Here I am! :)

So, my Oracle has proficiency with medium armor and took a revelation that gives him heavy armor proficiency as well. Would it be possible to trade those feats for Canny Defense?

BTW, what classes do we have in the party? I'd like to focus most of my spells on support, but depending on party composition, a Cleric might be a better fit, as having a greater variety of spell might help more than having a couple extra spells per day.

Hey everyone. Glad to be here and looking forward to the game. I will post crunch in my profile soon. Then we can go over everything with a fine-toothed comb.

This is going to be so much fun!

I have the crunch posted. I still may make some tweaks to the gear, but everything else should be in order.

Hey, sorry, somehow didn't see new posts in the recruitment thread till just now.

Just need to make a few final changes to Nul, nothing serious though.

Quick question: I'm thinking of taking the Venom subdomain

Is this ok? I can't seem to find a really good poison or decay one. The normal Decay subdomain grants Wooden Fist, which is stupid and also does not fit the character concept at all.

Male Minotaur Ranger(Beastmaster) 1

Hey, everybody.

HP: 12/12; Kai: 0/3; Status: normal

So we have:

Zakmakiv - poison dusk lizardfolk - assassin (rogue)
Tarragon - warforged - spell-less ranger (fighter)
Glaive - warforged - dreadnaught (fighter)
Tomp - warforged - brawler (fighter)
Codrus - minotaur - beastmaster ranger (arcana)
Nulmanen - human - inquisitor (divine)
Alastor - human - oracle of battle (divine)
Kaern - human - dragonmarked (?) no profile page yet

Glaive is a Dreadnaught essentially an infantry commander type. He has the Cavalier's Tactician ability, and the Precise Strike teamwork feat.

If people are packing shields, or even bucklers, I could change Precise Strike to Shield Wall...

You can replace both of those feats for Canny Defense.

Male Human Ranger 3(Skirmisher, Hooded Champion)

Are we missing a true arcane caster?

Warforged HP: 10/10 || AC-21 T-11 FF-20 || Fort +4, Ref +1, Will +1 || Init +1, Perception +1

yup, no arcane, unless Kaern is one.

Male Human Oracle of Battle 1 - HP 11/11 AC 22 (tch 17, ff 18) CMD 21 Fort +4, Ref +3, Will +4, Perception +6, Sense Motive +6; Initiative +5

Hmm... I suppose I could adapt Alastor to become a Magus without changing much of his backstory, but that doesn't completely fill the arcane role and we have no full divine caster other than him.

Then again, we have 8 characters in the party, so we can probably do well without a devoted arcane caster.

Nightflier has ruled that the minimum armor (plating) we can have is a breastplate whcih we also need to pay for, so you may have to readjust your purchases. Not sure how that interacts with Spell-less Ranger.

HP: 12/12; Kai: 0/3; Status: normal

I think nightflier meant, that the armour must come in plates, not chain, and the like, nor full (welded) plate armour, and of course light armours. Think warforged comes with existing armoured skin, which plates can be attached to. Plates and armour skin could be wood, or metals or even plastics (kevlar) if available depending on setting. It is just that warforged have very limited armour types that can be added to their bodies.

Concerning warforged armor:

For my homebrew race, Servitors, I used armor plating slots. A servitor can change his armor by going to artificer to be grafted with additional armor.

I'm gonna do something like that here: Warforged can not wear regular armor, but there are possibilities of grafting them with additional plating that provides armor bonuses. This can be done only with special equipment and by specialized and trained artificers.

Ok, how will this work for me? I took Craft: Blacksmith so as to be able to repair us. Is there another skill I can replace Blacksmith with to make this work? If not, I will readjust my skills and background to reflect this.

I'm not making much sense of that Zakmakiv. :)

Here is nightflier's ruling:

nightflier wrote:
You can start the game with armor plating of your choosing. Armor Plating has same AC as appropriate type of armor and costs the same. But the armor in question must consist of plates. That essentially means that the lightest type of armor plating you can take is equal to breastplate armor, which would give you AC +6. Remember that you still have your racial AC bonus. This limits your options to more expensive armor, I'm afraid, but it compensates for your racial AC bonus.

So.

Warforged have +2 natural AC bonus.

Plus war forged can buy armor as plating, but the minimum they can use is breastplate.

@nightflier, I planning to buy some Eberron (3.x) books. Where is the adventure going to head off to? Last time it was supposed to be Xen'drik continent.

Dark Archive

Hi, guys. I'm back.

To address some or your questions:

Warforged armor must come in plates - but those plates may be of any material that can be attached to appropriate "sockets" in the WF body. The armor plates can be of steel, of course, but also adamantium, stone or wood. Mithril or glass or whatever. Various materials have various weights and properties. So, let's look at breastplate as an example.

