VC Rúmil the Constant |
Sorry, got back from traveling late last night. My posting should be regular until next Monday when I will disappear for five days but I'll send out a reminder post this weekend.
Rúmil watches in stunned silence at the betrayal of the priest, although he had some suspicions before now. With a small twitch his bow flies from his back and into his hand and he aims his arrows at the traitor's heart.... but misses miserably.
Arrows are magic/cold iron/silver/good if it matters.
+3 called frost holy impervious composite longbow flurry of blows: 1d20 + 19 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 19 - 4 = 22

holy damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10
Dungeon Master S |
No worries Rumil! Welcome back.
All of the arrows miss their mark, "See?! Hugo Abadar approves of my undertaking! Yield and join me!"
Despite the offer of another way out of this fight, the priest continues to unload magic. Whatever power Saabira's death gave him seems to be supercharging his every action!
With a flash of his eyes and the key on his neck, he channels to harm the living! It only catches Roakar and the Zelekhut. DMG: 9d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 5, 4, 5, 1, 6, 6) = 36 Will DC 19 for half.
His words form with fire literally dripping from his lips. A storm of unimagineable fire rages through the room, striking all of you. FIRE: 22d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3, 5, 1, 1, 1, 1, 6, 4, 1, 6, 5, 5, 1, 4, 3, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6) = 82 (REF DC 25 for half.) When the flame clears he hops out of this dimension for a moment before appearing deeper in the room.

Hugo Victor |
Assuming he cast defensively vs Aoo from Zelekhut. Or was it like a newly gained SU ability? If not , SR may apply.
The Zelekhut cannot resist the negative energy but dodges the flame.
Hugo takes the full brunt of the fire.
Zelekhut Will : 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 SR 20
Zelekhut Reflex : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 SR 20
Hugo Reflex, word : 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 12 + 2 = 22
zelekhut 38/115 Hugo. 44/116 . Waiting to see if breath of life needed before posting .
Dungeon Master S |
SR does apply, spell he can't fail the check. Dimensional hop doesn't draw.
Hugo Victor |
Ok gotcha. AutoCast defensive, ignored the flames and hopped out. Check :). Looks like we got a live one fellas
Roakar |
Posted these so Hugo could judge action. Will post my turn later.
Will Save vs Channel Negative: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32 Blast you evasion - Half Damage Half Dmg taken: 36 - 18 = 18

VC Rúmil the Constant |
Ref: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (15) + 21 = 36 41 damage taken.
Rúmil, feeling a bit self-conscious about his poor shooting, takes a moment to cast gravity bow and move further into the room.
Dungeon Master S |
Rumil builds a plan instead of rushing forward with more arrows.

Hugo will move and cast communal resist fire on party members he can reach.Self, Roos, Roakar, Rumil
zelekhut 43/115 Hugo. 64/116.
Roakar |
Anyone ever see what the priest did before? I can't think of a single thing that fits what Chris described. I am intrigued.
Chris: Do the stone works surrounding all your yellow boxes go up to the ceiling, blocking movement and line of sight / effect?
Fort save vs communal resist energy: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (9) + 27 = 36 Roakar growls as he feels magic wash over him and he uncontrollably resists it on instinct.
Roos Randermin |
REF vs DC25: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31... 41 damage+20 heal=21 damage taken...60/129 hit points...
Roos moves closer and tries to Fascinate the priest to do nothing but sit and watch the bard...WIL save vs DC18
Dungeon Master S |
They do in fact go to the ceiling (Which is why I couldn't have Haarim go any deeper. Yes, there is some unique stuff happening that even your characters wouldn't likely know :-)
The Zelekhut lashes the priest, but he keeps his feet under him. Hugo helps mitigate the damage. The priest seems to be somehow overloading with energy... Roos, are you using the fascinate Bardic performance? It won't work on a combatant. Feel free to take a different action.

Roakar takes a double move to cut off the high priests escape. My movement will provoke an AoO if he threatens.
Dungeon Master S |
He holds a mace in hand, but seems to be more content holding on and preparing to cast more spells as the energy just oozes from his very being...
Round 2:

Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
I'm still in the field, anywhere from 5-10 more days. I did buy a 1gb internet card though, so I have a little bit on my phone.
I'll just double move straight forward, (left), 60ft, trying to hover 10ft up.
Dungeon Master S |
Glad you seem to be doing well!
"If you leave now, you leave with your lives! This is the best hope you have left!" The cleric continues to absorb some kind of energy, indeed the air around him is rippling with the effect. It only takes him a split second to send a wave of negative energy out:
Swift channel to harm the living, DC 19 for half.
DMG: 8d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 6, 3, 6, 2, 5) = 37
He then tries to quickly put together the words of a spell without letting his guard down: Concentration: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (12) + 21 = 33. Suddenly a whirling wall of blades appear! He then dashes underneath the summoned guardian (drawing AoOs, though he has cover from Roakar) as he moves away.
Round 3:

Assuming only The Zelekhut and Roakar are in the 30' of a normal channel if the priest channels before he moved.
The outsider tries to resist the blast of negative energy, but to no avail, nearly destroying it before it starts to repair itself.

