Nella shrieks with pain as she's blasted by a wave of frost and ice, though thanks to the dragon's battle shriek she had just enough warning to duck and avoid the worst of it. Having Jones and Masym standing in front of her certainly helped as well!

"A dragon, it's a dragon! A little one, but still a dragon!" she cries. Taking heed of Phoebe's song, she decides to take inspiration from Sarenrae for a change of pace and calls upon a blessing of flame. Reaching out, she touches...

1=Masym, 2=Tchak 1d2 ⇒ 2

...Tchak's katana, causing it become wreathed in flames. She'd seen what he'd done to the goblin named Glorfan and hoped that the tengu could pull it off again now. She then falls back, to allow the others to move ahead into the room.
__________

Nella will hit Tchak's weapon with Sun Metal and then move back into the room behind them. Also I agree with the GM; whether the enemies seem to be peons or not, it's always a good idea to be doing something in combat even if it's just hitting someone with Guidance or using Aid Another to give someone a hit or AC boost :)

That fact that Jones, the ranged guy, is stuck in the front with only 12 hps should be worrisome too =)

Not sure if Wei Tchak is still at his conventions... it is a
holiday! Will bot him for this round, to move things along! (basically, just going to cast shield and move in while there's room to do so!)

Jones in the front is hit by the full force of the dragons icy breath weapon, while both Masym and Nella manage to dodge the worst of it, if barely.

Phoebee starts up an inspiring ditty, with some helpful advice included.

Jones' clothing and skin go almost numb from the cold and abrasive shards of ice, but he still manages to bring his bow up and fire an arrow with deadly accuracy. The shaft sinks deeply between two of the dragon's scales as it descends, causing it to scream again in pain and rage!

Masym follows suit with his spear, but back in the hallway it is a tough shot at the airborne creature, and it catches part of the doorframe. The spear instead skitters across the icy floor to come to rest in the far corner.

Nella can not recall anything of dragons in the heat (cold?) of the moment, but takes Phoebee's words to heart as she says a small prayer over Wei Tchak's weapon as she backs out of the hallway. The katana is suddenly sheathed in bright orange flame. The tengu in turn, says a spell of his own to give himself some more defense, then moves up to where his sword and spells can be more use!

Casting Shield and then moving in. I suppose he'll probably use a swift action to grant his weapon a +1 enhancement bonus too!

He also knows a bit about dragons, and fills folks in on the rest. (you can all view the Dragons 101 spoiler a few posts up =))

Malusha hesitates, unsure what to do to help.

GM Screen:

Bite vs Jones: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18, 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

The dragon descends with fury, its landing graceful, despite the slippery floor. In fact, it appears to have no trouble on it at all! All of it's rage appears focused on Jones however, as the arrow wound has drawn it's ire! It rears up, wings unfurled and claws bared and suddenly its long neck snakes out and teeth gnash at the man with the bow. Jones only barely manages to avoid them, as the bite bounces off his chestplate instead of flesh, leaving a long gash in the metal but not the man.

Dragon now on the ground. Remember, all difficult terrain in the room, so no 5' steps. (unless you're a white dragon)

It also has reach with its bite.

OK, will put Nella on autopilot this round!

Going on the defensive, Jones fires another arrow, just barely avoiding the dragons jaws once more. Again, his aim is true, further increasing the dragons ire. He then skirts off to the side, trying to get out of its reach, though the icy floor makes it hard to get far.

Malusha moves forward to cast a defensive spell on Masym, who then advances into the room, skating across the ice as he tries to avoid any incoming attacks from the dragon. None come however, and he ends up beside it swinging his hammer in a mighty blow that merely bounces of the creatures thick scales.

Phoebee moves up into the recently vacated space, continuing her song and adding some visual cues to augment the lyrics, as she lofts an alchemist's fire into the room. The vial crashes against the creature's flank, and fire spreads out across it's hindquarters causing another screech of pain and rage.

Wei Tchak takes advantage of all the distractions to get into a flanking position with Masym, but he too is unable to penetrate its tough hide with his flaming blade.

Nella steps up again, but can not see much from in the back. She can see enough though, as she summons another ghostly glaive to attack the dragon!

Going to cast spiritual weapon, as most everything else either does nothing or requires touch!

The creature responds with furious rage! As the fire from Phoebee's alchemical weapon burns out on its flank, it shifts to the side and once more snaps it's sharp teeth at Jones. And, once more, only his armor manages to keep him from serious injury.

But it is not done there, as it begins to reign blows down on the much closer Masym, claws and wings flailing. Masym dodges with desperation, and only one of the wings manages to clip him just under the chin. But even that is enough to rattle his head and blur his vision for a moment. (9 damage to Masym)

The dragon would be in *much* better shape, if Jones had had to fire through cover =) Most of his shots would have missed!

As Jones goes down and the dragon roars in triumph, the rest of the Pathfinders go on the offensive in defense of their comrade.

Phoebee moves into the room, trying to dodge any incoming attacks, but having a hard time just keeping her footing on the ice. Still, she manages to get her feet planted and takes a swing with her glaive, scoring a long slash across the dragons right flank.

Masym brings his hammer around in an upward arc, connecting with the dragon's head as it whips around. There is a satisfying thud, but still the creature fights on!

