No issues with moving on. Squeak and Palisade don't need any more time to 'plan'.

I guess this also applies to the items I asked for a while back?

Selective Wand: 1d100 ⇒ 77 Pass
Armor Enhanced to +2 : 1d100 ⇒ 42 Fail
Shield Enhanced to +1: 1d100 ⇒ 27 Fail

Womp womp... Time to downgrade my sheet.

The system is like this.

You give me options for new items to be acquired and I roll to see which one is available assigning probabilities of 50%, 30%, and 20% to your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd selections so the worst you can do is have your third pick.

No need to roll for enhancements; those are always available.

Warforged Cleric 6 | AC 21/23 | HP 51 | HD 5/5 |1st 4/4, 2nd 3/3, 3rd 3/3

Hmm... updates are roll-free still, right? If that's the case, Palisade will upgrade its greatsword to +1 for 2000G, and after that has 5000G to play with.

So, three item options:

1st: Belt of Belt of giant strength +2 (4000gp) and Cloak of resistance +1 (1000gp)
2nd: Amulet of natural armor +1 (2000gp) and Cloak of resistance +1 (1000gp) and +1 upgrade to Half-plate armor (1000gp) and Pearl of power (1st) (1000gp)
3rd: Cloak of resistance +2 (4000gp) and +1 upgrade to Half-plate armor (1000gp)

Bundles were OK, right? Hard to find single items I want that approximate to the wealth Palisade has available. Easier with multiple small purchases, particularly since we don't have tons of items to begin with to fill out all the slots.

his Amulet of Mighty Fists doesn't seem to be on the log.

Headband of Ponderous Recollection (5100) would be interesting if it were made from the salvaged 'brains' of other Warforged. Might be a bit close to John.
Boots of striding and springing make sense - to help him keep up. (5500), but only if Palisade can do 30' armoured.
Vouchsafing armour is an interesting idea (+4000) - would make him very hard to destroy if downed. Sort of feel like it'll probably never come up though.
Circlet of Persuasion is something I can see him picking up IC (4500) though if we went that way I would also ask if I can retrain his 1st level discovery to Pheremones (and work on picking that up somewhere in the next level). The idea of a social monster Warforged "cheating" his way to social acceptance through study and magic appeals to me; not sure how combat useful this would be.

1. Circlet of persuasion (with retraining), 2. Headband. 3. Boots.

Squeak nodded to Vi. "I am afraid I may have deceived you. While we do, absolutely, need to work on our business plan for our restaurant, I also need your help with something else."
Carefully Squeak unrolled a strange, thick parchment on the table. Closer inspection revealed it to in fact be finely rolled, tough pastry. Scribed upon it in food dye was a series of numbered plans; (1) pamphlet drive for suitors (2) giant billboard to attract suitor (3) Mind control (4) pretend anonymous admirer (5) anonymously remove family to create revenge motivation. "Palisade and I are troubled by comrade Lucina. We have considered many plans in our brainstorming to help her. Obviously we believe the best answer at the moment is this one." Squeak pointed to number 2. "We were hoping you could recommend an artist and help us by taking her form so he can get the likeness correct."

Action 2
As always, Lucina was not quite sure how she had been dragged into a sit down restaurant. However, over the last few days of contemplation she had been forced to realize she probably had to call these people her friends. So, she was making concentrated effort to be pleasant. Unfortunately, the only difference between 'pleasant' Lucina and regular Lucina was at most five percent less eye rolling and exasperating sighs during stories of Bronwyn's date and the warforged's ever confused interpretations. Mostly, she sat there looking utterly bored. When the gargoyle entered the restaurant, she straightened up like someone who had been sleeping with their eyes open.

"The lady?" Lucina asked the others, "That's the one you met with before, right? Are you going to go?" She asked, before correcting herself. "I mean, are we going to go?"

Damnit Squeak! I leave to get one bowl of ice cream and you're at it again?

Action 1.3

The other warforged looked at Squeak with confusion. Warforged who understood the mysteries of arcana and construction were few and far between - but not unheard of. Typically they were assigned in one of two positions; either as hardened 'medics' for warforged units - like Squeak - or as assistants to the Cannith mages responsible for the creation and design of new Warforged. Prototype DM-33 was one of these rare breed. DM-33 had been created with an outsize cranium and multiple redundant cognitive processes as part of an experiment on the earlier, much larger warforged to create a more intelligent warforged - an experiment that had succeeded too well in the judgement of house Cannith. After testing, rather than be broken down it had been repurposed as an assistant and outfitted with additional arms and a score of tools capable of working at a detailed level. It had then spent almost fifteen years learning at the feet of one of the most experiences artisans of house Cannith. It was all but unique in surviving both the closing of the Foundries and the Purposelessness that came with the freeing, and arguably one of the greatest minds on the planet.

