@GM: I think I failed my save, didn't I?
GM Baerlie |
@Jastheriga, Lettu: sorry, my mistake!
Felicitas moves into the room and hits the allip with Elektra. The rapier strikes the incorporeal body of the allip and leaves a hole.

If anyone pulls a weapon or anything, will my fascinate "break", or does it work differently? Either way, I'm keeping an eye here, and will wait if needed be
GM Baerlie |
A fascinated creature is entranced by a supernatural or spell effect. The creature stands or sits quietly, taking no actions other than to pay attention to the fascinating effect, for as long as the effect lasts. It takes a –4 penalty on skill checks made as reactions, such as Perception checks. Any potential threat, such as a hostile creature approaching, allows the fascinated creature a new saving throw against the fascinating effect. Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a ranged weapon at the fascinated creature, automatically breaks the effect. A fascinated creature's ally may shake it free of the spell as a standard action.
Yes, if a foe draws a weapon or aims at you the effect breaks, an ally may shake you free and it also breaks the effect. Potential threats allow another save.
GM Baerlie |
The group finally defeats the allips in the haunted dormitory. While the group rests and has some food more Pathfinders enter the monastery. You carry a letter from VC Valsin where he asks you to help Felicitas with an undead-dragon-issue in Belhaim and to send the others home.
While Gavin, Wings, Bikgar and Jastheriga pack their things you have time to introduce yourselves to Felicitas.
If you are ready, tell me where you want to go. Assuming Felecitas gives you a summary of the situation you may read the past pages of this campaign.
Lucius Crownguard |
You see a tall Andoran man dressed in a chain shirt and dirty deerskin boots. He has a bow tucked on his back and a longsword at his belt.
"Greetings...I am Lucius Crownguard, a woodsman. I have heard you are in need of some compatriots to help defend Belhaim"
Al'Khain |
Al'Khain, a tallish, deeply tanned man with black hair, strides in behind Lucius and offers a deep bow to Felicitas. "It is an honor to work with you." He wears a well-made breastplate over a fine, loose-fitting turquoise outfit. He carries a variety of weapons, the most notable of which is an overly large curved blade in the eastern style.
Bygone PBP |
Dotting in. I need to relevel him and read the game history. I'm a faithful poster so unless something really bad happens I won't be dropping on you guys.
Bygone PBP |
"Wow! Look at that pile!" Bygone is a Varisan - monkey man - with well traveled garb covering an expensive looking chain shirt. He seems a bit fidgety, but pauses in his usual erratic movements and holds quite still when he gets a look at the loot the Felicitas presents them with.
"Where do we start? Well, I for one can't use any of the heavier armor or weapons. Frankly, I'm not much of a fighter and usually summon the muscle from a more primal plane, though I would like to grab any protective devices left over."
How do we want to divvy the loot? Ask and you shall receive?
GM Baerlie |
if you don't want to read the whole 27 pages game history you can also read the summary in the discussion thread. The other group already searched a big part of the ground level. The found stairs leading down in the room south of the haunted dormitory (where you are at the moment).
The allips in this room were the haunts of slaughtered monks. At the other end of the room you find a spiral staircase leading up.
Bygone PBP |
"Felicitas, you ready to move on? Shall we take the stairs down? Or would you rather inspect the buildings to the north?"
Bygone PBP |
"I like a woman with chutzpah!" He throws in a couple of monkey grunts as he joins her on the way to the stairs.
City folks can be so rigid and unadventurous. Nice to meet one that's bold.
GM Baerlie |
A flight of stairs descends to a cellar room with alcove-lined walls. Each alcove hosts a statue of an athletic man or woman with a long braid, and each figure is in different pose of martial performance. There are no doors in this room.
You notice that the layout of this room is a common one in places sacred to Irori. This room is the start of the Aspirant’s Path, a series of challenges that form a sort of obstacle course meant to train worshipers in the various physical traits and skills Irori demands on the road to self-perfection.
Though the nature of the areas along any one Aspirant’s Path can vary, the first task is always one of observation.
Merisiel Level5 |
"Yeah, well, I like a man with hands he keeps to himself... and money that he doesn't." grins Merisiel.
She looks carefully around the room.
"Anyone know anything about this place? What exactly are we looking for?"
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Aesabella |
Know(Religion) Take 10: 10 + 11 = 21
"This is a shrine to Irori. We are in the first of several rooms that make up a... spiritual obstacle course. It is called the Aspirant's Path. Irori had these designed to test and train his worshippers in various physical traits and skills. It is part of their path to 'self-perfection'," says the quiet elven woman as she helps Merisiel inspect the room.
Perception - Aid Another: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Merisiel Level5 |
Merisiel checks the hidden door for traps, and then if she finds none, tries to open it.
Takes ten for 21, and then checks a second time
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
"Time to take care, who knows what may lurk down here now.. Shhh"
Bygone PBP |
Bygonne fires up a detect magic and keeps concentration as the party progresses. After casting, he stifles his usual boisterous manner showing that he does know how to be quiet.
Al'Khain |
Before following Merisiel through, Al'Khain takes some time to bind himself to any of the party that are willing.
Bygone PBP |
"I'm unfamiliar with that spell. Sounds like an adventure! I'm in!"
More monkey grunts punctuate excitement before he realizes that he is supposed to be quiet.
GM Baerlie |
Merisiel carefully scans the door for traps, but she does not find any so she opens the door. Behind the door is another roomwith a fifteen-foot-high domed ceiling and no floor except a two-inch-wide ledge that skirts the edges of the room around a deep pit that drops away into darkness. The pit here is 40 feet deep.
The deep pit symbolized to the monks the darkness of chaos.
Aesabella |
"Al'Khain, crossing the pit will not be a problem. I will make you light as a feather and allow you to fly like a bird. You shall carry us all across the pit and land us safely on the far side. I would suggest taking the heartiest first. Bring me accross at the end."
If our searches prove fruitless and we find no other way across, I will cast Fly on Al'Khain when he is ready.
Bygone PBP |
"I'm thinking I should summon an eagle down in the pit to see if anything bites before we climb down or over."
Merisiel Level5 |
"If this was a test, why would the monks put a trap at the bottom. A forty foot fall would kill most..."
She shrugs.
"I can walk that ledge... I think.. with a rope if that is enough to help others."
What DC do I think walking the ledge would be?
Bygone PBP |
"I would expect nothing less of you Merisiel. But it is also true that things may have changed since the course was set up. Still... If that is your wish, by all means cross!"
It would be a simple matter for one such as I to cross, but these others seem to be looking at it with suspicion. It seems that it is not because of a potential trap, as I thought! Instead it is the chance to pass a test and the adventure/challenge. How exciting to see these other races try to be more Vanaran!"
Merisiel Level5 |
"No" replies the elf to Al'Kain.
"Their philosphy is of little interest to me, and more importantly, their purses even less."
Assuming she thinks it looks okay, Merisiel will take ten on acrobatics to walk the thin ledge, for a 27
GM Baerlie |
The search for a safer path across the pit does not reveal anything. Bygone's eagle also does not spot any threats down in the pit. Merisiel has a look at the ledge and it seems to be wide enough to walk along carefully. DC15 Acrobatics Climbing down and up on the other side might be more difficult. DC20 Climb
Merisiel is the first to walk along the ledge and she crosses to the other side without problems. Felicitas throws her a rope.
