Jim watches a fierce battle begin to unfold as he runs across the rooftops. The giant Krotus advances into the flying hellknight's magical bolts, Avaria's stream of enchanted arrows, and a flurry of oddly pugilistic claw swipes by an oddly armored and enormous feline, absorbing them all, and inflicting a grievous blow against the cat-thing with his greatsword. Fast approaching the street on which the massive combatants are exchanging window-rattling blows, Jim comes to a decision.

Looks like this is shapin' up to be a proper fight - no holdin' back!

As he covers the last two rooftops in three long strides, Jim draws upon his newfound inner strength, waking the serpent of cold, hard anger deep within him. Rearing its head and opening it jaws wide, it breathes power into Jim's very soul, and he begins a rousing chanty at the top of his lungs. Leaping from the last roof's edge to the far side of Krotus, opposite the feline, he holds up his buckler arm to aid against any opportunistic attacks from the giant whilst he's airborn.

"Yo! Ho! Blow the man down!
Cut off 'is legs and he'll hit the ground!"

Squarely planting his feet, Jim grabs Zenovia in both hands and lashes out at Krotus's legs, throwing all of his body and the icy snapping of his spirit into the blows.

Alright, ye big battle-cat; now's no time to be a cringer!

Continuing to sing, he pointedly directs his next lines of verse at the monstrous felid, fueling his words with the all the violence he wishes to inflict but cannot due to his mortal constraints, inspiring the creature to act.

"Yo! Ho! Blow the man down!
By tooth and by claw ye'll earn yer reknown!"

Behind the Scene:
Move: 60' to end adjacent to Krotus, flanking with Graverattler - note that Jim has AC 32 against any AoO provoked from this movement - if needed his jump check is: 1d20 + 5 + 30 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 30 + 12 = 56;
Free: Spending 1 mythic power to activate Lightning Performance and start a bardic performance of Inspire Courage, giving all allies in earshot a +3 competence bonus to hit and damage, and a +3 morale bonus to saves vs charm and fear effects.
Standard: Two handed power attack against Krotus with flank, using mythic surge if necessary. EDIT: I didn't realize that mythic surge would count as my swift action for this round if used; therefore, I will not use it this round even if I miss, preferring to use Decisive Strike per below. Sorry about that!
Zenovia to hit: 1d20 + 20 + 2 + 3 - 1 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 20 + 2 + 3 - 1 - 3 = 27
Mythic Surge: 1d6 ⇒ 3 if needed
Zenovia damage: 1d6 + 15 + 9 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 15 + 9 + 3 = 29
Swift: Spending 1 mythic power to activate Decisive Strike, which allows me to give one ally within 30 feet (Graverattler) the ability to immediately make a single melee or ranged attack on my turn. Add my tier as a bonus on the attack roll. The damage dealt by this attack bypasses all damage reduction. This attack doesn't count toward the ally's actions on its turn.
Immediate: None.

As Jim takes off from his final rooftop, he spots a lithe blonde human moving fast across the bridge. Bobbing and weaving, the human closes with Krotus...
acrobatics: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (20) + 19 = 39
... deftly avoiding leaving himself open for attack. He moves right to the spot where gravity is guiding Jim and for a second a crash seems unavoidable, but the blonde man slashes at the giant without hardly breaking stride...
attack: 1d20 + 18 + 6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 18 + 6 + 3 + 2 = 38, for: 1d6 + 6 + 6d6 + 11 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 6 + (4, 1, 5, 5, 2, 5) + 11 + 3 = 45
...drawing a deep wound across its inner thigh, before spinning around it's leg and darting past the warcat. When he stops on the other side, he places a hand on the creature's shank and Graverattler feels a warm and comforting presence move through her.
Lay on Hands: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 5, 1) = 13

Justinius, behind the scenes:
free: activate boots of speed (+30' move)
swift: spend 1 mythic point for fleet charge (move 90' and attack- sneak attack, plus slow reactions)
move: move 45' to other side of Graverattler
standard: Lay Hands on Graverattler

active effects: smite evil, divine bond

As Rimy Jim comes sailing in, Krotus' reactions seem somehow slowed by the flurry of activity that has just transpired. Jim lands safely, drags Zenovia hard across the giant's chainshirt without penetrating it, and then beckons Graverattler, rather convincingly, to press the attack.

Graverattler, you're actually at +6 on that attack because Jim is granting you a flank in addition to the other bonuses he mentioned. I'll wait for that attack before posting Krotus' action.

lol, wow... nice timing on that one...

