Stopped from completely obliterating the evil thing by monkey-leader, Faliana starts sobbing a little, especially after he whispers in her ear. After a minute or so she clears alway the tears and takes up her longspear. Spitting again to get the taste out of her mouth, she says, "Let's go!"

Dale's body finally snaps out of its rigidness, but his eyes were able to see what happened. He heads over to the pair of dead vargs and quickly pulls out his notebook to take a few notes as he looks at the creatures. As he does he calls over the others before they run off "These are vargouilles. Very nasty. If you see more kill very fast, they do bad bad things." He then takes a quick look at Monty and Faliana "We better find Nigel quickly ok? Get outside again and enjoy the sun and fresh air!"

Journal Entry #241: Encountered a pair of vargouilles, two party members possibly infected. Both are already 'devolved' somewhat from this mist. Interesting to see what happens, hopefully they can be saved. Vargouille samples collected for later analysis.

He snaps his book shut and stows it away in his pack and draws out his crossbow before moving on towards the storage closet looking for Nigel. This would be a far more interesting experiment if it didn't involve Pathfinders! He chuckles to himself.

After a brief exchange, the primal Pathfinders descend onto the door to the Storage area, almost breaking it down instead of opening it normally.

Dale and Tad will notice changes in them that they are not noticing in themselves... and now the feel has gone more from 'search' to 'hunt' ... and they can only hope the four of them will be able to keep themselves and their increasingly aggressive instincts in check if you do find Nigel.

Unfortunately, or perhaps luckily, Artifact Storage proves to not contain anyone. It is a simple, unadorned stone space, piled floor to ceiling with boxes and crates. There is only room for a few narrow corridors between the towers of dusty, mothballed exhibits that are stored here.

Although there is no sign of Nigel, or anyone else, you do notice a few of the exhibits near the door have been knocked over as if there was a struggle here not too long ago.

The sharpened primitive instincts of the mist-tainted pathfinders also pick up sounds coming through the wall to the east, and all of them are instantly on the alert. Dale and Tad will also be able to pick up the sounds after a moment, that of someone cackling madly next door, in the rest area.

Before they can comment, the other four pile out of the room, heading towards the lavatory, on the hunt once more!

That door too is almost wrenched off it's hinges, and you find yourselves looking into the public restrooms for the use of the museum's visiting clientele. There are several stalls along the east wall and a huge cesspool below to collect offal. All of the stall doors have been torn off and the walls are bent and battered. It also looks like someone has tried to tear a hole in the floor towards the cesspool beneath.

The stench of sewage battles the cold damp feel of the mist that wafts lazily through the area. Through the haze you can see smears of blood across the floor, walls, and ceiling... as well as across what remains of the doors of the stalls. Mad laughter echoes through the cramped stone chamber.

The source of the laughter is immediately obvious, as another tainted human squats across the room, by one of the stalls. You're not sure who he was before degenerating, but he is wearing simple workman's attire, all of it torn and covered in blood, dirt, and filth. His hands too are covered in the same, and you're pretty sure this is the source of all the damage. All of his fingernails are ripped out from the effort and he now just beats them over and over on the floor.

He stops and looks up as the door bursts open, and his lips instantly peel back revealing his teeth. He stops cackling to emit a howl of challenge, not caring at all that he is outnumbered six to one.

Before they know what they're doing, all four affected Pathfinders, answer in kind, causing the man to prepare to launch himself across the room to attack!

The scent of filth in the air is no match for the iron-sharp blood aroma that slips tantalizingly underneath. Brady wastes no time upon sighting the feral man in the corner, nearly scrambling over Faliana and Monty as he pushes them aside to get into the room.

His mind a haze, it's simple luck that Dale was able to act quicker; Brady rushes into the smoky fumes left after the explosion of the alchemist's bomb with no regard for the flame that's still just dissipating. Not slowing, he simply throws his whole body at the miserable man.

At first the look of filth around the place is unappealing, but she then shortly notices that there's blood around the room and on the walls. As a red haze decends upon her vision, Faliana tries to scream again, but using her voice so badly earlier she only gets a weak sounds out as it convulsively constrict against the pain. She still rushes in, but due to the weight of her armor, she can't get too far but she does get close enough to try stick it with her longspear.

