Allarnon moves up and is temporarily blinded when Lief joins him. Lief moves up and dispels the darkness! Dimitiro positions himself and suffers through his blindness. Kaylayne also is blinded by the light. Ederin moves up and is temporarily blinded.

One of the drider dispels the Deeper Darkness, and Lief is suddenly blinded by the light (for his next round) while the rest of you are merely dazzled so long as your in or looking through the light. The drider do not seem to have this difficulty.

The driders eyes are stronger than I thought. So much for stealth. Ederin thinks as he feels the all too familiar feeling of lightning coursing through his body. He grtis his teeth through it, thankfully with his reflexes he'd been able to avoid most of the tendrils seeking to burn his flesh. Even the web failed to grip him as it formed around him.

Taking advantage of the cover provided by the web, Ederin casts a protective spell he berates himself for not casting after the last fight. He stays nested in the webs for now, hoping he can pull himself free easily enough when a better opening provides itself.

Allarnon is captured by the web, then breaks free, and shifts just outside the strands reach. Lief blindly shoots into the light, luckily connecting once for a little damage. Dimitiro moves up through the blinding light and into position. Kaylayne plows through the webbing and lights up a few of them with a nice friendly fireball. Ederin protects himself further from the drider lighting - just in time!

Allarnon absorbs the lightning blast as it strikes his skin. He thanks the elders for teaching him what little they could before he left as it has now saved his life multiple times.

Seeing a few of the driders finally within his type of range Allarnon swipes his massive paw at their exposed chest.

I should have mentioned this last round, and forgot. When you were in the tunnel, you were within range of the scry sensor AND the source. The purple drider was the castor of the scry sensor. He could not see through the darkness, and so was scrying the hallway beyond it to watch your movements.

Allarnon only manages to hit once, and minimally. Lief hits twice and poisons the drider, but it does not collapse. Dimitiro’s luck is against him, and he fails to make a connection, though he was very close. Must have been the dazzling light that swayed his hand. Kaylayne tries to slow and blind her foes, but luck again shines her face elsewhere and but one is captured - though luck favors even him and he escapes the worst. Ederin slides across to open ground and takes a shot at red - connecting for a few points of damage.

Alas the tentacles they are numerous - the only way to freedom is a CMB or Escape Artist check DC 23. Kaylayne sets purple aflame. Ederin slams three arrows on two hits into the poor drider. Lief tries to help Ederin with purple and connects once!

Purple throws up his arms as he tries to put himself out, ”OK, OK, we surrender. You cannot be beaten, and we clearly are. Take us back to the house. We will go meekly, my lady.” As a show of good faith, he dispels the Black Tentacles.

Allarnon removes his heavy paw from the downed drider. He grunts as he was hoping to possibly get an honest answer from the driders.

A soft glow fills the chamber as Allarnon's fur illuminates. The driders wounds stop bleeding.

Did he just heal that drider? That's going to get around the House.

Ederin scowls, thinking they would have been better off killing the driders, that's what had been expected of them, but he wasn't going to argue with Kaylane now that they had ears that could report back to others in the house.

Instead he says nothing, and leads the way back home, keeping an eye on their captives when he gets a chance.

Kaylayne will search them all for the spoils of war and magic, then will encourage them to carry their comrades that cannot yet walk on their own back to the house.

She speaks little, as if afraid that too much talk would give more opportunities to betray them.

You gather what loot you can find, which isn’t much. Mostly it’s drider gear, and what the drider could carry off from the house in their hasty departure. You do find a few odds and ends, and when you return the household goods, there is a kickback from Undamesta. Net gain, maybe 600gp worth.

You travel back the few hours it takes and the drider give you no trouble. Well not much anyway. They test the limits of their capture a bit, and one tries to run off at one point, but you’ll easily stop any shenanigans - possibly with the death of another of their number.

Eventually you reach the outer walls again, and the amulet Kaylayne carries gets you back into the city without incident and you make your way through to house Vonnarc easily enough - from the side, without straying into the city proper. Possibly a more advantageous way out when the time comes? Fewer guards to contend with that’s for sure, and just one gate, usually open.

