DystopianGM |
Hello everyone! This is one of my very favorite scenarios! If you are a new or beginning player, please don't hesitate to ask questions in whatever form you are comfortable (post, PM, etc.).
Please check in here with the relevant chronicle information, consisting of:
Player Name (or alias):
Character Name:
PFS#:
Faction:
Day job roll:
And then head on over to the gameplay thread to "dot-and-delete", meaning post something in the gameplay thread and then immediately delete it to add your selected character to the game. Make sure you post with the character you intend to play.
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
Warah
Character Name: Kala, Daughter of Krokum
PFS#: 289224-3
Faction: Grand Lodge
Day job roll: Profession (Trapper): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
GM Hmm |
Glad to see all three of you check in. Hope you have a great game, Dystopian!
Hmm
DystopianGM |
1/day, or 1 per 2 days is OK. One per day and one post over the weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) is the usual pace.
I am still waiting on our barbarian to check in, so that leaves us with 1 open slot. I will random roll from the recruitment list today and get the last person in, which will make 5. I suspect we will begin Monday, or over the weekend if everyone is checked in and ready to go!
Warren Moon |
If game is still available Id love to and be honored to join!
Diharhan
Character Name: Warren Moon
PFS#: 291822-5
Faction: Dark Archive
Day job roll: Profession (Astronomer): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Thanks! I think I'm getting the hang of it, but it's good to know that you're happy to help. :) This community has been really welcoming and helpful, so I'm really glad I joined.

Darius, if you put the line of stats in the CLASSES/LEVELS field of your character's profile, these will show up on each of your posts.
Also, if you want to delete a post, all you do is look at the top right of where your post is (that says when it was posted, FLAG, LIST, etc. Right after you post your dot, there should be an EDIT and a DELETE button. You simply hit DELETE then confirm. This adds your character to the game without it showing up in the thread. Hope that helps!
Also, I took a look at everyone's character sheet, and have some suggestions:
Drawbacks are not allowed in PFS, you are only limited to 2 traits.
Also, Bressa automatically receives improved unarmed strike due to being a brawler, so she can pick up another feat with her human bonus feat.
I can't see your profile. For ease of reading, people usually structure their profiles like this, or something equivalent. PCGen or Herolab helps with this.
Since our last game Korosh had his Confirmation, you need to add a wayfinder to your items section, and I would strongly suggest picking up a wand of cure light wounds (50 charges) with your 2 PP that you received from that adventure.
Most times I see people creating a separate profile (not an organized play profile, but a generic alias) for their animal companions.
An example can be found right here. Chip has a link to his animal companion, Zipper, at the top.

