Ting Tang |
that a girl, Felicitas! Caves?
Ting listens and watches carefully as the man speaks more, before they leave he asks him
"caves, where moight 'ese caves be ats, wroight?"
waiting till the man tells him where the cave are, as they walk away ting asks Hans and Felicitas
"Tha caves aren't in tha 'ouse, wroight? We's can takes whatever we wants from 'em wroight? should we goes 'ere afor Lyme and Sabu get ta 'em foist? Tha lady said air wa no 'urry on the 'ouse, wroight"
Hans Olafsson |
Hans ponders for a moment.
"Hmmm... I wouldn't put it past him to have guardians and/or traps stationed there as well. If the servants weren't allowed in, I dare say that that means they aren't recognised as 'allowed visitors', making any attempt by them to enter foolish at best. Let's keep exploring the estate to see what we can find."
He then turns back to the man.
"Can you tell us where exactly the caves are? After that, well, the path out the front door has been cleared; I would suggest gathering your things, and heading to the Inn to have a good meal - you looked famished!"
Hans flips the man a gold piece.
"Tell them we sent you. If you are looking for further employment, I suggest talking with the Baroness - I am sure that she could find something for you to do."
He then gets ready to follow Ting Tang in the ongoing exploration of the estate.
Let's try that final room on the right, before moving over to the other side.
Ting Tang |
caves, we’ll store that knowledge away for later
Ting proceeds over to the other door in the kitchen pantry area and checking it for traps and locks attempts to open it.
take 20 on perception on the door to the east
Hans Olafsson |
"Fair enough. Good luck!"
Seeing that they seem to have discovered the pantry, Hans sighs.
"Right then. To the other side we go!"
He then follows Ting Tang to the door on the opposite side of the entrance chamber.
Ting Tang |
Ting looks around the pantry for a moment then returns to Hans and Felicitas and says
”If’n I recalls wroight ‘air is another door off of tha main room, ‘Ows about we checks it out afore we goes up stairs, Wroight?”
Ting toddles back through the kitchen and into the main room and checks out the door on the western wall.
take 20 on perception checking the door for traps, if the door is untrapped and unlocked he will open it a see whats inside
Feli2 |
Also we are just 3 people.
Looking up und down and grabbing a vial of honey and some better wine for later Feli shrugs. "Maybe we need something to barter! If not we will barter with our tummys"
Ting Tang |
Going into the hallway ting looks at both doors
always go right
Ting turns to the right door and checks it for traps
”we’z’l go wroight foist, wroight”
take 20 on perception for traps, if untrapped and unlocked he will go in
Ting Tang |
ting admires the globe for a moment then returning to the hallway he proceeds to the door on the left
Well' let's take a look-see behind tha other door, wroight
ting takes 20 (29) on perception check for traps on this door as well, if there are no traps he will open the door
Ting Tang |
ting goes to the spiral staircase in the front room and carefully goes up it, checking for traps as he goes.
"I's'l takes a moment ta check 'es 'ear stairs fer trapsies, wroight"
take 20 on perception for traps on the stairs
GM Baerlie |
Ting examines the stairs carefully but does not find anything. They are safe to climb up.
And in case you do climb up
The stairs lead up to a big room. This lushly furnished library features three tall bookcases running north to south down the center of the chamber and another bookcase of iron in the northeast corner. A stuffed grizzly bear towers in the northwest corner, its claws and fangs bared aggressively. The east wall features sixteen paintings of various planets in gilt frames. A ladder in the west side of the ceiling leads up to a trap door.
Ting Tang |
"Oy, tha steps are okey dokey, how's about we go's upstairs, wroight"
the library has a needle trap
going up stairs ting sees the all the books, and remembering the servant said there was a needle trap in the library, he takes his time looking for it.
"so's 'at's what books is fer, hiddin' trapsies."
take 20 on perception looking for needle trap, the he attempts to disable it
once ting finds the trap, he takes off his goggles and cleans them good, placing them back on he attempts to remove the needle trap.
disable device, trap: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (6) + 19 = 25
Hans Olafsson |
No problem :-) That was part of the point of getting the goggles, so I will keep reminding you ;-)
Hans relaxes when he sees no immediate threats in the upstairs room, but he remains on guard whilst Ting Tang looks for traps.
Ting Tang |
one down one to go
ting looks at the lock, confident he can get it unlocked if he has enough time he tries again.
"I's'l need just a minute er two fer 'is here lock, wroight"
if it's a lock ting can take 20 on it for 38 right?
Hans Olafsson |
@Ting Tang: Actually, it would be a 39 ;-) Probably 1 short of what we needed, but them's the breaks :-P
@GM Baerlie: Felicitas tried the Spellcraft check earlier, but did not roll high enough, unfortunately :-/
"Well, looks like we can't get into it. Still, at least we removed the trap..."
Hans then nods in the direction of the RHS door leaving the room.
"Shall we continue?"