Krotus glowers at the cat-beast as it strikes at him once more with a strangely balled-up paw. When Graverattler connects with devastating force to his neck he stumbles backward. "Ómögulegt!" he shouts angrily as he fixes his grip on his greatsword. A second later a barrage of magic missiles strike his head and he becomes visibly unsteady on his feat. In a rage he lifts his mighty sword and desperately swings it at Graverattler once more...
attack: 1d20 + 25 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 25 + 1 = 31

As his swing glances off the warcat's armored carpace and strikes the city street, the momentum of the heavy blade drags the giant to the ground with it. The exertion of his last attack proving to be too much, Krotus lays motionless before you.

Giantish:
Impossible!

In the distance you can hear that fights are still clanging on, but here at the end of Festival Street there is a moment's peace...

Victoria speeds forward, nodding in satisfaction as the giant comes crashing down. Maintain vantage point. She comes to a stop directly above the giant without descending toward the ground. "Ho, down there! Do any of you recognize these giants? Their appearance seemed to surprise the locals, and any intelligence on their nature or strength is invaluable."

giants are humanoids, so it's knowledge:local... there might be a little info from knowledge:geography too...

its up to you all how quickly you want to investigate/intervene in any of the other combats- you can rush right on, or you can take a round or two before I move things on; just let me know what you're doing.

know:local DC 15:
There are several tribes of hill or stone giants around here that are usually too busy fueding with each other to bother human settlements.

know:local DC 30:
The giant that was singing wears a symbol of the Irontooth tribe; odd, given what you know about Krotus.

know:geography DC 25:
To get to Sandpoint, any stone giant tribe would have to pass through hill giant territory (which is generally risky business).

Game left due to change in work situation

Ah yes, geography; possibly the only Knowledge skill I have no ranks in!

Avaria tilts her head upward to regard the Hellknight. Who'd have ever thought she'd be fighting side by side one of them? It'd certainly be a tale for back home! And that giant cat... dinosaur... thing. Not to mention a pirate thrown into a mix. It was like the start of a bad joke!

"Don't know! There's a few tribes of stone and hill giants in the area, but they don't usually bother human settlements much. Too busy fighting amongst themselves!"

The clash of battles still being waged through the town tugged at Avaria's ears. She glanced back the way she had come and wondered, albeit bitterly, if Ludo was okay. She hoped so if only so that she wring his neck herself. And the redhead. Both at the same time, preferably. The crack of god knows what breaking snapped her back to the current situation at hand and she refocused on her present company.

"Sounds like the work isn't finished yet. Will you all be rejoining the fray?"

Avaria is so ready to join more fray-ing. She loves the fray! INTO THE FRAY!

"...And a talking skin-cat. Okay." Avaria blinked away what little she had left in her surprise pool for the day. The earth could part and a second Worldwound open into the town and she'd just shrug it off at this point. I mean, she did ask for excitement but the gods were getting a little extreme with that request.

Running low on arrows, she moves to the pair of giant corpses to pick up her durable arrows. "And I forgot two of them back at that other giant... probably never get that pair back..." she grumbled to herself. "I'll catch up. Any of you know a good fletcher?"

No idea what kind of time or action we are looking at here, but she definitely needs to gather em up. Never played an archer type before; I had no idea how many arrows they used up x.x

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

any arrow that wasn't a natural 1 on the attack would have struck Krotus, so they'd all be in a pretty small area... For the sake of keeping things going let's assume you can gather them in the two rounds that Graverattler has used. Anyone else who wants to fight as a group can post up to two rounds worth of actions.

"Just a moment. I will find the closest target." Victoria rises into the air until she sees another giant.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Victoria:
'Closest' is hard to say... There is a haze in the air born of the dust of battle and smoke from smoldering tents and wagons and the field fans out from the bridge, so a lot of things are happening at similar distances...

Quickly surveying as much of the field as you can, you do note that in most places there are only one or two giants facing off against gangs of people but in one spot, 120' east of the bridge, there is a mixed group of seven hill and stone giants, gathered around 3 uniformed warriors (and a gaggle of matching corpses).

Victoria shoots her hand out toward the bridge. "There! 120 feet east of the bridge, there is a mixed group of... seven hill and stone giants. They are assaulting three uniformed warriors. Several casualties on the ground. I suggest we move with haste."

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

I don't want to stall us at all waiting for actions people may not want to take, so I'm going to move on... Jim, Victoria, and Justinius all have at least one unspent standard action so, if they want, they can use it in their next post as having happened before this...

