Torrag Grimm |
Right before we head down the unexplored staircase, Torrag will cast Mage Armor.
Chaul Drammarson |
Chaul calls down a blessing on the expedition.
"A pity our soulful paladin could not continue the journey. I fear her travels will be lonely."
Revvy Bitterleaf |
I'll leave it up to you to introduce yourselves to each other and get to know each other and decide on the new marching order. we can assume you did that before you entered the dungeon as a group
Broad stone stairs open into a small, irregularly shaped chamber lit by oil lamps. To the east, a short flight of steps leads up to a sturdy door set in the middle of a wall and flanked by arrow slits. To the north, a wide gate of iron bars blocks an archway leading to a larger chamber filled with the eerie green glow of the Emerald Spire.
(Everything here is dim light - unless you bring a better light source with you, or have darkvision)
As Eladrian takes a look around he quickly notices a secret door (to your east, next to Gunnar)
Eladrian |
Retcon As the adventures gather outside of the next level of the spire, they find a lone half-elf waiting. Carrying a mix of new and battle scarred and well used weapons and armor, he lounges outside of the stairway down. "Hello. Good to see some of you returning to join me! For the others, well met. I see everyone has been shopping lately!"
Current
As the group rucks up for the next adventure, Eladrian draws his bow and hangs a few people back from the lead. "Theres a door here." he says as they pass the secret door. "Do we want to try it or move farther down the stairs first?"
Ss'alat |
"Greetings. I am Ss'alat, a sorcerer. I have made good use of my magics, but I have learnt to be better prepared for combat. He indicates a well-made crossbow and scroll case his side.
"And by the good graces of Nalinivati, I now have a magical companion named Aashsaa…" with that, a tiny tame viper casually slithers out of a specially made pocket in the front of his shirt. Aashsaa is light green in colour, with ruby red eyes with far more intelligence behind them than normal for a snake. After nodding her head politely at all around, Aashsaa then casually slithers back into her pocket-nest in the shirt of Ss'alat.
"Aashsaa is less of a conversationalist than the paladin Chaul speaks of. But she is well behaved, intelligent, and able to go into small places we cannot."
"We are ready to proceed if everyone else is."
Torrag Grimm |
You see a bald, white bearded dwarf with no armor. A battleaxe on one hip, a shiny new war-hammer on the other. You see him cast a spell on himself as the group gets closer to unexplored territory.
He grunts a greeting to the group, "Hello again Eladrian. . . Hello, others I haven't met yet."
"I vote secret door. Is it trapped?"
Chaul Drammarson |
Chaul nods is agreement and also inspects the door.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
"All these rooms feel quite different to the spire itself. I wonder if they were built by people to study it?
Eladrian |
Eladrian steps back from the door, and motions for one of the fighters to open it and stand back while he faces it with an arrow nocked.
Readied action to shoot anything that moves
Revvy Bitterleaf |
The secret door isn't trapped
As (Novid?) opens it you see what's behind it;
Weapon racks and wooden wardrobes line the walls of this room. The dummies in the center of the room wear suits of armor. Masks hang on the wall near the door; each consists of a brass nosepiece with cheek guards, from which a veil of red silk hangs.
The racks and arming dummies contain 10 short swords, 12 daggers, four light crossbows, three composite short bows (+2 Str), two suits of leather armor, and three suits of padded armor. The wardrobes contain 15 blood-red ceremonial robes. There are 12 masks.
There's a door on the other side of the room.
Chaul Drammarson |
"An armoury? But why?"
muses Chaul. He quickly checks for any sign of magic, and then confirms they are actually human sized, not goblin.
Ss'alat |
"These robes and masks might be useful to fool someone or something in this place. Since Chaul found no magic, they should be safe." Says Ss'alat. He tries on one ceremonial robe and mask.
He'll inspect the robe and mask he's grabbed (at random) to see if there are any special features like hidden pockets or anything else about them that aren't obvious.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Oh look! They're red! So much for that perception roll!
Eladrian |
he's got a point... Eladrian thinks to himself as he walks over to inspect one himeself.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
wow... the dice roller sucks in this game! NEW DICE OVER HERE PLEASE!

Torrag Grimm |
Torrag casts Detect Magic confirming there's no magical auras in this room.
I think us dwarves might look a little funny in these robes.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Is there a knowledge check I can make to know more about the origin of these robes?
Torrag Grimm |
Actually, I rolled a 10. It only looks like I rolled a 1 due to my awesome skill of not noticing anything.
Chaul Drammarson |
Chaul advances to the robes and inspects them, seeing if he can work out how would use them normally.

Arcana, Dungeoneering, Religion, Planes, History, or Local.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Even as Ss'alat and Eladrian get distracted by the nice red outfits.
Torrag notices there is some sort of sticky liquid dripping from somewhere inside a reservoir in the mask slowly drenching the cloth with it.
Chaul knows that people sometimes wear robes over the rest of their clothes and then put on a mask to hide their face.
Torrag remembers something about these combination of colors being used by follower of the god Norgorber in his aspect as the Gray Master.
Chaul Drammarson |
Chaul looks with distain at the robes.
"My heart and soul are for Saerane. I'll not don the robes of another."
Torrag Grimm |
Torrag points out the dripping ooze from the mask. "I wouldn't put that on if I were you."
Ss'alat |
Ss'alat will remove the mas he has and have a closer look at the mask to see if he can make any sense of the red fluid he hadn't noticed before Torrag said anything:
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Craft Alchemy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 (untrained, of course)
Those make up for the three ones in a row we had recently!
"This mask doesn't seem unusual at first glance. The sticky liquid inside might be an antidote for something. Whatever that something might be. Still, a mask and robes could be useful. They haven't dissolved with age, so their original owners might still be expected down here."
Eladrian |
"Antidote, huh?" Eladrian asks, picking one up and looking at it. "Could come in handy later.." Eladrian shoves one into his pack.
Chaul Drammarson |
Chaul nods to Gunnar.
"While the church of Saernrae might sometimes go undercover, I as a called and ordained servant to the redeemer will not put on the gown of the priest of another god."
He looks at the ceremonial masks.
"My teachings do allow me to turn the weapons of my enemies against them. If the mask provides some form of protection from something, that may be permitted. I shall take one and consult my conscience should the need for it arise."
Torrag Grimm |
Torrag shrugs and grabs a mask for himself stashing it in his bag.
Chaul Drammarson |
Chaul advances on one of the arrow slits to the east and, after checking it doesn't seem to have anyone immediately behind it, peers in with his darkvision.
Chaul Drammarson |
oopse, I missed that.
Chaul checks out the door in the secret room, rather than return to the first room and look at the arrow slit.
Chaul Drammarson |
Once again, Chaul checks the statue for residual magic.
"I wonder who she is? Anyone recognise her?"
Eladrian |
Eladrian steps up behind Gunnar, looking over the top of his shoulder at the hallway
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Ss'alat |
"I don't know who the statue represents, but we might as well examine it."
Ss'alat moves up to the statue and has a close look at it.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
He also gets his familiar, Aashsa, to carefully circle around the statue between it and the walls, to indicate to Ss'alat if there is anything interesting there either.
Aashsaa Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
I hope there's something worth looking at there, with rolls like those!
Torrag Grimm |
Torrag will also Detect Magic in the room. He'll keep an eye out from just inside the door.
