you are basically fighting a boss here. By yourself. Of course if you only roll 10's you will be fine

So, after successfully defying the danger of being attacked, and getting a 7-9 on an attempt to grapple (and possibly tie up) the whipmaster, I take damage (the thing I successfully avoided) and, what? They're still not bound? I don't understand what I gained from one and a half successful rolls. If he's bound, can he effectively use his armor? I may still be at risk for repercussions from the living whip with a hack and slash, but it would be fairly easy to find a joint in his armor, or stab him in his neck from up close if he can't move.

[dice=Thank you sir may I have another]1d8

Are you grappling or just stabbing?

Golem (Fire) | Lvl 2 | XP 6 | HP 17/25| CON +1 STR +1 DEX +2 INT +0 WIS -1 CHA +0 |

You try to piss on me and I'll burn your dick off! Amaranth snaps at the Orc

DD CHA for Intimidation: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2

She then whirls around and is ready bash in the Orc's head. If he does attack me, I'll spend a hold to cause great damage to his weapon. But that day won't come, as I've been ordered to kill you now Amaranths eyes glow with a blazing fury. Hack & Slash with instructions (body is precise): 2d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 + 1 = 8

Let's see you recover from that

If I can slap him and then whirl around him, holding him in a flexible grapple, I can do an extra 1d4, GM's discretion. I'm willing to take a hit to do it.

Damage from earlier (being exposed): 1d6 ⇒ 2

oh you will definitely be taking damage and there will be another penalty but but it won't stop you from hitting him, and I'm happy to let you do that though as you say you will take another hit

Okay then, here goes the damage damage dealt: 1d8 + 1d4 ⇒ (2) + (1) = 3

A boss with three non-trivial minions in the second encounter of the first session of play, wielding a weapon with all ranges which ignores armor and wearing some amount of armor, whereas most of us have trivial equipment and none of us is fully sure how our classes work. At what point were we supposed to understand this room had mechagodzilla in it so we could avoid it?

I'm through wasting rolls trying to fictionally position my way into a position of equal footing. One of the two of us is dying in this chamber, and I'm still not sure if this encounter is worth surviving. I don't get the feeling you're a fan of my character.

Around the time you cheered my second partial success out of ten rolls, I started to feel like this wasn't about David taking down Goliath through wit and luck, but a killing trap closing on an unnamed vermin.

How many aditional damage rolls did you want me to roll on Nathan?

Nathan blindly stabs at the prone figure until it stops moving or he blacks out.

Himnon gratefully takes the stick, without which he wouldn't be in a very good position. He comes over to hit the orc with it.

Hack and slash: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10

Himnon, the stats for the stick are on my profile if you'd like to add it to your inventory. Clumsy means -1 to rolls using it, making that H&S roll a 9. It deals +1 damage by the way.

Mage (Dragon) | Lvl 2 | XP 5 | HP: 19/19 | Armour 1 | Damage 1d4 | STR 0 | DEX 1 | CON 1 | INT 2 | WIS -1 | CHA 0

I didn't know that. So my roll was 9 and my damage was 4. I'll update the weapon's information.

Gasping for breath, Nathan peels the whip from the whipmaster's hand and throws it across the room. Then, he rolls into a sitting position on the floor. Needing a minute to cool off and catch his breath, he looks around the room.

Are there any obvious details to the room? (Dressers, cabinets, sconces, etc.) What can Nathan clearly hear from this room? (Such as an end to the combat outside)

Once he's had a breather, he checks the whipmaster (and/or the obvious features of the room) for useful items.
Loot: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8

When he's done with the obvious, Nathan checks the less obvious. He checks cracks in the wall for drafts, pulls on sconces, searching for signs of Ezio's rumored cell.

The shouting and slamming ends in both rooms around the same time, combat replaced by the sound of silence that seems deafening. Of course neither room knows who won in the other room...

------------

Nathan, looking closer around the room you find that in addition to the bed, which you are intimate friends with after that fight, you find a desk with 3 drawers in it, though on is locked, there seems to be a slight red glow coming from it,also you find a cloak in the corner made out of white feathers, the whipmasters whip, which seems to lose its magical-ness now just load 1 close reach near), the armor is still mostly in tact, simple leather, covered in studs and spikes [ooc] load 1 armor 2, clumsy

Underneath the desk is silver holy symbol

additionally Nathan finds tossed under the bed his climbing spear, and a lantern with oil in it

-----------

Himnon realizes that one of the orcs is actually wearing his leather armor load 1 armor 1, and he finds his knife as well as well as a vial filled with the blackest of liquids he has ever seen

Sora finds an experience point and a vial with a red fizzy liquid, that smells of strawberries.