The speaking cat-thing and the unidentified Hellknight provide some indication where the next real threat is and then the huge feline bounds to the bridge.

Graverattler:
The bridge is only 10' wide... you can cross it at half speed (it looks strong enough to hold you...) or you can leap the 40' river next turn... its 75' to get to the bridge.

Also, it is clear that, besides the one who calls himself 'Justinius', none of the helpful people who fought Krotus will be able to keep up with you... it's up to you if you want to charge off by yourself, slow down so they can keep up, or even bear some as riders...

Victoria:
It is obvious as soon as the cat moves that none but this Justinius will be able to keep up with it. It would not be without cost but you could surge a haste spell to speed your own approach, along with theirs...

Across the bridge a haze of dust and smoke hangs over the field. People are scattered about- some fleeing or hiding, some struggling to put out fires, and many fighting against the giants. Dozens of hill and stone giants dot the landscape. Most fight alone or in pairs, usually being opposed by gangs of people. In most cases it seems that the element of surprise has been overcome and the giants are on their heels. One obvious exception to this pattern lays straight ahead, as the Hellknight indicated, where a group of giants has disabled a number of men in matching red uniforms. Three more men in the same outfits fight on while a fourth man, dressed more for court than battle but wearing a cape of the same red, fires arrows from behind them.

the bridge is 40' long and the two closest giants are 120' from it. The giants are arranged in a crescent shape spreading east from there (with its middle bending south); they are mostly surrounding the three uniformed warriors. Graverattler is 160' from them at the head of the bridge. Avaria is 40' from the bridge where she has finished gathering arrows, 200' from the closest giants but without any line of sight due to the huge cat filling the city gate. Rimy Jim is still adjacent to where Krotus fell, 35' from the bridge and within arms reach of the archer. Victoria is 60' above Jim, 195' from the closest giants, with clear line of effect (though they currently have partial concealment from her due to the dust and smoke). Justinius had moved closer to everyone to introduce himself and is 60' from the bridge.

According to the GM's last post, you are 60ft from the bridge, the bridge itself is 40ft long, and the giants are an additional 120ft from that.

Avaria shakes her head. She was now being invited to mount the huge skin-cat. The huge, talking, SPELLCASTING skin-cat. "Well, you only live once," she murmured as she stuck the last of her reclaimed arrows into her quiver. Despite the unusual circumstances and any reservations she may have about trusting strangers and stranger things, she took the skin-cat up on it's offer, doing her best to scramble up its thick hide. She hoped it didn't mind the heels.

"Well, this is unusual. What exactly, uh, ARE you?" she asked as she settled herself on the back of the beast. "Oh, and while we are getting so cozy together, and before we potentially die to a giant raid, I'm Avaria. A pleasure."

I'm going to move Victoria to keep things rolling.

While Avaria and the half-orc climb onto Graverattler, Justinius quickly moves past them, across the bridge, and towards the band of giants. Overhead, the Hellknight flies at a reckless speed towards the fray. As soon as her riders are situated, Graverattler leaps in one mighty bound over the bridge and runs to nearly the same spot as Justinius. Meanwhile, another of the uniformed warriors drops to a brutal chop from one of the hill giant's great axe. Four of the giants look to be hill giants in hide armor, two wield great axes and the other two great clubs. The three stone giants all wear studded leather; two of them have greatswords while the third carries a longsword and a large shield. The two uniformed warriors on their feet are both humans wearing breastplates and fighting with glaives. The man behind them is a handsome human with fair skin and auburn hair and goatee, wielding a finely crafted composite longbow.

Avaria:
You believe you've meet him before at some society function or other, although without being able to see any heraldry right now you can't place him.

Justinius and Graverattler are both 40' from the skirmish, with open lanes to any of the three closest giants (2 hill and 1 stone). Rimy Jim and Avaria are about 45' away and still mounted. Victoria is 35' from closest giants, and 30' above the ground; she has a clear line to all of them.

how are you at +20 on the fourth 4 attack? I get normal+haste+divine bond on the first 3 but did you burn your other divine bond? otherwise attacks 4 and 6 should both be 3 points lower...

As Justinius closes the gap to the outermost hill giant he is momentarily distracted by its pungent aroma and fails to tumble through its defenses; the giant responds to the error by bringing around his great axe and attempting to introduce it to the young man...
greataxe: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22
However Justinius proves too agile and adroitly dodges the attack. Once he closes he stabs away in a lightning fast barrage of thrusts and, although they do not all connect, the giant is dead before it hits the ground.

