Sorry guys, between rushing my last few finals and preparing for a leadership conference competition (which I'm currently at) I've neglected to keep you in the loop and somewhat ghosted you.

Also, while this adventure might be good for introducing the material, the fact that the players must rely on time passing hampers progress imo.

A proposition.

Why don't we just wing it with new characters and a new game in this thread (or a new one). Something more player driven should give us the momentum we need.

I also understand if you don't wish to continue as I pretty much ghosted you till now.

I'd be willing to give it a go. My suggestion would be to pick maybe a group theme- a team of researchers, Firewall sentinels, Gatecrashers, criminals, etc. and a location to start in just to have s good early focus while we figure out our characters and the plot.

Most likely, you guys would be allowed to create your own characters after the group decides on a theme. Since you've stuck around this long I expect you're willing to wade through the diluge of rules.

To help:
1. Easily understandable Step by Step instructions on how to create a character.
Another Step by Step guide from the Ecplise Phase Wiki. Less explanation, but useful links with info.
2. Use this handy Eclipse Phase Character Creator to start building. or find a form online if you don't like online creators.

Though the question remains, what kind of game do you want to run? Personally, I favor a firewall agent theme as that has active components and firewall agents can be anyone doing anything with any specialization.

Whenever I play in sci fi settings I very commonly choose a knowledgeable hacker. With y'alls go ahead I'll start making one. If someone else wanted that my second choice is a sniper agenty character. I can be happy with any of the above.

I'm totally fine with you taking the hacker role, Aleksander.

For the setting and such, I've read on the Eclipse Phase boards that Mars or Venus are good starting choices for a first campaign and I would like doing a Martian game, moving between Hypercorp controlled cities, the outback and the Quarantine Zone.

A Martian ranger or transporter type character would be interesting to me- someone well-rounded but focused on infiltration and movement skills maybe.

I think the transhumance character package should be alright. Just keep in mind that I want to approach this game from a character and world focused angle. If you're going for mechanical gains and victories, you might be bored a lot.

No problem with that- from what I've read, the character package system tends to make more well-rounded characters and is a little more streamlined. I'll give it a shot and you can take a look, but I am definitely on board with a non min/maxed character.

So I'm actively reading up and following Eclipse Phase and let me tell you this would be a lot easier over discord chat or something.

Nevertheless, I found some great resources you guys can use.

Link 1. An "in-the-works" game mechanics and character creation guide for the Second edition of Eclipse Phase. (note the second edition does not mean new game rules, it's the company's way of saying the second try of trying to explain things better.)

Link 2. This is essentially a massive infodump of Mars in the Eclipse Phase Universe. You don't have to come from Mars, and we're not restricting ourselves to it, but if you wanna immerse yourself, get to reading. It is fascinating, I promise yo.

Btw, everyone still here and interested? Please post your current progress in character creation if so, and if you need some help, I'd be willing to skype or something to help you through it.

So, since you mentioned the Second Edition, it means we're going to use it? A quick look at some new mechanics, and I already like the idea of different "luck" pools - insight, moxie, vigor and flex. Looks cool.

Here's a first pass from the character creator for Jin Woo Lee, my Martian Ranger Sentinel. Considering moving a few things around here and there- he should probably have Interest: Tharsis League or something similar. Mostly built for exploration and combat, but he's got several social skills as well. He's sleeved in a Ruster morph with a bunch of aftermarket implants to make him a better lawman. (I wish I could get Neurachem, but the CP are better spent on getting more stuff for my ego I think. Could probably use a buggy too.) And I should think up his codename on the team.

Jin grew up on Mars, the son of mid-level TTO employees in what is now the TQZ. He was in basic training in Olympus when the Titans wiped his hometown off the map, so he never found out just what happened to his parents and younger sister. Since then and after the Fall he became something of a workaholic, putting most of his time into patrolling the spaces between the dome cities and the quarantine zone. He's friendly to the Movement and gives folks a break when he can, but he's still a Tharsis man even if he's entirely aware of their shortcomings. With his induction into Firewall, his loyalties are divided even further and he's not sure exactly where they'll land when push comes to shove.

Looks great Keegan, though if you messed anything up I probably wouldn't be able to tell. I'm halfway through reading the over 100 pages of Eclipse phase history and culture. I gotta say, for a terrifying look of the horror of transhumanity, kinda wish I could live in this universe for a while.


Playing with a few ideas.

I have a few question - is Titan Quarantine Zone guarded? How hard's a life of a scavenger? Is there anything useful or just troubles?

