I think I'll throw in a submission. I would be using this alias. The stat-block is complete. Background/personal information are from another game, so need a re-write.

I'm usually good for one post a day. I'm recycling this alias, it's been in two other games that faded out.

If it matters, I own the AD&D version of this module. It's been awhile since I read it, though I remember quite a bit of the module.

Edit: I guess I'll include the stat-block in this post.

OK, re-write is done, character is complete. Going for the rogue slot, even though he's not a rogue. He has trapfinding/disabling skills.

Ok, I figured it was something like that.

I’d like to submit Eamch Stone for consideration. He’s a human monk (martial artist).

Background:

”Well met. I’m Eamch Stone. Yeah, that Eamch Stone. ‘The Vigilante.’ ‘The Working Man’s Guardian.’ ‘Pirate Bane.’ All that.” He smiled, as though laughing to himself at some private joke.

As the slender man sat across the table, he continued. ”The bartender said I was supposed to talk to you. You know, really talk to you. Because you can keep it to yourself.”

”So, I guess I’ll start at the beginning. The stories about me being a bricklayer’s son, or a brickmaker’s son, or even an orphan. All that’s made up by people who want me to be an everyman made good. I was born into a rich family. A really rich family. The name Stone comes from the family trade in imported marble and rare stone. My family is still loaded, though I don’t have a part in it anymore. I was a bit of a wild child. As a teen, my father tired of my antics and sent me off to a monastery to have me tamed. A dwarven monastery no less. Can you imagine anything more dull?”

Eamch paused to take a drink. ”Needless to say, it didn’t work. Sure, I learned to fight there. But the rest of the stuff they were going on about… Ki, inner peace, woobly goobly stuff.” Eamch gestures randomly, and then shakes his head. ”Anyway, after several years, I had enough and left. When I did, my father actually went through the expense to have a Sending spell cast to tell me I was disowned.” Eamch snorts in derision at the notion. ”Yeah, that was money I bet he was glad to part with.”

”So I bounced around for a while. Drinking, celebrating. At least as long as the money I had lasted. It was a dark night in Waterdeep when my money finally ran out. I’d sold most everything of value I had. I was getting desperate. I went outside and saw a drunk merchant staggering into a side street. I followed him. When I came to the entrance of the alley, I saw he was being mugged. I waded in, knocking out the thugs that had attacked on him. When everything went quiet, the merchant thanked me. He thanked me.” Eamch shook his head and laughed. ”I didn’t have the heart to tell him I followed him to mug him myself. We went back inside, and he bought me drinks. For a month.”

”That little episode gave me an idea though. I tried it when the merchant had to move on. Late at night, I wandered down some dark alleys in the shady part of town until someone tried to mug me. And I beat them near to death. And I took their stuff. Made some good money from it too. They saw me as an easy mark: fancy clothes, no weapons and no escort. It was easy. And word got around. Commoners started talking about me like I was some kind of hero.”

Eamch eased back in his chair. ”After a while, it became harder and harder to get mugged; the local hoodlums got the idea. So I took it on the road. I started to go from town to town, making money as I needed it. That’s how that whole pirate rumor started too. One ship I was on was overtaken and boarded. I wasn’t going to do anything. Really. But the pirate’s first mate took a fancy to my coat. I like this coat. So I dealt with them.” Eamch shrugged, like it wasn’t an effort to dispatch them.

Eamch leaned forward again. ”So, it’s been like this for a decade now. To the day; this is the ten year anniversary of when I followed that merchant into the alley. And, it’s got me thinking. How long can I keep this up? How long do I want to keep this up? Maybe I just need a big score, enough to retire on. So, I’m answering the call, if they’ll have me.”

He let out a long, slow sigh as he stood. ”Well, I should get going. I have a reputation to justify.” He stops and catches himself. ”Did I say justify? I mean keep up. A reputation to keep up.” He seems flustered by the mistake, then shrugs. ”Maybe I was right the first time.”

Suddenly his nose wrinkled up in disgust. ”Whew! Do you smell that? I swear it smells like, like… Wet Elk! Pardon me, I need to say something.” He starts to walk away, then turns back. His face brightened as he said ”Hey, this could be a good deed! Maybe I’m on the right path after all.”