Tad prays for the Lady to bless Monty's attacks. +2 to attacks until Tad's next turn.

Aye, unfortunately, Dru will not be able to get all the way there with a 20' movement... Double moved you in to get to the fellow...

Tad says another quick prayer, to bless the attacks of Monty, not realizing the level of carnage about to descend into the room beyond.

Dru starts moving in, intent of smashing the newest prey to present itself and dare to challenge her! Unfortunately, the increasingly unnatural-feeling confines of her metalic armor slow her movements, and she can't quite close as quickly as she wanted. Dale takes advantage of her slower approach to quickly duck into the room after her. He uses the rare opportunity of a clear shot to throw one of his alchemical bombs at what was probably once one of the museum's unfortunate custodians. His aim proves to be accurate, the vial crashing into the man and releasing a wave of chemical flame in the far corner of the room. Even the man's mist-tainted rage is not enough to completely block out the pain of the flames as they envelop him. You hear him scream again... in pain this time.

Not even waiting for all the flames to clear, Brady rushes in after Dale, ignoring both flames and caution in favor of a quickly rising bloodlust! As the man burns, Brady charges right into him, any unarmed technique thrown completely out the window, as he instead uses his whole body as a weapon, slamming the poor fellow against the back wall with a loud cracking thud!

Not to be left out, her pent up rage and frustration fueled to new heights by the sight and smell of blood in the room, Faliana lopes in after them. She tries to scream in anger and challenge, but only a painful raspy moan escapes her lips. Still, that does not stop her from thrusting her spear past Brady and impaling the newest challenger against the far wall.

With that final thrust, the man's screaming ceases, as he slumps over unmoving. As before, you see small wisps of silver mist flowing out of him, descending from where Faliana's spear impaled him on the wall, to merge with the fog hugging the floor.

Dale:
Quite definitely one of the poisonous variety! It also looks like it ate recently, as there is a rather large bulge about half way down its length.

Its presence revealed, the remaining Pathfinders descend on it with a vengeance, and tear it apart in a rather uncomfortable display of violence. It does not get the opportunity to attack a second time.

No need, Monty already ripped it apart!

You will quickly realize that the snake appears to have swallowed two human hands recently. One left, one right... likely from the same person.

The hands, much like the head over on the floor, was not severed cleanly, but instead looks like it was wrenched off with a great deal of trouble and force.

When Dale calls out that the group are all friends, Brady pauses to consider. Friends. All pack. Pack friends. Some bigger connection, a reason for the friendship, looms behind his thoughts, but he can't bring it into focus. Regardless, Dale's reminder does land home a bit. Brady approaches Dale with a huge grin--a grin that borders on the terrifying, in fact--and grips the man by the shoulders.

"Pack friends! All pack!" he speaks aloud, shaking Dale with more strength than he knows. "All pack; pack friends!" He repeats, beginning a sing-song repetition that is clearly amusing him. He smacks Dale hard on one shoulder before loping off after Monty, singing his new song.

Despite Dale's attempts to slow things down a little, his mist-tainted allies are in no mood to listen. They are in hunting mode!

Monty howls for them to follow, then lopes off through the gallery, back to the main hallway, heading towards the final exhibit hall. With answering howls of their own, all three of the others follow suit.

Tad can only throw Dale a concerned glance, before the small grippli hurries to keep pace, and Dale is forced to chase after them, as he fumbles at his belt for some of the alchemical vials stored there.

Dale:

Dale quickly pulls a larger vial and drinks it down as he hurries after the others. Dex Mutagen only for now then.

"Slow down you blasted primates!" He screams as he rubs his now bruised shoulder. Damn they're getting stronger as well. This mist intrigues me!

noted!

As you rush down the hallway towards the Northern Exhibit Hall, you notice that all along the hallway leading up to it, vines and and forest dioramas have been set up and painted on the walls, making it actually seem like you are moving into a more primitive and primal time... somehow that very decor mimicking the physical and mental changes affecting the Pathfinders themselves. The fact that most of it is fake and for show seems immaterial, for some of you, it feels like going home!

You start to hear the sounds of primates ... many many primates ... all screeching and howling, from the room up ahead. For four of you, rather then taking that as a warning, or a reason for caution, something in the back of your minds sees it as as yet another challenge... a challenge that must be answered!

