William makes a solid cut, but the brigand still stands, albeit barely. Meanwhile The Agent takes a risky shot that misses, AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 but the brigand can't capitalize on the unexpected opening.
Green makes a swipe at Guntir before stepping towards Du Moire Atk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 MISS.
Red redoubles against the Agent Atk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 DMG: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Without a route of escape, Du Moire enters melee, swinging twice savegely against the Friar: Atk 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 Atk 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8, but both miss.

Still unable to use his magic without targeting his comrades, D'Lack tried to shoot Du Moire, hoping his fall will result in his men surrending.
He moved on top of The Agent on the map to have nobody in the way and have a clear shoot at the Pirate.
Heavy Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8

The Friar goes for Du Moire's legs, but the pirate manages to JUST BARELY slip the halfling's grab. Meanwhile D'Lack also misses with his shot.
I forgot Makindi. I'm assuming he'll rage and swing his sword. He moves in on green and swings with a fierce battle cry. ATK: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 DMG: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13 and he kills the man with a single swing!

Before I signed in I was thinking I would grapple or aid a grapple next... Guntir knows we need to speak with Du Moire and would rather him go before the law anyway.
If it's not too late I'd like to aid Huck. Otherwise Guntir will try himself.
Guntir steps up and joins the Huck/Du Moire wrestling match.

The Guntir and Huck tabletop technique is too much for the pirate. He goes down in a tangle of arms and legs.
OUT OF COMBAT (unless you'd rather just kill him.)
"PLEASE there's no need to kill me. I'll cooperate! Tarn, lay down your blade, we surrender!"
Du Moire's rough exterior crumbles now that he is so outmatched.
"Please whatever it is, I'll give it back, just don't kill me."
Dungeon Master S |
"You're ummmm.... welcome to them.... It's just that ahhh.... well, they're down below. I'm pretty sure I know which tablets they are... They've ummmm.... yeah. they're below."
Dungeon Master S |
D'Lack, you're pretty sure that he's hiding additional information about what's below.
Guntir Mithralfist |
"A'right Du Moire. You lead us right to them. Dinnae be worryin'. Justice shall be findin' ye one way or t' other. I'll be right a'hine ye to lop yer head off iffen you make a wrong move."

"Man, I don't know what a lacedon is, but if it's some sort of oversized lizard, I don't think Guntir or Makindi are gonna have a problem taming it..."
The Agent is ready to follow folks down.

And you expect us to leave you up here while we go below, do ye? Guntir rumbles out. No. You should o' surrendered earlier, lad. We take your ship to the port authorities and drop you off with the Chelaxian Marines, then we rouse out the tablets, or you lead us into the hold to recover them and then we decide what to do with you and your bloody Pirate ship.
Dungeon Master S |
Denouement to follow tonight.... ;-)
Will Hawk |
"He must not be too afraid of the beastees, as he was certainly making way for that hold when we boarded. Still, I have no wish to be fighting them and him at the same time. Let's lash the muscle to the mast, fasten Du Moire's hands behind his back, disarm him, and let him lead the way."
"As far as what to do with the ship, I am always in the market, as it were..."
"Before we get started, tell us everything you know about what we are facing. Mind you - don't lie to us, or it will go worst for you after."
Dungeon Master S |
Du Moire looks at the Pathfinders before him. "They're undead, and nasty. Look, you've got me. I'll take my chances in prison."
Below decks, the dimly-lit hold has taken on a foot of brackish bilge water, and clammy air laps against your skin. The sole light emanates from a small whale-oil lamp mounted on the lower mast. The cavernous hollow contains dozens of water-damaged crates roped in neat stacks secured tightly to the sidewalls. The remaining portion of the hold is set up like a common room with hammocks, an open larder, and a small kitchen where food is prepared. The accommodations appear radically stripped down, presumably to make room for contraband or increased speed. Toward the bow, loud banging echoes from a wooden door, sodden and swelled shut and held fast with thick black chains.
Du Moire leads you towards the bow. There he points to the thudding wall, "Inside are 8 ghouls and the treasure. There's no way out. For them." He motions to The Agent, "If that man in the awful attire can bring more of the Dreamweaver's power through here, you'll have what you seek. Just keep that in mind when giving your statement to the port authorities..."
By defeating the captain of Hydra’s Fang and providing positive evidence of Du Moire’s defeat, the Pathfinder Society receives the rewards and blessings of the Chelish and Andoren embassies for saving their home countries from entering into what was sure to be a bloody war. Regardless of their public display, the two countries remain at brutal odds. Not that any such politicking matters much to the Pathfinder Society, which is only pleased that its operatives succeeded in getting the tablets. Your fame and prestige within the organization grows, moreso by bringing in the notorious pirate in for justice. Having an artifact thief put out of commission is a step in the right direction.
With that you can report to the Venture Captain. Well done Pathfinders! Good chemistry and flavorful characters. I'll get chronicles out to you tomorrow. I should also have everything reported by tomorrow night. Feel free to post Day Jobs!
The Agent |
"Hey, did he just say something about my robes?"
The Agent tightens the soft fuzzy band keeping his nightrobes in place and smooths some of his facial hair before peeking in at the groaning mass within.
"Now stand back, I haven't exactly done this before..."

There we go! I know the scenario's been already called, but hey. :)
The Agent twists his expression in shock.
"Whoa, that's like serious power unleashed here. Way to go Song of the Spheres!"
Holding his hand up for a moment, the Agent tucks it back into his robes when it is not met with a hearty high-five.
Thanks for running, GM!
Dungeon Master S |
My pleasure! Now that all is said and done I've got to go watch me some Lebowski. Very cool idea for a character.
I need PFS numbers from people though. Post when you can!

Friar Huck nods and smiles at Du Moire. "I'm glad you chose to cooperate. Shelyn's blessings upon you. And now the Society can research this artifact; hopefully it proves useful."
Thanks GM! Lots of fun!

Thanks, GM! Nice run - it was fun.

Day job: Um, I'm a pirate - don't need no stinkin' day job!
For Liberty's Edge faction card, would this qualify for Defeat a known slaver... I am not sure if Undead count as creatures, in this case, but they were clearly being held against their preference!
Dungeon Master S |
Yes, I would officially back this as a known slaver. He's listed as such in the module.
Guntir Mithralfist |
ooh, this took place outside of Absalom, right? I could check that box instead!

Dungeon Master S |
It was still the Isle of Kortos, but yes it was outside the city.
IMPORTANT
I'll be turning this to inactive by midnight tonight. I've sent Makindi a PM, but if you guys need me for anything, please feel free to message me. I'll be recruiting for another CORE game in early June. Keep your eyes peeled on the Lodge page.
Will Hawk |
Cool, thanks!
Also, as an FYI, I will be recruiting for a new game soon. I will probably run both a CORE and a OPS table simultaneously. Not sure which scenario yet (so if you have a preference, let me know - I do generally only run modules I have played at least once before).
I plan to send out a call this week, but probably won't start for another week or two.
Guntir Mithralfist |
I've heard Frostfur Captives is good.
-Posted with Wayfinder
Will Hawk |
Frostfur was good - I think that was my first PFS play. I will have to look into that one. I already own Mists of Mwangi and Black Waters, though (there was a sale one day so I grabbed the ones I had already played), so I may do one of those next.
Mists was more fun, Black Waters was just creepy. :)