Hey DM! would you mind making the mystic theurge prc require 1st level spells of each type instead of second, and maybe have it require 2ranks in the skills instead of 3?

It really sucks the normal way; you can make it work but it requires jumping through stupid rules-lawyering hoops.

@GM Aku - what is our sensitivity to min-max/optimization?

Is Monk (Hungry Ghost) 6/Fighter (Brawler) 3, egregious? I'm shooting for a front liner melee monk. Bad Azz, run the gauntlet, get the job done type.

Assist with Disarm and Trip (against spiders?!) and increased damage output. Allowing for the rest of party to be more skill/magic inclined.

With pre-requisites as that, you would be able to enter in the prestige class at level 3, isn't that a bit too much?

Hmm. I don't really think so. It won't have any of the scaling benefits of either class, and I'll be a spell-level behind a single-class full caster half the time.

If you do think it's too much, I could work with the skill ranks as is.

The time up untill level six would be quite painful to make work, but ehh. I suppose I could do it if I had to.

Wanted to ask if you are ok with the Aegis Before I do the crunch. Thanks.

Background now added to character...anything else needed Dm?

I do not own any of Dreamscarred Press books, and adding an entire new system to be used only in one class, since pathfinder does not really have any psionic stuff, is not appealing to me.

@Applications

I’ll start reviewing the crunchs tomorrow.
It has been a busy week, sorry for the lack of feedback.

No problem...just excited about playing is all..lol

Grand Lodge

Good luck to all

I've seem lots of goods applications, and I must thank you all for keeping the min-max to a minimum.
I’m reviewing some applications and I’ll send you a PM, with a feedback about yours.

There’s still time to work on your application, I’m not deciding yet the ones I’ll choose.
Recruitment will be open until November,29

Input on those allready submitted will be appreciated =^^=

DM Aku said he will send us a PM with feedback

Then sorry :P missed that part

I feel like a blow-hard... for all my talk, I think I should bow out. I have a feeling my discretionary time is going to become limited and have decided to focus on the games I'm currently in.

I do however feel the Hungry Ghost Monk is a great character (pure, no Fighter levels). He's essentially self sufficient with regard to health & healing. Replenishing Ki and HP at later levels.

Neutral is probably the way to go, as much would be "against Good"... But, Lawful (as is a Monk requirement) but, I mean "an enemy of Chaos".

With the Flurry of Blows, perhaps a +1 Temple Sword w/Keen & Bane (Outsiders - Chaotic) for just over 18,000gp - if allowed. Or 2 weapons, a + 1 Keen Temple Sword (helps Hungry Ghost powers). And +1 Bane Nunchuka or Sai.

Both flurry, one slash & trip the other bludgeon & disarm (Sai allow Sunder, if you're into that).

Anyways - Thank you, GM Aku for your patience and good gaming to ALL!

You know, you can do it at 4th level. You need a race with a 2nd level arcane spell like ability (so Tiefling, duergar, svirfneblin, several variant heritage Aasimar, etc.), then either take a level of Oracle with the wood mystery and get wood shape or warp wood as your revelation, or be a cleric with the trickery domain, which will give you Mirror Image. Last year Paizo ruled that spell like abilities count towards getting prestige classes, so the only other requirements is some skills, which you will have achieved after level 3.

I'm aware. I find that method distasteful, however. The character I had in mind is and either an elf, a human or a half-elf(not related to drow, so drow magic doesn't fit). Also a worshipper of Boccop, or a god that resembles him.

I suppose I could grab drow magic regardless, and just go Seperatist cleric for trickery domain. But then I wouldn't be creating the character to suit the fluff, but the fluff to suit the character.

I wish to stat out the character I have in mind without changing the fluff, but not wind up having just learned to cast 3rd level spells on a 9th level primary caster.

DM Aku wrote:

  • Races: No drows, any race other than the base ones, should have a well worked background that explains and gives reason why you have that race.
  • Hmmm. Well, I don't think I wanna join a relatively high start level Pathfinder adventure yet for lack of experience, but I do still find this recruitment somehow interesting. I hope you don't mind my interference.

