"Retcon away" I say, watching my dreams of triple-weilding swords in both hands and my prehensile tongue slip away

If you search for "retconnicus" in my Beyond Heaven campaign, you'll see I never shy away from retconning.

Male Human Cleric 6 26/26 HP | 14 XP | Bless, Sanctuary, Speak With Dead | -2 cast a spell, 2 hold (spend 2 to make camp, 5 to escape labyrinth), blessed

Don't wait on me, I'm fine with retcons.

Keep hope, perhaps after Ron gets polymorph, he will give you new limbs.

Female Dwarf Channeler 8 (23/28 hp, 1 armor, d4 damage, 2/15 xp) (Str -1, Dex +2, Con +3, Int +2, Wis +1, Cha +0)

If that's who I'm guessing, I'd just like to say: well played.

Male Human Cleric 6 26/26 HP | 14 XP | Bless, Sanctuary, Speak With Dead | -2 cast a spell, 2 hold (spend 2 to make camp, 5 to escape labyrinth), blessed

This is Ishtar, right? I just saw his body so can I react like I recognize him?

F Templar Lvl 6.02   dmg:D8 HP:25/25 A:2   Wrath:+3 ~ STR:+3 ~ CON:+2 ~ DEX:+1 ~ WIS:+1 ~ INT:0 ~ CHA-1   WANTED

Don't let Roshan "let the heathens suffer" Kaur find out she has a vulnerable God of betrayal on hand for inquisition. Those are going to be some paradigm-shifting truths and lies.

yes, it is, in fact, Ishvar. I had forgotten you had seen him.

and, does this exceed my record for hardest move yet?

HP: 22/22 | Gambit 0 | Def 0 | GG: 619 (+4026 infernal) | Aggressive 7.11 BM (6.0 Wiz -0 ongoing) | AC 4 | 1d8 | S 1 | D 3 | C 0 | I 3 | W 0 | CH 0 | Spells: Light, Prestidig., US, Shadow Walk

Seems like a 10+ result to me.

You seem to have underestimated my capacity for cruelty.

also, sometimes the hardest move I can make is letting the plan be completed to perfection.

Male Elf Level 6 Fighter (Armor 3, HP 25/25, xp 9/13 load 6/12) |STR 0|DEX 2|CON 1|INT 1|WIS 1|CHA 1

Yeah...this guy doesn't look "helpful" so much

F Templar Lvl 6.02   dmg:D8 HP:25/25 A:2   Wrath:+3 ~ STR:+3 ~ CON:+2 ~ DEX:+1 ~ WIS:+1 ~ INT:0 ~ CHA-1   WANTED

Maybe I'm not paying attention. What's Ishvar's domain? I thought it was still betrayal and Einora just usurped it. I really didn't think this was an "enemy of my enemy" moment. He's just going to Loki us.

Female Dwarf Channeler 8 (23/28 hp, 1 armor, d4 damage, 2/15 xp) (Str -1, Dex +2, Con +3, Int +2, Wis +1, Cha +0)

That's my understanding as well. Only thing anyone's really said IC though was Ron suggesting this plan and Conwall agreeing.

Male Human Cleric 6 26/26 HP | 14 XP | Bless, Sanctuary, Speak With Dead | -2 cast a spell, 2 hold (spend 2 to make camp, 5 to escape labyrinth), blessed

I was just making it clear who this was. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him, but having him loose makes Einora all the bigger target.

I healed him because somehow being s~#@ty to a God seemed like a bad plan.

yep, he is the lord of treachery and deceit, who has been usurped. but he does need you guys, if he ever wants his godhood back...

F Templar Lvl 6.02   dmg:D8 HP:25/25 A:2   Wrath:+3 ~ STR:+3 ~ CON:+2 ~ DEX:+1 ~ WIS:+1 ~ INT:0 ~ CHA-1   WANTED

At least keep him restrained until Roshan can use inquisition, and don't believe anything he says. We don't know what this means for the godhood (like why was he alive on the altar to begin with?)

