Dungeon World: Land of the Lost Game Play-by-Post

Game Master Heath Rickmond

We play a Dungeon World based loosely on Robert Howard's world of Conan the Cimmerian. The time period would be later in Conan's life when he had become a king. The character's story if under the umbrella of his, but their story will be personal and immersive. The Fiction is all....

As Spider monkey looks around for easy money, roll Discern Realities (2d6 + WIS).

The master builder for the ship pulls out a map and says, "We should be at the shore in just a few hours. After we get there, we can set up camp. There have been reports of savage picts in this wilderness. Perhaps your bird will spot them before they spot us, Siobhan.

Siobhan Wildeyes wrote:

He responds to Ajax, "My name is Siobhan. I am hoping that we run into some interesting creatures while we are there. I am traveling around looking for new creatures that I can find and understand the essence of. I have heard wild stories from Lost Island and hoping to find some unique creatures there."

At that moment there is a screech from the air and he raises his arm so that a Falcon can land on it.

He says, "This is Sika. He is my friend and helps me scout around"

Heath I want to use Sika to scout around I am able to communicate with him so this should be possible.

Siobhan looks at Sika and says, "Scout around alert me if you see anything unusual."

He then launches him into the air.

Sika soars majestically into the air, high above the foreboding woods that surround the path the group is travelling. He seems to have not a care in the world. Still, he wants to please his master and observes the immediate area the best he can (roll Discern Realities).

yes ajax-bo

Discern Realities: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 2) + 3 = 10

Male Human Druid 1

What is about to happen?
What should I be on the lookout for?
What here is not what it appears to be?

Siobhan Wildeyes wrote:

Sika sees a several bushes that are moving,which he considers to be strange since they usually do not move on their own. The creatures moving them are naked and appear human, but are covered with mud and filth. He soars down towards his master, his speed and expression clearly indicating to Siobhan that an ambush is inevitable.

Sika has just bought the entire group 2 hold (preparatory actions) before the inevitable ambush (Siobhan must warn the group quickly in order to get these actions). Keep in mind the ambushers know the group is there, so time is short. What would you like to do?

Male Human Druid 1

Siobhan starts heading in the direction indicated by Sika. He shouts, "to arms, preprepare for ambush."

He then continues to run toward the ambush while calling upon the spirits to change my shape

Shapeshifter: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 1) + 3 = 8

Ajax draws his sword to prepare for battle!

discern realities: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 5) - 1 = 9

Spider looks around to find a defensible position.

And prepares to throw a dagger at hostile creature.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Human Druid 1

Heath, the shape I was taking was the grey devil. Not sure what the moves should be but one could be pounce, one could be something like trample or trip

Male Human Druid 1

here is an image

the fur is more of a sandy gray color

[dice=Shapeshifter]2d6+3

Siobhan roars to life as the monstrous grey devil, but it takes him the whole time to change and he is left in the wide open before the picts who come rushing from their cover in the dark forest. There are 12 picts in all and three come rushing at the giant tiger-like creature. They seem more beasts than men as they rush forward to stab their prey.

Spider monkey wrote:

Roll Defy Danger (Dex) as you look to find cover and then a volley roll (Dex) to launch your daggers at picts who rush past your position.

The builders take cover behind trees and nice shrubberies (the ones that are not too big or tall) since they are not much for fighting (they pull out daggers just in case). The sailors enjoy a good brawl and take up defensive positions with half of them bringing out crossbows and the other three pulling out melee weapons to aid the leaders in this expedition in combat. Players may have one sailor aid them in some way in this fight. Describe how they help.

Male Human Druid 1

Siobhan spins swiftly in place striking at all three hoping to swiftly in his portion of the battle and move to aid the others. One of the sailors is shooting his crossbow at the same group aiding him in his attack.

hack-n-slash: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2) + 1 = 5

Dealing damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4 to each foe if successful

defy dAnger: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9

volley: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8

damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1

Using backstab to avoid getting out of melee combat

The large, grey beast form is a little awkward for Siobhan and he reaches out too far with the unfamiliar limbs, missing all three of his assailants. All three of the picts are terrified of the beast, but one is brave enough to stab into you with it's crude spear. Take damage and your 1 xp for failure.

1d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3

Spider monkey wrote:

You successfully jump behind a bush as 3 picts run past you. Unfortunately, the disturbance of the bushes makes a small bird fly out and 3 other picts come your direction to investigate the bush.

