I'm avoiding looking too close at most of the party's equipment, both because it's not really in line with Sheridan's character, but also because later she can add discover a hidden tag in important items she has time to inspect. I dunno if it will trigger for Catastrophe, but it's among the list of things she'll try to "improve" through inspection.

"Sure, Ron - I'll see what I can find."

Belym will head out and see if any of the innkeepers around have some Dwarven ale, or failing that, some relatively potable human brew. She'll also head to Meline's shop, and ask if the sage has time to investigate the swirling stone.

Do you want a Supply roll for the beer, or shall we call that fluff associated with a presumed Carouse roll coming up?

Looking for this particular item: Keg of Dwarven Stout; 10 coins, 4 weight; When you open a keg of dwarven stout and let everyone drink freely, take +1 to your Carouse roll. If you drink a whole keg yourself, you are very, very drunk.

Given that Catastrope is made partially out of a bound Asmodean, I'm not positive we want to improve it...

[occ]Do we all roll for the party, or do we all benefit from her roll?[/ooc]

Belym

You aquire the keg fairly painlessly, and go into Melite's shop.

The smell of incence is strong here, and an assortment of oddaments lay here, she takes the orb, and looks it over. A farsight stone, odd items indeed. gaze into it, and you may see anywhere you desire, but beware, for you yourself may draw attention from powers beyond this world she hands it back, smiling.

If you brought the whip as well:
A whip tipped with acheron iron, this is a deadly weapon indeed. where it strikes, it drinks the flesh in, leaving great tears. beware this weapon, it has a habit of sating it's thirst upon it's wielder it has the tags (Reach, Dangerous, messy, +1d4 damage, 1 weight)

Ron

The Mayor nods as you leave, clearly sad to see you go. when you seak to Natria, she says Excellent, we shall leave at first light.

You find Sheridan setting up dozens of fishtanks, and Allison acting as her crier, What do you do?

With some minor adjustment (add a new hole to a strap here, curve a plate there) his armour will fit. and his blade is not magical, just well made

Conwall

Sheridan's roll goes for everyone in the celebration

Everyone

Who is going to the party, who is going with Tom?

So, that Supply roll doesn't stand, don't mark XP then?
Also, we'll go with the assumption that I brought the whip, since I was headed to see the sage anyway.

To Melite, Belym also describes the creatures in her initial vision, and asks if she's heard of them before.

Belym will attend the party, unless Conwall and Ron are both staying as well. Can't send the priest out without any backup, after all.

Ye say Tom is set on Warg hunting? I'll be expected at the celebration. Conwall, can ye see to the farm? I'll bet ol Tom is at the tavern.

Ron and Belym head back to Ron's house to rearrange some gear and stable Roach. They head to the celebration as people begin to gather. Ron approaches Sheridan before things get into full swing. Impressive... I think? What's this one? He points to one of the creatures at random, trying to show real interest.

Let's treat Ron's house as home base. Free room and board and you can keep stuff there.

Can the mayor have given us 60 platinum rather than 600 Braxan coins?

Female Dwarf Channeler 8 (23/28 hp, 1 armor, d4 damage, 2/15 xp) (Str -1, Dex +2, Con +3, Int +2, Wis +1, Cha +0)

As I read it, the mayor took 600 of the 1430 Braxan coins to pay everyone else. Belym spent 360 more on potions, leaving 470 Braxan coin to stash at Ron's.

I go to meet Tom and the militia at the tavern, ready to hunt Wargs.

Tom accepts the drink but is suspicious of the action, Does this normally happen? I can't think drinking for free could be a perk of being on the other side of conflict... When the men cheers he downs the whole cup at once, and loudly slams the empty flagon on the bar. Drink 'em down, mateys! 'Tis the custom of my home!

Tom will ask for another drink, and still try to pay. At the very least let me buy refills for the lads here. You're too generous t' this man.

I'll add a third spell! I forgot so quickly.

Conwall and Tom

Do either of you make any preparations before you leave?

[b]Those attending the party[b]

The party goes late into the night. by the end of it, Sheridan has an open offer of lodging in little allison's house (extended by her mother, much to her sister's horror). Belym has heard that that dwarves have been spotted near Ghostmoore about a month ago, and Natria tells Ron that The Mayor has set a bounty for whoever can fix the issues on the outlying village of Strix.

The bad news is... choose one
You wake up in the morning...

  • In someone else's bed. Who? What happened?
  • In an alley, badly beaten. By who? Why?
  • In a cell. Why?
  • Having done something awful. What?
  • With something stolen from you. What?
  • Outside of town. Where are you now?