Male Human Cleric 6 26/26 HP | 14 XP | Bless, Sanctuary, Speak With Dead | -2 cast a spell, 2 hold (spend 2 to make camp, 5 to escape labyrinth), blessed

His wounds were self healing before I cast a spell, I think he's too strong to reliably bind and I can't prepare Hold Person and Revelation.

F Templar Lvl 6.02   dmg:D8 HP:25/25 A:2   Wrath:+3 ~ STR:+3 ~ CON:+2 ~ DEX:+1 ~ WIS:+1 ~ INT:0 ~ CHA-1   WANTED

Butts...

He was being held pretty well by one of the obsidian daggers?

Full disclosure, ther eis a custom move for Ishtar

Eminently Practical and Yet Appropriate as Always

When you comply with a direct request or order from Ishtar, Mark XP

So, guys, I have someone interested in trying out PbP, abd I wanted to run by you guys, seeing if you would be willing to let another person in?

No problem.

No complaints here.

As I understand, He's considering a survivor

Ishtar sounds like a survivor.

you know, actually, that was the first question he asked me. "What playbook would a de-powered god be". But i'm selfish, Ishtar is too fun to relinquish control of

I like to imagine tht one of these days, McKhaos will be stealing something from me. but as it stands, here is the rule

MCKhaos wrote:

I've been thinking a great deal about narrative control in dungeon world. I enjoy giving as much narrative control to the PCs as possible. On an unrelated note, I find my greatest difficulty as a DW GM is the defy danger 7-9 result. In an effort to kill two birds with one stone, I've been playing around with a re-write of Defy Danger. What do you think of this? Is it madness? Would you be willing to playtest it for a bit in our game?

I added the XP incentive to drive the players towards upping the ante. Another bonus for PbP, is that we've all seen that a player can in theory continue narrating a scene until they hit a 6- generally, or a 7-9 on a defy danger (alternatively, a player will get a 7-9, continuing the narration and it becomes difficult to retcon). If the player has control over 7-9, then a post doesn't really NEED to end until a 6- is rolled.

When you act despite an imminent threat or suffer a calamity, say how you deal with it and roll. If you do it

by powering through, +Str
by getting out of the way or acting fast, +Dex
by enduring, +Con
with quick thinking, +Int
through mental fortitude, +Wis
using charm and social grace, +Cha

✴On a 7+, you do what you set out to and the specific threat doesn’t come to bear.

✴On a 7–9, describe how the situation worsens for your character, the party, or the world. If the GM is impressed by your creative masochism, mark XP.

I think we'll implement it here too, as it is going so well in Beyond heaven

Spout lore to figure out how to help him in that world, stop him from getting his throat cut in this one. It shouldn't be a long little subplot

"Benders" was a throwback to an offhand comment Ron made many pages ago when talking to Belym. I had mentioned that there was a small contingent of channelers (which Ron calls benders) in his army way back in the day.

Yep - your last reply to me was "holding your action to keep you on Conwall's timeline," so unless I'm missing something I've got a pair of Channels that haven't been resolved yet.

Trying to get back up to speed here...

You know, going from Sapkowski to Pratchett is quite the change, and it might show in my prose.

Probably not themes though, too much grimness to have a Discworld-y plotline

F Templar Lvl 6.02   dmg:D8 HP:25/25 A:2   Wrath:+3 ~ STR:+3 ~ CON:+2 ~ DEX:+1 ~ WIS:+1 ~ INT:0 ~ CHA-1   WANTED

I can has EoS soon?
I think it's been since July.

I also think I need some DM intervention on the Confession move. If this were a Diskworld-y setting, we'd have plenty of use for it in or out of combat, but with the grim realism in this setting, it's not really finding its place.

My plan has been to take White Knight(Hospitalier) and buff it up to 2d8, but I don't know if that would necessarily fix the problem. I love the RP facet, I'm just not sure the mechanics encourage the fluff in the right way or at the right time. Healing outside of combat will be well taken care of once Roshan has her Cleansing Censer Censure and everyone heals to full with a long rest.