"And in exchange for this you will teach me the secret of 'Ice Cream'?" DM-33 reiterated.

"Agreed. I have several recipes, and a working example of an item that can create Ice Cream. I am happy to give it to you for study, along with all my notes to this point. Further until you can replicate your own device and master the creation process I am happy to supply you with Ice Cream on a regular basis, too order." Squeak said, in an attempt to tempt DM-33 into agreement.

DM-33 pondered as it was wont to do. "I acknowledge you are the Warforged with greatest mastery of 'Cooking'. This knowledge would be useful to me in my Purpose. I am prepared to craft a cognitive enhancer to these specifications, and agree it is not in violation of my ordered limits... but" it asked, and only another warforged would have realised the monotone was curiosity "why? This would dramatically increase your perceptive memory, but without a corresponding increase in sensory enhancements you would be limited to more information about the sensors you already have. Your linguistic ability would be increased, but you already capable of learning all human languages, given time. The changes to your internal structure will require removing most of your redundancies. Think of the risk. How does this help your Purpose?"

Squeak paused "In truth, it does not. It is neutral to my Purpose. It is to aid in scientific advancement." he paused and went on "My companion Palisade and I have observed non-verbal communication amongst human beings."

DM-33 froze "Non-verbal communication? This has been theorised. The 'body language' theory, yes? Attempts to communicate using it have been so rudimentary as to be useless. Even humans cannot use it to communicate more than basic concepts. Do you believe you have finally found a rosetta stone?"

Squeak paused, gathered his intellectual courage and rushed on. "I believe there are at least two forms of non-verbal communication. Indeed, I have categorised six candidates so far." DM-33 took a step backwards, but the smaller warforged pressed on "These are used in unison to convey concepts, along with verbal language. Humans are capable of processing this on an unconscious level, but our requirement for conscious processing means that I will need an enormous upgrade in cognitive ability." Squeak indicated the requirement document "thus, the need for an upgrade."

The room was silent as DM-33's giant frame and multiple brains focused on the enormity of what Squeak was saying. "I cannot tell if you are a genius, or you have gone mad, unit Squeak. I will upgrade you, though. The risk to you is worth the potential gain to myself."

A querulous tone echoed from the old man in the room next door "Dummy? Dummy? Where are you! Dummy!" and DM-33 pivoted instantly to respond as his primary Purpose kicked in.

"I believe my charge has soiled himself again. Return in two days." the giant Warforged, one of the greatest minds ever created, now nurse to an old senile man announced as it moved through the oversized door to where it's creator lay. "You will have your upgrade. Bring Ice Cream. He says it reminds him of his childhood."

Action 2

Squeak looked around the room, his new processors working overtime as they continued to decode the conversations around him. Musical notation flooded his mind as the humans talked, volume indicators flashing in time. stick figure diagrams echoed human postures and wireframes tracked facial expressions. Lines tracked from every eyeball, showing focal distance and even siccades. Smells issued constantly, proportions changing in minuscule amounts. His new processor, humming intently, categorised everything.
In the corner a man leaned against the bar near a woman. Languages he didn't know he was speaking flooded Squeak's mind as the man gently, almost unconsciously put a hand on the woman. 'He is attempting to mate with her' Squeak realised, and as the woman pulled away slightly, then stopped 'She is saying no - wait, she is prepared to be further courted.' despite the fact he couldn't hear their words, Squeak realised he could deduce the cadence, volume ad tone they used.
The room was a riot of colour and gestures, sound and smell. Palisade was a calm, black spot in the middle of the room. No smell. No sound - he had no need to talk at this point. No gestures, or pupils, or any of the other ways humans talked.
Finally the damage warnings - humans would describe them as 'searing pain' Squeak decided - approached critical and Squeak shut down his new processors. Everything faded once more into mundane objects, shapes and words. Blinking - eyelids were a new upgrade - Squeak replayed the last few moments in his head. "I believe so." he agreed to Lucina, his voice once again a monotone.