They hit the hallway at a fast lope, and only the sturdiness of the Grand Hall's doors slow them down as they are bashed aside. It is all Tad can do to keep up, Dale falling slightly behind, as he tries to at least show up with some degree of preparation.

You find yourselves looking into a large room, almost fifty feet on a side, and just as high, with a large domed ceiling at the top. Mock vines hang from the ceiling and drape along the walls, and a number of grass huts are strewn about the open area, most of them recently ripped apart, leaving dried straw and grasses strewn all over the floor.

Any other displays here have also been destroyed, leaving only the rooms centerpiece undisturbed. In the middle of the chamber is a tall stone ziggurat, that rises up out of the mist. A monument nearly twenty feet tall. Though most of you don't appreciate the miniature replica for what it is, or recognize its Mwangi design. At the top of the ziggurat, a rail-thin elven man is strapped to an altar, his shirt ripped away, and strange sigils and monkey-paw shaped blots decorating his bare chest.

There are also a small hoard of monkeys, apes, baboons and other primates cavorting around the room in a mad chaotic milieu.

They all turn towards the doorway, as it crashes open, and howl and screech back in angry defiance, smashing their fists or random museum pieces against the floor. The display of primate unity only lasts a moment however, as it it suddenly drowned out by a loud primal ROAR, and a large angry gorilla launches itself over from the far side of the ziggurat to land on the bottom steps. It pounds it's fists so hard on floor that the stones crack and you feel the vibrations through the soles of your shoes.

All of the other primates in the room scatter into the mists, though they continue to howl and beat the floor and anything else nearby. You see some of them climbing up the vines on the walls to perch on higher beams, hang from fake trees, or spread out along the outskirts of the room... all of them watching, as if spectators in what is about to occur... though with a clear favorite. (And its not you!)

The gorilla tips over with a furious roar of anger, echoed all around the room by the small hoard of monkeys and apes, and you feel the vibrations as its massive bulk hits the floor.

It doesn't stay down long though, as it starts to get back up intent on smashing the one that would dare knock it over!

As it does so, however, suddenly the dried grasses scattered across the floor from the ruined displays, and the display vines hanging on the walls in the hallway and near the door, start to move, reaching out and trying to wrap themselves around all of the Pathfinders. The effect extends all the way down the hallway, where the vines grasp at Dale and those still in the hall, almost up to the ziggurat where bits of dried grass try to grasp at Dale and Brady, almost as if trying to protect the gorilla! Some of the primates in the southwest and southeast corners of the room screech wildly, and scramble away up the walls, as the vines in those corners seem to reach for them as well.

Need a DC 12 Reflex save from everyone but Monty and Brady, or become entangled! (Technically, it affects Brady and Monty too, but I rolled their saves for them, as it made a diff on what I was doing ... they both passed)

The plants trying to grab you are brittle, in pots, or mostly dead, they will not be able to hold you fast. You can still move, at half speed, as per the above condition, if you fail.

Monty and Brady barely even notice, kicking the brittle grass aside like it was barely there, as both of them gang up on the gorilla, slamming their fists into it as it gets up. Brady's blows deflects off the beast's muscular back, causing no damage, but Monty manages to anger it even more by landing a solid blow across its head. As it gets to its feet, it turns on the smaller primate and starts wailing on him with all it's strength, sending the vanaran reeling. (6 damage to Monty!)

Faliana gleefully bounds out of the other rooms and follows her leader out into the hallway and to the doors of the other room. Enchanted by the sense of home, she comments, in a raspy voice "Feel safe, Anavi there" before they slam the doors open. Still distracted by the feelings, she doesn't react the fastest, failing to even notice the threat until after two of her pack mates move out. As the grass starts growing she finally starts moving, but moves too slow and gets caught by them.

Sludging through the brittle plants, Faliana approaches gorilla and brings the longspear in her hands to bear.

Drusilla, Faliana, and Dale, all find their movements hampered by the remains of the moving plantlife. Dale seems fascinated by the entire process, but the woman snarl in frustration as the dried vegetagion holds them back! Still, Faliana manages to get herself within striking distance of the giant gorilla while Drusilla only moves part of the distance, instead looking around with a bit of care as she sees something flash out of the corner of her eye.