Sheridan wakes to the broad side of a blade slapping him in the ribs. "Zoe? No- Gwen? Ed. What's-" An arm slides over Sheridan's chest and he's on his feet in seconds. Allison's mother sits up in the bed, rubbing the sleep from her eyes, and pulling the warm, mucus-damp bedcover over herself.

"Dear, sweet Manannan, what have I done?" The merfolk traveler takes the woman's chin in one hand, and lifts a handful of hair in the other, letting the strands fall through his fingers. "How is yer breathing? Any abdominal pain? Ed- Zoe... whichever- Hold on. Just a moment, please."

Mind a whirl, Sheridan tries to think back to the events of last night. It had been the first time the lone merfolk had ever slept outside of TAM since the two had met. He could remember the night being cold and eerily quiet. He must have gotten up in the middle of the night seeking a warm place to sleep. Further than that, he could only guess. All he knew was that there was a reason there are no half-breeds among merfolk.

Yes

Iron Tom Bonney wrote:

Sure, either purchase it, and remove the cost from the party loot, or take it from the Ravager equipment in Ron's stall (If he is cool with that), and subtract the weight of a shield.

That was the first mistake. It's been so long since the last real Dwarven ale... Oh no. The Glimmerglen man. Shimmerglade? Glimmerglade? Whatever. I've been more or less keeping track of group loot on my gear sheet. I think Belym is also holding onto it. I put it on the first line under my name after GG for group loot. That is just cash, and counts the 100 held by Belym, 40 by Sheridan, and 22 by Conwall. It doesn't count all our gems etc.

When you buy something just post the total amount of gold used and I'll deduct it. I just deducted 15 for the shield.

Since the rest of the group has finished their party and we don't want to split up too too much, should we maybe settle the Wargs with a single dice roll or something?

Sheridan

Claudia wakes up as you fondle her hair, the blanket slips down, and you see claw marks on her shoulder and stomach, and bruises in several other places. Are you okay? She asks, holding her stomach with one arm. What do you do?

Belym

You get up gingerly, sore in about a dozen places. you are behind the mayors house, what do you do?

Iron Tom & Conwall

The two of you finish you rest, and go to the meeting place to find the others already there. Zoe is pacing and ranting to the others I just can't believe it, why does she get the job, who not me, or Owen, both of us are more experienced, and both of us studied with Garin

Sam speaks up So am I, I think you're making too big a deal out of this.

No, I'm not. What did Jericho do to earn the position? why didn't someone more level-headed get the job?

Burke chimes in She was in the Vanguard, maybe Ron thinks she's a good leader.

She was only there because she is stalking the elf

Hmm. Probably should have looked into the various experience/ranks of the militia before anointing someone.

For once, Ron is sober. With the dangers threatening his friends and family, that life will need to be put on hold for some time.

He smiles at the memory of the town's fascination at Sheridan's various curios. A fine distraction.

His smile curdles as he remembers losing track of Sheridan and Belym in the ensuing party. The crowd's thank yous grew old and stale as he recalled the men and women that died for Norwhich the day before. He eventually slipped away, nodding to the militiaman on watch as he left the town walls.

I hope he is still there.

Ron continues into the woods, following the familiar path. Soon he hears the unmistakeable sound of a bow being drawn. Who goes there?

It's me, Scath. It's ol' Ron. Can I join ye?

The two men spend the early morning hours talking about the dangers facing Norwhich.

When Ron awakens, the ranger is long gone.

Ron speaks to the trees. I wish ye'd join us Scath. We will need you. I'll need you.

The old battlemaster gathers his belongings and begins the journey back to Norwhich. I'd best see what Sheridan is up to.

I don't know if this was sufficiently negative, maybe an ambush on the way home would balance things out?

Spending a little time with the guard while final preparations are made by Conwall and the others, I'm not privy t' Ron's inner workings, but if you are concerned about your rank above your duty you are no better than a common thug. You are here in this position t' protect your home and protect those you care about who can't protect themselves. Someone who thinks about themselves first will leave a wake of others they stepped on t' look better - intentionally or not. Tom looks longer at Zoe, What would happen if you decided t' discuss this with Ron instead of belly aching behind everyone's back? Would he make an example of you? Would he dismiss you for stepping forward? No, he's a goddamn adult just like yer suppose t' be! If you want t' talk about your dissatisfaction, I can bring you t' him. Are you empowering? If so, which 7-9 do you choose?

As you tend to Her wounds, a half-hour in perhaps, there is a knock on the door, and you hear a voice, female, but older that Allison. Mum, whens breakfast?. Claudia's eyes go wide, and her breathing accelerates. what do you do?