Warforged Cleric 6 | AC 21/23 | HP 51 | HD 5/5 |1st 4/4, 2nd 3/3, 3rd 3/3

Yup, as Squeak said, if our chatter gets on your nerves tell us in OOC – anything said in IC can and will be misunderstood to increase confusion ;^) I love this chemistry we have going here, but it might be irritating to be on the receiving end of it.

Also, nice work with the item acquisition post, Squeak. We’ll figure out those pesky humans in the end! Surely a robust enough a flow chart will solve the mystery, once we have amassed a critical mass of raw data.

Action 2

Palisade had automatically reached for its greatsword as the gargoyle made its approach, ready to defend Lady d’Deneith from the potential enemy. As it considered the situation it had to admit that a gargoyle in a human restaurant was only slightly less conspicuous assassin as a Warforged like itself, but there was always the possibility an assaulter had, showing particular twisted cunning, decided this would mean no-one would suspect it until it was too late – that no-one would be brazen enough for such an approach. The House Vadalis signet it noticed lowered the creature’s threat rating slightly – it would be a risk attacking a ‘marked noble of House Deneith openly. To do so while wearing the colours of another House would double the risk. It was wise of the creature to drop its message on the table rather than try to hand it to Lady d’Deneith directly – that might have demanded a quick reassessment of the risks involved and possibly called for a pre-emptive strike to defend the Lady.

Squeak wrote:

Palisade glanced at its squad mate, noting the unusual lacklustre response. The other ‘forged had appeared somewhat wide-eyed of late, if Palisade was forced to find a single adjective to describe the change it had observed. Still, as long as it didn’t it wouldn’t accept unit Squeak’s performance, it was a private matter and not its to business.

”Note. Previous missions from individual Lady E have resulted in considerable danger to Lady d’Deneith’s safety. This one urges for caution when evaluating the advantages of continued association.”

Your recent library trips have led to find out about a Blade of Frost said to have been forged to aid those faithful to the Children of Winter. Action 1.5
She hadn't been sleeping well, and due to her fatigue, it took Vi several moments to understand what was happening. At first, she was so befuddled by the pastry paper that she didn't understand that she was meant to be reading it. Finally, she looked at Squeak, looked at the plans, and the glowsphere illuminated. "You...are trying to help Lucina? With....this?" She hadn't been privy to their discussion about Lucina's purposelessness, but Bronwyn had filled her in.

For a moment she wrestled with a grin that threatened to become hysterics, but she managed to swallow it down. She knew that Squeak was dead serious, and he deserved a serious answer.

When she was sure she had her expression under control, she said, "Okay, we start by scratching 3 and 5 right off. Mind control is NEVER okay. It's no different from what the sword was trying to do to Bronwyn. Even if you're doing it for "her own good", it's a great big NO. Same with killing her family. Murder is never the answer. Especially not murdering your friend's family. Imagine how you would feel if somebody killed Bronwyn, simply so you'd stop fooling around with this restaurant idea?"

As she considered the "suitor" options, she had to admit that she was tempted. "Traveller knows, that girl could use a good float in the clouds. But I think a billboard is over the top. People are likely to assume that she's a prostitute." And while Vi - as Tiatha - knew the benefits of prostitution, she was pretty sure Lucina would die of embarrassment. "Same with the pamphlets. They might look more like "advertisement of services". I'm pretty sure that's not the type of purpose that Lucina is after."

She considered the comedic possibilities of option 4, and decided that she liked it. After all, I can step in if it looks like it's getting out of hand. And Lucina's likely to see through it anyway. "This one," she said. "Who knows, it might liven her up a little." She was going to leave it there, but honesty compelled her to add, "You know, you should consider the option that her current purpose is to FIND her purpose. Her true, soul-bound purpose, not the one we think she should have. It may be that the best thing we could do is just be with her and witness her discovery. But, on the other hand, flowers and pastry from an invented gent can't hurt. Probably."

Four shall thou not count, neither count thou two, unless excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is RIGHT OUT.

Vi had barely been able to concentrate through dinner. Her jaw was sore from all the yawning, and even the delicacies on the menu weren't enough to tempt her appetite. The nightmares had returned, in force, and she barely slept at all. Ritual bloodletting wasn't helping; even her sister had offered some blood, and that had done nothing. The dagger wanted blood, and cold, and death, and Vi was running out of ideas.

When Bronwyn read out the note, Vi actually breathed a sigh of relief.

