This is an odd question, but do any of you both 1) have children between the ages of 5-10, and 2) have an interest in lucid dreaming?

Also, and unrelated. A player in another PbP game that I'm running suggested that the group join a google chat hangout alongside the paizo forum threads. At first I was skeptical that it would be that useful (when we already have a discussion thread), but it has actually turned out to be very useful and has helped to speed up play and quickly resolve any DM-Player misunderstandings. I know that some of you run PbP games, so I thought I would throw it out there as something you could try out in future games.

Not as such (Lucid dreaming is cool, but I'm far too young to have children) but I am dreadfully curious, why do you ask?

that google chat thing sounds interesting though, if you lot are interested.

I've been working on a PbtA game designed to teach kids to lucid dream to overcome nightmares. It is based on my experience solving my boys' night terror issues through lucid dreaming.

Damn, that sounds cool. if you just need test subjects, I have siblings and a cousin in the age range, and some expirience with game design and abnormal psych (Okay, so two semesters of psych last year, and a lifetime surrounded by my friends)

I am absolutely going to take you up on this. Here is the current draft. It has a playtest version of the rules that just lists the player moves and the DM moves. Down below is the full text that I have so far along with some brainstorming. I should probably do the brainstorming in a private document, but I'll get to that later.

My child is 2, but I'll take a look at your rules eventually.

I'm still in the early stages of a PbtA game about civilians surviving in a war-torn area (based on This War of Mine, which is based on the Seige of Sarajevo). It should be something easy to build the playbooks for, but the game needs to progress in a day/night cycle where part of the game is about the safehouse/shelter/tent city you live in and the other is about risking the danger to find goods you are desperate for.

The further I got into the referee side, the more I think I should hack Blades in the Dark when it comes out of Beta... but then again I really like the Blades in the Dark beta.

Bonds:
My bond with Conwall needs changing from "Conwall has taken a different path to this occupation with death. I can bring him peace and absolution if he confesses." to "Are all elves Godless jocular nihilists nominally distinct from demons, or it that just Conwall? I think to understand him, I would have to understand his culture."

But my bond with Tom changed a long time ago. From "Brother Bonney seems lax in his faith. I can bring him discipline and absolution if he confesses." to "Tom has shown me the complexity of faith. I can confide in him things I would not tell the others."

Either +1 or +2 XP

Alignment: Evil Cause a heretic great pain before they expire. Frequently? Danse was probably the most tragic. +1 xp

Party Answers: +3 XP

6+5 = 11 - (3+7) = level 4.01
Roshan will take Armor of Wrath:The armor you wear is charged by the purity of your soul. You ignore the clumsy tag on all armor. When an enemy’s skin touches your armor, they take your current Wrath in damage (ignores armor). And increase strength to 18(+3).

She'll also take the crossbow.

Has it been that long since the last end of session?

If that's the case my bond with Roshan needs to be resolved.

Why, yes. Yes it has been that long. Conwall, these demons have really allowed us to procrastinate...

The crossbow is yours. I didn't write down the stats because I knew it wouldn't be mine.

Tom, have you looked at Night Witches by Jason Morningstar? It has a night/day cycle similar to what you describe and might be a good inspiration.

Also: while I can see where a hangout could increase the pace of things, I'm playing PbP in part because it's hard to find dedicated time with the aforementioned not-quite-two kid running around, so I wouldn't be able to join in for that.

HP: 22/22 | Gambit 0 | Def 0 | GG: 619 (+4026 infernal) | Aggressive 7.11 BM (6.0 Wiz -0 ongoing) | AC 4 | 1d8 | S 1 | D 3 | C 0 | I 3 | W 0 | CH 0 | Spells: Light, Prestidig., US, Shadow Walk

I think the hangout is something you would have to advertise right from the start.

I don't know much about Night Witches, but the day/night cycle is specifically a hideout (day, when military is active)/mission (night when you can steal to live) cycle that fits exactly with the Blades in the Dark play structure.

I also plan on using Blades in the Dark to run a Darkest Dungeon campaign with my group after the 5e campaign.

HP: 22/22 | Gambit 0 | Def 0 | GG: 619 (+4026 infernal) | Aggressive 7.11 BM (6.0 Wiz -0 ongoing) | AC 4 | 1d8 | S 1 | D 3 | C 0 | I 3 | W 0 | CH 0 | Spells: Light, Prestidig., US, Shadow Walk

In Night Witches you play as members of a real all-female russian bomber squadron in WW2. During the day phase you go through life at the airbase, and deal with issues of sexism and hierarchy. At night you go on bombing raids. I actually haven't played it, but the concept seemed similar enough to what you are describing that I thought I should mention it.

Blades sounds awesome based on Season 3 of Friends at the Table. And yeah it fits the hideout/mission structure precisely.