Hugo Victor |
Hugo tries to recall what power is enhancing the priest's abilities.
kn:religion: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 (or +5 if kn:planes helps)
Will delay until after other party members go and result of knowledge check
Rumil, he went behind the column. Let me know if you want me to hop you over for a full, clear shot - as a move would hop Rumil over to see foe...if he desires and as part of Hugo's eventual action, likely a channel to heal.
Dungeon Master S |
Yes, only Roakar and the Zelekhut are within the channel.
The summoned ally lashes the priest, but can't take him down as he moves. Hugo, despite his extensive training, isn't sure what's causing this...
Round 3:
Roos: Go
Roakar: Go

I should be as well,(sorry I can not edit map and I forgot to ask).
Will: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35

Roos Randermin |
If the bipedal foe is only 5 ft up then Roos can attack him normally correct?

Dungeon Master S |
You are correct, unfortunately:
Roos tries to stab the man in the chest, but his armor turns away both thrusts!

VC Rúmil the Constant |
"Nnnn... no thank you, Huge." Rúmil stammers as he moves around the pillar and pulls a single arrow, dabbing a bit of butter on it from his pouch before firing. Can't edit map atm. Move around just enough to see him. Imbuing arrow with grease.
+3 called frost holy impervious composite longbow: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33

cold damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
evil damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8
DC 16 Ref save or fall prone
Dungeon Master S |
Rumil's arrow strikes the man in his unprotected neck. The grease adds insult to the hit, because it is an unconscious and dying man who falls to the ground.
Out of combat.
potion of bear’s endurance, scroll of antilife shell, scroll of heal, scroll of heroes’ feast, +3 full plate, +1 cold iron heavy mace, mwk heavy crossbow, amulet of natural armor +2, headband of inspired wisdom +4, platinum holy symbol of Abadar, ornate key, spell component pouch, eye salve worth 250 gp
potion of cure serious wounds, potion of fly, potion of protection from arrows,+3 mithral breastplate, +2 shock adamantine bardiche, belt of physical might +2 (Dex, Con)
Hugo Victor |
"Agreed. But fortunately those are far and few between."
The holy symbol catches Hugo's eye.
"I better hold onto this lest further sacrilege occur. So now the puzzle: what would cause the head of the city guard and a high priest of Abadar fall in with the criminal element seeking the elixir? They seem to be beyond the need for glorious riches. Power? Or something else?."
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
I'll go ahead and Channel to heal us all a bit. Channel: 7d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 3, 6, 5, 2) = 29
"I am sorry my friend. Though they where not of my faith nor followed not my virtues, it is always painful to see one fall from the way. Still, though, this priest seemed to have kept his gifts, and so I wonder what circimstanes would allow for such a breech without his patron's retribution?"
(Anyone care if I take the scroll of Heroes Feast (and use now?), and Anti life Shell, cold iron heavy mace, refill spell pouches, and hang on to the key? Id say either Rumil or Roos <UMD> take scroll of Heal.)
Roakar |
"Stupid wall, with it's stupid blades."
Rage, Reckless Abandon, Strength Surge, Spell Sunder
Spell Sunder: 1d20 + 31 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 31 + 14 = 64 That roll permanently dispels any spell effect cast from lvl 39 caster or less.
Roakar dispells the wall of annoyance and walks back to his party.
Hugo Victor |
If we find no contract or letter on their persons connecting them to the theft of the elixir, we should search the premises. Perhaps there are a few acolytes still loyal to Abadar who will speak with me and provide clues. Or perhaps a desk or diary in his personal quarters?
Feeling he has full authority to go anywhere in the temple as the highest ranking Abadar clergy, Hugo will perform a quick search through other rooms for clues or staff.
Abadar help us correct the errors of this fallen follower.
Inspiring word for next 6 rounds
Perception T10: 10 + 28 + 2 = 40
Also the Zelekhut will search rooms with True Seeing before it departs in 8 rounds.
If nothing turns up, we should proceed to our second option or check on our three teams in the field. I am not sure what to do with the bodies or reporting to the authorities of the Guard Captain's duplicity. Definitely will need to add this to our standard operating procedures for all Abadar temples and branches.
Dungeon Master S |
The temple within goes much, much deeper...
Hugo and his ally find nothing out of the ordinary here.
VC Rúmil the Constant |
While rifling through the priest's things, Rúmil holds up a key. "D-deeper, and things behind closed d-d-doors are often more interesting."
Rúmil will check the next door for magic before trying the key.
Dungeon Master S |
The door doesn't seem magical, though it is extremely impressive.