Quote:
Lucina sighed at Palisade's predictable response. "I doubt the act of hearing her out will cause harm to come to Bronwyn, unless you have reason to suspect an ambush. "

"Thank the Host!" Vi sat forward, unaware that her hand was on the dagger hidden under her clothes. "Yes, let's go see her! Maybe she has something to get us out of the city!"

I assume Palisade already had its shield at hand, since that can be carried legally in the streets… thus, draw hammer, move to the closest enemy and engage… against the undead, Palisade’s Undead Bane shield will boost his AC to 28 and give it RD 2/-.

Also… since Palisade has shield equipped Saving Shield comes into play… targeting it can be a bit tricky considering we aren’t chatting around a table, so I’ll just have to go by with general rules and Fabian has final judgement. Palisade can, with an immediate action, give one adjacent ally a +2 AC bonus against a single attack every turn. IF Bronwyn is adjacent, Palisade will save the proc for her, in case she gets attacked. IF Bronwyn isn’t adjacent, Palisade will use that for anyone who happens to be the first one to be struck, unless I call otherwise. That OK with you, Fabian?

Action 2

There was a certain sense of… satisfaction as Palisade’s predictions of doom came true so quickly after accepting their mysterious benefactor’s latest invitation. Although the fact that being right in this instance immediately increased risk to Lady d’Deneith’s health made sure the alien thought remained fleeting.

”Initiating combat. Lady d’Deneith, please remain behind to provide covering fire,” Palisade said calmly as it charged towards the closest Karrnathi corpse, drawing its heavy hammer and readying its shield, congratulating itself on its choice of protective enchantment. Trusting the Emerald Claw wouldn’t leave them alone would proved worth every Galifar spent, it reasoned.

Using its shield to knock the animated corpse back and breaking its stance, Palisade swung its hammer, catching the enemy on the jaw, almost breaking its neck as the heavy blow snapped the undead’s head back.

We could take inventory of the most commonly used words and phrases and from those construct a master set of… ‘rose-coloured words to set the heart aflutter,’” Palisade continued, hesitating as it quoted words it once remembered hearing but had never truly understood. ”If humans have managed it in their disorganized fashion, surely we can use logic and statistics to at least match their work.”

I'm also assuming I keep my shield out, when allowed, since, both the party and I have enemies. Also, it sounds like we saw that there was trouble before we entered.

Though the expressionless warforged did not say 'I told you so', Lucina still frowned when he looked her way. "Well I did ask if an ambush was likely..." she grumbled.

Seeing that the woman they were hoping to meet was injured and surrounded, Lucina decided to wade into the fight and try to draw attention to herself. Grimacing, she let out shout as thorns sprouted all over her body. Moving in with her shield raised, she approached the nearest zombie and punched.

Ice currently is a +1 frost weapon (with special ability on a critical hit).

Therefore, its bonuses are +1 to hit and +1+1d6 (cold) on damage.

If Lady E is in C2, assuming that Lucina and Palisade is moving towards the one at B4 (as the closest) and Squeak is moving towards Lady E, perhaps drawing out the guy at F3. Lets have Bronwyn will shoot fire at that one (F3) so nobody else gets singed. Let's put Palisade in B4, Lucina in C3, and Vi will run to B2, using Acrobatics unchained to not provoke an AoO, hopefully.

acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 Whelp that won't do it.
ICE ICE BABY: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
damage: 1d4 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 5 + (4) = 12 Last 1d6 is cold damage. Remember that I have assault leader, which means that if I miss, a flanking ally gets a free hit.

Roaring in pleasure, Vi practically flew across the room, Ice dropping into her hand from her new arm sheath as she did so. Skidding past the nearest skelly, she put herself in flanking position with Palisade, and her blade flashed out, clattering against ribs and carving out chunks of frozen bone.

The passing students gave the two warforged sidelong looks, as the two of them sat silently, reading, large piles of books and scrolls neatly lined on the table before them. For a long time, only the occasional soft creak of wood and clatter of metal had broken the silence as the two turned pages and moved books from one pile into another as they were finished with them.