Gameplay post to come shortly.
GM Hmm |
Hey Dystopian, Darius pinged me asking for character formatting help. I see you have the matter well in hand, but maybe this will help too.
GM Hmm here with some handy-dandy tips!
CHARACTER SHEET
You can make a copy of this Template for PFS PBP Characters in google docs, then fill in your own character’s information.
When you are done, you can copy and paste the completed sheet into the “About” section of your profile.
You can find this template and many other things linked in the PBP GM Toolkit linked in both my header and in Flaxseed.
STAT TAGLINE HEADER
As Dystopian notes, you can copy the statline that you just wrote into your classes field, or you can use the version laid out in the template. Anything written into the race, class or gender fields shows up in your tagline.
ADDING OR CHANGING AN AVATAR
1. Go to “My Account” at the top of the page.
2. Click on it.
3. Sign in if it makes you sign in.
4. Scroll down to “Organized Play’
5. Hit the ‘Make Changes” button beneath the “You have two characters.”
6. You should now see a list that includes Kyrie and Darius. By each name, there is an “Edit” button. Click “edit” on either, and you will be able to add or change an avatar.
7. The list of possible avatars is long. You can use the filter buttons to sort by race, gender and even some potential class ideas to narrow it down.
Good luck!
Hmm
Bressa |
Dystopian:
Drawbacks: Oh, sorry. I'll nuke it and Possessed.
Bonus Feat:
I created Bressa with PCGen (v6.06.01) and chose Dual Talent
Dual Talent Type: RacialTraits. HumanRacialTrait. HumanBonusFeat. HumanSkilled Cost: 0 Requirements: either ( at least 1 Human ~ Dual Talent Special Ability, none of ( at least 1 TYPE.Skilled Special Ability, at least 1 TYPE.HumanBonusFeat Special Ability ) )
Description: Some humans are uniquely skilled at maximizing their natural gifts. These humans pick two ability scores and gain a +2 racial bonus in each of those scores. This racial trait replaces the +2 bonus to any one ability score, the bonus feat, and the skilled traits.
Source: Paizo Inc. - Advanced Race Guide, p.72
That is why I seem to be missing a feat. If that is not PFS legal either, then I'll also need to adjust my ability scores and such.
Warren Moon |
@Bressa: Dual Talent is perfectly legal as far as I know. Should be good 2 go. For everyone else in the next thread over (Gameplay) hop on over and feel free to introduce yourselves! Looks like our new GM has posted the setting..sounds like a good one!
Bressa |
@Moon: Cool, thanks.
One more note. I originally had her alignment as Chaotic Good, but I've changed that to Neutral Good. When she level's up, I plan to take a level in Druid with the Growth subdomain. After that, I expect she'll stay straight Brawler.
Warren Moon |
@Bressa: The mechanic of paranoia is banned but the flavor is all what you want your character or envision them to be. Don't apologize, those who want to properly rp get a thousand thumbs up in my humble opinion. I'd be paranoid too being a woman in a male dominated society, a medieval one at that. And one filled with monsters, demons, etc. Being paranoid makes sense lol.
Side note for Warren: I built the arcanist to be more logical and less empathetic than most. If he comes across brash or rude take no offense, just trying to rp the high int/low cha. :)
DystopianGM |
Ah, okay. That makes sense, the dual talent. Yes as Moon said, dual talent is perfectly fine. Especially with martial flexibility raw stats are good to have.
And indeed, I greatly enjoy when players really swing for the fences and play their character's personality out. (My witch hunter slayer is a complete psycho when it comes to encountering arcane magic users.) PBP is the best medium I think for RP.
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
Also, I took a look at everyone's character sheet, and have some suggestions:
Thanks! I'll look into it.
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
So...we don't have a healer in this group, do we? And Kala doesn't have enough gp to buy a healing potion or kit. Anyone else?
Warren Moon |
Currently right now we don't have a healer, although for right now some potions of cure light wounds should be more than adequate. Ive got enough gold for one or two (25gp)? I think is the cost. If so Ill try and pick up one or two for the road.
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
I thought Potions of Cure Light Wounds were 50gp, per the link below. But if you found them at half price somewhere, I'd gladly pick up one! ;)
Go to Potion of Cure Light Wounds.

DystopianGM, do you have any recommendations for us?

Definitely! So basically I go through the same process with every character I make, a sort of undefined checklist so I can cover the bases of whatever is out there.
- I make sure I have a grappling hook and rope (silk rope if you're concerned about weight limit, hemp otherwise). Knotted rope with a grappling hook latched on reduces most climb checks to DC 5. Even a STR 7 wizard could do that!
- Bread, cheese, and a waterskin. This is just basic road food to sustain you if you're out in the wilderness and don't have ranks in Survival to forage for food. The trail rations are very expensive for what they give you. Bread and cheese is cheaper.
- Backpack.
- Spell component pouch if you're a caster, thieves tools if you're a rogue type.
- A way to deal splash damage and other damage types.. Swarms are common in PFS. Get a vial of acid or alchemist's fire.
- Ways to deal different damage types. Such as bludgeoning/piercing/slashing. Ideally you'd have a weapon for each in case you run into something with damage reduction. Even if you're a caster, get a club or dagger so you can trigger attacks of opportunity.
- Healing. If I have enough left, I buy either a scroll of cure light wounds (if I can cast it myself) or a potion.
Korosh should have a wand of cure light wounds from his last adventure (I GM'ed his first PBP game). Kala can use that since it is on her spell list.

