Oh, I thought the repellant was only good for a week or so, so she would need two. She would still buy two if she could, she's not enjoying the bugs, but it sounds like she shouldn't.


The scenario just says one pot is enough 'for the entire journey'.

EM±GM, I'm in a GM mentor program right now, and we're discussing, amongst other things, how to establish trust between the GM and players. I think your post, using OOC text to show your thought process on how you applied the rules for Monty's leaping grapple, is an excellent example of one way to help build that trust transparently. Do you mind if I link it to the group as an example?

edit: Thinking on it, I think this is the second time I had to wing it like that, the other when you broke the tank in the Sanguine Pit in Bloodcove while fighting the summoner lady. Though I think I explained where I went on that one too.

Monty has the quarterstaff, Brady the club.
I assume anyone with a bow (just Dru) has some arrows. And anyone with a crossbow (Dale and Fal) have some bolts =) (barring someone using a captured xbow, I suppose)

And, levitate is on the Shaman spell list, so I suppose Fola could use it in a pinch... though that hasn't come up yet so she wouldn't have mentioned it.

Wait, I sometimes forget Faliana is a spell caster, the medium spell list includes both silent image and levitate, so she can cast, if someone helps her decipher them first. This may not work as she doesn't have read magic as a spell (it's something her archmage spirit has but not her...) or spellcraft as a skill.

On the crossbolts Fali would likely take three and give the rest to Dale, she has the Longspear and that is more than enough.


In order to learn a spell on a scroll... you need to make the appropriate spellcraft check (DC 20 + spell level), use read magic (automatic), get the person who created the magical writing to be on hand to help guide you through it (also automatic), or use UMD to try to decipher it (DC 25 + spell level).

You could 'theoretically' manage the last one... though you'd have to roll pretty well to reach the DC =)

We should probably make work of identifying the cloak and wand, if we have the ability. Could Fola help?

Brady should carry at least one of the potions, anybody object to him carrying the CMW? He'll also take a light crossbow and some bolts; when opponents fly, Brady is seriously limited, and that will help.


Fola can not.

The only one with the ability to even try to ID things outside of potions and scrolls, is Tad.

Anyway, I'm ready to move on, once you guys sort out who got what, and who's casting what. =)

If there's any indecision about the potions, Brady will carry the following:

cure moderate wounds
cure light wounds
hide from animals

Huh... and Tad determines them to be a wand of entangle and a +1 cloak of resistance! =)

Also, let me know what spells you are casting before going in (versus waiting to cast once you get in) ... as we'll need to track durations, et al.

Dale will happily raise his hand for the cloak of resistance, for obvious reasons. Tad should maybe put that potion of invis in his pocket just in case we need a sneaky healer running around keeping people alive. And I'll grab that MW light mace for some bludgeoning power...

As far as buffs before heading in it was just those antitoxin and plague. I've still got endure elements of course rolling and I've been chaining ant hauls to carry all this camping gear, if its 4pm I'm going to assume I'm working on the second dose now?

I'll keep my cognatogen at the ready for now just in case this is a long dungeon delve.

Tad grabs the potion of invisibility, as Dale suggested. He uses his 2 castings of protection from evil just before we enter, and goes in with his dagger in one hand and his healing wand in the other.

One protection from evil is for himself; I believe Brady claimed the other.

This is a heads-up that I am starting a new job on Monday. Until I have a handle on the culture and internet policies there, I won't be doing any posting from work; this will likely result in a slightly slower posting rate from me. Well, you guys are all out of tier... so I didn't want to wipe you out with two flying creatures you couldn't get to... but have to follow the given tactics best I can. Thankfully Fal got him lit up, so I don't get to sneak attack you too =)

I'd worked out in my head how they'd legitimately end up within reach... the demon in the 2nd round, the werebat in the 3rd...

Monty headed off the first (his fault!), Faliana just torpedoed the second (not her fault). =)

Now I have to re-ponder!

Rereading the guide, the rules cover what to do if you don't use it... not what to do if you use 'part' of it (doesn't mention wands at all!)

And realized that you guys are running almost twice the posts as some of those (admittedly the sample size was only 4)... and we're not done yet!

Faliana doesn't have a profession yet... I hear there is a way to make Diplomacy use able for this, but I haven't figured that out yet.

It also really helps when the GM gives us amazing, meaty posts to reply to! But the group is also chatty, we did over fifty posts in a three day period.


Technically, you do have a rank in Dance... which can be used for day jobs...
Though I suppose to an Ashava worshipper, the dancing is more a private, than a professional, thing...

Diplomacy (or Intimidate, or Bluff) can be used for a day job, if you get the Caravan property vanity, which would require you own the Pathfinder Society Field Guide

Off the top of my head, the skills (other then the usual Craft/Perform/Profession) ones, that can be used for day job checks with the right vanity boon are:

Bluff
Diplomacy
Intimidate
Appraise
Sleight of Hand
Heal
Knowledge (local)
Handle Animal
Survival

There might be others, but those are the ones that come immediately to mind. (they are not all from the same source)

Dale plans to copy the scroll of levitate into his formula book before the 'end' of the adventure, whenever that technically is. Just wanted to give you the heads up for putting it on the chronicle. (40g)

Looking through the other found items I don't think there are any more scrolls of potions I can learn. I was sad to see hide from animals not on my spell list :( Very solid spell for 1st level.

Please note the two boons... the first is from the ceremony... the second is for not killing Kaghaze and busting up the altar. Both are cool.

There was a typo on the cost of the yellowheart weapons in the higher tier, so put a correction in on that.

Also included the description of the yellowheart wood special material, as this is the only place you will find it described.

It is a bit too specific to be super useful (from a werebat perspective) but it is harder then darkwood, so if you just want a tougher wood item, its works. Also note, you can not make any item you want out of it, as it does not open up the material in general, just allows you to purchase one of the specific weapons mentioned in that material.

Ya its certainly not a 'super powerful' special material, but hey its a neat flavor thing. The boons are pretty nice though!

I wonder who had that bull strength potion? I totally would have learned that sucker too! Probably Kaghaze, I assume that greenwood bow was his too.


The NPC aspis agents drank them all =) So you never had any to use.

The bow was Kaghaze's yes. Even had leaves on it!

Tad does a little happy dance. Even though he doesn't have the fame to enchant it, he now has a bonded holy symbol that lets him once a day cast any spell from the cleric list without having to prepare it.

GM, faction card question. Did we defeat either an evil spellcaster whose patron is an evil deity or an outsider with the evil subtype (both require CR of at least 2 to check off)?


Aye, the little bat-winged demon was CR 3, so he qualifies.
(Though the four-player adjustment removed his DR, or he would have been a lot more trouble!)

Okay, final attempt at Faction Journal Goals:

Does yellowheart wood qualify for: "Gain access to a unique or variant item during the course of an adventure whose rules are printed on your Chronicle sheet."

If not, Brady would like to attempt to: "Create a new trade route, either by mapping a legitimate path or opening doors to a smuggling enterprise. Doing so requires a successful Intimidate, Knowledge (geography), or Survival check with a DC equal to 15 + your character level."

Survival DC 17: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Note: I would have failed that either way, but Intimidate felt wrong; that basically would have meant that Brady tried to bully the Ekujae into a trade route. With Survival, he just failed to draw a good map. :)


Probably best you failed that, it seems like the sort of thing more likely to piss them off =)

I don't think the yellowheart counts... I had to print the info on there myself for reference, it doesn't show on the chronicle by default.