I'll assume that Ting does the standard 'take 20 looking for traps, take 10 to disable them' ;-)
Ting Tang |
almost
ting, regrettably turning away from the locked iron bookcase. going to the door on the east side, above the kitchen he checks the door for traps
"Lets see whats above tha kichen, shall we's?"
take 20 looking for traps, 10 to disable them ;-)
GM Baerlie |
If the locked object has a lock, the DC to open that lock increases by 10 while it remains attached to the object. If the object does not have a lock, this spell creates one that can only be opened with a DC 20 Disable Device skill check. So I think 39 is enough. Stupid spellcraft check limitation :(
Ting disables the arcane lock on the iron bookcase. The bookcase contains extraordinarily rare books on subjects related to astronomy. Bored from disabling traps and opening bookcases Tin advances to eastern room on this floor. He checks the door pro-style and finds out it's trapped with two screaming lock traps. Further the door is locked with an arcane lock.
Ting Tang |
well that's impressive
ting looks at the door carefully and starts in on the traps and then the lock.
"I's'l take's me time wit 'es, wroight"
so take 10(29) on the two traps and take 20 on the lock (38), does that sound about right? :)
GM Baerlie |
Not a problem at all for Ting :D
Ting disables the traps and successfully picks the magically sealed lock. He opens the door. It's Hunclay's study room. Two long tables of stained oak line the east wall of this room, each cluttered with alchemical supplies. Atop the desk on the west wall are writing implements, ink, sheets of vellum and several scrolls. A large chest secured by a prominent lock sits just north of the desk.
Five potion flasks rest on the eastern tables, atop the writing desk are four scrolls. A locked chest stands next to the desk.
assuming Ting picks the lock on the chest
The chest contains Hunclay's six spellbooks. This collection contains all cantrips and a number of higher level spells-25 ist-level, 22 2nd-level, 17 3rd-level, 13 4th-level, and 11 5th-level spells.
Hans Olafsson |
Hans whistles.
"Alright, *now* I understand why this door was so heavily warded... this lot is going to fetch a pretty penny!"
He then nods to other door on the LHS.
"Ting Tang? Would you like to do the honors?"
Standard operating protocol ;-)
Ting Tang |
makes one wish they could read
ting nods in agreement with Hans,
seems loike we's got another door across tha room, back 'air, wroight?"
he then toddles over to the door on the eastern side of the library and checks that door for traps and locks.
so take 20 (30)on perception for traps, if trapped take 10 (29) if locked take 20 (38) standard operating protocol?
GM Baerlie |
Stalkers :D
Felicitas does not know the spell on the page, but she can nevertheless read the four words on the side of the page. "Eox," "Aucturn," "Carcosa," and "Dominion" - only "Dominion" hasn't been crossed out.
Ting opens the next door. This bedchamber is richly appointed, with three armoires and three tall wardrobes, a canopied bed with a large locked chest at its foot, a writing desk and chair, elaborate marble tub and a thick bearskin rug.
Ting Tang |
hhhmmm didn't that man in the pantry say something about the bear rug being trapped?
Ting looks carefully in the room, be especially careful around the bear skin rug, looking for any traps or hidden compartments
"keep yer eye balls peeled around tha rug, wroight"
so take 20 (30)on perception for traps, if trapped take 10 (29) if locked take 20 (39) ?
GM Baerlie |
A deep growl comes from the direction of the bearskin rug when Ting enters the room. Nothing happens and Ting is able to disarm the magic rug trap.
After disabling the magic trap Ting opens the lock at the chest. It contains 3,200 gp worth of coins and gemstones. Sitting in the top desk drawer is a ring of keys that can open most of the locks in the manor. A scrap of paper sitting on Hunclay's nightstand seems to contain a few bawdy limericks.
Hans Olafsson |
Hans shakes his head in bemusement.
"So he had a bit of a bawdy sense of humor, hey?"
Satisfied that there is nothing else of danger in the room, he heads back out into the central chamber, and nods at the ladder.
"After you, Ting Tang!"
Ting Tang |
knowledge, nature: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
that's a nice grizzly bear rug, wonder if I can make it a fur coat
ting hangs his tongue out of his gapping beak in a tengu smile and chuckles at Han's comment as he toddles out to the library and up the ladder, as quietly as he can, when he peaks over the ladder he takes a look around.
"when yer wroights yer wroights, wroight gov'n'r"
stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
take 20 (30)on perception for traps and anything interesting, if trapped take 10 (29)
GM Baerlie |
Ting climbs up the spiral staircase and opens the door to a single room. It's the observatory. Within this glass-domed chamber is an enormous telescope that sits upon a platform over a veritable sea of metal gears. An angled megal chair sits below the device, within reach of a cluster of pedals and levers that enable its occupant to perform adjustments to the telescope's orientation. Tables covered in books and charts occupy the southeast corner. The view of the surounding skies afforded by the glass dome is breathtaking in its expanse.
Ting Tang |
wow, this is almost as nice as my goggles
ting calls back down the ladder,
"it's a humongous lookin' glass, come on ups, he's got papers an books on tha table 'at moight be woith a look-see, wroight"
after calling down to Hans and Felicitas ting toddles over to the table and looks for anything interesting.
He will take 20 (29) on the tables contents
GM Baerlie |
In addition to 50 rare star charts that focus on strangely empty-looking swaths of the night sky, lying on the tables are an exquisite platinum astrolabe, six rare astronomy tomes of aged Taldan pedigree, and two expensive handheld telescopes. In all, this stargazing gear is worth 5,000 gp.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
