Eberron: In Deepest Shadow (Khyber Group)

Game Master Lordjimbo

Description to be added soon.

You find yourself in a dank ten by ten room that smells like it was, until recently, inhabited by livestock. "The Hell?" You ask. "Why don't we get a Magnificent Mansion like the other group?"

Well unfortunately your DM only has limited spells per day and a few old moldy magic items and the other group asked for an OOC thread first. If you brought some magic of your own go ahead and spruce it up if you like.

This is the OOC thread for your out of game commentary. You don't have to just talk shop though, feel free to chat about whatever you like.

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

A happy looking monkey meanders in and looks around at the unpleasant, tiny room. Shaking his head he says "This won't do at all" He pulls a out a banana, takes a bite and begins changing the room around.

First, he expands the room we're in, making it much, much larger. Then he hangs a few glowing balls of warm, pleasant light in the air, brightening the whole place. Next, a big ornate looking table springs into existence covered in all sorts of yummy, delicious food: roasts of meat, racks of ribs, big salads, huge bowls of soup, warm tasty breads, plenty to drink and more. Then he summons up a set of the most comfortable looking chairs you have ever seen, with high backs and very squishy pillows. Finishing his treat, he claps his hands and a live band playing whatever music we desire appears in the back corner.

Satisfied for now he takes a seat in one of the chairs and begins to nom on some chicken. "Well, this is certainly much better"

And who says wild monkeys make terrible house guests?

Male Human Conjurer 6

A patch of blackness peels away from the darkness and a raven swoops leisurely onto the table and starts pecking at the eyes of a succulent boar's head.
"Gartha! Get off the table, you filthy creature!"
Quayne steps forward into the light, his white teeth gleaming, the orange of his robes flickering as if in firelight. He raises a hand towards the raven and she immediately flaps into the air and lands on his shoulder.
"I was going to leave you some."
Quayne addresses the other visitor. "My apologies. Gartha does know better and will be punished if you desire. May I?" Quayne selects a haunch of ham and and a goblet of wine and falls back into a soft chair. Gartha effortlessly stays on his shoulder and appears to be sulking.

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

The monkey laughs at the ravens antics, then speaks to it in raven "He seems cranky. Go ahead and enjoy a snack, there's plenty for everybody." Looking at Quayne, he says "now, now, no need to punish your lovely friend, let her eat."

He claps his hands and the band begins to play a lively upbeat tune.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Quayne chomps thoughtfully at the haunch while the raven glares at him.

"This is lovely, thank you."

Quayne wipes his mouth and wriggles his fingers and a high backed chair slides into the table, its back resting an inch above the edge of the table. A plate floats into position in front of the chair and the roast boar's head floats onto the plate, its stuffed snout hanging out over the edge of the too small plate. A pitcher of water pours itself into a silver goblet which slides over next to the plate. Gartha shifts her footing, ever so slightly.

"You can tell a lot about a culture by its food. Especially the way food is treated and, in particular, the ceremony and customs around food. In Thrane, a guest is obliged to eat all that is placed in front of him. To not do so is a waste, and an insult to your host. In Lhazaar a guest is obliged to leave behind a small portion of food. To not do so is an insult to your host. This shows you are full and your host has fed you well.

Quayne smiles and gives the slightest tip of his head and the raven hops from his shoulder, alights on the back of the chair and goes back to tearing flesh from around the boar's eyes.

You sense a presence in the room with you.
"Greetings fellow avatars. Would you mind terribly relaying a message to your masters for me? Please tell them that my master will monitor this room and that any complaints about how Kiralinsee handles things can be voiced freely here. Kudos and compliments will be accepted as well. My master just wants everyone to enjoy themselves. Pardon me now, I have much else that needs seeing to. Enjoy your meal"
The presence disappears.

What appears to be a large mirror appears on the wall of the room. It does not reflect the contents of the room but instead a series of vague images of dragons and gods and history in the making play across its surface.

On a slight tangent, I am thinkning of DMing a PbP game and since I know you guys are fun to play with I'd like to give you (among some others) first crack at playing in my game.

See interest thread for more info

Hmm, thank you muchly for the invite. Will check out the class and race outlines tomorrow, but unless something really grips me, I'll probably pass since I'm suddenly in 2 PBP games already. :-)

Though it is about time I moved on from wizards again... :-)

Thank-you for the invite as well, but life's a bit too crazy at the moment. Sounds interesting though, I hope it goes well.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Wow, that filled up stupidly fast. Guess that saves me from having to make a tough decision. Good luck and don't forget to visit our game if you get the time. :-)

Male Human Conjurer 6

"Limited wishes, like all wishes, are tricky things, and they are all different. On average, a limited wish will duplicate any arcane spells from the sixth circle, or holy magic within the fifth circle. Reading the future is always tricky, as is changing the past. Possibly, you could dominate a creature, force it to reveal all it knows, mark it for justice or merely curse it. There are few limits except the greed and imagination of an individual, and rarely does one realise these limits until one crosses them and they must deal with the consequences."