Hugo Victor |
Hugo will nod in thanks to Ignatius for the healing.
Deeper into the temple it seems we must explore. But I must conclude my contract with our inevitable ally. Please bid Abadar our thanks.
He turns and bows to the Zelekhut as it is released from his service.
Lead on. But beware there may be further occurrences of treason yet to be found within.
Hugo will head towards the back/lower chambers.
Dungeon Master S |
As Hugo uses the recovered key to open the door, a familiar voice sounds from the air around you, It's Emir Guldis!
“You’ve done well to defeat my valued lieutenants, but I dare say you’re not prepared to face me. Let me provide you with an offer. Retreat from this foolish crusade against me and the elixir I’ve rightfully taken. In return, I shall depart Pashow forevermore. If you require more reason to turn around, know that your descent shall take you below the rioting streets of the city above. Know too that there are certain... structural deficiencies, which if exploited, would be quite terrible for the sheep in the streets. Ask yourself if the price of an elixir is worth so many lives.”
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
If we still have that coin keyed to speak with Farabellus, I'd like to activate it now before I respond to Emir. "Emir
Emir Guldis? I'd ask you that same question, ma'am. Are the elixers worth the cost of so many lives? Surely you can see this has gone too far? It is not too late for you. To do the right thing. End this before there is no turning back."
Dungeon Master S |
I think you did use the key. Also, Emir is a guy :-)
It is Saabira's voice that replies! "Turn back? It is far too late for that Ignatious, Seeker of Flame!"
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
ma'am -> sir
Roakar |
The big dumb barbarian scratches his scalp as he attempts to add up the story so far.
Mumbling he says "Got sent to help Emir keep his elixers, elixers get stollen, follow clues to here, kill Saabira and the priest, Emir now claims he stole the elixer from himself, and now Saabira is back for round two."
Roakar mumbles a little more before saying in a louder voice for the rest of the party. "Are we sure this is Emir?"
VC Rúmil the Constant |
Rúmil shrugs. "It is his v-v-voice, but it seems a ssstrange ruse for him to play. It could be a trick. I think our answer lies b-b-below." The elf linguist checks over his gear and then nods that he is ready to head down to find the answer to the riddle.
Dungeon Master S |
Rumil is ready, Roakar is always ready, what of the rest of you?
VC Rúmil the Constant |
Well, I suppose he should heal up. I don't think that's been done yet unless I missed some channels.
clw: 5d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 1, 6) + 5 = 24
Hugo Victor |
Are we the victim of some insidious joke where the entire city and Society is in on the plot?
Hugo would have tapped CLW once or twice more before we made it this far...but otherwise ready. Also, assuming resist fire is still up on those of us from the first combat, unless it has been over an hour.
clw: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (8, 5) + 2 = 15
He considers his next move with all the high-level players already involved.
I am getting the impression we are being positioned into checkmate and we come out the losers on some larger game
Hugo will see if he can detect any falsehood in Emir.
percept: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (10) + 28 = 38
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
Hugo nods to his allies as to being ready.
This folly needs to cease.
Dungeon Master S |
Hugo: 1d20 ⇒ 8 and 1d20 + 35 ⇒ (3) + 35 = 38 Holy crap! The DC for your PErception was 38. Wasn't expecting anyone to beat it, but I rolled so poorly. You recognize that the voice is illusory, band you detect just the hint of something else... IT's not really his voice, or hers. It's someone mimicing them both.
A staircase descends from the west into this roughly eightyfoot- wide chamber with polished stone floors. A five-foot-deep ravine cracks its way through the center of the room, extending into arterial passages to the north and south. Stalagmites jut from the rough ground of the crevice. The remainder of the chamber stretches to the east but is broken by a second crevasse that leads into a small cave complex. Three ten-by-ten-foot square pillars reach from floor to ceiling, each pulsing with a lambent teal glow.
Need to know about light sources, vision, etc, BEFORE I update the map.
Hugo Victor |
Hugo blinks and squints for a second. He shakes his head at Roakar's question regarding the voices being genuine.
All is not as it seems, who are you...really?
Hugo has low-light vision natually, and dark vision via wayfinder.
He can activate the light from the wayfinder if anyone else needs normal light.
Resist fire/30 is still up on Hugo, Roos, Rumil I believe.
If time allows, he will call an inspiring word on himself before the group enters.
Dungeon Master S |
High Priest Haakim answers, "I am your better. I am the seer of the future, and the holder of the Elixir!"