Anyway, Undamesta is pleased with the outcome. You have returned with heads, and even a live drider or two - who’s screams you’ll hear in the morning and evening for a few days. You are congratulated and given the next day off as a reward for your skills.

I’m assuming you don’t journey back injured. Take ~20 charges off a wand to cover the myriad of injuries to Allarnon, Tarkir, Lief, Ederin and Dimitrio. Those black tentacles were particularly nasty. As it’s late, I suspect you turn in, but you rise early on Moonday, 2 Lamashan, 4709 - a day with nothing planned.


Dimitrtio files away the information about the gate and the guards and dreams of when they could make their escape back up the surface.

The sour taste in his mouth of having to return the driders to a life of suffering has not waned.

He wants to ask what he should next but remembers Lief's admonishment. So he sits and waits to be told what to do, a bored, sad look in his face.

Kaylayne takes Undamesta's pleased response with an uppity 'duh, what did you expect?' attitude. In other words, she accepts the acclaim like Lief accepts constructive criticism.

That night, she is anxious to sleep in her own room again, feeling more protected within the bounds of the home than without. She hates that she feels safer within the home, but the truth of the matter is that it seems safer within than without, amongst the rogue driders and ceiling-dropping blobs.

She ponders who to breech Drowderin and Lief's screw ups in the final encounter with the driders.

Allarnon sighs in relief as one of them wasn't berated or tortured for not following instructions down to the letter.

Cast speak with animals

He pats Tarkir on the side. "You did good today. That lightning was a bit much and I didn't have anything left to protect you. Get some rest. We are going to need it."

Rolling over he looks to Kaylayne. "What should we do on our day off Mistress?"

Ederin, provided he has House Vonnarcs permission, will go to the library and study any information the house has on local geography, hoping to find a viable means of escape, using the excuse that it's beneficial to know where the driders may have been headed, or to find where they may go if any more escape.

If Kaylayne gives the signal to speak freely at all:

When the group has a chance to be together, and alone, Ederin will discuss something he's considered while on the way back with the driders.

"We've been keeping quiet as much as possible. Because of these..." He points to his ring. "It makes sense, we don't want to give any drow anything they may use against us, standard procedure. But what if they aren't the only ones listening in?"

As he says this he pulls the House Azinrae ring they recovered from Nolveniss. He doesn't say anything else, choosing to be cautious even if Kaylayne thinks it's safe to speak.

"It's something we may need to consider. Especially given how long it's been since we recovered this on our last job."

Kaylayne, presumably, nods that it's okay to speak safely to Drowderin.

"Who else do you think might be listening in, Drowderin? They would have to be visible to our eyes and hear our words direct to hear us, if my magics hold true," Kaylayne replies. "I cannot guarantee it, but I think we are safe enough when my magics indicate so."

Kaylayne looks at the ring.

"My knowledge of all magics is very limited, but I think we are as safe as we can be as long as you heed my warning and mind your tongues when I am not around. What...what do you think might be listening?"

Ederin raises an eyebrow as Kaylayne misses his point.

"If House Vonnarc can keep track of us through their rings, could House Azinrae be watching us as well through theirs?" He hopes he wont regret saying it outloud, not knowing the nature of drow rivalries.

"If they can, if the are, then they may have been watching since before we arrived. That's a liability."

Kaylayne levels her gaze on DimiDrow.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Instructions? Do I need to tell you not to do anything stupid? Or did you want advice? How about 'don't do dumb things'? That's pretty good advice. Now, go out and learn things. Try not to get caught doing anything as you explore the 'side gate'," Kaylayne hisses in case others are listening.

Kaylayne looks at the ring that was given to them, intent on giving it more study as a way to calm both her and Ederin's worries.

"I will be studying this ring and trying to make sure that we are unscried upon," Kaylayne says, thinking more. "Then I shall go for a walk about the building to see what I can learn."