Spider monkey wrote:
[dice=volley]2d6+2

Spider Monkey hits one of the picts for 1 damage as they run wildly past and SM throw a quick shot at his back, hoping to drop him. Fortunately, one of the sailor's was also taking a crossbow shot at the same one you nimbly hit with your dagger. The pict drops! 1 down...11 to go!

Ezuri has been quiet and kept to himself on the journey thus far, he is not much of a small talker or very involved at all in menial matters, but now he sees his chance to make a difference.

Ezuri seeks to flank the ambush by defying danger ...by getting out of the way or acting fast, +Dex

[dice=Flank]1d20 + 16

[dice=Flank]1d20 + 16]

If I cant get the dice thing down this time I might need some help. haha

Male Human Druid 1

Ezuri down at the bottom below the text form box is a how to format your text. If you click the show button you can see the formatting or replace this string with square brackets instead of curly braces {dice=flank}2d6+2 {/dice}

the rolls are 2d6 not a typical d20

I will attempt to toss my second dagger at one of the incoming Picts.

volley: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8

I will then look for another bush to hide in.

Discern realities: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 2) - 1 = 6

Damage: 8 = 8

do we get XP every time we fail a roll?

Male Human Druid 1

anytime we get a 6 or less on a 2d6 roll we mark 1 so. To level we need at least our level plus 7 in total xp

Siobhan will attempt to spin around again exchanging hits with each of his opponents.

hack-n-slash: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 2) + 1 = 41d6 ⇒ 1

Male Human Druid 1

I am apparently either going to level when we camp or die in this battle

true but it is nice we either gain xp or succeed.

Spider monkey wrote:

Absolutely! Please do not forget to keep up with your 1 xp every time you roll a 6 or less for the total.

Ezuri the Ranger wrote:

You are fine, bro. I have posted how to correctly post dice rolls so that they actually work at the bottom of this message. When you type them, just substitute [ or ] where you see { or } below.

{dice=HackandSlash}2d6 + 3; 1d6 {/dice}

Also, always wait for me to tell you what to roll. You will describe your action and I will tell you what to roll most of the time (unless it's a special move on your character sheet I know little about). Then you can ask, "Can I use this move to do this...." I hope all this makes sense, but it will get easier as we go along.

You made your roll and Spider finds 2 gold lunas, but is not able to get both of them. He only gets one, but something is better than nothing!

This event all took place before combat.

Spider monkey wrote:

Hit!

Fail! Gain 1 xp

With a flick of the wrist and a speed the human eye can barely follow, Spider hits and drops another of the picts, who falls face first and slides to stop right next to Spider's hiding shrubbery. Another pict bites the dust!

There is only one left. Spider tries to quickly find another spot to hide, but cannot do so in time!! The final of three picts rushes him and stabs him with his crude spear. The weapon may be crude, but it still hurts! Speardamage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

Even though the dice roll should be 2d6, I'm still going with what it rolled because it makes for good story-telling right now.

Ajax swings his mighty sword, felling one wild pict who was too eager to meet death. One pict of three dies as the aeterial spray hits the faces of his allies. Instead of discouraging them, it only seems to embolden them to fight with greater gusto.

The other two attack Ajax together, hoping they will succeed as they flank Ajax, who they poke at like a wild animal. What does Ajax do as they poke at him?

Fail! Get that 1 xp, boyeeeee!

Seeing the great cat to be not as formidable as they thought, the three picts become braver and attack with greater force, wounding the great feline with multiple stabs. Two of them connect this time.

damage: 2d4 - 2 ⇒ (4, 3) - 2 = 5

Any damage taken is reduce by any armor you may have, which would be at least 1 for the cat.

Go ahead and re-roll since no actual dice result appeared.

The three heroes notice their fourth member, who had been quiet and incognito for a while (which is his way), join the fray to make things a little more evenly matched.

heath, I need to remember that as a halfling I get +2 damage on ranged att

As Spider gets hit he pulls his rapier out of its holster and stabs at the pict.

Roll HackandSlash

I remembered and calculated that into your hit along with the sailor crossbow help. We are all still learning.

Male Human Druid 1

Heath, what are the moves that I have with this form? The shape took was the grey devil. Not sure what the moves should be but one could be pounce, one could be something like trample or trip or they can be what ever we want. One could even be inspire fear or something like that.

hack and slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 1) + 2 = 7

Damage: 8 = 8

Spider skewers his last attacker with a swift stab of his blade to the pict's gut, but the momentum of the charging wild man actually knocks him down. Spider hits his head hard on a rock as he falls. Igotknockeddown: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2

Your last assailant is down and you can now assist others