The longest background I ever wrote was for 3.5 CG Aasimar Ranger/Silverstasr of Selûne. More than 10k words, unfortunately lost in digital Nirvana during moving from computer to computer over the years. I was completely surprised when someone actually read the story (I know I hardly ever bother with such a wall of text on a computer screen) and even posted positive comments, but I never got to play the character.

Back then Aasimar did not have a longer lifespan than normal humans, so he had a relatively normal childhood. I described his human parents, I got the story started and when he was asked from where his celestial trait came while he was subject to truth spell, I let him answer: "I don't know."

I kinda thought that deliberately leaving it open would make the character more interesting and mysterious and add some space for the GM to toy with. Of course I could have given an explanation as the narrator of that story without changing the fact that the character didn't know, but I found it more fun not to.

So... isn't: "I was born that way." an actually pretty valid explanation for "having" (i.e. being a member of) a race?

(Admittedly every other aasimar/tiefling/sylph I created had a background that explained where the outsider trait came from.)

I think I've finished sending a feedback to everyone with at least a partial submission.

If I missed you, please tell me.

    I haven't had one :(

    Applications are now over.

I'll give two more days for those that wish to review and complete their application before deciding the players.

    Thanks for your interest.

    background:

Born in the mountains, to a small village hidden away from the world, Darien Rhazael Vilander was born. He was the son of an angel, and a powerful sorcerer of the village. Darien’s lineage followed that of one of the last great gold Wyrms within the land. Ancient and powerful blood raged through his veins like wildfire. Leaving him golden, his hair, vibrant blonde, even his eyes were a brilliant gold, he even grew a set of golden wings, while not strong enough to grant him flight, they were able to be controlled slightly and gave him an aura of power. He was trained in controlling his powers by his mother, however there was a very aggressive nature to him. When he played, or learned he always had to be first. He had to be the best, not only because of his lineage but because he demanded it of himself. He wanted power, eventually the lessons did not come fast enough, his lust for strength driving him further on. In his brashness he left the mountain village, seeking ancient caverns surrounding it, and was set upon by a small group of orcs. Darien smiled, he raised his hands and let out a torrent of fire, felling several in an instant, however more came, and some were not deterred by the flames and soon were upon him. He was struck twice by poisoned blades. In pain, a rage came. A rage like nothing he had felt before, he grew claws of a dragon, his skin turned to scales and he was lost to a bloodlust. He shredded several more of the beasts, his physical fitness serving him well, but still more came and he fell deeper into the rage. Finally he was struck down and with blurry vision looked up to a greataxe ready to smash down on him when a golden wyrm lept from on high scattering the orcs. After the orcs fled the golden dragon returned to its normal form, it was his mother. She tended to him there for hours, too afraid to move him lest the poison spread faster. Eventually, the orcs returned with the full size of their war party and they were heading straight towards the village. His mother told him to wait where he lay as if I could move he thought in response. She turned and morphed into the golden dragon once again and flew off into the orc’s ranks. For hours shouting and roars were heard then silence. Darian laid there a day, falling asleep against his will that night, the next morn, his wounds were healed and the poison gone, his mother’s healing proving great. He made his way to the spot he had heard the battle coming from the night before, he looked around in awe as scores upon scores of dead and charred orcs lay where they were slain. It was then he heard a moan, and to his dismay, found his mother, laying beaten and bloody ontop of a pile of dead orcs. After he helped her off the pile and into a sitting position behind the rocks she told him of the battle, about how the orcs warband had been an extremely large one, about the great orc warboss that had lead them, how she fell, to volleys of arrows and the mighty sword stroke of the warboss. Darien laid there crying, blaming himself for roaming so far from the village in the mountains, knowing that orcs and other monsters called these mountains there home.
I swear to you this day mother, The orc shall pay for what they’ve done. I will garner the strength, and power to destroy them all. I swear to you… (sobs) They will all pay, and I will never let something like this happen again. I HATE THEM!
His mother, her glamour now fading due to her loss of strength placed a gentle hand on his face and said.
My son, bear no ill towards them, it is but the way of things… (deep breath) I have something I need to tell you, something I should have told you long before. She pauses a moment and gathers her strength.
