockets when he can. It seems your friend has taken care of him.
Turrin looks to the Captain of the Guard and say Well..
Captain of the Guard looks and say Yes the script promises them money for deliverce of the goods so we need to pay. Unless you want Lord Cauldyth to explain to the King Tristian why his swords are not here. We owe each man 1030 gold pieces for their delivery. I suggest you pay them before we see the Lord.
Turrin says Well I dont carry 3090 worth of gold on me. Take them to see Lord Cauldyth and will give them money there.
The Captain says You had better or the Good King will hear about this.
The group continues to make their way to the Keep. As you enter the main hall you see. Lord Cauldyth drinking.
Lord Cauldyth is a stout, musta- chioed, once mighty man of about fifty winters, whose brawn is going to fat. He wears a rich tunic, and bears a long sword scabbarded at his hip. He wordlessly scoops up heavily chased metal flagons from a side table, pours them full from a spar- kling row of crystal decanters, and offers one to each of you a drink, taking the last for himself.
My lord these are the men. The Captain says Cauldyth waves his hand and says I know who they are. My apologizes for Turrin he will be here shortly with the money we owe you. Please tell me of yourselves and your adventure to get here! He raises a glass to each of you.
DM Ashman |
Lord Cauldyth responds to Varis by saying
"There are priests, evil men, working hereabouts—even in Aithe, Goddess take them; they keep in hiding in the Wild Wood, where my men cannot meet them blade to mace and force them to stand and fight! These serpents serve the Dark God, Bane, and they're gathering enough strength to challenge all who rule these lands, even as the Northmen did, and take our lands one by one, over the years. All over Gwyn- neth and Alaron and, I've heard, even in the kingdoms of the Northmen, these foul priests are rising.
"It started with brigands, brigands who were organized and well- in- formed, and backed by these priests who fed them, hid them, and healed them when we came hunting.
"Then came the beasts, wild crea- tures the like of which we've never seen nor fought since the times of our grand- sires. We'd scarce hunted down the worst of those when undead rose to the attack—even our friends who'd fallen fighting the monsters only nights be- fore! So many of these gruesome 'grave- sends' still walk that the land itself seems to crawl and shiver some night came next. We heard of druids slain and their groves despoiled, local lords and farmers twisted or slain by fell magic, and more undead rising from it all to dance the tune of these new lords of the land, these skulkers in the dark, black-robed priests who proudly call themselves The Risen Cult, harrying the hard-working farm folk and busy merchant alike with....
He pauses for moment to gage the response from the group.
DM Ashman |
"The Goddess of old had horns and teeth and even disease to fight for her, to keep the balance. This 'Lady Chauntea,' who is our goddess now, is gentler. She needs adventurers to fight for her, even more than the Earth Mother needed those led by Tris- tan, now our High King. I need you; Aithe needs you; all the Moonshaes need you. Will you stand with us?" He smiles at Vairs and Lynore.
"I cannot promise victory, or even survival—but one way or t'other, bards will sing of you." Caulyth says to the group.
At that time Turrim shows up and brings several bags. I have your blood money He says to the group.
Lord Caud stands and yells How dare you! These hereos are here to help us and you insult them dog. You are herby dismissed from his majesty's service.
Turrim looks and says You will regret that Lord. Two guards move up to escort him before he can do say antyhing else.
Turrim looks at Varis as he is escorted out.
Each bag contains the gold promised.
1030 gp for each of you. you all gain level for the fighting you have done up till now. You may each buy one more magic item. You may buy one uncommon magic item. I will reveiw it and approve it. I am trying to keep to the module as much I can and it is filled Magic Items etc.
BTW the Year in the Realms is 1356 before the Time of Troubles
Kolfax Darkraven |
Kolfax considers his predicament for the moment, and decides that fighting for one cause is just as profitable as fighting for another.
"I too shall join your crusade. Your pay and your reward show you to be a man worth fighting for... a man of honor".
I'll get leveled up before the weekend is over.