You look around. several shattered bottles lay around. A smashed broom-handle (or something) lays there. By the look of it, they ganged up on you, a few with improvised weapons. There is also sand scattered about, it would seem you used your power in self defense (They must have been trying to seriously harm you, because your powers could have killed them). here is a good chance that a few of them are with a medic (Perhaps the apothecary, or Lorry's Wife), if you wanted to find them. What do you do?

You asked for me, Lady Commander?

yeah, I had a few questions. First, why me? she says looking down Zoe's older, and Owen was Garin's assistant, Sam is more like dad, and Erik has been leading excursions for years now, what makes me better than them?

Also, when will you and Conwall and the others be back? I think we might need you here again soon. she clearly has more questions, perhaps a hundred, but she holds them back, and lets you speak, what do you do?

I return quietly to the group.

There are several on the backside. I think we should try to take out these in the front as quietly as we can. Kill shots with arrows, if we can.

How many archers do we have with us?

Burk and Sam both carry bows. Do you have one?

I do not, no. I have knives though!

Burk, Sam, mark a targets on the porch and ready your bow. Zoe be ready to rush the wargs on the field with me. Alexa, stay close to Zoe, keep an eye on her. We're only going to have one chance at eliminating these Wargs before they call the Reinforcements on the other side of the house. On my mark...now.

As soon as the arrows fly towards the porch, I rush out into the field, whipping a dagger at the first Warg I see before engaging with the next sword to claw.

volley + bless: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 2) + 4 = 8
Running and throwing are not my strong suit. My dagger lands far from any especially soft spots.
Damage: 1d10 - 1d6 ⇒ (7) - (2) = 5

hack and slash + bless: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 4) + 4 = 12

It's important that we finish this quickly and quietly. Rather than defend myself and prolong the fight, I leave myself open to counter attack by the Warg.

damage: 1d10 + 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + (4) + (6) = 12

You knife flies at the warg, and Sams arrow chooses the same target, you couldn't say whose weapon killed it, and Burke shoots another, who charges him and Tom. You and Zoe Charge the remaining wargs, and each slay your opponent. Zoe however is bitten deep on her shoulder, and You get raked across your stomach by the beasts claws. The two on the porch move to flank you two, what do you do?

As your spell is cast, you hear a loud, low moan from within the house itself, it says Iisac.

Conwall and the others spring into action, engaging the beasts. one of them is rushing toward you. and from inside the house, you see a dark figure watching you with a palpable malevolence. What do you do?

Also, Wargs, or blight wolves, are creature of Zimrran, and horribly diseased. out of curiosity, what happens if you get bitten by a blight-wolf?

I had directed Sam and Burke to shoot at the porch while we charged the field. Is that not what happened?

Also, how much damage do I roll from the Warg?

Also also, was Alexa acting as Zoe's protector as I directed her to or was she of on her own, not being a protector?

Conscious of the presence of the soldiers, Ron picks his words carefully and eyes the assembled men.

The mayor named ye Lady Commander, not I. But the decision is the right one.

He thinks back on the years he spent with Jericho, training her with wooden weapons from her early childhood and regaling her with tales of battles of yore. Ye know more of battle tactics than anyone in Norwhich. Garin was a peacekeeper. We are at war, and the coming days demand a warrior. Ye are that warrior.

May we speak in private, Lady Commander? Ron waits patiently as the other soldiers clear the room.

What did I tell ye, girl? Never let anyone sense weakness or doubt! Ye are the right person to lead Norwhich. Zoe is hotheaded, Owen learned at the feet of Garin, who was nothing but an upjumped, pompous fool. Erik would make a fine choice, true, but Norwhich needs him to continue leading the rangers. His skills would be wasted here in Norwhich.

His voice softens as he looks at the woman that he sees as a daughter. Why do ye think I spent so many days telling ye stories of old battles? Or discussing tactics? I raised ye to lead. Take the reins.

I'll always be back Jericho. I'm yer spear. My team will strike out at these cultists and return. We must be going soon. Is there anything else?

Shoot, this is what I get for multitasking. corrections, in order.[ooc]

[ooc]You and Zoe were fighting 4 wargs, so there are two remaining. and alexa stops the warg from mauling Zoe, but she is knocked down, and badly bruised. also, roll 1d6-2 for the warg damage. sorry about that

Bad doggie!: 1d6 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3

The warg claws me across the chest before going down. I curse the mild bite that makes it through my armor; if I had some Smokesteel plate, this wouldn't have even phased me. I turn my attention to the next warg, letting Catastrophe end this battle as quickly as possible.

hack and slash + bless: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2) + 4 = 9

Again, I'm more focused on fighting quickly than fighting well, and I take the full brunt of this demon's counter attack.

damage: 2d6 + 1d4 ⇒ (5, 6) + (1) = 12

Presuming the Warg claws me again, let me know if I need to change this: 1d6 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4