I think it needs to move away from healing, but not into a buff. We have enough of that with Tom's double bless^2. Even something like helping with Last Breath and resuscitating NPCs / boosting gang morale would make it feel more on-theme.

How about full away from combat & Healing. Roshan already is awesome in combat, so maybe bring it all the way away from the battlefield/harm & healing.

one potential rewrite:

Confeitor

When you Hear a sinner's confession, and tell them what they must do for absolution, roll +CHA. On a 10+, they will take that course of action, although they will take it in the way that benefits them most. On a 7-9, they aren't sure it's something they want to do, but you have their ear now - you gain leverage over them.

When another player comes to you seeking absolution, tell them what you think is just and right. If they act on your advice, they take +1 forward. At the end of the session, if at least one player who acted on your advice actually benefitted from it in the end, you mark XP.

I think, when you guys rest, I should call end of session. sound reasonable?

F Templar Lvl 6.02   dmg:D8 HP:25/25 A:2   Wrath:+3 ~ STR:+3 ~ CON:+2 ~ DEX:+1 ~ WIS:+1 ~ INT:0 ~ CHA-1   WANTED

Yes.

Yeah I think so. It's been pretty bonkers.

End of Session:

Alignment: Endanger yourself to make a plan succeed. -I think running off half cocked to deal with the portal counts. +1

New and Important: So much. Ishvar, the snake letter. +1
Overcome a notable monster: Conwall v. the Snake. +1
Loot memorable treasure: Sweet fire crossbow. +1

Bonds: I think I can resolve "Conwall's fighting style is too flamboyant and reckless. I will teach him discipline in battle." I think that is exactly what happened when I used the gambit in his fight against the snake.

New Bonds: I have let my fear of elves color my relationship of Conwall. I was wrong, he is worthy of my trust and friendship and I will prove it to him.

If that sounds good with Conwall ... then another +1.

+5 total, but not enough to level.

I think, unless I am verry mistaken, that we are winding down into camp, so here's the move!

End of Session
When you reach the end of a session, choose one of your bonds
that you feel is resolved (completely explored, no longer relevant,
or otherwise). Ask the player of the character you have the bond
with if they agree. If they do, mark XP and write a new bond with
whomever you wish.

Once bonds have been updated look at your alignment. If you
fulfilled that alignment at least once this session, mark XP. Then
answer these three questions as a group:
• Did we learn something new and important about the world?
• Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
• Did we loot a memorable treasure?
For each “yes” answer everyone marks XP.

also, a note on the crossbow, that should read near, not close. mea culpa

Male Human Cleric 6 26/26 HP | 14 XP | Bless, Sanctuary, Speak With Dead | -2 cast a spell, 2 hold (spend 2 to make camp, 5 to escape labyrinth), blessed

I don't think any of my bonds with you guys make sense to mark yet, but the rest of the EoS stuff is covered for 4XP for me.

EDIT

Wait, is 12 the right number to reach level 6? I did not expect that.

Male Elf Level 6 Fighter (Armor 3, HP 25/25, xp 9/13 load 6/12) |STR 0|DEX 2|CON 1|INT 1|WIS 1|CHA 1

Alignment: Defend those weaker than you. Ohhhhh yeah.
End of session moves: +3. No bonds (But I like your new one Ron)

That's enough for me to level. I'll do it when I'm home.

I'm thinking the crossbow should go to Roshan, unless she is morally opposed to such a weapon.

Female Dwarf Channeler 8 (23/28 hp, 1 armor, d4 damage, 2/15 xp) (Str -1, Dex +2, Con +3, Int +2, Wis +1, Cha +0)

Ron's answers for the questions: +3
Alignment: Use your Conduit to help someone at cost to your body - between Overchannels and 7-9s, definitely covered. +1
Bonds: Thinking I'll be tweaking the bond with Roshan, gotta work on the wording some.

All that's enough to level up. Taking Dual Conduits and bumping Dex.

Also: Tom, that's correct - level up is (current level + 7)
