The gator tugs loose of Edwin's whip........he's free, and backs up into the drink.

Castiel, Rholf, and Alinya get an aoo.

Then it's the group's attack.
When the MAIN attack happens, the gator is in the water at its current position, however,, the AOO happens when it's still on land.

Let me know if that's confusing.

So, for example,.....Castiel could hit it once with the AOO, and to hit it again on the new round at 5 feet, he'd have to step into the water......

And, it's NOT an evil act to attack a retreating alligator.

It's called........hunting.

Castiel staggers over to a tree stump and collapses onto it. He takes a deep breath and says a quiet prayer to The Inheritor before leaning to look at the damage to his leg. "Miss Brightfoot, my thanks to you and your goddess for keeping me upright while we fought that, that... 'gator'."

Larissa blushes and looks away, making a show of checking the others for wounds. "Does anyone require aid?" She makes a point of checking with the locals that accompanied the party, as well.

Glad that worked! I was about to feel very worthless until that grapple/whip roll! :)

I tell you what though, I like the Detective abilities and all, but I'm REALLY starting to miss that Bard song/boost in battle! ;P

Cool. I'm debating the channel energy option - I could not use it without including the 'gator before. I think I'd prefer you held onto that cure spell if there's another combat before we rest.

No worries, as Bard I'm a spontaneous caster, so as long as I have a 2nd lvl spell slot unused it's always available! :)

The gravestones are extremely basic; nothing too occult or religious about them. A log, sometimes an actual stone, with initials rudely carved in them. Some neat, some rather lowbrow jobs.

For perception checks, I don't need an actual square on the map, but a general location like "the camp," or.......the copse of trees at NO 5-6."

Edwin first searches where the Manticore jumped out, suspecting it might be the beasts lair.

Afterwords, he will try to figure out if the gator that jumped them was the same one that was supposed to have jumped Dubioc.

Edwin finds a nest.

There's three large eggs, volleyball sized.

And a corpse. Looks dwarven.
Dressed in a colorful patchwork coat.

On cursory examination, there's no way to tell if this was the gator that attacked the Beast of Lepidstadt.

"Thet mighta been the same gator as ate on the Beast. Can't tell; it wuz dark thet night....."

Ah, THAT explains the reason that the manticore attacked so viciously. He was a mommy." Edwin says with a straight face.

"Hm,... I wonder if manticore's would make good watch-creatures,...?" He wonders aloud, gazing at the eggs. Then he shrugs and begins inspecting the dwarven corpse.

The coat has numerous pockets.

Find:
an oil of keen edge,
a 30 gp silver flask of brandy
a felt purse with 50 platinum and 100 gold
a +1 short sword
and
a wand of ghost sound 30 charges.

He's been dead a shorter time than the incident where the villagers chased the Beast here.....he's only a few days' dead. A week at most.

"A dwarf. With a partially used wand of ghost sound. Very curious indeed."

There's a massive set of double puncture wounds on the forehead and the back of the skull, and the corpse had a broken neck.