The two closest giants, a hill giant with a club and a stone giant with a great sword advance on the new arrival and attempt to end his interference...
great club: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
greatsword: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
Both blows come unbelievably close and Justinius silently thanks the Inheritor for blessing him with such helpful boots both attacks only missed because of the dodge bonus from haste!

GM Dice:

At the opposite end of the crescent, one of the uniformed men gets swung at twice by a stone giant with a greatsword but manages to avoid both attacks. His celebration, however, is short lived as the other hill giant connects with a swing of his greataxe that knocks him off balance. The stone giant with the shield follows up with a thrust of his longsword that send that soldier falling backwards in the street. The last soldier adjust towards his fallen comrade and slashes the hill giant the nobleman just shot. His glaive finds it mark both times and the giant drops in his tracks.

The hill giant fighting Justinius is 30' from Graverattler, obsructing access to the stone giant 40' away (adjacent to the hill giant on the other side); the next closest after that is the stone giant with the shield who is about 55' feet away. Everyone else may post round 1 now; Justinius can post his round 2.

Not sure what size category Graverattler's skin-cat form is, thought I'd try the check just in case it was applicable to fast dismount. That said, it was a miserable failure so I suppose it doesn't matter!

Avaria dismounts the skin-cat, apparently a shaman named Graverattler (Avaria wasn't dead and she was somewhat rattled by the whole thing),and surveyed the battle as it played out before her. The remaining few uniformed soldiers and the nobleman were slowly losing and time was of the essence.

With a well trained grace that suggested she was born with a bow in her hand, she knocked an arrow and let it fly into the giant Justinius was engaging.

Graverattler continues her move, picking up momentum to charge the hill giant, ending with a pouncing series of batting, rather than clawed, attacks over the paladin's head.

Graverattler is 15' away from the Hill Giant at the end of her charge.

Victoria focuses her energy [AAM, swift action] and casts a spell in a grim and gravelly voice. "Gāodà rúshān, wǒ de gǔtou, wǒ de ròutǐ, gěi wǒ jùdà de lìliàng."

Her bones and sinews pop, her muscles expand, and she is suddenly 18 feet tall and covered in fur. [giant yeti form]

Draconic:
"Tall as the mountain, my bones and my flesh, give me the strength of a giant."

She retrieves a small baton from her hip. "Uroshnor." In the blink of an eye it glows and expands into an enormous fauchard. [command word]

She advances slowly, waiting for a chance to strike. [move to within 20 feet, that should place me outside of their melee range but I can still take AoOs with my reach weapon]

activating the shrinking enchant (or any other command word item) is a standard action... for some reason I can't get a more precise link but if you go to this page and scroll down to the "Using Items" section (maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of the way down) you can see the rules for it under "Command Word." So, you can move and get your weapon or move and cast, but you can't cast and get your weapon (unless you want to have a non-magical fauchard that was under shrink item, that I will allow you to dismiss as a free action because of the way the spell is worded).

@Avaria: the giant Justinius attacked is dead. there are two that attacked him- a hill giant with a club and a stone giant with a greatsword... which one are you shooting at?

Aha, I missed that. Well go for the second closest giant. Sorry about that.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

@Avaria: stone giant it is. he has cover from the hill giant but your feats let you ignore that.

@Victoria: regarding the options I listed for your last round- those will be the options generally, but since you had an unused standard action from before let's assume you biggified your fauchard while Graverattler was healing up- so you're huge, armed, and 20'up and 20' west of the hill giant that Graverattler pounded on (currently threatening him and the stone giant next to him, and Justinius if he does something you don't like, lol).

Jim lets out a loud guffaw as the giant cat leaps through the air with himself and Avaria clinging to it's back. He jumps off as best he can before they reach the cluster of giants, belting out another chanty as he lands perfectly on his feet in a surprising display of grace.

"Yo! Ho! Blow the man down!
They all look haggard, we're in our prime!
"Yo! Ho! Blow the man down!

As the giants and soldiers exchange attacks, Avaria deftly slides down Graverattler's right rear leg and fires a single well placed arrow into the stone giant attacking Justinius. It grunts as the arrow sinks in but keeps its focus squarely on his chosen target.

Overhead, the Hellknight releases one hand from her polearm in order to invoke a transmutation. Instantly her arms and legs sprout out and she grows to nearly the size of Krotus; strange white fur can be seen spilling out of the seems in her armor. Carefully regripping her weapon she flies down to where the giants are well within its long reach.