Male Human Conjurer 6

Regarding spoilers- I am not fussed one way or the other.
However, if everyone is going to read them, then what is their point?
I assumed they were there to allow knowledge to be kept from other PCs for reason of story, logic, language and roleplaying. I expect guests and GMs to read them all.
As a player, I try to avoid reading spoilers that don't apply to me. After all, if they wanted me to know, they wouldn't go to the trouble of spoilering it.
Anyone who spoilers something then assumes I know what is going on may suddenly find my PC very unhelpful, because I genuinely won't know what's going on.
If people want to discuss non-story stuff, I figure it goes here.
That's my belief, but I will happily slide into however the majority of the party wishes to play things.

Having considered it I agree with Quayne and Raeli about the role of spoilers. Spoilers will be for segregating in character knowledge. Being my first PBP game I hadn't fully thought about the role spoilers play and have just responded in spoilers to questions asked in spoiler. But looking back that has probably just created confusion and awkwardness.

@Quayne
Yeah, thats what they are there for, but I would say it's up to each individual to make the decision whether or not they can separate in-game knowledge from out of game knowledge. I'm pretty sure what Ulvak was talking about when he said he assumed people were reading his spoilers is that we would read it for our own amusement but play our characters like they didn't know the information. I mean even if we wanted to stop other people from reading spoilers, how would we police that?

@Lordjimbo
I think we all assumed you would read everything, after all GM=god

Male Human Conjurer 6

Of course we can't police whether PCs read spoilers. But *assuming* they read spoilers is dangerous if they aren't. If a PC does something that directly ruins your spoiler which you assume they've just read, that will create friction. Without that assumption, maybe they were roleplaying, or maybe they were metagaming- one hopes the former.
My preferences are for not reading spoilers but largely I think that's irrelevant.

If we assume everyone reads spoilers, everyone *should* read spoilers so they don't miss something.
If we assume everyone does not read spoilers, writers must *not* put information in them that they want everyone to know.

If we don't have an agreement, misunderstandings are likely to occur, and the less misunderstandings in this format, the better for everyone. :-)

female shifter (reincarnated elf) Rogue 1/Druid 5 (Pack Lord, Reincarnated Druid)

I don't read spoilers that aren't directed at me; I don't have a problem with anyone else reading *my* spoilers, but I prefer the surprise of learning things in character that might otherwise be, er, spoiled :).

Ah I see what your saying. Making sure no one gets butthurt over a misunderstanding is one of my goals as well. I was assuming people read spoilers just out of curiosity if nothing else and I think we can all separate in character knowledge with real knowledge pretty well but your right that might create confusion. My inclination would be to just let people do whatever they want and trust that they'll be nice but I'll agree to whatever the group wants.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Hi all,

I'm off to Vietnam for 2 weeks. Will try and check in daily, but have no idea what access is like there. It's supposed to be okay where I'm heading, but figured I'd give a heads up anyways, just in case. Will find out in the next few days. :-D avid

Male Human Conjurer 6

Greetings all. Back for more fun and frivolity. :-)

:-D avid

female shifter (reincarnated elf) Rogue 1/Druid 5 (Pack Lord, Reincarnated Druid)

Welcome back! :)

If Raeli and Vaelins are gone that would be pretty unfortunate as it leaves us with two wizards and a little girl. Those two were also the characters with the strongest hooks into the current events and would have provided much of the impetus for the early stories. It would be kinda awkward to disentangle them from the story now, although I guess I could play them as support NPCs. I guess my question would be would you guys like to continue if they are gone?

The above is my absolutely BLERGH! reaction to the thought of losing two PCs, now that I'm not so tired as I was that day I think we should just go with my initial reaction of play and see who drops back in. I hope you guys come back but in the mean time I hope you don't mind if I control your characters in combat just to move things along, apologies if that bugs you.

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

I will definitely continue. I love Ulvak and the game, plus our spooky little girl rocks, lol.

I think, if after another week or so, we should probably look to opening up recruitment once more. There seems to be a lot of people who love Eberron and I think we'd be able to grab another few to fill in spots lost. In fact, there was lots of potential players in a recent interest checking type thread, though nothing ever came of it, so I think you'd be able to get fresh victi.....er, new players, yea, that. lol.

Hehe alright, sounds like a plan.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Another option may be to roll your two games into one. :-)

female shifter (reincarnated elf) Rogue 1/Druid 5 (Pack Lord, Reincarnated Druid)

I'm not gone! Just off the grid for the past few weeks, thanks to severe morning sickness. I'm starting to get my feet back under me and would love to jump back in, if that's okay?

Absolutely! Glad to have you back.

female shifter (reincarnated elf) Rogue 1/Druid 5 (Pack Lord, Reincarnated Druid)

Great! I'll catch up and get a post in this evening. And yes, morning sickness = pregnant. #3 is due in April :).

Male Human Conjurer 6

Welcome back. :)

Male Elf Sorcerer 4(Shadow and Rakshasa)/Dragonmark Heir 2

Ok, so we seemingly have Rae back, but that only leaves us with three PCs, as Kira isn't really a PC.

I would strongly suggest either opening up recruitment again. We are doing the same for my other Eberron game, and have gotten several responses already.