Had a whole paragraph but just looting my weapon from Whipmaster's room hopefully. Loot: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 2 = 6

Edit: I had 1 piece of equipment to start with, a weapon I haven't chosen yet.
Edit2: GM, you have the playbook, I don't know which of the choices seems most fitting for a being made of fire, perhaps the Messy weapon, something conductive maybe, such that it burns you when it hits.

No idea if you'll let us aid loot rolls, but just in case:
Aid Ammy: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2) + 1 = 6
Aid Kara: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 5) + 1 = 8

The messy weapon is going to work off STR. Not so much a problem for you if don't mind not using your better stat, especially since it'll mess up whatever it hits. Similar case for the forceful - use your worse stat for H&S, be able to knock enemies away. All your weapon options are +1 damage too.

If you want to have something conductive though, I might suggest the armoured plates. Armour, and since I imagine that they'd be metal, they'd conduct too so you won't lose your contact damage from the area they cover.

EDIT: Well apparently, a DR roll works for identification. Had to be DR! Here goes nothing:
Identify Strawberry Liquid: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 1) - 1 = 3
I expected nothing less.

Amaranth finds a chipped ruby worth 35 gold and an xp.

Kara does better for herself finding both her old spear and javelins in a barrel at the side of the room. She also scrounges up a small vial of a dark purple viscous liquid. It smells TERRIBLE. Wonder what it could be?

I will point out the locked drawer in the desk as well.

Mini? Can we just assume take Himnon as having a full success here? Had he known, he'd have rolled INT - with a base roll of 8, his +2 INT would give him 10. Sound fair?

Riiiight. I just assumed since the info given still doesn't say anything about what it does. All he knows is that it's the venom of some creature, and that he should get rid of it. Do you understand what I mean here? At least an impression would be helpful, if not specifics if it's that mysterious.

Also, can we aid loot rolls? You didn't answer that.

Himnon comes to his senses and looks for a dark chasm in which to leave the venom.

He also spouts lore about the venom.

I'm told I am to decide what the venom was. Would a roll be appropriate?

Spout Lore: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 5) + 2 = 11

Ungu was a master of poisons who came up with various creative types. This particular poison suffocates whomever consumes it.

Unnamed

Ungu. Master of poisons has long been a scourge on the goodly people of the world. He is known for "contagious" poisons that will infect the first person and then spread to those nearby. Pursued for decades he was never caught or defeated. He has not been around lately, is he dead or just in retirement, no one knows

Unnamed

I like to give players a chance to pitch in on items on occasion. He gave me the kernal I filled in more, perhaps you go looking for him sometime, perhaps not. I think I'd rather you not aid on loot rolls unless specified. I handle to give that some thought. But it slows things down I think.

M Wall-walker L:1.06 | d8 | A:1* | HP:6/16 | STR:+2 ~ DEX:+1 ~ CHA:+1 ~ WIS:0 ~ INT:0 ~ CON:-1

Nathan peeks out of the room, hand on the latch.

When he comes out, he tucks the silver holy symbol into Reno's stinky armor. "Sora, look! We're twins." He turns about and flourishes the cloak of white feathers. "I wonder where that slob got something this fine."

Sora would be glaring at Nathan if it wasn't for the cloak. If those were her feathers, she was going to flip out. She had no clue what the Tunnel-Keep had been doing with them, but if this was one of those things, Nathan wasn't going to have that cloak much longer even if she had to kill him for it. Just in case - ARE they her feathers? I doubt it, but you never know.

Come on...find something else to focus on. "I hope not. That'd mean I'm your sister. I'm not sure what'd be worse about that - being related, or that you'd make advances on a sibling." She flashes him an "I hate your guts" false smile. "Weren't you going on about a secret chamber in there? You got something to show us, or were you talking out your arse?" He did say he went looking for a passage to Ezio's cell. Did he find anything, Mini? Would he need a roll for it?

I haven't posted about it yet. Wanted to give folks a chance to deal with the glowing locked drawer first. Passage after.

M Wall-walker L:1.06 | d8 | A:1* | HP:6/16 | STR:+2 ~ DEX:+1 ~ CHA:+1 ~ WIS:0 ~ INT:0 ~ CON:-1

That roll was to see if it dawns on Nathan that the cloak might actually be made from her feathers. An identification roll. I guess that might be "what here is not as it seems?"

Nathan:

The cloak is so very soft, amazingly soft. You could almost believe that it was made out of clouds...wait a minute...it really does look a lot like Sora's wings...must be a coincidence...right?

Sora:

Those are your feathers...what the f#%#&!? You gave those feathers to the Tunnel Master?! He promised he would only keep them for himself! What was the WhipMaster doing with it?! If the WhipMaster still lives perhaps it is time to have some words with him...if not the Tunnel Master has some explaining to do!

don't worry I know what your question choice was, it is still intact.

