The D is ALWAYS a good idea!

The performance makes kobold blood hot and as the odds quickly tilt towards the Sewer Dragons!

Round 1:

Fazgyn: Hit
Engashez: Greatest Song in the World tribute
Pethjun: Kill

Varanog sends two Magic Missiles at the yellow enemy.

MM: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8

Giantslayer | Skull & Shackles |

In true kobold fashion, Varanog doubles up on the injured man. His missiles strike him in the chest, and he too drops dead!

Despite the overwhelming advantage of your team, the two remaining "men" fight on!

Sorry for delaying you today DMS I thought I had posted my action for turn 2, it seems it didn't got through.

Shirt? Tunic? Dress? Why can't humans just use a cloak or armor? Stupid softfleshes.

Skyrahk casts doom on the bearded man in the blue shirt. DC 14

"O Mighty Dahak stop this pink one in his tracks, so we can properly main him!"

She then moves into the crack in the stone wall behind her. Do the small kobolds need to squeeze in there? I'll move half-speed while waiting for the answer, that 1 square might be relevant next turn =P

Giantslayer | Skull & Shackles |

None needed. The weather here is pretty bad, putting off my time away a bit. We should still pull this off.

Will: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9 The man shudders in response to the magic. The cursed man steps to the side a bit before lunging with his dagger ATK: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 - 2 = 9, but gets only air.

The remaining foe abandons the long game, "It's too late! In less than an hours we'll pour forth from the gate and kill you all!!!" He adds a dagger thrust of his own at Pethjun ATK: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 ATK: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 for DMG: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Hats responds in kind, "YOU LEAVE MY FRIENDS ALONE!" A noodly appendage attacks that very same man ATK: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11, but misses.

A trio of tentacles snake forward after the doomed foe
Left: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 for DMG: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Middle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Right: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

The lone tentacle to hit snaps the man's neck. With no allies remaining the final man signals his willingness to die, "You are in your final minutes!"

"And you, your final seconds!" Fazgyn quips as he draws a second sword and steps forward, slashing quickly and viciously.

Atk. +1 shortsword: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Dmg. Piercing (magic): 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Edit: Stupidly did a full-round action after drawing. Fixed now. ;)

Giantslayer | Skull & Shackles |

Fazgyn's blade make quick work of the man. And with that the caves go quiet...

Carefully the kobolds turn the final corner. This chamber widens to become twenty-five feet across and twenty feet long. A foot-tall semicircular dais rests in the eastern end of the room. Atop the dais is a structure comprising a duo of black metallic rods connected by a series of inch-thick gray metal shafts, making it resemble a squat ladder whose steps are far too close together to be usable.

Indeed, the portal looks like it's powering up somehow. The warning by the man before he died wasn't a bluff.

You are tough and fierce kobolds, but who knows what's coming through the gate. Fortunately for you, you're masters at trapmaking...

Sometimes the game is best served by breaking immersion in order to preserve immersion. Trying to explain all this in character would be tedious at best. By laying out the mechanics and plan, I find that fun is preserved, and expectations are met. There's nothing worse than finding out after it's too late that the DM and players aren't on the same page.

Reinforcements are on their way! You have about half an hour before renegade elements of the Blakros family and their allies arrive to reinforce the portal. As kobolds, you are skilled in the crafting of traps, and this time gives you ample opportunity to craft traps to vex your enemies. A list of kobold traps is provided HERE; this list details information on construction and activation of the traps presented. The time you have to prepare is broken into 5 phases that are each about 6 minutes long. During each phase, you can craft one trap, unless the trap requires more than 1 phase to construct, in which case you continue construction into the ensuing phases. Each phase represents roughly 6 minutes of time. You can take 10 on these checks, but cannot take 20 due to the somewhat rushed nature of your defense.

Succeeding at the necessary Craft (traps) check creates the desired trap, placing it in a location available on the map based on the trap’s size. Simply copy the token in the hand out and place it on the map. In addition, unless the trap has a special note, there is no cost to create a trap! If you fail by 5 or fewer, the trap still functions.... mostly. Simply make a note on the trap icon.

Since I'll be AFK for a few days, this is the perfect time to check in and do your thing. I ask that when you post, you simply update the breakdown.

Due to the timing of this scene, and the nature of PbP, I won't progress in phase-by-phase order. Everyone can just execute. So that no one has to format a wall of text, I've left the blank template for this post HERE

Fazgyn whistles happily to himself as he starts rushing around the tunnels, sprucing them up with his favourite decorations. As a finishing touch, he retrieves a banged up ventriloquist's dummy from his pack and sits it in front of the entrance. The creepy thing just sits there with its mouth half open, and the trap master gets to work inserting an arrow that'll shoot out of its chest when the time is right. Finally he places a sign in its hands, hiding some of the mechanisms. The writing is too small to read unless standing very close and it simply reads: made you look!