know that no matter what, I will always love you, I was not sure if what I knew was true, I thought perhaps, your other great lineage’s would wash it away, and for a while, and at least physically, they have. But when I saw you fight yesterday, I saw not only the strength, a nobility of dragon, and angel, but pure ferociousness and the savagery of orcs. Your drive for power, your reckless ways and pride, Even the way you fight, stems from the blood of orcs. You see, you have orc blood coursing in your veins, it is weaker, and lesser than that of your dragon blood, but it will cause you to seek out power, it will tempt you to anger, and hate, to pride. While these are all emotions we use, it will attempt to force you into feeling only these. You must fight it, you have the strength to do so, you can master it, as I have. as her glamour falls away, her skin turns to a light green, tusks appear on her bottom lip, and her hair vanishes.
The orc leader is your half-brother, my son, the son of me and a human man. His lineage has almost overtaken him, physically, and emotionally. But I saw something in his eyes. A glimmer of hope, there I still, what was once my first baby boy in there somewhere and I could not strike him down. I am sure he hated me, for I am sure he feels I abandoned him… our village was attacked by orcs, burned to the ground, his father slain… I could not find him. I killed many of them that night, but I could not find him. So I left, I left that part of my life behind, leaving him for dead, until today, when I saw him. He recognized me to I am sure… Your half-brothers name is David, my son, forgive me. You must leave these mountains… there is nothing left for you here, find your way, My grandfather, an elf named Tariel, resides in Irrisen, so too, my father, an orc named Krumush, lives there. Seek them out, and remember always I love you.
Darien could only mutter a single world. No…. as he looked on in disbelief, not long after she spoke to him, his mother died. She had saved her last energy to live until she could speak with him, one last time. Darien sat in silent shock for over a day, before returning to the village carry his mother. When he got there the village was in ruins, the houses were burning, the livestock slaughtered. Bodies of the men in the militia of the small village lay about pillaged and brutalized. He buried his mother at the peak of the mountain. Casting a permanent light spell to forever illuminate the site, to this day he still cannot say how he accomplished the task, it just… happened. When he returned to the village he checked the small cave where the children and women would hide during other incidents, though of smaller caliber and found most of the children and a few mothers there alive, some, wrapped in cloth at the back, killed by blades or smoke. He told them they had to leave, the village they had called home for over 200 years was no longer safe for them. He guided them out of the mountains to the closest town nearby and said his farewells, even to his beloved Anna. He promised them he would be back after speaking with his grandfather, and after he gain greater strength. He told them he would come back one day and once again make the mountains theirs, that he would keep them safe. As he left the town, Darian knew what he had to do for now, to anyone looking it seemed he had everything under control, but inside his heart, emotions were swirling, he wasn’t sure of anything anymore. He had a brother, that brother had killed his mother, and his family, but his mother wanted him to save his half-brother from himself? How? Why shouldn’t he just kill him? Why couldn’t he hate that bastard? Why did he feel this pity, this… caring? He could only hope his grandfather Tariel could tell him. Hoped he would tell him what to do, that he should hate his half-brother, hate orcs and kill them all… but yet, somewhere in his heart, he hoped not.

That was many years ago, He never found his grandfather, after arriving at heldren he was told he had left, He has since wandered, looking for him. He has grown much over the years. Folks talk about how he, and a few others, slew a great red dragon, living in the mountains north of a large city that had terrorized them for quite a while. Tales tell of how he smote the rogue Devil attempting to summon up an army in the material land. He found a goodly dragon, that taught him more about his blood and magic than he could have ever known, allowing him to further manipulate his powerful Draconian heritage. Today he once again is reunited with friends for word of a great danger has come, and he once again answers the call, hoping beyond hope that it leads him to his grandfather or his half brother... both of which he wishes to see, though for very different reasons.

Hey Aku, I know you closed recruitment, but I'm a big fan of the War of the Spider Queen books and I love Faerun. I know players can sometimes drop out of contact after a few days on PbP, so if you find that you have an opening I would be very interested in creating a character. I have several concepts in mind.

Ok, thank you anyway, congrats to those who made it.
