Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 Oh yeah...

Palisade merely nodded its head at the mention of the wolves eating the bodies of the dead - the humans were not using the bodies anymore, so putting the meat to use seemed only prudent to the 'forged. Waste not, as it were. Although the thought of partially eaten corpses regrowing, yet still remaining dead seemed... wrong in a vaguely disturbing way to it. Against the rules of nature as Palisade understood them.

Never lowering its guard just because one of the beasts appeared intelligent and was willing to talk, the 'forged nevertheless noticed something strange about the wolf. For guards or perhaps test subjects, chains were what it had expected, but the fine colored rods affixed to the chains didn't belong.

"Observation. What is the purpose of those rods attached to your chains?" Palisade asked bluntly.

Do those things look anything like the blue key we have?

The wolf shook her head, "I have not seen this but there are places that we have not searched. There's a large ball of flame in one place."

At Palisade's question, the wolf explained, "This allows us to use the moving spheres and lets get to different places in the complex."

Bronwyn finally sees the other rods as they're pointed out by Palisade. "I wonder how your blue key differs from the one we have, if at all?"

She then nods at the mention of the flaming sphere, "We saw it as well but didn't engage. We need to figure out a way to destroy it with water."

Action 1

Vi didn't really want to tell the huge wolf the bad news, but she needed to hear the truth. "Outside, it is much like inside. Almost everybody is dead. Perhaps their bodies regenerate, I haven't noticed. The land is sharp and poisonous, and there are living spells, like that ball of fire, roaming around. We can certainly help you get out of here - it will require carrying you all up a long ladder. And, if you like, we can lead you out of this dead place, called Mournland, and back to regular land."

Action 2

Looking at the others, Vi said, "What'll it be? Fire? Or deadly stone wolf?"

Oh darling GM, can you do me a favour? When slowly revealing a map like this, can you include a summary of all the exposed areas at the bottom of the map, in each turn recap? It'll save a lot of time having to go back and search through recaps, looking for the descriptions of W8, W12 etc. And yes, it's because I'm very lacy.

Female Human Fire Adept Wizard/5 | HP 32 | Init +2 | AC12 | Mage armor AC15 |

Action 2:

Bronwyn shrugged, "I'll always choose fire but not necessarily to fight but rather fight with. I guess we can go back to the laundry room and douse robes in water to fight the ball of fire. We also have the resist energy scroll for someone to use against fire. On the other hand we have the stone wolf who may be affected by fire. Rorsa, it's just the one stone wolf, right? None of the other wolves will help it, will they?"

That's so nice that Vi is lacy :) I thought Bronwyn was the girly one.

"Wolves, yes. Wolves that talk, not so much. There are Wolf riders amongst the Hobgoblins. There are places where you could go to live alongside humanoids. There are even a few places you could go to live alone, hunting." Squeak paused - it had taken him a long time to understand the strange customs that humanoids used to stay together. "But, to live out there, you will need something to trade. Humans, especially, value trade greatly. They have a medium of exchange to make it easier."
"We pretty much intended to ransack this place on our way out. If you are leaving you should help us take everything of value, in exchange for a share of it, transport and advice. You can then trade that share to humans in exchange for food, shelter, protection or territory." he sighed "I doubt there is enough here to sustain you indefinitely. You will later need to find more things to trade. Probably you will end up trading your labour for a medium of exchange, then that medium of exchange for other things you want. It is a complicated system."
Squeak looked over at Palisade, then back "Humans will let other humans starve, die of exposure, or lose their freedom if they cannot trade. This enables them to remove those who are not useful to society. It is a cold, callous, uncaring system. If you have something to trade, it can be quite comfortable, however."

”Assuming we can rely on them not to turn on us once we have engaged another enemy,” Palisade muttered in what it chose to think was a whisper. ”Wolves are predators. Even though this single individual seems intelligent, who can say whether they think long-term or are looking for an immediate advantage? Although this one can not guess as to their motivation for betrayal – it seems they are not short on food and what else would they gain from killing us?”

"Wolf it is," Vi said, sounding more confidant than she felt. She didn't particularly like or trust animals at the best of times, and a big, pony-sized wolf/killing machine did little to reverse that inclination. Looking at the two Warforged and the fire-wielding wizard, she said, "Probably little enough I can do to help. I'll hang back and let you guys take point."

Any chance for Palisade to pre-activate Artifice blessing just before we enter, since we know there is a hostile construct-thingey waiting for us?

