I guess you'll have to find out. It's a homebrew monster after all.
Charis doesn't recognize the entity. While her first thought would be a shadow, or ghost, given it's transparency, neither of those have more than 2 appendages.
This one has 4....and doesn't shun light as much as a shadow would.
Carlaya |
Alright, here goes nothing.
Carlaya aims her bow at the tendrilled, shadowy creature. "It's not so nice to sneak up on an expecting group of adventurers, so how about I teach you a lesson, sweetie?"
Fast as lightning, she shoots three arrows, aiming for the tendrils.

Carlaya's first shot passes through the entity, yet seems to invoke a twitch in its shape. She hurt it.
Yes, incorporeal. It takes 4 dmg.

Entity (-4) glides closer, and reaches out to Carlaya with an appendage similar to a tentacle, sprouting from its shoulder.
Touch: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
It touches her chest (pervert!), and she hears some whispers inside her head, but can't recognize the words.

Not sure that the Will save is for, so please let me know if I can act. Please move me back if I can not move.
Intended action is to double move into the room, dropping the torch behind Charis and using second move to draw greatsword.

You misunderstood, that meant your action will resolve 1st, in init. :)
You have 3 wis dmg, btw, you took 2 wis dmg for that 1st fort roll not passing.
Ed Earl double times it into the room, drawing his sword as he goes.
Old Grog, Renee, Zira @ Charis
Old Grog |
Something about the apparition ticked Grog off and spittle flying he roars into attack, "Hands off ye dirty *@#%?!"
He steps past The Maiden and muscles creaking from the strain, he brings his hammer down on top of the thing. He then brings it back and lunges through the thing's center of mass!

The Maiden of Jewels |
The Maiden focuses inwards, trying to get her thoughts in order. The sea of chaos that sifts through her mind manages to calm, centered against a light from above. Her mind sails smoothly from one thought to the next. Maybe the gods want me to destroy whatever this madness is... they will even stop toying with me!
She pulls out her magical whip and cracks it once at the image, guided by the gods.

The Maiden ducks underneath the strange tentacles as it tries to touch her mind. "You have no idea what my nightmares are like."
The room is so cramped it's almost impossible to raise her whip. So she experiments. She pulls out her wand of Cure Light Wounds and tries to apply it to the shadow, hoping it reacts negatively to positive energy.

Renee launches two more arrows, and retreats a few steps to give some room for the other to maneuver.

Grog's muscles ripple and bulge as the effect of Ziras' spell takes hold. Grog cackles with glee, completely focused on smashing the very air forming the entity! Like a meteor plummeting to the ground, Grog's hammer sings as it bludgeons it's way through the air! The ground below the entity is mazed with cracks from the heavy impact.

Ed Earl is the only one to be affected, and smacks himself in the head, to the others' surprise, with his own weapon.
Carlaya wasn't even touched, but it's touching to see her enthusiasm :)
Charis' healing seems to aid the thing...was that a sinister chuckle she just heard?
Renee hits with one Arrow, which, true to his suspicions, doesn't confirm.
Old Grog knocks over the lamp behind him, as he repositions himself for use of his hammer.
Which he does well, as both attacks cause great discomfort for the incorporeal creature.
Almost, 1 hit should do it.
Can someone post for Zira.
Carlaya |
Actually, Carlaya took an AoO earlier so that save was needed
Carlaya drops her bow and draws her rapier, then tries to stick it to the shadow with little success.

===============
The shrine, round 3
Carlaya's attack misses its intended target, as the entity bends in impossible ways.
You can't do two attacks after drawing your weapon, it'd be cool if it were possible.