Dru, that was just a single move... just making sure that was the intent

Drusilla:
Everyone seems entirely focused on the gorilla, but you notice, only for a moment, something else moving around out there, dipping in to and out of sight behind the various apes and monkeys gathered along the western side of the room. It is very small, but your primitive hunter instincts are on high alert, and you manage to spot it!
It appears to be a tiny little wooden statue, about the size of your hand. You only noticed it due to some small magical emanations that flashed off of it briefly... indicating it might have been responsible for the vines and grasses that grab at your legs even now!

Brady continues his assault on the gorilla, pummeling the creature with every bit of strength that he can muster. The sounds of the other primates in the galleries only inspires him to fight harder, triggering something deep in his primate brain that awakens memories of similar battles of domination that reach far back into his own evolutionary past.

Tad, the penalty for firing into melee is typically -4... do you have an ability that lessons that?
You also didn't roll to see if you got entangled! Which is kind of important, as it will reduce your ranged attack rolls by 4, and require a concentration check to use the ability in the first place.

Tad moves forward, the vines on the walls grasping and tangling, impeding his movement, just like everyone else who started in the hallway. Undaunted, the grippli manages to gets close enough to call up the holy flame of his deity in his palm, and lob it from the doorway towards the chaotic melee around the ziggurat! But one of the dried vines snags at his elbow at the last moment, causing the flame to fly just wide!

Brady sidles sideways, out of the grasping grasses, some part of his brain still pondering the basic concepts of strategy, but he has no luck landing a solid blow through the gorillas thick muscles. In contrast, Monty is not thinking strategic positioning at all, as he continues to throw fists and feet at his large adversary with wild abandon, shrieking at it in his native language the entire time (though you're not sure how understandable it would be even if you knew vanaran... he seems almost like a smaller version of the gorilla itself at this point). He manages to land one blow that causes the giant ape to shake its head slightly, and roar back in anger.

It appears to be having issues keeping focus... though that does not stop it's assault on the upstart monkey with the stick! In fact, the attack seem to come even more furious then before. It rains more massive blows down on Monty. He barely manages to dodge one of them, and has no chance avoiding the second backhand that thumps him across the chest with a crack audible from across the room. Monty goes flying back and collapses into the mist. (Crit! 11 damage to Monty) As his form skids across the floor and comes to a halt, you see silvery mist flow out of his nose and mouth, even as the nearby grasses start to wind around his limbs without resistance.

The gorilla roars in triumph as the first of it's challengers fall, and the monkey gallery hoots and howls in support of their champion!

Almost at the same time, Brady feels a dark malaise descend on him, and something about the skin on his arms starts to change.

As Monty goes down, Dale struggles forward through the grasping vines, and tries to intimidate the much larger gorilla with his biting words... but very large apes prove remarkably difficult to sway with insults, and this particular ape seems more concerned with the fight its currently in, then what the hairless ape is saying in the doorway.

The penalty for size made the difference =)

Tad, having trouble moving, tries to free himself with a quick blessing, but he can't quite finish the gestures properly with his arm entangled! He doesn't let that dissuade him, however, as he immediately casts a second spell, this time managing to finish it despite the plants. A warm glow starts to form, then suddenly a long pink tongue darts out of his mouth, reaching almost ten feet across the open hall, to strike Monty where he lay prone on the floor. Where it touches, the glow seems to flow from Tad to the injured vanaran, as some of the worst of Monty's wounds start to mend, the healing energies spreads outwards from the point of contact.

Faliana takes a more direct path to protecting the downed monk, thrusting her spear, with all her might, at the gorilla. The words in her head come out as little more then a hoarse rasp, but the meaning is clear regardless. The giant ape is not prepared for the attack at all, and her spear pierces it's rib cage and a few vital organs behind it.

With a gurgling attempt at a defiant roar, it tries to turn on its new foe... but it doesn't manage the maneuver, and instead crumpling to the floor with a sigh. One massive hand grasps at the wound on its side, and a large pool of blood starts to form beneath it. The mighty Da'Tunga is able to fight no more. The nearby apes and monkeys go wild, screeching and hollering even louder then before, if anything starting to get even more aggressive then they were... though none of them seems willing to do more then make noise and aggressive gestures for now.