Pleased that it had finally mastered its footing on the shifting floor, Palisade entered the room with hammer and shield ready, although it did spare the occasional glance to their lupine guide – while it hadn’t figured out a plausible reason for the sentient wolf to betray them, it didn’t mean that Palisade trusted it any further than it could throw it.

Squeak wrote:
"Someone heal Vi, please. Her leaking is disconcerting."

Leaking… *snicker*

”This one is down to a single use of a severely limited healing blessing,” Palisade answered. ”Considering its current lack of potency, reserving it to emergency stabilization of a dying ally seems prudent.”

Of course, since we have 3 injured it might be worth using one of Rokko’s Channels rather than Palisade’s Fervor.

You may buff up before the fight (cast artifice blessing, heal Vi, etc.).

The stone wolf is resistant to magic (anything that has spell resistance will NOT affect it).

It also is DR 5/something... (roll not quite good enough).

Squeak cast expeditious retreat
@Bronwyn; don't forget Alchemist Fire!
Squeak trusted to his formidable chassis to protect him, and ran around the wolf. Cannith had a tendency to concentrate armour on the front of most constructs - he should know - and thus while it was distracted was a good time to go for the more vulnerable areas.
His fist hammered home - a terrible weapon, but the best he had, in the circumstances. Plates cracked, but did not shatter. "It's fast." warned Squeak "Heavy plates."
Wolf gets an AoO.

Bronwyn tried not to pout when Squeak said that magic wouldn't work against the stone wolf. She was nothing without her magic. But he also said that fire might work. The only non-magical fire she had was the couple flasks of alchemist's fire. Taking one of the flasks, she yelled, "Incoming!" and lobbed it at the stone wolf. It didn't make direct contact and the wizard added, "Sorry!" as others were splashed with the fiery contents.

Impressive damage, Vi. I still can't wrap my brain around the fact that you can actually sneak attack things like undead and constructs in Pathfinder ;^)

"Please pay it no mind, Lady d'Deneith," Palisade said, watching with idle curiosity as a few stray flames danced on its arm, dwindling by the moment as the alchemical oil was consumed. "Impressive display, companion Vi Olaro," the 'forged went on, giving the fallen construct one last smack with its hammer to make sure it was truly defeated and not merely playing possum.

It was funny seeing a pony-sized wolf be cautious but there was Rorsa, waiting in the back until the all clear sign.

Her impressions of the humans grew as she saw her previous nemesis destroyed. The wolves, seven in all, did what other canines when they greeted each other. There was yapping, whining and a stray growl at the humanoids which Rorsa quickly quieted with a sharp bark.

A closer look at the place revealed 11 kennels with ever-filling water and food for the wolves, obviously some sort of Cannith research going on.

A pile of garbage included a few odds and ends collected from the wizards and artificers who died. This pile included an orange keycharm, an essence node of blinding, a House Cannith signet ring, and a small mithral-and-bloodstone brooch depicting a crescent moon (worth 130 gp).

As he walked past Palisade he quietly reached out and snuffed a little burning patch of oil.

When freed
Carefully Squeak watched to see what the wolves did. He'd made a study of communication among the organic. The wolves obviously spoke primarily using body language, like the old men who fished down at the wharf. He noted the need for a tail and ears to do proper expressions were he to try to learn to speak to them.

In case I haven't mentioned it lately, I'm still bitter about the complete lack of any appropriate avatar for a changeling. Here's the closest to what I have in mind when she's in natural form. Vi's pic

Vi shook white hair from her face and grinned. She danced the dagger across the back of her hand, then flipped it easily and sheathed it. "B, if I haven't thanked you yet...thanks. This is one hell of a weapon. I think I'm in love." She gave it a fond pat, then moved to inspect the garbage pile in the corner.

"Hey, another key! And another ring. I'm starting a collection. Here, B, this is your style," she flipped the moon-shaped broach over to her. "And this looks magicy - take a look."

When the wolf pack finished greeting each other, Vi held up the orange key and said, "Want to see what's behind door number orange? Or finish the fireball first? My vote is orange, for the record."

Female Human Fire Adept Wizard/5 | HP 32 | Init +2 | AC12 | Mage armor AC15 |

Nice choice for pic!

Bronwyn giggled at Vi's antics. "I'm glad you're enjoying it but I think we should find you something cuddly to love rather than something deadly."

Once the items were collected from the pile in the corner, the wizard spoke arcane words over it to see if any of the items were magical.

Casting Detect Magic

Bronwyn turned the brooch over in her hands. "It certainly is pretty."

"Orange works for me. It's best to explore as much as we can and then decide what to go back to later."
