Jeydahvu |
Jeydahvu enters bloodrage and he immediately becomes more rock-like in appearance, with jagged edges to his features and spiky protrusions all over his body (free action). He activates elemental strikes as a swift action and moves to the big snake to attack (move action + standard):
Greatsword with Bloodrage, Elemental Strikes, Power Attack and Axe to Grind: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 for 2d6 + 7 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6) + 7 + 3 + 1 = 18 slashing damage and 1d6 ⇒ 4 acid damage.
someone please put my PC's avatar on the map by the big snake; can't do it from this computer at the moment...
Dungeon Master S |
I've moved you.
Jeydavhu's reaction is quicker than the snake and the oread's sword leads his charge. In the blink of an eye the king cobra's head falls from his body! The wound sizzles with acid. The porters give a cheer, though the elephant is still in danger.
Round 1:

Amun-Heth: Go

Traceni: TBD

Amun-Heth |
Amun-Heth has no dislike for snakes, but as a native Osiriani, he has great respect for their deadly nature. Mostly, he is concerned about being trampled by the elephant. He lashes out at the snakes with a pair of lightning-fast kicks.
Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 121d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Barl Kestad |

Barl swings his warhammer at the black snake.
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Dungeon Master S |
Despite his best efforts, Amun-Heth misses on the first attack and stomps hard on the second one, accidentally killing it.

Haska O'Wydroe |
I moved to the east side of the elephant. Then I read Barl's post. I was trying to get a clear line at the snakes.
"Does anyone know if these snakes are poisonous?" "Well lets hope they are flamable."
Haska moves south and east to get a clear line at the area behind the snake line. He quickly mixes a something up and hurls it at the opening. Aiming a bomb at the space behind the center snake.
bomb attack at space, with pbs}: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
damage will be minimum splash (4 or 2 with DC13 reflex save)
Haska O'Wydroe |
I will move Barl to in front of the yellow snake? That seems to match his request though I see no black snake. If he was already moved I apologize for confusing things. Wait, nevermind, the black snake must have been in the path by Amen-Heth, Barl and Jeyda. Okay I am now caught up. Sorry, you all already dispatched the large snake.
Dungeon Master S |
In my impatience I placed your minis, so I don't mind the rearrangement. I missed Barl's post, sorry about that. Going to resolve as logically as I can. Amun-Heth's masterful swing killed the major threat.
Barl's warhammer makes short work of the snake close by, and before he can even shake the snake's head from the hammer's head, Haska hits the other two with a bomb, the splash being too much for the remaining snake.
The elephant is easy to calm once the serpents are gone.
Both the Baron and the Count seem impressed, "Such might and initiative!" says the Baron, "That's one way to save the elephant!" says the count.
The mood after is markedly lighter, even as the jungle gets denser.
Dungeon Master S |
A few hours after your encounter with the snake, you reach a place where a small stream crosses the trail. Baron Rudyahm speaks up with a different tone of voice than you are used to, "THIS. This is the stream we were following when the tiger ambushed us 5 years ago. This is where we should break off from the trail to find the tiger’s territory."
Count Matsanda speaks up, "This is your hunt to make Baron. Take the Pathfinders with you, and I'll take the porters take the elephant half a day farther down the trail to the hunting lodge outpost. Good Luck."
I'm having a bit of trouble extracting the map, and I have to go to a conference today. You're about to hunt in the deep jungle. Make small talk with the Baron, cast spells, prepare. I'll post when able later today.
Traceni Skrit |
Traceni breathes in the air. "It's quite refreshing out here. Invigorating. We should be able to hunt down your quarry quite easily."
Taking 10 on Survival for a 15, to predict the weather for the rest of the day. Will do the same as we travel to avoid quicksand and other natural hazards.
I have nothing to cast in advance. I do have a scroll of endure elements I could use if necessary.
Jeydahvu |
Jeydahvu keeps his sling handy to try snagging a bird, snake or rodent, and keeps an eye out for freshwater sources.

Jeydahvu |
Jeydahvu hands a recently downed pheasant to Baied. "Everyone has important skills. The healer is the most important member of a tribe. To preserve life is the most sacred of duties. Let us worry about the rest. Here, take this plump bird for supper later. I will try to catch more for the others." Jeydahvu bows his head to Baied and returns to the trees for more game.
Traceni Skrit |
It looks like between Jeydahvu and myself, we can keep all seven of us fed without issue.
As Jeydahvu heads out for more game, Traceni approaches Baied, with a slightly matronly chuckle. "Left with a bird? Here, I can get it ready for cooking for us. Plucking a bird is not delicate on the hands."
She accepts the pheasant and takes a few steps away. "You might want to stand back. They get a little... enthusiastic."
She holds up the poultry, and with a sudden violent woosh, feathers start flying in all directions. The air around Traceni fills with down and soft laughter. A few minutes later, it all settles, and the bird is plucked clean.
"There!" Traceni proclaims. "All ready for the spit." She seems not to notice the feathers in her hair or clothes.
Dungeon Master S |
Traceni and Jeydahvu work together, showing off why Valsin okayed them for the mission. The other members fair well too as you trek into the deepest parts of the jungle.
The jungle opens up into a wide grassy clearing bisected by a shallow, burbling stream. In the center of the clearing lies the partially eaten carcass of a gaur. Its throat has been torn open, and the grass all around the dead bison is covered in dried, sticky blood.
The Baron checks out the bison, "This is where we should set up the ambush for the tiger. This kill is fresh, which means the tiger will likely return to finish its meal later tonight."
He looks about and sees tracks, "See these are antelope tracks, they must have fled with such a monster close by! Do you feel it? This is what it means to be alive."
Those are no antelope tracks. Those are the tracks of some kind of leucrotta! Leucrotta are freakish beasts with the head of a badger, the hooves of a stag, and a wide mouth with sharp ridges of bone instead of teeth. You can ask me any 1 question +1 per 5 over the DC you rolled.
The aging hunter instructs you on how to set up machans—a type of portable hunter’s blind—in the trees around the clearing. The machans are to be mounted 20 feet up in the lower branches of the trees and camouflaged by branches and leaves. A machan can hold up to three of you comfortably, though it is not sturdy enough to provide effective cover. Once the machans are in place, the baron directs you to climb into the machans and wait for the tiger to return. He warns the group that they should avoid descending once night falls, "lest you wish to come face to face with the angry tiger in the dark."
Haska O'Wydroe |
Haska looks at the machan and climbs up. he places his pack up in the tree surrounding the platform.
"This could work nicely. What are we doing for light tonight? What is our plan of attack?" He asks to the group and Baron in general. The rapid questions being a sign of his nervousness.
He gets his sling ready as a back up and keeps his bomb material and extracts and mutagen close.