I have Discord, if we decide to create a channel/server or however it's called.

December 26th Update

The TQZ is much too large to have a standard guard (to my understanding) and is more of a perimeter patrolled circumstance. Now they patrol it quite well, but both criminals, scavengers, and other people have been known to enter with the right connections or tech.

Scavenging life is....bleak for most. Most of your money goes to pay for genetic treatments so your ruster morph doesn't break down on you, at least for locals. The Planetary Consortium ( a government put together by a bunch of hyper-corporations) just declared the area quarantined trapping a bunch of folks and not really giving any time for taking things out. So yeah, decent chance of salvage if you don't die to exsurgents, war machines, or whatever else is crazy enough to survive there.

The discord idea was mainly to help build characters if people were having difficulty understanding and google wasn't helping. I think I'd like to keep the game itself on play by post, even if just to see if it'll work.

Honestly, as far as character concepts go just do what you'd like. Preferably a specialty that isn't being covered, but yeah a team of firewall agents put together would be bst if the individual party members were somewhat diverse in what they can do.

I don't know how much the rest of your guys are into podcasts, much less podcasts of other people playing tabletop games, but Role Playing Public Radio did two whole campaigns of Eclipse Phase and a bunch of one-shots. The best campaign they've done, in my opinion is Know Evil and listening to that really opened up the setting for me and helped me get a better idea of the possibilities. It's also a bit of a time commitment to listen to them, but I found it helpful.

working on making a character since my IRL pathfinder game is off this week.

i see we have a hacker, an infiltrator, and a combat/explorer, so i figure i will see what i can do about another combat/explorer. we probably need a face, but i haven't read up enough on the setting to play it well and also i want to play something weird that probably wouldn't be good for a face. either combat/explorer for me or focus more on explorer, like a demolitionist/engineer to get us into different places. i'll probably end up a touch closer to that than combat.

I'll do my best to immerse you while slowly introducing interesting Eclipse Phase concepts. For Martian society, you could always be a city dweller as well, not everyone is a "redneck" as they like to say there.

Trying to decide if i should go with octo-uplift or corvid-uplift. Then I'd take a suitable synth like a takko or opteryx. Which would be better in a role of someone who gets in places, sometimes by demolition or high power cutting lasers?

Or maybe i would be better suited with something else?

I'm not an expert by any means, but the standard octomorph is great at getting into tight spaces given that it doesn't have bones. But a small flying morph like a neo-corvid or dragonfly is bound to be really good for reaching inaccessible places as well- honestly it seems like you could go whichever way you like.

Yeah, but they aren't too expensive and it can double as armor. Or you can get an enhanced respiration implant to be able to breathe outside of the domes.

just different skills and gear and stuff. i'm not 100% about what i am doing, but i know more now afterhaving done several hours of reading.


The idea was to make him really good at getting around in unfamiliar places. mapping software, positioning systems, etc. He also has pretty much the full suite of visions, plus magnification, plus some extra hearing.

I just hope I put enough into combat stuff.

for some reason my grenades aren't showing, i bought 10 of the frags and 10 plasmas. but now, i try to upload my txt save back into the creator and it says it is too old. so now ill have to re-input the character into the creator :(((((((((

Haven't forgotten about you guys. Been playing with Character Packages. As we seem to have a scout and a scavenger, both with a bit of combat, I'm thinking either a combat specialist with a bit of something else, or combat medic.

Will have a character in a day or two hopefully, what with exams and coursework slowly creeping up and quite a few academic debts piling up - I admit, I've been somewhat lazy for the last couple of months of studying.

I'm ready to go, though I can tinker with my character a little if there's a specialty lacking in the final group. Still trying to think up a good Transhuman conspiracy code name. In the meantime, I'll review the rules some more.

So, the crunchy part is done. It's inside this alias - I'll re-use it.

The short fluff draft:
Catarina studied at military academy back on Earth, before the Fall. She successfully finished it with a degree in engineering and served for five years when the Fall happened. She was in the front-lines, fighting the TITANs and making quick weapon and vehicle repairs.
Catarina died during the raid on one of the TITAN facility. She was re-instantiated shortly after the Fall - as were many other military personnel.
She now uses her set of skills working as a bodyguard for public persons.

I just have to add the Firewall connection, maybe polish it a bit, and I'm ready.

Since there may be time, I'll tinker with Jin a little bit since I think he and Cat have a bit of overlap in terms of specialties- less focus on vehicle stuff, more on investigation and covert ops. Maybe he became an ego hunter and has an enemy that forced him out of the Martian Rangers.