”Observation. Unit Squeak, this one believes it has made a discovery,” Palisade said suddenly, making sure to keep its voice suitably lowered, considerate of their surroundings. ”It would seem a significant number of poems begin with this phrase or a variation of it. Quote: ‘Roses are red, violets are blue.’ This one believes this is the writers attempt to indicate his intention of writing a truthful summary of a subject by beginning by stating two things that are generally accepted to be true. Of course, in the sloppy way that seems so typical to humans they have avoided the logically correct absolute: ‘Most roses are red, while most violets are blue’. This one believes this fact will prove useful in our efforts to construct an original poem. For example: ‘Rain is wet, dust is dry’ would seem to fulfil the criteria. A more accurate declaration would naturally be ‘Rain is often wet (ambient temperature allowing), dust is usually dry (unless drenched by aforementioned rain or similar source of moisture)’, but this one believes that does not ‘roll off the tongue’ as well.”

"I believe you have hit upon a critical point. I wonder if there is a reason for the more succinct - if inaccurate - sentences." Squeak pondered a little more "I believe the humans are attempting to use a number of methods to aid in mnemonic recall. Short sentences. Rhymes. Similar number of syllables. Yes, it makes sense. Perhaps there are other mechanisms."
"Very well; 'Roses are red' - 4 syllables, ends with ed. 'Violets are blue' - 4 syllables, ends with oo. Therefore the next line needs to be 4 syllables and end with ed. 'Your enemies are dead...' No, that is too long. 'You have a head'. That should work - a statement of truth, 4 syllables, ends with ed." Squeak considered some more "Let's work this from tors."

Squeak cleared a spot on the black board and wrote;

Dear Lucina. You are comparatively attractive for a human female and I would like to engage in ritual mating behaviour.

"Alright. We need to break that up into short, equivalent syllable points, that end in rhymes. How about..."

Lucina.
1. You are attractive because;
2. Your features are symmetrical.
3. You are slightly above average height.
4. You are not overweight.
5. Your eyes are like <insert thing humans like>
6. You smell like <item #2>
7. Your voice is like <item #3>
8. Your <feature> is like <item>
9. Please mate with me.

"Now. We just need to trim each line to 4 syllables, and make them rhyme. Maybe exaggerate the emotions? Then the roses are red and violets are blue become part of a marketing strategy to make it easier to accept the lies later."

Lucina.
1. Roses are red.
2. Violets are blue.
3. I love your head.
4. Nothing askew.
5. Tall like a tree.
6. Slim as a snake
Squeak paused. "No, humans don't like snakes. They like bunnies, and kittens, that sort of thing. She likes owls though..."
6. Shape of an owl.
7. Smell of a cake.
"Everyone loves cake. Cake's great. Tree doesn't rhyme though... maybe something about a Lake? Shake? Wake?"
8. I heard you howl.
9. Like an angel.
Squeak paused "What do you think so far? I heard that howl comment at a bar the other night. I think it's something to do with replication."
10. We should be wed.
11. I love your smell.
"I can never work out what smells they like. Let's make it generic." Squeak added then flashed forward in inspiration.
12. We all end up dead.
"I put that last one in to show that he cares about her hobbies. Ah - too many syllables... I hate undead?"
13. Violets are blue.
14. Roses are red.
"Something something oo. Show. True? Aha! You!"
15. I need you.
"Needs a word."
15. I need you, true.
16. Come to my bed.
"I heard that at a bar the other night as well."

Squeak paused to look at the verses, shuffled a few around, and changed a few words.
Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
I love your head.
Nothing askew.
Caught in your wake.
Shape of an owl.
Smell of a cake.
I heard you howl.
Like an angel.
I hate undead.
I love your smell.
We should be wed.
Violets are blue.
Roses are red.
I need you, true.
Come to my bed.

"I think I know what you're wondering. Is it too good?" Squeak asked Palisade.

Masterful. I don't even know how Lucina will respond to that...

Boy did you deliver ;^)

Palisade had sat stock-still during Squeak's presentation. True, to a casual observer that was hardly different how the 'forged usually acted, when there was no reason for it to move its body, but someone who had known Palisade for as long as Squeak had could note the reverent awe in its posture.

"Impressed. Unit Squeak. You have mastered poetry. This goes beyond mere construction. No, a poem was just engineered before this one's eyes! As ever, this one is impressed by the depth and width of your expertise. Even elder brother agrees," Palisade said, nodding towards the small rodent who had made itself a nest between two piles of books. He now raised its tiny little whiskered head from his bedding of parchment, stolen from the stack Palisade had brought for making notes.

Bastion flicked his gaze from Palisade to Squeak, twitching his nose when his red gemstone eyes came to rest on the alchemist and sneezed.

