The bite opens a gaping hole in Ko's thigh. He feels his life's blood pulse into the water's inky blackness. His vision ebbs like the tides lapping around him. Kiltem's battle cry echoes in the distance. He expects this moment, the moment of his death, to yield some revelation. Not finding it, he knows...this is not his end. Ko smiles at the beast, awaiting its death, and his salvation.

Kiltem Stormcrow |
The druid futilely swims after the injured creature his predator instincts wanting to hone in on the kill. He stops after a few strokes, Bleeding Besmarra!
The moment gone Kiltem goes over to help with the injured Ko. I wasnt sure if you were going to make it. Im glad you were able to jam your blade to the hilt in it’s rubbery hide.

Kiltem addresses the group. That devil fish went that way he gestures toward the north west passage. Shall we pursue? Or head this way? he points to the south west tunnel.
The druid isnt so sure they should bother chasing. The damned fish can outswim them...
Arthur Cantor Delgado |
Let's keep moving. Pursuing a fish in water is like...pursuing a fish in water! We need to find Sandara.
Kiltem Stormcrow |
Let's keep moving. Pursuing a fish in water is like...pursuing a fish in water! We need to find Sandara.
Kiltem nods at the wise words. He and Lucky lead the group into the southwest passage.
DM can we still touch the bottom? or are we swimming?
Dungeon Master S |
In this area, you can touch the bottom, except for Slappy, who must swim. The walls of this small cavern display strangely ribbed markings.
The seaweed on the floor of this area is actually resting on bars, as if you're standing on a cage.
Kiltem Stormcrow |
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
The druid notices the strange floor and points it out to the others.
So we are walking on stone/rocks/mud/sand at all? Or are bars on top of that? Please explain?
Dungeon Master S |
Kiltem sees that the floor drops away to a deeper floor blow. You're currently (in this room only) walking across something like a sewer grate...
Harisko "Ko" |
Ko gives his allies a grateful hug, his long arms engulfing each in turn. All save Kiltem, whose nearly as wide as Ko is tall.
Ko investigates the floor, looking for a doorway, latch or removable grate.

Ko dives down a bit, and sees that it's only the weight of water and seaweed that's keeping the bars in place. As he gives them a test tug, he can-
WE'LL SWALLOW YOUR SOUL! A rotting hand reaches up and 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 - 2 = 14 tries unsuccessfully to to grab the big man. Thankfully their reach is too short to grab someone treading water...
Ko thinks a concerted effort would open the bars, but the water undead below will be released if you do.

Kiltem and Lucky lead the party on. The druid probes the ground with his spear, careful to avoid undead grates. Rogue and druid check out the alcove while the others stand watch.

Answering Ko's Slack question: No there's no above water place to brace, but with the group bracing on the sides you could do it. I marked it on the map in case you return to it. I also revealed a bit more map.
The paths forward split into opposite directions.
"Lucky" Lucas D'Endrin |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Could a cleric bless the environmental water here and sort of holy deep-fry them?
Dungeon Master S |
There are actually rules on this. Short answer is no. Longer answer is that channeling through the water still works.

The pirates make their way through the caves, ready for anything else to surprise them. After a quick circuit, it appears that there's but one remaining place to look for Sandara...
Map updated.
"Lucky" Lucas D'Endrin |
Lucky polls the group for any wounds and suggests healing for anything that might be ailing his mates. "Does anyone want to buff themselves prior to advancing?" (Insert Retcon Here)
He carefully swims toward the ominous central chamber of the cave complex, watching and listening for traps or enemies.
Dungeon Master S |
It's a little bit of both to get there.
Lucky finally lives up to his namesake. He catches movement in the water beyond the motion of the tide... There's something there, and it's big, though it'd be a big risk to swim to an angle with line of sight.
"Lucky" Lucas D'Endrin |
No idea what it might be?

Based on sound alone, there's no way even the erudite druid can identify the source.