The viridescent pirate, meanwhile, bounds off Graverattler almost into Avaria's line of fire and begins singing as he advances to flank the hill giant with Justinius.

Free of her passengers, Graverattler pounces on the nearby hill giant. Her first attack is comically bad as the cat swats at the air. Her second swing, however, connects with tremendous force. Spurred on by an uplifting chanty, her third attack just barely connects sending a steady trickle of blood running out of the giants ear. Her fourth attack once again misses, but the fifth finds its mark and sends the hill giant tumbling to the dirt.

Justinius is left to start round 2, then the NPCs and giants will go. Justinius- you're 10' from the stone giant (a 5' step from attacking him, and already within his reach), he is currently not flanked. (you do flank the hill giant but he's dead now)

"I say, When this rabble is dealt with, I would love to share a drink with all of you! I know the nicest little spot just east of the Temple."
normally I would offer to break bread with new friends, but a flying giantess, a huge armored cat and a half orc sound like a crew that can do some damage to a temple servants meal allotment. (then again, when has a half orc ever had one drink?) Surly, this is the most fun I have ever had at a 'ceremony'. (My appologies to the victims for that last thought)

"If I'm alive to join you all," the well dressed man in the scarlet cape calls out, "I'd be glad to pay for those drinks!" As he speaks he takes a step west, so that Justinius is more of an obstacle for any giants trying to reach him. He then turns his attention towards the last hill giant, unleashing several more arrows in its direction...

Three arrows sink into the hill giant's already bloodied flesh.

GM dice:

The stone giant facing off with Justinius connects on his first attack, opening a long wound down the man's left side Justinius takes 31 damage. The giants all grin at the strike and for a moment it seems that they may regain some momentum. Then as they try to press their advantage a thick plume of smoke blows momentarily through the melee... the stone giant swings again at Justinius but misses, the one fighting the uniformed warrior starts coughing and both swings of his greatsword are wild, the one with the shield swings three times at the warrior but can't stop blinking and misses all three times. The remaining hill giant shifts farther north apparently preparing to charge the nobleman as soon as the pikeman is dispatched, and then brings down his heavy axe twice- also missing both times. Amazed by his own good fortune, and spurred on by Jim's tune, the last remaining soldier raises his glaive and buries its blade in the hill giant's shoulder; with a gurgling cough it collapses.

Everyone can act now. The stone giant fighting Justinius (which he and Avaria have both wounded) is adjacent to him, to his south and west. Rimy Jim is 5' away from that giant (5' step due east to get into flanking) and 20' from the giant with the shield (who is southeast of him). Moving 10' straightforward will engage Graverattler with the closest stone giant, moving 15' south and 20' east would allow her to engage either of the other two (there are no hill giants left alive) and could be done in one move without provoking, no open charge lane though. Avaria has a clear shot at everyone except Justinius and the stone giant fighting him (who are obscured by Graverattler, though that wouldn't actually affect your rolls at all); they are all within your first range increment but none are within point blank shot range (nor could be with a 5' move). Victoria is directly above Graverattler (and actually there's only a 5' gap between you), you can use the same distances but you'll still be 20' above them; you do have clear charging lanes to anyone.

Round 2 Init 5

Graverattler sees the closest giant well in-hand between the paladin and the pirate (there's a joke there somewhere I'm sure) and so she moves to handle the other giants and rescue the scarlet capes. "I'll be sure to return to human form first, so your bill will be greatly lessened." she jokes with their leader as she issues a vicious kick at whichever giant near them looks most wounded.

Vital Strike 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31 for 12d8 + 9 ⇒ (8, 5, 1, 3, 7, 3, 6, 3, 7, 4, 8, 4) + 9 = 68

Well, after my post got ate 7 times due to the site going down...

Is there anyway in this configuration that Avaria can land a fireball without hurting an ally? Looking to target the furthest giant out and hopefully catch a second in the spread.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

That's the worst. I've started always copying my posts before I hit send so if something goes wrong I can just paste it and try again. Fireball is totally doable- you can't get all 3 giants, but you can get the 2 that are fighting the soldier... If you center it high you could even do it without hitting any tents or anything. Try to remember to post DCs with your spells when applicable.

Jim sidesteps to flank the giant facing the young dual-wielder, continuing his chanty amidst the banter about post-battle drinking.

”Yo! Ho! Blow the man down!
Put a sword to 'is gut and a boot to 'is crown!
Yo! Ho! Blow the man down!

With Zenovia in his right hand, he makes a series of preternaturally quick slashes at the stone giant before him.
