Well, since we don't have any clue what's behind any of the doors and I imagine we'll go through them all in the end, unless we need to bail out fast for some reason, it doesn't really matter. But I vote for the NE option, just because ;^)

Having had her fun, she sobered up at Rokko's chiding. "I wonder if there's anything interesting in here. Other than a years-old spell making laundry for nobody."

She began poking around, wondering if some old Bull had hidden a magical trinket or two away down here.

Vi hopped around the moving room, enjoying the novelty of the clever design.

Her light mood turned somber at the sight and smell of the corridor. Holding up a hand for silence, she surveyed for a moment. Softly, she said, "There's light - a fire maybe - coming from that room. And there are bones here. Human bones. We must be very careful. Whoever did this might still be here."

Action 1
Squeak held on to his secure points, grim as death. His model's design flaw was simple; low strength to mass ratio. He could move, if a little slowly, but he simply hadn't been designed to support his body mass using only the actuators of his upper body.
"I hate this thing." he moaned, as he felt his fingers gouging through the metal of the sphere.
reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
As the sphere slowed down its rotation, he spoke again.
"A thought occurs. The colour of the locks may match the colour of the keys. This could be a simple security level system. We should look for a pattern to the rooms we come across, and check for other keys."

perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
"Alarm! This seems like a trap. Evidence of extreme and lethal heat. Suggest we immediately rotate to prevent damage to Objective!" The words burst from Squeak's mouth even as his mind pondered the likely ramifications. It was likely Bronwyn - a fire mage - was likely going to be intrigued by this room. It was also likely she was going to order an investigation regardless of the potential danger to herself.
Is there any evidence around the doorframe that suggests the heat might have penetrated into the sphere (or at the sphere's exterior)?
Also, someone headstrong overrule him, please.

Edited due to be ninja'd :P

Bronwyn's eyes were immediately drawn towards the flickering that looked like fire down the corridor. "That looks like a fire up ahead. Someone must be down here to have lit it." She wrinkled her nose in disgust at the mixture of smells. The burnt wood was nice but combined with the smell of burnt flesh, it was stomach turning. "I hope this isn't the kitchen. Otherwise whoever has been cooking has the same talent for it that I do."

Bronwyn nodded her agreement, "We should definitely be looking for a brown and green rod, similar to the blue one we have."

Squeak wrote:

Bronwyn went to take a step forward into the tunnel. "Relax Squeak. You just said that we needed to find out if there was a pattern to the rooms and that we need to check for other keys. If we don't go investigate, we won't know (a) what kind of room this is or (b) whether there's a key - like behind that door or around the corner."

Thinking all the charring is from a trap of some sort. Does Vi want to take a look or are you going to let Bronwyn continue?

Bronwyn had to resist the urge to run into the barracks and study the spell in action. She understood that fire spells were not to be trifled with but it would also be fascinating to see another spell at work that was seemingly alive. "I wonder if it has any consciousness? It doesn't seem to burn things at random or the whole place would be on fire. Rather it either targeted the living or was drawn towards movement."

At the mention of the bathroom and water, Bronwyn said, "That's our best bet. Water is obviously the enemy of fire which is why it is so painfully difficult for me to cast any spells involving water. I wonder if it would blindly follow someone into that pool or if it would recognize it as a danger?"

Male Warforged Artificer (Alchemist) 5. AC 21. HP 43/43. HD 5/5, 1st 4/4. 2nd 2/2.

'It is at times like this' reflected Squeak 'That one wishes for eyebrows to raise.'
"A giant pulsing ball of fire?' he queried, checking he had heard correctly. "Just sitting there, all these years? Do you think we could reason with it?"

Squeak coughed "First of all, I think we should remember that Palisade and I are the easiest to heal. We especially want to avoid more damage to Vi."

"Secondly - do we need to do this NOW? We could scout the available rooms and come back. Perhaps the next room will have some method of dispelling this thing - or at least a number of buckets."

male

FYI, Bronwyn would know that living spells are akin to oozes in that they have AC, hit points, etc. and can be destroyed.

"This one seconds the suggestion," Palisade said. "With us in side and in possession of the key, it does not look likely enemy forces can enter the facility. We should take the opportunity to explore the available options before risking further injury. Hesitant addition. It is possible that taking too long here will subject individual Failin to mortal danger, in which case he might flee to preserve his life or remain to fight an enemy and die in the process. Both possibilities would lead to us losing our means of transport out from the Mournlands, which would be inconvenient."

male

Also FYI, the rooms that Vi inspected were only 'briefly' inspected. Just enough to take a quick look and then report back.

Just to clarify, you need a 'key' (rod) to both operate the rotating room from the inside and also to call it from the outside.

