Raen's attention veers from her spell just enough to sense the flow of the fight changing. She throws her conjured creature north instead of south.

The small mountain of rock weaves between Applejack's legs to smash into the remaining beast. Or try, anyway.

The elemental brings a stony head into the leucrotta's retreating butt.

The Leucrotta dodges the lance as well, bounding into the forest.

For killing and driving off the leucrottas, each hero earns 535 XP.

By the time the battle is done, and the chase is given up, you find yourselves in the valley.

While the valley makes travel reasonably easy, it helps having a mountain ranger with you. Hamilton, barring severe weather, can guide the party without a roll. You can move the length of the line in a single day without making things difficult for yourselves. You can push, but risk fatiguing yourself.

After a short midday meal, the Heroes of Trunau find themselves at an intersection... 4 hours remaining

WP converses with Ham for a moment. He advises travelling with the river. A large group of giants drink a lot of water. They have to be near the river somewhere.

Raen shrugs, and begins drawing a map for orienteering.

Vael lets the soldiering types lead the way, providing his own advice at appropriate moments.

Continuing on past the leucrottas, the party walks until it's time for a dinner break. The dusty path eases down a gentle slope littered with small boulders. Jagged gray mountains rise on all sides, their peaks resembling the broken jaw of a fallen god. On the surrounding slopes, small copses of fir trees cling desperately to patches of rocky soil, their exposed roots tenaciously grasping the earth in knotted tangles.

As the conversation turns to whether or not it's worth it to press on

Ham activates his cloak and rides out into the middle of the pass and motions for the others to hide and get ready.

Raen hisses and gathers the group, bathing them in a weaved glamer. Invis Sphere. Mirror Image too as per Slack.

Ham, smiling, whispers back to Raen, Oh, lighten up.

Ham takes up a position in the middle of things as Raen makes the rest vanish.

Vael does some of his own preparations, chanting for a few seconds to bolster himself and his friends.

From around the corner you hear footfalls. It doesn't match a pair of giants though. It's??? What???

Oh boy...

It's one giant. This lumbering, filthy, two-headed giant wears tattered remnants of leather armor and clutches a large flail in each fist. With it/them is a cave bear, and a mean one at that!

Doxon will use Fervor to swift cast Iron Skin.

He then advances and swings Agrimmosh at the ettin.

WP seeing the giants and instinctively goes for him/them. The sling flies around his head like an angry hornet. Lashing out at the best with a {CRACK!} {CRACK!}

Whistle pig breaks both noses of the ettin. The shower of blood provides a bright red target for Hamilton. The mounted warrior drives the Heartspit into the ettin's chest. The barbed tip bursts out the back!

The ettin drops dead, but the bear fights on. A shadow of something overhead temporarily darkens the bear's red eyes, giving it an even more frightening look than normal.

It sniffs its way towards Odd is Doxon: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Doxon and tries to pull him in for a literal bear hug:

It then tries to pull him in. Grab: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (4) + 19 = 23 and gets the dwarf wrapped up!

Vael moves forward, drawing his trusty spear. Seeing Doxon tangled up with the bear, the shaman calls upon the Spirits of Heaven to pull his friend from the predicament.... and place him opposite the creature with Ushyle.

As quick as he's grabbed, Doxon is free. The bear doesn't understand, but does know that being blind is cause for panic.

Unfortunately, the bear isn't the only creature looking for something to kill...

A dragon comes out of the setting sun and swoops down for a kill. Horns jut from this muscular dragon’s beaked head, and spikes cover the dragon’s hide even in places on its winged arms.

The dragon swoops down and immediately snatches the dead ettin! It's a heavy load though and the drake struggles to take off.

Amazed at how quickly things can change in the heat of battle, Doxon lays in to the bear with hammer and pick.

Ham is unwilling to let this darned lizard make off with his prey. The Ranger in him is roused. He stabs out with Heartspit

The bear regains his sight just as Doxon prepares to counter. The dwarf, unfazed by the cave bear, hits him across the face with AGRIMMOSH.

Hamilton scores a single slight hit, and Applejack gets in a very lucky hit with a hoof! The drake seems.... angry.

Ushyle grins as Dox is rainbowed right out of the bear's embrace and into a tactically sound position. He takes a moment to measure the bear, and a heartbeat to glance at the dragon as well, then swings Milani's Thorn with a vengeance!
