Discussion thread for OOC commentary. I thought about doing character backstory to drop into campaign here but I realized its faster to simply use the gameplay thread for that purpose. There are no bad reasons for why you found yourself in this town, so if you come up with something, I'll do my best to work it in. The default answer is also fine if you can't think of why you'd be in the middle of this massive forest neighboring 4 nations.

I've posted a map of the town but the assumption for the module is that you've just gotten to town weary concluding your travels, when all of a sudden the man who was to pay you was arrested. You're accepted the kindness of strangers and are resting in the inn, having your watered down mead but fresh bread. You guys can talk to any of the patrons of the inn, right now there are a few in there, mainly farmers and the innkeeper. I'm assuming that the animal companion decided to lay low in the trees rather than go into town, being a few hundred feet away and easily in calling distance as necessary.

I am kind of confused. I was the one to open the door in the last encounter and then other people were up ahead all of a sudden. I guess I am just feeling like a useless character.
David_Bross |
Sorry guys I guess I've been a little unclear about how I intended to use the map.
I assume when you post actions (or check the PBP to see other's actions) you'll check the map as well and move your PCs to indicate where you'd like to be.
For instance when someone says "I move up and open the door" I assume that you'll respond by positioning your PC where you'd like to be when the door is opened, regardless of if you reply to it or not. I've been trying to wait a bit before posting an initiative roll or perception check to allow for people to have their PCs change positions once someone does open a door.
If you'd like you can also have formations so we can assume where you'll be even if you haven't had a chance to update your position on the map (e.g. I stay next to Ronaef whenever we're not actively in combat unless otherwise specified).
This entire module is filled with explorable maps and I'd like to know what I can do to make this run smoothly for people. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be happy to look into them.

I like what you're doing i just got a bit confused which is to be expected in an online game. This game is odd in that the party seems a bit hodge podge but it works really well. It'll only get better.
David_Bross |
See, Braggom deciding to walk up and open the door is a perfect example of when I'd need to wait a few hours, since clearly the group has different ideas as to how to handle a closed door :)
I will note it is hard to be particularly stealthy when opening a door underground. BBEG thinks that was one hell of a breeze...
David_Bross |
Sorry, wasn't trying to upset anyone. I figure if you haven't posted in 24 hours, without explanation, that your character essentially delays. If doing so would be deterimental to your current situation, I'll probably post a relevant action to try to avoid that.
In this case I had Marcellino try to climb out of the pit. I wasn't super worried about it because I knew that the lever (that was likely to be pulled) opened the pit, and the combat wasn't going to go much longer.
As far as the message, I reread it and I could see how the "Its dark, you're likely to be eaten by a grue" comment could be misconstrued as antagonistic. It was joking and I hope it was taken that way.
Marcellino Wintrish |
I posted on Friday and nothing happened really until today. Nothing about you can make a climb check to get out or anything just that I am getting swallowed by the trap.
Nátulcien Ar-Feiniel |
Is Marcellino still with us? Because he had unused spells for the day and Warpriests can convert prepared spells to curing spells like normal clerics, and it would have been obvious for him to do that for Baggrom before we rested.
Nátulcien Ar-Feiniel |
Ooh, if you thought you had got killed and we were all just ignoring it I can understand why you felt put off by the game. I would be too in that situation. "Welp, he's dead. Oh look a treasure chest!" Not fun!
So, want to rejoin us and laugh at the miscommunication?
Marcellino Wintrish |
Not really. I am not a fan if this DM's style. When you are told that the ground or pit swallowed you up and then go on to the next thing as if nothing happened with no ability to roll anything then that is poor DMing.

Heya all i'm away on holiday from the 2nd to the 7th of April (probably 1st to the 6th for those of you in USA), i'll have limited posting ability. As in I may have nowhere to charge my phone. I can be botted if needs be.
David_Bross |
Well right now it is sort of open ended as to what the party wants to do and where you're going to go. I know where the plot takes you next (as well as what I'd think common sense would tell you), but we'll see what you guys want to do :^)
I'm waiting to see what you guys do next. The kobolds you were talking to are trying to leave, having held up their end of the bargin.
Nátulcien Ar-Feiniel |
There wasn't a lot of treasure under the tower. Here's what we've got: 2x mithral daggers, for (if we sell them) 502g, and coins and gems from chests for 800g total. Plus the 500g. Does anyone want to keep a mithral dagger? If not, that's 360.4g for each of us.
David_Bross |
In a town this small you can't just sell treasure. You have to take it to someone who might have interest and sell it. You are already aware of the major players in town, some of who could have interest in historical artifacts, some who could like purchasing weapons for their shop, etc.
Coins and gems are treated as money for all of those purposes however.
David_Bross |
The above comment might be off putting to people. If you'd prefer please post below and we can gloss over it. Certain things could have more value to some than others, was why I highlighted it, but if you'd prefer to just turn stuff into cash and not spend time on it we can do that.
David_Bross |
Correct, 8,500 cp, 4,000 sp, 115 gp, 14 pp, and a teak case containing 30 gems. The gems and case are worth a grand total of 800 gp.
2 mithral daggers
500 gp
The gems, case, and contents are easily converted to 800gp (as it is currency). This gives you a total of 1300 gp to divide as you see fit.
I hesitate to posit this as "treasure" but you also downed a few kobolds on your way in. You have 4 serviceable (albeit smelling of kobold and dried blood), small spears and small leather armors.
David_Bross |
Is roleplaying the buying/selling stuff a bog? If so I can skip it and ask for a few diplomacy checks. There is a vast town to interact with (beyond buying and selling), but I thought that the merchants might be a way to get into it.
Post your thoughts so I can shape it to what you guys want.

I don't have anything that I can really get as a level 1 mage atm...
The group needs to find a source for curing either potions or a wand of cure light.
My character is completely not built for social interaction due to initial stats and needing another level to get more skills.