"I agree," Vi said, stepping away from the corridor. "We especially want to avoid damage to me. Ugh, I hate decisions like this. You know there's probably something down there that we need - one of the other rods or something. I'm all for delaying the inevitable, but since we're here, and we don't know if anybody else is coming, we should probably take care of it."

Shaking her head, she said, "I'd forgotten about Failin. But I wouldn't worry to much about him. He'll scamper if he sees trouble, and we can call him with the shell if we need to."

Peeking back down, she asked Bronwyn, "So, how do we fight it? Just shoot it full of nice flammable arrows? Can it see? Would being invisible help? How do we trick it into the tub? I really don't want to burn up down here."

male

so...

what will try to do?

Rokko: you still with us? you've been kind of quiet lately.

Female Human Fire Adept Wizard/5 | HP 32 | Init +2 | AC12 | Mage armor AC15 |

Bronwyn answered, "It can be hurt and eventually destroyed but I'm not sure how to fight it exactly. Like I said, water would do the worst damage to it. Squeak had a good idea in that we should check the other rooms for items that may hold water such as buckets. If we can't find buckets, or something similar, we can go back to the laundry room and grab a bunch of the robes to drench in water and toss on the burning sphere."

Current Face: Mei'Vi, elven explorer AC 15 | HP45/45 | Saving Throws: Dex, Int | Init +3 | Perc +8 | Invis ring charges left 1/3 | Inspiration 1/1

"Right...buckets. I'm sure we'll find loads." Sighing, Vi said, "Well, I'm in no hurry to fight this thing. So let's try the next room. And fellas," she said, looking at the Forged, "do try and keep your feet this time."

Action 1:

Bronwyn was excited to see what she thought was a library until she realized that most of the books were ledgers instead of something interesting. She rolled her eyes and sighed which was when she spotted the scroll that the woman was pinning to the desk with her face. Approaching cautiously, the wizard looked at the parchment and realized it was a useful scroll rather than just more inventories.

If she needs to detect magic, she will. Plus you have it written in loot so I'm assuming she identifies what it is.

She gently pulled the scroll out from under the woman. She also took the signet ring off her finger. "Lady E may be interested in having this."

Action 2:

The bloody drag marks, even if dried, were not what the wizard wanted to see.

perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Bronwyn was surprised when she actually heard noise coming from the room on the left. She whispered to the others, "There's some sort of yapping and water splashing coming from that room. How odd. What do you make of that? And what does it have to do with the blood?"

Sorry. If I'm quiet I'm still here, but occasionally I struggle to post.

"Does the ring do anything other that identify a Cannith heir? Could it open any doors?" asked Rokko.

Action 2

"Don't know about the noise. But something dragged off to, quite possibly, be eaten suggests undead like ghouls," whispered Rokko grimly.

More that latter than the former, but sometimes it's a bit more difficult to get inspired when I'm busy and/or tired. There is an added layer of inconvenience too as I cant access the Google Docs documents directly from work, so I either have to use my phone or wait until I get home.

Would it help if I email you the turn? I have to do that in another game I GM. I don't like to because I forget sometimes but I'll do it if it will help stay engaged so just let me know.

Squeak had moved to stop Bronwyn - but too late. Humans might be soft, squishy, and periodically down for maintenance, but they certainly could move when they wanted to.

Action 2
"Water would be helpful." Squeak agreed quietly.

"Wait, Vi. Remember the breastplate? You should wear the symbol of the house. Why don't you wear the dead woman's ring, clothes, and face? Maybe some of the precautions will leave you alone." Squeak paused in thought "That said, my money is on a rogue element. It seems as if something happened here that caused all of the house to be killed almost at once. Surely the scribe's body would have been buried or looted otherwise?"

"I'm not as skilled as you at scouting, but I am much easier to repair." he offered - but too late. The Forged contented himself with keeping line of sight and aiming his massive crossbow.

He turned to the wolf. "So... What are you doing here?"

Vi noticed something around the pony-wolf's neck - it looked like the two keys they were missing.

Quote:
She then saw Vi closely, “But you are alive again. How can that be? We have eaten your flesh before and you seemed very dead.”

Vi froze, and her skin shivered with gooseflesh. It took her a long moment to understand what the wolf was saying. "This person, the one who looked like me...you ate her? Because we just saw her, and she was whole. Uneaten."

Her skin went even colder, and she allowed the Face she'd been wearing to melt away, revealing her true form. Softly, she said, "Are you saying that the dead bodies reform? Do they come back, so you can eat them again?" Of all the strange and horrible things that happened in the Mournland, this was possibly the worst.
