Lio's expression gets stony. She glances at Jorun. Then Zaiobe touches her, and Lio's face turns toward her feathered friend.

Zaiobe:
You get a slew of mental images nearly assaulting you. Lio is trying to repress them, but that just makes it worse. Terrible memories of being touched in horrific ways, and all of them coming to the forefront at the idea of being made to wrestle at some bored rich guy's say so. And terrible guilt towards Jorun, who was used much as she was, and will now have to serve at some guys amusement. And if they need to be in this town, then she has no choice. Because she has to get money back to Jorun's family, she has responsibility. She has to do this. She's nearly going catatonic at this point.

Shalelu or Sense Motive 20:
Lio is overcome with terror at what the Prince is saying everyone has to participate in.

PALACE

You are swiftly chivvied to your rooms by the horde of servants. The rooms you are shown to are luxurious, with goose feather beds, warm fireplaces, access to steaming baths ... and endless assistants to pamper you.

It is quickly made clear to you that you have free rein to explore anywhere in both the large and rambling Palace and, whenever you are not called upon to attend a feast, the town. It also quickly becomes apparent that it will be extremely difficult to go anywhere outside your rooms, be it in the Palace or in the town, without at least half a dozen people appearing around you to help - servants, guides, guards, and other people with no readily apparent function.

With almost disturbing enthusiasm, there are people around to fetch you food, fetch you drinks, fetch you towels, scrub your back, brush your animals, guard you from danger, give you a massage, play music for you, point out interesting architecture, and, it is strongly implied, most likely whatever else your imagination can dream up, hovering outside your doors, waiting upon your word.

You do not think, after seeing how they react to you, that they are there to spy upon you. Their purpose genuinely seems to be to provide you with whatever you might wish.

EVENING OF GOZRAN 28 - THE FEAST OF THREE

Flextime before the Feast may continue. If anyone blows up part of the Palace, or otherwise does something unexpected, I will roll with it somehow, I promise.

When you return to the Courtyard, tables have been laid out for an elaborate feast on one side, and a huge area has been cleared for the games on another. There are over 300 guests, including among their number Prince Batsaikhar's wives, courtiers, concubines, subjects, and servants. As the honored royal guests, however, you are seated at the table with the Prince. He insists that Myriana sit at his right hand.

Buttersnips' eyes darken.

The Prince has asked his chefs to create the finest meal possible from only the rarest and most luxurious foods imaginable. The food served tonight includes: spicy duck heads, ox forehead, turtle casserole, pigeon brains, fried chicken feet, and "tiger, dragon, and phoenix soup" (made with cat, snake, and chicken meat). He once again asks you to regale him with stories of your travels.

He frequently suggests delicacies for Myriana to try, and makes sure that she gets the choicest selection of every dish.

Buttersnips' eyes darken further.

During the feast, the Prince's Royal Guards perform an exhibition of the Three Games of Hongal. You are all, of course, asked to participate, and demonstrate the skills of and talents of far lands.

Each of you may select (unless you refuse entirely, of course), one of the following three challenges:

Mounted Archery: Make a DC 5 ride check to guide your mount with your knees, and a DC 10 Ride check to fight from your mount. You can take 10 on these checks.

Then shoot at a target with a ranged weapon while your mount is running. Note there is a -8 penalty to shooting from a running mount unless you have the Mounted Archery feat; the Seeking weapon quality does not counteract this penalty. A bullseye is AC 25; the next ring out is AC 23, then AC 21, and so forth until the outermost ring at AC 15.

Bareback Riding: Make a DC 20 Ride check for a fast mounting check, a DC 15 Ride check to spur your mount to greater speed, and then a DC 15 Ride check to leap over obstacles. You may take 10 on these checks; however, there is a -5 penalty on all of these checks for performing them bareback unless you have the Trick Riding feat and are wearing light or no armor (which is presumably the case.)

Wrestling: Make mutual unarmed Grapple checks against one of the Prince's champions (CMD 27 vs. grapple.) First one to give the pinned condition to the opponent wins.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10