The gods mock this thing's attempts to befuddle the Maiden. Realizing the wand won't do much, she shuffles to the side, drops the wand and lines up with Old Grog. She raises her whip to strike, provoking another attack.
Provokes an AoO

"Die monster!" She snaps the whip at the phantom. "You don't belong in this world!"
Old Grog |
Grog snorts when the entity touches his mind, trying to befuddle him. If enough distilled grain alcohol to kill a horse didn't befuddle Grog, no apparition was going to either!
Will: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 2 = 19

Ed Earl smacks himself in the head again with the blade of his sword.
Masochistic Delight: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
After Ed Earl's crazy action, Charis cracks her whip. Resisting the touch from the entity, she deals the final blow to it.
As the whip passes through the incorporeal body, the magic properties disrupt its partial connection to this world, and with a shriek it dissipates.
Combat over.
Old Grog |
Grog shivers when the entity dissolves, and takes a long pull from his hip flask. As he does so his eyes dart around looking for any clues or unusual things in the room which might explain why they just encountered that thing...
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
After he's caught his breath he grumbles, "Suppose we go deeper eh?" Slowly, so anyone who wanted to go go first could, Grog started ambling east.
Carlaya |
Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
"Whew." Carlaya breathes a sigh of relief. "That thing really messed with your mind, huh?" She looks Ed Earl up and down, then moves back to the hallway with Grog. "Thanks for your help, Rags.... Not." She quips as she whacks her snake on the head.
Ed Earl |
If Ed Earl had the confused condition, he would not have attacked himself the second time. The creature attacked Ed Earl, so Ed Earl automatically attacks the creature.
Also, is Ed Earl still under the confused condition, as he may continue attacking either himself or others now.
Xeram |
You were confused on your own turn last round, and hit yourself, after that you came to your senses again.
When the entity's turn came around, it attacked you, and you became confused again, after that failed save.
The confusion effect lasts 1 turn after a successful attack.
The Maiden of Jewels |
"Is everyone alright?" Charis pulls out her wand. "Whatever that thing was doing to our minds, it's over."
Feel free to roll Cure Light Wounds rolls.
With that settled, Charis continued her search all the way east. Whatever was behind this, it had to be stopped.

Grog gladly accepts some healing, "Thankee, I seem ta 'av got a few scratches on account of tha apparition."

She's back at full. Only Carlaya is at 50/60.
While charis and Old Grog are continuing down the main hallway, they are met with a split. Going ahead (south), they are met by a closed double door.
Which Charis will find untrapped.
Alternatively, going to the east, they'll enter a large hall.
Old Grog |
"Letsss try tha hall, eh? Hick!" slurs Grog as he takes a large swig from his canteen full of rum.
Carlaya |
Carlaya gives herself a tap with her wand, closing up a few of her wounds.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
"Yeah, sounds like a plan, my inebriated companion. Let's go!"
Renee le Rapide |
"Large hall! Good change for these cramped corridors! Onwards, mes amies!"
Xeram |
Four heavy columns support the roof in this 45 x 30 feet hall.
Braziers contain smoldering remains, giving it a dim illumination.
An old rug presents passage ahead and to a more narrow turn to the right.
(South for you)
When 4 of you enter, you notice something on the northern wall.
There hangs a large painting, depicting a peculiar sight.
A swinging road, leading up a mountain top in -S- bends, where a large double door gate is located.
The sky is the dark of night, with several stars and dark clouds decorating it.
A light glow is depicted illuminating the gate, as if in reverence.
A few pieces of scattered dusty furniture, suggest this could have been used as a quick gathering hall.
On the south are 3 mirrors, their frames of an old style. Pretty, but old.
Carlaya, did you know large sized constrictor snakes have 5 feet reach?
The Maiden of Jewels |
Charis covers her eyes and looks away from the mirrors. "Ugh, I hate mirrorss." She seems to hiss before looking down the corridor.
"Let's keep going east."
She takes a look around the room once more, spending an uncomfortably long time in front of the mirrors before repelling away from them. Once that's over, she continues searching for traps around the corner.

She spends a bit too long glaring at her reflection. It's beautiful, yet mysterious... she has to pull herself away.
Renee le Rapide |
"I wonder if we just should leave the mirrors alone. I know mademoiselle Charis is a pretty one, but she spent a bit too long staring at herself there.."
Old Grog |
Grog nods and rubles, "Aye, right ye are." He stumbles over to the southern exit from the hall and inspects the floor and ceilings.