M Wall-walker L:1.06 | d8 | A:1* | HP:6/16 | STR:+2 ~ DEX:+1 ~ CHA:+1 ~ WIS:0 ~ INT:0 ~ CON:-1

Yeah, probably some coincident. I know if I had wings like those I wouldn't give away this many feathers without getting some considerable perks. Surely she's not underselling such a luxurious asset. "I'm sure we'd figure something out... Oh- Believe me, sister, there's something in there worth showing off. If anything, it's been undersold."

Nathan notices the mage. "Oh, hey, Harmon? Hamill? There's a viper of a whip in there if you're interested. I've been bit one too many times for us to be on speaking terms."

Female Skyfolk Sky Dancer | Lvl 3 | XP 3 | HP: 18/18 | Armour - 2, not that you can reach me. | Damage 1d8 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT 1 | WIS 0 | CHA 2

If this was deliberately set up, then I applaud you. I love it. That's EVIL.

At the moment of recognition, the chain comes to hand, ready for use. "Nathan. Take off that cloak. And hand it over. Otherwise, I am going to kill you. I'd prefer to have one more person helping, even if it is you, and you don't want to die. So why don't you cooperate? Just give me that, and we go have a word with the Tunnel-Keep. Sound alright?" Looking at Sora right now, it's obvious to everyone present that she will go through with her threat.

Anyone who knows of the Skyfolk know that they don't treat possession of their feathers lightly. If you have even one that they did not permit you to have, then entire settlements will come after you for it. Minimum. At which point, only the truly innocent come out unscathed. After all, why waste time on them? They have to find the one who will be punished.

Who among you know of the Skyfolk? Nathan excluded. He's a moron, of course HE won't.

Nathan tenses, glances obviously at a nearby wall, then chuckles nervously. "Not exactly my color, sis." He shrugs off the cloak and holds it out. "I'd make some offers of apology, but I can't think of anything I wouldn't offer anyway." His hand goes to the brim of his hat instinctively.

Removing the cloak reveals his back, which is riddled with wounds.

Sora snatches the cloak away the moment it's held out. "Thank. You. Count yourself lucky you didn't know." She takes a moment looking at the cloak. How dare he. How DARE he! Forget the Whipmaster, SHE would flay that bastard Tunnel-Keep's flesh! Death was too good for him. Of course they'd flaunt such a prize. Tch. Had she contact with home, this would be over. But she'd been forced to issue notice that she would be unavailable for a long time. Otherwise, this place would not be standing.

She runs her fingers across the cloak, then her wings, and uses the cloak to cover herself as best she can. Not very well, since it wasn't designed for one with wings, but enough to give her some modesty. Her top half was sadly still uncovered, but she had to make do. For now. "If you find any more such things, tell me. Having this many feathers is either a sign that one is a saint, or deserving of a fate far worse than death."

She ignored being called sister, and the implications of what Nathan had said earlier. She was too angry to care, currently. "Show us what you've found. If you like these that badly, then I meant what I said earlier. Show me you're worth a feather."

Heh. I freely admit I have no idea how to properly use either INT or WIS...both here and IRL. ;) Since one of the DR questions isn't "How do I open dis ting" I went the other way. I'll probably make this same mistake again. ^_^

'Julius Frinkletstith? Who the hell is that? Did...did I date him at one point? Was he the guy with the...um..glasses? Or is that someone I murdered? Maybe the guy with the glasses? But why does it glow? MAybe this viscous goo will help?'

Sora marches into the Whipmaster's room ahead of Nathan. She has to see for herself what's in there. Especially if there were more damn feathers. As she enters, she notices a terrible smell and Kara staring at a glowing drawer. There might be something useful in there, but on the other hand it could be deadly. Sora pulls mightily with her chain, it resists more than she would have thought possible, but it starts to give, she leans and pulls more. She soon realizes that she can keep pulling and it will bust open but she is going to fall hard, or she can give it up.

Sora:
Only thing useful, is that you realize if there is a lever for a secret passage...it is probably also inside the desk, and since everywhere but the drawer has been searched...it must be in there.

No ambush or trap awaiting you in this room, you can see that based on the glow in the desk, the way it is not of uniform strength, that there is something else in that drawer also.

sora:
you read the journal with increasingly disgust and amazement. Amazement that the whip master could write then disgust. Most of the entries have to do with experimenting with new ways of whipping and inflicting pain. Interestingly enough he was actually recording data...apparently he was going to write a treatise on it.

But more to your concern there are hand drawn pictures of you with him stroking your wings. Pictures of little Babies that are half Orc and half sky folk. Poems written about you.

Then there is a long entry that talks about his negotiations with the Tunnel Master for the feathers. Needless to say there was a lot of unsavory things happening in the dark. In addition certain slaves would get extra punishment and some less depending on what the tunnel master ordered, finally it would appear that the bulk of the whip masters pay went to the tunnel master as well

my only regret is that it was not you that faced off with him. Would have been soo good