  • With a sigh, Engashez realizes that she's going to be on her own as the other Sewer Dragons begin spreading out to work on crafting their own traps. Noting that so far they seem to have plenty of arrow and dart traps, she decides to see if she can rig up some swinging axes...

Awesome! Will get to this today.

@Everyone: Sorry for going AWOL on you, my home PC decided to break down and I was slammed at work so couldn't post from there either, but I'm back now =)

Skyrahk moves ahead of Hats, pulls out a wand and her scales change color to become more similar to the rocks surrounding the Sewer Dragons.

"Hats! When the pink ones come closer, I'll turn you invisible so you can spring some SURPRISE DESTRUCTION on them."

Move action and Swift to activate Chameleon Aspect. She'll ready to cast Invisibility on Hats when she sees the Good Guys(? >.>). (If I can't draw the wand with the movement, that's ok)

"Ooh yes, good thinking Skyrahk," Engashez smiles gleefully. "Go forth, Brave Hats, and unleash supreme surprise destruction on the puny pinkskins!"

    Giantslayer | Skull & Shackles |

    I'll allow wand on movement.

The Blakros minions step into the room, one side steps the trap, but two walk right into it!

    Grey: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 MISS
    Blue: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 for DMG: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
    Red: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 for DMG: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Two of the men scream as the tops of their heads are sliced open by an axe!

    Round 2:
    Athrax: Go
    Skyrahk: Go
    Engashez: Go
    Fazgin: Go
    Pethjun: Go

    Blakros Team: Get'em!

Fazgyn hides out in the tunnels, snickering at the wonderful sounds of traps being triggered. He fades into the shadows, just hoping that he gets a hilarious view of someone falling into a pit.

    Stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31

Basically just waiting until they get close now. :)

The tension could be cut with a kobold axe trap as kobold and human inch closer!

    Round 2:

    Fazgin: Sneaky

"No no no no no, by Dahak I almost forgot!" Syrahk drops the wand to her feet and pulls out a long parchment, or long in the tiny hands of a kobold, she begins chanting a spell.

BLESS: Bless fills your allies with courage. Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects.

Also, can we see from this corridor into the, currently in use, entrance?

Skyrahk provides a bit of a boost for the kobold team as the humans close!

    Round 2:

As most of the other Sewer Dragons inch forward, Engashez holds her position as she cranes her neck to watch the passage that Fazgyn had disappeared down. One scaled hand slips into her pack and pulls out a small scroll...
    _______

Engashez holds her position and draws her scroll of Haste - but doesn't use it yet.

Antrax smiles as his traps work. "Come on more traps." he whispers. He pulls out and drinks his potion of spider climb.

Staying where I am, but drinking a potion.

    Giantslayer | Skull & Shackles |

The kobolds hold the line, letting the traps work for them. The Blakros continue to close in.

    Round 2:
    Athrax: Go
    Skyrahk: Go

Skyrahk picks her wand from the floor, and says to the otyugh "Hats, I'll now make you invisible, NOT INVINCIBLE, make sure to surprise as many of them as you can with your might". The kobold then casts Invisibility on Hats.

Hats: Invisivility 40 rounds left. Bless: 40 39 rounds left.

As the sounds of the soft skins gets further away, Fazgyn curses and kicks a pebble in frustration. He then hobbles towards the now invincible Hats, complaining all the way about how the stupid surface dwellers made him stub his toe.

Double move, no longer stealthy :)

    ”Athrax” | Male LE Small Kobold alchemist (alchemical trapper) 4 | HP 22/29 | AC 15, T 14, FF 12 | CMD 14 | F +6 R +8 W +2; +2 vs. paralysis, poison, and sleep | Init +3 | Perc +9, Darkvision | Speed 30ft | Bombs 6/9 | Extracts 1st 4/4 2nd 2/2 | Mutagen 0/1 Active Conditions: Light sensitivity.

Antrax waits cackling to himself as the softies approach.

Engashez tenses as Hats continues to make a lot of noise, but cheers herself with the hopes that it'll just mean the incoming pink-skins won't notice her and the other Sewer Dragons.

    For now, she waits.

The invisible Otyugh moves towards the enemy, looking for some fun.

The men in the lead seem hesitant, but the man behind them pushes them with threats. Unfortunately for them, they walk right into the pit:

    Red: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4 for DMG: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
    Blue: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11 for DMG: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6

Neither man dies, but both scream in pain. Hats giggles.

Skyrahk moves into the northern cracks, slowly creeping towards the enemies, waiting for the best time to channel Dahak's destructive powers.

Two move actions, although I couldn't move as accurately as I wanted, using phone.
