I have been having this idea swirl around in my head quite a bit. Using several amines as a basis for starting a new homebrew, such as the following:

Quests & Event:

Do remember the game has fallen away from the structure of the game and the quests may be harder to find, change somehow, etc. Understand it will be a complete restart from aphla and beta playing.

Here are a few more things that I would like you to adjust on your character sheets:

Vital statistics:
Put your vital stats, expended charges and active conditions in your forum tag line. It really helps for those situations when a GM needs to make a roll for the whole party (eg. everyone makes a reflex save). That means I can easily do the rolls, resolve all the effects and move the game along in a single post.

How to post vital stats:

When you edit the profile for your alias, anything that appears these fields will appear on your tagline in posts on a PbP thread (in this order):
1. Gender
2. Race
3. Classes/Levels
All you need to do is put your vital stats in these three fields and you are good to go. Formatting goes a long way. Here is some code from one of my PbP characters (with extra spaces before the the "ooc" so that the code doesn't get parsed... silly Paizo not allowing [noparse] tags):

Note how I've used "ooc" tags to alternate the color of each snippet of info to make it more readable. Note also that the Paizo forums will make your tagline bold no matter what you do, so "b" is a useless tag (hence my use of "ooc"). If you run out of room in one field (I think there is a character limit) then just put part of the information into a preceding field.

Could be either a class that was removed from the game, but they didn't delete alpha characters with it (or they just missed yours). Could also be an alpha pre-order bonus, although I like the former better.

Wonderful...more words to read...I only have an INT of 7...I can speak common...kinda.


Take into consideration your character's ability scores are like 'system correction' for your avatar's actions and abilities based off those scores and not a reflection of your player abilities. So, you could have an INT of 3 and still be able to speak like Shakespeare, you just wouldn't be able to cast spells from INT if you were a full-caster.

At least, that's the way I understand it. Maybe, the 'system correction' just makes it difficult for you to read or something along those lines.

Of course, as this is the very beginning of the game, before the 'announcement', you could roleplay at that level of intelligence.


Your choice Board. I agree with Garret's first statement. You should be able to have a strong vocabulary. Maybe not Shakespeare level but who really does?

Yeah as Wolf says, we're the players, not the characters really. I began how I would play an MMORPG, look at stuff that would be relevant to the player, talk OOC and like its a game "LFG Tank! Come on stop RPing you nerds, lets go skill up and get some loot!" :D

Yeah, more HP and CON are next on the to-do list and getting my AC up. I'm very much a "level 1 tank" right now, as in a tank only in name

Agreed, but as a lvl 1 MMORPG tank you're more likely to be "warrior with 10% extra health and 10% higher armor" :D With a few skill-ups Bastion will become a fortress of a man ...er ifrit ;D

Armoured Fighter is a subclass in pathfinder that gives you Damage Reduction up to DR 20/- that means DR on everything...arrows won't phase you much at that point. Than you get a tower shield enchanted with Arrow Catching and your a real tank! Intimidating Prowess is a must at that point as well as Improved Bull Rush and Improved Overrun. AC between 30 and 35 but much higher when moving. Tank builds rock! (Sorry, being a big nerd is my thing...that's why I wanted to bring in an Oracle Seer, Mystery of Time, Curse of Tongues, Deity Nethis...but I couldn't figure out how to get it to fit. So I brought a simple Human Punch Dude, Battle Tactic of Hit With Board. Much easier to fit into this campaign.)

haha nerds are good, they do their research :D Thanks for the tips. I'm still reading up on all these endless classes, I did my fair share of MMO tanking, which is where my tank love comes from. It's kinda funny this, all the old MMO jargon and my playstyle is very much how I'm playing Bastion. Running to points that seem to provide useful info, run everywhere, no RPing, just kill and level up, if it's not gear or XP it's not useful hehehe


i know i saw a feat, Goad i think, that let's you use intimidate to force foes to focus their attacks on you.

and i'm kinda the opposite, bastion. i'm one of those guys who try to read everything, get into the story, and try for 100% completion.

I'm a multi-tasker...I do a lot of things at once, but in order, to make sure I complete things I need. Always shooting for prerequisites and qualifications for the next best thing. Always shooting to be better than I am. So, Board is a personification of that part of me. He tries to better himself but focuses on what he can't do a little. Sometimes he just needs to be pointed in the right direction and told to do what he does best, hit with board. In fact, he is amazing at that. With his feats, whenever he uses an improvised weapon in a full round attack, he is always going against flat footed AC and does 1D8 plus strength even at level one. Great DPS!


@Bastion: you could take the jotungrip from Titan Mauler to use a 2-hander along with heavy armor and shield, that would help with your dpr...somewhat.

Antagonize could be a good idea, thanks. But there's no need for the Jotungrip, you guys do the dps, I'd rather take -2 to attack to improve my AC and instead grab some defensive feat/special

I've been looking at Shielded Fighter , Sacred Shield and something similar, there's a paladin focused on armor like the Sacred Shield is focused on shield. I think I'll need some self-heals like lay on hands too. I'm also very interested in getting proper DR and IF possible Fast Healing.

For the DR I'd pick up either Invulnerability or Armored Defense.

Invulnerability you could get up to DR 10/-, and Armored Defense you could get up to DR 15/- (if you wear adamantine heavy armor)

For Fast healing you could get either Celestial or Infernal Healing spells, or somehow get an Eidolon's Fast Healing. There's probably other sources but i'm too lazy to sift for 'em right now.

Besides access to maneuvers: armiger's mark, aegis, clad in steel, tactical acumen, stalwart.

Armament Shield and Zweihander Training from the Zweihnader Sentinel archetype are also more useful than running sword and board. According to the developer Armament Shield works exactly like a shield so any shield-based abilities you may have still function.

I agree with tin_man on the warder abilities, especially the armiger's mark.

Of course, the DR maximums are based on the standard 20th lvl max. could be quite possible to go higher in this game with the Invulnerability.

Some good points, with Armament Shield however I can't get shield enchantment bonuses (I'll be going for a +5 shield with tons of addons sooner or later). Aegis is fine, but I was thinking of Holy Shield (from Sacred Shield, link above) instead, as it will probably be higher AC bonus.

Armiger's Mark though is a very good idea

On a side note:
I started watching .hack to get into the spirit for this (seen Log Horizon, SAO, Tower of Druaga, Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon, already). This series seems SO slow and so little happening, just at S01E10 now but struggling to go on. I want more Log Horizon T.T

I know what you mean Bastion, the animes just take too long, or is that on purpose to drag it out. Then we are only stuck with one or two seasons. I got to check out Tower of Druaga.

@tin_man: haha I think we're approaching it from different directions, just as we talked about with the games. I loved Log Horizon because the MMORPG "system2 is so familiar to me, I'm in the exact same mind-space of seeing it as a mechanical system.