Standard breastplate is made of steel and it's medium armor.

If the same breastplate would be made of mithril it would become light armor and if made of adamantium it would become a heavy armor.

There are armors made of laminated wood that would be appropriate for integrating into WF body, but I don't have my "oriental" books right now. So, if you can find any type of "wooden" armor that is appropriate for your character and you can pay for it - go right ahead.

Craft: Blacksmith is very appropriate for WF characters, since in time you will probably gain access to lighter types of steel or other metals.

Zak, the game will start in Sharn, but after that it goes to Droaam - that is, of course, if the players do not decide otherwise. My games are always sandboxy enough for you to decide to go wherever and I'll adjust.

The Game Thread will be open tonight.

I'd be interested in Scalemail if scales could be socketed to my WF body...

Posting this in a few adventure discussion threads that I taking part in.

I been pondering HeroLabs for 2 years already, the high cost has been keeping me away from purchasing, considering PFRPG has a number of add-ons, and the Authoring Kit to create custom game systems for custom games is separate add-on feature at heavy 20 USD.

I been using PC Gen, when I can, yet last few adventures I taken part in all have modified system with plenty house rules that affect character creation and progress, I have been forced to use spreadsheets to manage the characters, as PCGen currently not flexible enough to handle the house rules (though adding items, abilities has been no hassle). Therefore the Authoring Kit probably be needed.

I would like to hear from others in these adventures, if you using HeroLab for these adventures, and how HeroLabs handles the custom house rules.

As for Hero Lab, I have used it in a variety of situations that the data packages don't cover. Namely, house rules. Many GMs use the extra feat for their games and I can make an adjustment to account for this. If I need to add skill points, change uses per day for class abilities, add ability adjustments, skill bonuses, I can do so. I like the program and will use it for years to come.

@Tarragon, did you buy all the PFRPG core and bestiary books? Or what add-on did you take for HL as a whole?

Do you have to modify data files to make these house rules modifications, or simple thing to do in the GUI itself. I particular trying to find something to handle nightflier's custom setting that has altered races and altered classes, along with altered abilities and feats.

Also can it handle gesalted characters, see long ago HL could not handle them, have no idea these days?

HP: 12/12; Kai: 0/3; Status: normal

Looking at first post, seems in this adventure we not using the previous idea of a military squad system. The various characters would somehow end up at tavern. I going to need to alter the background from the travelling caravan (including the first few paragraphs).

Hero Lab has the ability to make adjustments to any character without having to modify the data files. You cannot alter the class directly, you would need to add an adjustment to account for it. Hero Lab does not have the ability to gestalt at this time. However, the community has made unofficial addons (for free) that enables this. There are lots of fan-made goodies!

As for the books, you have to buy them as separate packages for Hero Lab, altough some come in packs. These packs are bundled together at a discount to entice buying them as a whole unit.

I have been buying addons off and on for a while now, and have the following books for Hero Lab:

  • Core book
  • Advanced Players Guide
  • Ultimate Combat
  • Ultimate Campaign
  • Paths of Prestige
  • Ultimate Equipment
  • Advanced Race Guide
  • Ultimate Magic
  • All the race companions

I have these and more. I still plan on getting additional addons as they are released and I have interest in them.

Yes. You get a main license when you purchase a game and 1 secondary for free. You may purchase additional secondary licenses for $10 to use on additional computers as well, though I think that number is limited to 3 or so. I am using Hero Lab from this laptop currently. I do not have access to my desktop right now so it makes it easier for me.

Fantastic to hear. I been giving this plenty of thought. Only need now to get the demo version to work on my Linux machines, then I be able to make decision to purchase. Luckily it seem in 2012 Linux users managed to get HL to work using PlayOnLinux application.

Well I did my first post in game thread. Lets see how the party forms together. I will update background when I have some time in near future.

Well got the HL demo to be installed, but there is a weird security error, which came in the latest release though the HL devs seem to know about.

Hey, nightflier, is there anyway for people wielding reach weapons to threaten adjacent squares? I don't mind paying a feat for it, if you think ti's necessary.

Like I said, Alastor is more about support and martial crowd control than damage output. I'm looking for ways to make it really difficult for enemies to get through him.

(I suppose killing them would do it, but where is the fun in that?)

Apart from the enormous brouhaha thread about whacking foes with the middle of your longspear, and just what exactly constitutes an improvised weapon or an object, I'm pretty sure there is an option, I just can't remember what it is. I know Polearm Fighters need to wait until x level to get it, and I think they still get a ridiculous penalty.