Then the tengu steps in, carefully moving across the ice to swing his flaming blade.

The Sun Metal spell only adds 1d4 fire damage (well, +50% due to its vulnerability... so I guess I can let that stand at 1d6 for now!)

With a string of curses in multiple languages, he thrusts the fiery katana between two scales just below the beast's shoulder, the blade sinking deep.

The dragon lets out one last cry, part anguish, part pain, part rage, and collapses to the icy floor, its fury suddenly drained by the onset of death!

Tchak takes his katana and delivers a death blow to the down dragon to assure it won't get up again (ie coup de grace), and then cuts out the dragon's heart, taking a bite from it... If questioned he will explain. "Tales in the east say he who eats of a dragon's heart, will ever after have the heart of a dragon within him... if the tales are true, I will be formidable indeed in my lifetime. If the tales are not true, no harm, no foul."

Seeing that Jones is being well cared for, he then removes a claw from the beast, and with the claw, cuts out a section of dragon hide to have the skin made into a very nice suit of leather clothing.

Masym returns the bard's hug awkwardly and gently shoos her away. "Thank you for your help Phoebee." He then awaits Malusha's assistance with the healing wand. Once the wand is expended he will drink a potion which will take care of his wounds. That should leave him at -2 HP damage.

With the dragon defeated, you are able to tend to Jones' wounds, though one corner of his breastplate still has a fairly obvious bite indentation on it.

The door on the far side of the room appears to be constructed entirely of cold iron, and is covered in runes.

Knowledge (arcana) DC 15:
The runes seem to be some sort of wards designed to hide or perhaps block the most dangerous of monsters or artifacts.

You will see no way to open the door, not even a keyhole.

Eventually, you retreat back to the previous room, as the cold starts to be an issue. Most of the ulfen's watch you with amazement, a few having witnessed the fight with the dragon.

Rognvald looks surprised to hear about the dragon. "I thought it was just fanciful talk." He muses. "But when Melkorka talked of this weapon, she also mentioned dragons. Here..." He digs around through the reams of papers left behind in Vermund's lab. "This one, it talks about the weapon, but uses the word 'them'."

He scratches his head puzzled. "But here, it clearly mentions a weapon to be wielded."

Eventually shrugs, not sure what to make of it.

Just to be sure you're not missing more, you quickly peruse what documents remain.

You find a series of journals and letters dealing with the founder of the lodge, the man named Caggrigar, and his journey to the Worldwound with an elite team of Shadow Lodge agents in search of something undisclosed. (different scenario!)

You find more references of Melkorka Skur's search for this weapon and her intent to set out for the Keep of the Huskarl King in the Realm of the Mammoth Lords, but there is still no clear indication of what the weapon is.

You also find an unfinished letter from Caggrigar to someone named 'The Spider' in Almas, that talks about the 'great power' contained within the Keep that the Shadow Lodge could 'harness and train' to take down the Grand Lodge in Absalom. Not terms you'd associate with a weapon usually. The end of the letter mentions the failure of 'our illustrious leader' and hints at support should the Spider wish to usurp control of the lodge entirely.

All of these, and more you collect up, and pile in under the stores and supplies for the slave trip, sure that it will all be of interest back in Absalom.

Skagni eventually asks when you want to try to leave the city. Most caravans would leave early in the morning, to get as much travel in during the day. It is approaching noon at the moment, so not optimal, but waiting another day increases the risk of discovery.

Masym looks about him. "I suggest we leave right now. The risk of leaving later than most caravans is lesser than the risk of being discovered by the guards."

"These markings here are powerful runes meant to hide or block powerful creatures or artifacts. I'm curious as to what lies beyond, but perhaps we are just not meant to know... I see no way to open the door at all. Let's get these good folks out of this cold and get these important documents back to the society, shall we? As for travel, I agree with Masym and suggest we go now rather than risk another day in the city. It's not optimal since we will probably be more closely scrutinized since the guards will have little else to do this time of day, but staying here might lead to discovery. If it is necessary, I will pose as a slave just long enough to pass the gates, since I'm not human and couldn't pass for one if I tried." He shrugs.

Malusha inspects the runes for a few moments but then gives up. "Yes, let's try and leave. We should try our plan of posing as slavers."

GM, would I be able to get someone to craft the claw into a dagger and just get a MW dagger saying that it is from the dragon claw?

Oops, almost missed this.

Lucky for you, Wei Tchak's day job just happens to be Craft (weapons) =) So I'm sure he can make you a suitable mw weapon from said dragon claw... explains where his Day Job came in!

Though for true authenticity, it should probably be a masterwork bone dagger ... though those have their own issues.

Could they use the claw as the pommel?

As we prepare to head out Jones approaches Skagni, "How many slavers and how many slaves on that paperwork?"

Rognvald sighs. "Were papers for only four sellers." He says. "Probably those ones down in the pit. Is an awfully small number to shepherd this many slaves. I can only guess they were picking up more outside the city."

"I smudged this one a bit though." He adds, apologetically. "Was my first go at it. Maybe keep it on the bottom and hope they lose interest before they get to it."

He peers at another paper. "Adjusted the total here, for the slaves, to cover the rest. No description of them given, beyond a head count, so that helps."

"Best I could do."
