"Well, it seems that perhaps Rholf should lead by virtue of his being such a bright young man." Edwin says straight-faced.

And Edwin kicks a little something clanky in the hall.

It seems somebody dropped a coinpurse; it has 30 g.p. in it.

In response to Edwin's pun, Rholf plays along good-naturedly, obviously having heard the joke before... "I'm believe I'm ready" he says while wiping some dirt from his sleeve before continuing, "I look okay? How's my hair?"

heh heh; he finds a gold earring worth 25 gp somebody dropped.

Castiel heads down the hall beside Rholf, then tries the door to the south.

"Yes yes, very funny I'm sure. Let's all have a laugh at silly Alinya talking about torches when she's walking next to one." Alinya is trying hard to be a good sport, but there's still some peevishness coming through in her voice.

Numerous grisly tools of torment decorate this room.....hanging cages, a stretching rack,...a large wooden tank, and a firepit in the middle of the room. To the east, an iron maiden, decorated with the face of a tormented maiden.

A corpse in a tattered guard's uniform is on the rack.
surrounded by hand implements of an unwholesome nature.
A large, bloodstained wicker basket is at the head of the rack.

Larissa says quietly, "You can still use my lantern if you wish."

She finds a silver ring; 20 gp.....

The young girl picks up a ring she spotted behind the leg of the rack. She hands it to Lady Alinya. "I wonder who was wearing jewelry in such a dismal place."

Having found the ring, she looks around the room some more. Maybe the poor guard's identity could be determined...

It's too old and dessicated to see who the guard is or was.

I’m not sure if we’ve officially established the light output of Rholf’s hair – whether or not its really enough to substantially see by.

“Does anyone else find it odd that we keep finding random bags of coins and pieces of jewellery?” Castiel asks, somewhat distracted as he looks around, frowning at the contents of the torture chamber.

"Odd indeed; some whim of the gods, one might imagine. Or the leavings of the richer sort of prisoner."

Alinya looks in the basket at the end of the rack, unafraid of the bloody implements of torture. This dress is already ruined anyway.

Edwin casually pockets the bag of coins.

"Odd? Yes. Entirely unheard of? Not at all. I am reminded of the tales of,... erm, yes, perhaps later."

Edwin moves over to examine the rest of the room thoughtfully.

and Edwin feels the hairs on the back of his neck stand up when he looks at the iron maiden.

And he's sure that it's haunted. With a haunt......

Rholf smiles at Alinya, "Hey, most folk can't seem to get over it. This is a nice change!"

Standing at the door, Rholf looks with disgust at the torture implements. "...Unkind..." Turning his gaze away from them, he begins to survey the rest of the room.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

"Gentlemen, ladies. We are not alone,..." He says casually, nodding at the Iron Maiden. His bow is still held downward, but the tip of the arrow lifts slightly up,...

She whispers, "What do you think it's waiting for?"

"If I were to hazard a guess, which goes against my usual modus operandi, I would say for someone to stick their nose in where it doesn't belong." He says softly.

"Kendra!" Castiel doesn't stop to think how it could be possible, and it seems that something clouds the memory of the discussion of a haunt only seconds before. He begins to charge towards the iron maiden.

Castiel:

I’ll wait for the others to take their actions before going any further with Castiel ... Should we roll for group or individual initiative here? 1d20 ⇒ 4 if so, Cas’s init modifier is +1 ... someone might want to try to stop him before he climbs inside the damned thing ... :-)

They can try to stop you I reckon; 4's kinda low, so.....

"Sir Castiel!" Larissa charges into the room and tries to shove Castiel off-course. She has a suspicion and will avoid looking at the iron maiden, concentrating on the paladin.

Will Save, if necessary 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

CMB, if appropriate 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Ouch. What a particularly inauspicious set of rolls...

Larissa does a pratfall; she's not.....haunted though. Just skins her knees real bad on the stones of the floor.
They seem to have broken bottle glass actually combined into the stones......

If he's capable of acting on his own, Rholf will also try to intervene when Castiel takes off towards the iron maiden. His plan is get there first and slam the lid shut or block Castiel's path if the lid doesn't shut.

Alinya, judging that Castiel is somehow ruled by the haunt and bound on self-harm, thinks quickly. She throws a bottle of holy water, end over end, at the iron maiden. "Perhaps this will break the spell?" Ranged attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21; 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7.

"Careful! You might hit her! I'm coming for you ... my love ..." Castiel appears to direct this last bit at the iron maiden.

"Castiel!" Edwin shouts in a voice of command.

"It's not her! It's a haunt! Speaking of fools rushing in where angels fear to tread,..."

Edwin takes a breath, and begins reciting 'Oppenheim's Ode to Ophelia's Obliviousness'.

Perform: (Oratory) For countersong?; 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

But the immediacy of the moment prevents him from fully preparing, and his recitation, while technically correct, is far from the awe-inspiring recitation it could be,...