Drusilla, Faliana, and Brady:
Somewhere, in the back of your brain, some unseen urge keeps trying to reach the surface... its been there all along, but now it calls with even greater urgency.... call it a primal version of 'kill them all' ... you suspect the other monkeys and apes in the room are feeling the same urges... and its not differentiating between pack and non pack!

Whatever evil spirits are driving this madness, they seem to be pressing even harder to make you all lose control completely! You're not sure if you can keep the urges at bay much longer!

Drusilla, seeing the gorilla fall, instead plods towards a place along the far west wall, finally escaping the grasping plants half way there. She seems to be pointing towards something and screaming about statues or the like. The rest of you only see the monkeys, who scream at the spear-maiden as she advances on them, and scatter, some climbing up the nearby vines, others loping across the floor to join with the others on the north side of the gallery.

Dru, you will still be entangled for the first few squares, so it will be a double move to where you are now... but you're right there beside it now.

Monty!:
Your head is a mess, you vaguely remember a massive blow to your chest, and pain, and then darkness... but not silence... you were accosted by the sounds of thousands of tormented primates screaming madly in your head. But then there was a strange comforting warmth, if only for a moment, and the sounds changed. You could still hear monkeys screaming, but not nearly as many of them, nor with such mania... and then you realize you're hearing them with your ears, not in your head. It's then you realize you can open your eyes too.

Your chest hurts like hell, and you suspect you might have a cracked rib... and the pain seems to push right through your chest into your lungs and up into your throat... and for some reason, you can't move.

The first thing you realize is you're head seems to have cleared... the clearest it's been since you entered the museum. You vaguely remember what you did and how you were acting up until now, but all those primal urges and bestial instincts seem to have gone.

Other then a huge headache, you seem to be yourself again. Though you're covered in dried bits of straw and hay, all of it trying to hold you fast.

Mist-Tainted template is gone! You are yourself again... for now... though now entangled!

Everyone but Dru, Perception DC 15:
Now, with Dru pointing out where it is, and the monkeys that were over there cleared out, you can sort of make out something tiny in the mist there. It looks like a small wooden carving, about the size of a clenched fist... though it doesn't seem like anything to get worked up over... does it?

Monty, its a move action to break out of the entangle, a move action to stand up, a move action to retrieve your weapon... etc... =)
Basic gist being, you can not quite move over to the idol yet! Though I'll let you 5' step out of the entangling area.

The perception check is to notice it from far away... once you get up beside it, you will see it without issue.

Hurting all over, Monty wrenches on the dried and brittle grasses trying to hold him fast and easily breaks free as he slowly gets to his feet. He seems suddenly clear, the feral nature that had started to take over gone, as he points towards Dru and the little wood idol, telling the others to destroy it.

Brady manages to shake off the malaise that was trying to overcome him, but not the rage and destructive thoughts racing through is mist-tainted brain. He really wants to smash something... and the back of Dru's head looks inviting... as he sidles over beside her... he then sees the idol the others are talking about, and even though he's not sure why, destroying it feels good too! He tries to pound it into the galleries stone floor.

At this point, I'm going to assume everyone can see what all the fuss is about... so no need for perception checks.

The idol is just that, a small wooden icon about the size of a clenched fist... carved with a primitive depiction of an angry humanoid face. It has no legs, or other defining features. Definitely not a statue. Just a simple roundish piece of wood.

Unfortunately, as Brady goes to smash it, it kind of tips over at the last second, and his blow misses... causing the little idol to skip and roll across the stone floor to the left... even managing to end up upright at the end of it. Totally Brady's fault... it certainly didn't just move there on its own.

I need a Willpower save (DC 13) from Drusilla

Drusilla:
You're sure you see the little idol's features move, just slightly, and you definitely see some more of those little magical motes... worse, your morning star... your favorite weapon... starts to shake in your hand!

If you fail: the shaft of your weapon suddenly starts to bend and warp, almost forming a full arc in your hand.

The weapon, though not destroyed, no longer functions the way it's supposed to... you will take a -4 to use it from here on out (basically it becomes an improvised weapon) as per warp wood

If you make the save: You're sure that beating the weapon on something will make it act normal again! Maybe that wooden thing!

Dale:
Now that you can see it, it certainly looks like one of those idols you'd recalled earlier... though its still a ways off for a proper look.
