Edwin Drood |
Edwin nods to Aethor in admission of his point.
"Indeed. I have a vial of blanch myself, but confess I did not think to prepare it before hand. I do prefer the elegance of the whip over brute force of blades or missiles, however in light of the guard dogs, and,...whatever this was, I admit that I shall most likely have to forgo elegance for something more suitable to doing damage." He confesses.
"I also still carry the magical short sword, which may prove useful against similar creatures." He reminds the others, drawing back his coat to display said blade hanging low on his right side, like an oversized parrying dagger.
"I shall be more than happy to turn it over to one of you more experienced in melee. I confess that these constructs defy my ability to find weak spots. So far."
Taking Aethor's advice, he pours his one vial of Adamantine blanch in the quiver over 10 arrows, and picks up his bow.
"Ready."
N´Kai Sureblade |
"Let's do this quickly. The count must be here, somewhere. And may need our help."
N'Kai will carefully open the rest of the doors already discovered by the party.
U8 and if there is nothing worth of note V6 and AA6, so as not to leave nothing unexplored in this ground floor. Then we should check the corridor in AA12. A couple of perception rolls for you to use as needed, Heathy.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Edwin Drood |
"Agreed. Slowly but steadily then. Watch above as well as around and below. Be aware of breaks in the patterns, A square tile in an otherwise diamond pattern floor tile for example,..."
Edwin continues reciting things that may be obvious in hind site, but he does so in a upbeat, metered speech pattern, aiding the others in their ability to stay alert, and possibly notice things that they might not otherwise.
Using Bardic/Detective ability, adds +2 to all NON-combat related rolls. :)

Entering AA6,
this opens into a dining room. A fireplace on the north wall is flanked by two suits of armor, holding halberds.
There's a long wood table, with one place made (i.e. forks, spoons, a plate) at the head of the table to the east.
The walls are adorned with paintings; mostly landscapes, of different places in the world. One has some egyptian looking pyramids with a caravan of camels; one has a waterfall; one has some mythological gods doing god stuff in classical style (kinda stuff Michelangelo or El Greco woulda painted if his universe had Pharasma instead o Jesus or Hercules or whatnot). Then there's a few nice vases on pedastals from the Orient.
Whatever else is up with Caromarc, he has pretty decent taste in art you can fathom.
N´Kai Sureblade |
"Whatever happened here, they were not after the Count's possessions. This seems quite nice and tidy. Wouldn't you agree, Mr. Drood??"
N'Kai then approaches to the center of the room and casts a simple spell Detect Magic , focusing on the suits of armor and anything he deems important.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Edwin Drood |
it's like crap like this everywhere. A whole forest worth.
Wow. That is pretty cool, actually.

"Whatever happened here, they were not after the Count's possessions. This seems quite nice and tidy. Wouldn't you agree, Mr. Drood??"
"Hm. HM? Oh, yes, indeed. As you say, quite tidy." Edwin replies absent-mindedly, looking about the room.
"Almost too tidy, considering the state the room should be in if intruders came knocking. IF the guard dogs and whatever-it-was in the closet are any indication. DO mind your step N'kai, don't get too close to those armors. They would be perfect for hiding yet another construct of some kind." Edwin advises sharply.
The detective mutters his own simple magical charm, and peers about the room himself.
Cast Detect Magic, spend first round peering at fireplace and armors. The most obvious things first. :)
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Wow. Crit Stare! Shame it wasn't a staring contest! :)

lol....I ment that for the other game......heh heh.....were all mad here!

[dice=Spellcraft] 1d20+12
none of it is magic.
The halberds, though....both are masterwork. Both are adamantine.
The armor is serviceable masterwork full plate as well.
Aethorduil Faelaiien |
These halberds would be of use... is our priest or anyone else able to use them? I can though I'm a far better archer and more useful in that role
Where are the BSF characters when you need them?!
N´Kai Sureblade |
"I have to side with Aethor on this one. I am running out of spells and we don't have many adamantine arrows left. That could be a problem if we come across more constructs. We should carry the halberds as back-up and give them back to the Count once we find he and Dobitoc are safe"
Aethorduil Faelaiien |
Aethorduil takes one with distaste. He makes a makeshift sling for it so he can drape it over a shoulder, and takes up his bow again.
[b]If anyone else can take the other, it will be helpful.
N´Kai Sureblade |
"I'll take the other if no one else is able to use it, just in case."
With that, N'Kai proceeds to repeat the operation, securing the weapon with a couple of his backpack straps, unless someone else claims it first.
Edwin Drood |
Sorry. Been,... busy. :P
Edwin nods to Larissa.
"We are not common thieves, clearing the house of all it's silver and gold decor. But these golems are notoriously difficult to damage. And I rather doubt that we we have seen the last of them. These weapons may even have been placed here for the count to use in case of trouble. Golems are not infallible, and there are many stories of them turning upon their creators. Seeing as how the count has been kind enough to provide them, we would be rude to refuse the use of them. We will, of course, return them to the count immediately upon discovering that he is alive and well."
"He may even appreciate the acquisition of information regarding how effective such weapons are against his constructs." Edwin adds thoughtfully, and immediately makes a swift notation in his pocket notebook.
Edwin tucks away the notebook, and readies his bow once more.
"After you." He says softly.
Note-Edwin is still wearing the guards tabard from the bridge crossing. His theory is that perhaps other golems are programmed to ignore it as well. He hopes. :)
Rholf Kastigarr |
Larissa looks at Father Kastigarr. "Is it right to take it?"
"We will leave them here in the house when we leave. Current circumstance necessitate our using them for the time being, Miss Brightfoot. An ethical dilemma will only arise if we claim them as our own with no rightful claim to them."
Larissa Brightfoot |
With a doubtful look, she holds out her hands to the magus for the second halberd. "My claws are of no use against a thing of metal like the one in the entryway. Even if I'm not trained with it, I'll be of more use with this."
She gives it a couple of experimental swings to get its balance. "It is well-made, isn't it? Even I can tell the balance is very natural."
Squaring her shoulders, she looks around. "Where next?"
N´Kai Sureblade |

N'Kai hands Larissa the halberd with relief. "Seems like a nice enough weapon. Maybe the Count intended these weapons to be of use if the golems got out of control. Which seems a likely scenario now..."
Squaring her shoulders, she looks around. "Where next?"
"Maybe that secret door over there??" AA3??
Edwin Drood |
"Obviously." Edwin says with his nose just a little too high.
"What better place to seek than behind a door they obviously didn't want you to find?" He asks with a straight face.
He clears his throat, then givers the door a cursory inspection for unpleasant surprises.