Haska knows that with the moon gibbous, the field will be low light.
"We wait. We wait and stay ready. When the beast comes back it shouldn't be long after dark. We're all in. Use what you've got."
Barl Kestad |
Barl is leery of climbing into the machan but compared to being on the ground with the tiger, hanging from the tree doesn't seem so bad. He climbs in and readies his crossbow to fire when the tiger shows up.

Dungeon Master S |
Yes you can attack from here (ranged of course.) Barl, you can also ask one question about the creature's stats or abilities.
-----
About an hour after the sun goes down, you settle in to waiting for the tiger... or leucrotta.
You hear something approach...
It's somehwat crashing through the jungle...
and that's when the whole hunt seems to go sideways. You hear a voice from the jungle. It's the Count! "Help! Help me please! We were ambushed! I... I'm the only survivor! Baron! Father-in-law! Please! Come help me, I'm bleeding. It's... It's bad!"
To make resolving this via PbP easier, please everyone roll both a Perception check and a Will save.

Barl, Amun-Heth, and Jaydahvu: You can see the source! It's not the count its a leucrotta! You catch sight of it, and have a surprise round.
It's words are intoxicating. You want to come down and "help". Those who see the source are automatically immune, for certainly it's not the Count!

Amon-Heth leaps into action! You were 20' up, so I'll assume Taking 10 to drop the end, and you're okay, but I moved you back a bit.
The mimicking beast closes in a flash. He waits, a predator, at the bole of the tree. He's clearly ready to take out the baron as soon as he gets closer...
As you break into action, Traceni, you need to help the Baron save the Count! Amun-Heth would have fallen for it had he not seen the beast. Traceni, you need to double move towards the beast. (All is not lost, the lure was specific, so you'll get a chance to engage I think.)

Baied takes a defensive posture, granting Abadar's divine protection.
The Baron is utterly heedless of the danger, and immediately begins to climb down. When he jumps down, the leucrotta lashes out with razor teeth. ATK: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 and clamps down on the baron's leg eliciting a howl of pain. DMG: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 and CMB: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23 sweeping him off his feet.

Haska with a surge of chaos that comes from too many polite conversations and tactful compromises lets it rule his thoughts. He sees his target below and thinks the best way to help is to destroy in the quickest way possible. He pulls his inert wad and adds the reactant hurling the result at far end of the creature now standing over the Baron.
"Light and fire are the thing for this." he mumbles as he smiles wickedly.

Jeydahvu |
@GM: how would you houserule Jeydahvu jumping down the tree and doing overhand chop with greatsword?
Dungeon Master S |
Well, it's a 20' drop. I'd let you call it a "charge". Acrobatics check to lesson the blow, but it's 20' so you'll still take 1d6 even if passed. I'll give you an extra d6 damage too per "falling object."

Dungeon Master S |
Amun-Heth tries to circle around into position, bringing him dangerously close to the the leucrotta AoO: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 for DMG: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8. Teeth tear into the monk's flesh, but he stays up, albeit not by much.

Falls onto yielding surfaces (soft ground, mud) also convert the first 1d6 of damage to nonlethal damage. This reduction is cumulative with reduced damage due to deliberate jumps and the Acrobatics skill."
@GM: please confirm I got this right:
--> deliberately jumping: first 10 feet is 1d6 nonlethal
--> soft ground (jungle): second 10 feet is 1d6 nonlethal too?
--> if I make Acrobatics DC 15 (unlikely): total is 1d6 nonlethal as I ignore first 10 feet?
Jeydahvu roars in defiance, his skin exploding with rocky protrusions, and then leaps from the tree drawing his sword as he attempts to cleave the leucrotta in two!
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (6) - 3 = 3 for 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + (6) = 9 nonlethal damage (ignore second d6 if Acrobatics is higher than 15)
Greatsword with Bloodrage, Elemental Strikes, Power Attack and Charge (incl. falling object 1d6 dmg): 1d20 + 6 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 6 - 1 + 2 = 22 for 2d6 + 7 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 7 + 3 + (4) = 21 slashing damage and 1d6 ⇒ 6 acid damage.
"Oomph!!" groans Jeydahvu, as he unceremoniously smashes his face into the leucrotta's spine as he completes his descent!
Dungeon Master S |
Jeydahvu leaps from the tree. The swing with the blade is enough to behead a horse! This beast is made of sterner stuff though, it's muscles like dwarven cable. Nevertheless, blood erupts over the Baron, "What treachery is this?" IT appears that the baron is reaching for an exotic weapon of Alkenstar make. The leucrotta is barely alive after the sword blow, but alive all the same.