Male Human Cleric 6 26/26 HP | 14 XP | Bless, Sanctuary, Speak With Dead | -2 cast a spell, 2 hold (spend 2 to make camp, 5 to escape labyrinth), blessed

I just knew it was about... well the Night Witches. That does sound interesting.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to playing Blades. I normally give my group a few choices, but they are Darkest Dungeon fans so it's a bit of stacking the deck with that one.

Also, big Friends at the Table fan despite Austin's extreme smugness. I've only listened to seasons Heiron 1, Mierelda, and now the current season. I could listen to Jack's music all day too.

I'm thinking about my level 5 advanced move. Any objections to me taking multiclass dabbler, dipping into ranger and getting me a sick-ass owl friend?

I'm down with it. Owl's are cool.

I mean, at least marginally justify it (Maybe in a flashback, or breif scene) but I doubt that will be a problem.

Maybe a relative sent the owl. Since Conwall has been gone so long and is wanted by the fuzz.

A metal demon owl acknowledges his victory. Turns out owls are he symbols of champions in hell.

just to clarify, by "Metal Demon Owl" do you mean a demonic owl wich is made of iron or brass or something, or do you mean a demonic owl which is wicked into Slayer and Judas Priest?

Male Human Cleric 6 26/26 HP | 14 XP | Bless, Sanctuary, Speak With Dead | -2 cast a spell, 2 hold (spend 2 to make camp, 5 to escape labyrinth), blessed

I didn't know which was better so I left it in the air. Maybe a metal metal demon owl.

Female Dwarf Channeler 8 (23/28 hp, 1 armor, d4 damage, 2/15 xp) (Str -1, Dex +2, Con +3, Int +2, Wis +1, Cha +0)

Personally, I was expecting it to be a prelude to a new compendium class: "When you receive an invitation to Hogwarts, you may take the following move on your next level up:
Unlikely Involvement
When a grim portent is about to come to pass, the DM will tell you where. If you like, you may tell the DM what unrelated activity brings you there at just the right, or wrong, moment."

Though the Clash of the Titans metal owl sounds interesting. Bonus points if it's made of skysteel and Asmodean bone!

Female Dwarf Channeler 8 (23/28 hp, 1 armor, d4 damage, 2/15 xp) (Str -1, Dex +2, Con +3, Int +2, Wis +1, Cha +0)

Also, new bond with Roshan: "Roshan may be right that my powers are dangerous; but they're also necessary. I hope she sees that."

That sounds good to you?

Skysteel Owl sounds great. For some backstory, I'm thinking it's my sister's pet owl (some elves craft weapons, others mechanical animals) that was thought lost after her death.

His name is Percival. He's made of Skysteel with yellow gems for eyes. His clockwork mechanisms can only be repaired by the one who built him, so if he gets killed he'll likely stay killed.

Base: Ferocity +1, Cunning +2, 1 Armor, Instinct +1

Weakness: Stubborn

Awww... I don't know why an owl called percival makes me Awww, but it does.

I GM a steampunk 5e game through roll20 and there is a warforged druid that shapeshifts into clockwork creatures. At least 50% of my prep time is finding badass pictures of steampunk creatures to turn into tokens.

1. Owls are the absolute best animal companions.

2. A question for clarity's sake:
Does your houseruled Confeitor move benefit from Keen to Inquire (replacing CHA with Wrath)?

sure, seems reasonable. are we using that?

Yes, it fits much better with Roshan's character: parroting platitudes and second-guessing everyone's choices.

Ron Bucanero digivolves into ...

Level 6 finally realizes my plan for this character since level 1.
Taking advanced battlemaster move that gives me Thief's Backstab. (invis+backstab ... nothing to see here folks)
Taking +1 to Dex to bring to 18 for +3
Learning Fireball (reskinned as a ball lightning effect if that's ok)

Currently prepared spells: Detect Magic, Invis, Charm Person, Fireball

Let's go hunting.

the ball lightning reskin if fine (Note, may sill set things on fire, if I'm in that kind of mood)

and backstab will still drop invis... but I suspect it will also drop most things you use it on.

I'm bringing my Constitution to 18 for a CON of +3 and 26HP.

I'm going to take Devoted Healer because I just don't heal enough when I do.

I need 12 hours to level though, right? Are we making camp for an extended period?

Female Dwarf Channeler 8 (23/28 hp, 1 armor, d4 damage, 2/15 xp) (Str -1, Dex +2, Con +3, Int +2, Wis +1, Cha +0)

RAW isn't nearly that specific:

Level Up wrote:

Level Up

When you have downtime (hours or days) and XP equal to (or greater than) your current level+7, you can reflect on your experiences and hone your skills.

Though re-reading that, I can see how you could parse it as "when you have [both] downtime...and XP equal to your current level plus 7...". I think the "hours or days" parenthetical makes that reading unlikely, since there's a big difference between X hours and X days.

(And, since it's relevant and on the same page, the rules for healing when you rest:)