Thanks a bunch! So if we haven't used the items yet, will you allow us to adjust our equipment to reflect your suggestions without having to sell things back for half price?
DystopianGM |
Yes, absolutely. In fact, because you can rebuild your character as many times as you want before you hit 2nd level, you never really need to sell anything back that you buy with your starting 150gp. You can just rebuild into more efficiency as your experience increases with the Pathfinder Society games themselves.
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
OK, so now Kala has the Cure Light Wounds spell, which she can cast up to 3 times per day, and her equipment is updated.
Thanks for the great advice, DystopianGM!

I am still simply not comprehending how to format my character. Even looking at the template I am completely lost it is all just gibberish to me. :( anyone who knows how to do it willing to sit on a phone call talking me through it with megatons of patience?
Redelia |
Dystopian GM, I hope you don't mind me dropping in to your discussion thread like this.
I know your players are all new to our Lodge, so I wanted to invite them to participate in our online convention, OutPost, which starts March 5. This game will probably not be done by then, so you would need to use a different character. There is at the bottom of the spreadsheet a game just for new players where the GM is encouraging everyone to use the pregenerated characters that came with the adventure, if you don't want to build another character yet. It's Nefreet's table of Heroes for Highdelve.
Please feel free to contact me if you want to participate and have any questions or need any help.

Taking a leap....
@Scott: When you look at someone's profile, they have their regular stats in the upper left of the page. To the right, they have all kinds of cool, formatted text. And it continues through the rest of the page. BUT, when you go to edit your profile, you see a bunch of form blocks to enter text for the upper left, but nothing on the right. It looks NOTHING like what you see when you look at someone else's profile. That is because all of that cool stuff is actually down in the big 'Description' box at the bottom. They pretty much self-format their entire profile in that single box.... That is one of the first things that threw me when I started. What made it worse was that some of the information they put in that box duplicates what you already put in the regular boxes labeled for stuff like strength, dex, class, etc.

I got a bunch of help from this post
Read the whole thing, but 'Step 3' is what I was mainly talking about. Try pasting his 'Blank Template' into the 'Description' box in your profile and see what happens.

I had missed that we can rebuild our characters until 2nd level. With that in mind, I tweaked mine to better reflect Kala's backstory (mostly higher CON, lower CHA). Just FYI.

Heads up: I'll be out of town all of next week. I think I'll be able to continue posting once a day, but thought you'd like to know in case I can't. DystopianGM, feel free to bot Kala and Stinky between Feb 18 and 24 if it's been more than a day and things need to keep moving.
Warren Moon |
@Scott: Yeah if you need any help making your character let me know! I could probably throw together a character for you based on the info you have in your profile If you need some help bud! Its a lot to take in at first but I promise it gets easier lol

Ah, I think I know what's going on. You're putting your stat block into the CLASSES/LEVELS field. Don't put it there, instead, copy it into the ABOUT DARIUS COOPER field, or the description field, the big box at the bottom with your backstory already written there, copy it below that. It should show all your stats then on your profile.
Then, once your profile looks good, copy the lines below Warren or Kala or Bressa's character name, like this:
Male LN Human Arcanist (Occultist) 1 | HP 9/9 | AC:14 (Touch:13, Flat:11) | CMB -2, CMD 11 | F+2, R+4, W+4 | Init+4 | Perc+5, SM +1 | Speed: 30 | Arcane Reservoir 3/4
And then paste that into your CLASSES/LEVELS field and change the numbers to describe your character. Presto!
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
@Warren Moon: Just out of curiosity, how tall is your character? I'm wondering if anyone in the party is taller than Kala, and I didn't see that stat on Warren Moon's profile page. It may be pertinent to how I role play her. Thanks!
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
@Darius Cooper: Welcome! Someone I know who has more PbP experience than me suggested that I create a word doc to use as a template for the profile page. It really helps with maintaining consistent formatting. That way you won't have to worry about timing out as you edit the profile page and losing all your work (so frustrating). When you're finished you can copy and paste into the profile page. Good luck!
Warren Moon |

@Kala: Warren is about 5'10.
-Also Darius, Kala has a good point, the biggest bane for me making my profile was the page not letting you go back into it if you jump between web pages as your making the profile. Writing down brief notes especially for all the skills you gotta plug in really helps so you have something to look at real quick for reference. And oh yeah SAVE. Often. Lol Good luck!