"The elder brother has blessed your work," Palisade translated, nodding its head to the rodent in gratitude. "True, the poem might be too perfect for a work of a mere human artist, but then you did point out previously that companion Lucina Mindragus seemed suspiciously disinterest in the concept of finding a mate. This one has always been greatly impressed with the proverb 'If it doesn't work, use a bigger hammer.' Your masterful poem is that bigger hammer, one even she should not be able to ignore."

"This one warns you, however, to prepare for the eventually of her somehow discovering the true author of the poem. Surely she will be stuck speechless with love and adoration towards that mysterious admirer. Were she to find out the truth, you need to either accept her love or turn her down gently. We are trying to help her after all, not cause her the discomfort of a broken heart."

I was updating Squeak with the equipment and realised both the circlet and pheremones grant a competence bonus. I thought the pheremones gave an alchemical bonus. Is it possible to swap one of them to a different bonus so they stack? If not I will need to switch for it bog standard headband of charisma +2, please.

remind me - the DR 5/slashing means that it takes off the first 5 points of damage for everything EXCEPT slashing, right? So if I hit with ice, I get full damage?

Warforged Cleric 6 | AC 21/23 | HP 51 | HD 5/5 |1st 4/4, 2nd 3/3, 3rd 3/3

That meant that slashing damage ignored the DR... so there things were more zombies than skeletons, then? The picture made me thing the opposite. Anyway, dropping shield and hammer and drawing greatsword takes too much time, so instead, let's make use of Sacred Weapon. I think it's way too gimmicky power but it does have some uses... in this instance, let's use one charge to apply Flaming to Palisade's warhammer for one turn, as it's a swift action. Then cleave both enemies in reach (AC goes down to 26 for the round.

Noting its choice of a weapon had proved sub-optimal, Palisade nevertheless decided the time was not right to discard its shield so it could wield its long blade. Instead, the warpriest called upon its goddess and grey flames wreathed its hammer briefly as the 'forged smashed its hammer into the undead to its right, then spinning around to catch the other one with the back swing.

Warhammer, cleave: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Damage, Warhammer, flaming: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 4 + (4) = 15 10 goes through the DR

Warhammer, cleave: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Damage, Warhammer, flaming: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 4 + (2) = 13 8 goes through the DR

Full attack, and 5ft to the right. AC is still 18.
attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 2 = 28damage: 1d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + (5, 2) = 17
attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 2 = 27damage: 1d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 4 + (5, 2) = 12
attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 2 = 13damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (6, 4) = 16

Squeak lurched into ferocious action, the holy runes engraved into his chassis burning with holy power as he struck again and again. "I find you defective!" he buzzed through churning counter-rotating blades "Non-compliant! Marked for disposal!"

Yay! Thank you!

Action 2

Squeak considered carefully. "Your opinion is important to us." he intoned; a holy proverb from the sacred book he had never truly understood until this moment. "To say it is Engineered... I can imagine no higher certification of quality. I felt something move in my translation circuits, an understanding of humanity I had never had before. I suspect divine assistance."

"The poem is manifestly Fit for Purpose, Engineered by Duly Sanctioned Employees of the Creator. To mark it for Disposal now, because of fear of side effects, without first at least submitting it for Preliminary Testing would be wrong." Squeak sighed "Should Lucina deduce the true source, then I will need to keep up the charade. Fortunately the human lifespan is relatively finite. HOWEVER" he added quickly "I would greatly value your wisdom and experience in planning additional defences and contingencies to prevent Lucina from deducing the Origin." A moment passed "For example, if we render it in blood on a sufficiently non-permeable surface it would look like a living creature wrote it, presumably while out of ink. As we cannot bleed it would be illogical to assume a Forged was behind it."

Action 1

Vi was slightly alarmed by Squeak's turn of phrase. "You don't mean, like, actually, construct one, do you? I mean, physically? Because you shouldn't be making Lucina a golem boyfriend or anything like that. But if you want to pretend there's a guy that actually doesn't exist - that's pretty easy. Just send things to her through an intermediary. Either use the official channels through House Sivis Is that the right house? I'm away from my source material, or hire a local runner to bring things to her. You can either make up a name to sign them from, or you can just sign them from "An anonymous admirer"." Vi was already beginning to regret approving this course of action. She considered telling Squeak to never mention her involvement, should/when the ruse come to light. But that would almost certainly result in the opposite. I assure you, companion Vi Olaro had nothing to do with approving this attempt to instil you with purpose. She certainly did not spend any time plotting with me how to bring this plan to a successful conclusion.
