Dragonlance: Heroes of a New Age

Game Master Shalafi2412

What came before...:

Six months have passed since the War of Souls, an epic conflict that spanned the world of Krynn. After 39 years when the Gods have been silent and magic flowed unrestrained by the Moons, the Gods of Krynn have returned. The first among the Light, Paladine walks the earth as a mortal, while the Dark Queen Takhisis lies dead, leaving their places vacant among the heavens. Ansalon still bears scars of the decades where evil reigned upon the world in the Godless times. The Dark Knights of Neraka still subjugate numerous lands and the wicked minotaurs have begun a campaign of conquest. Many among the righteous and good have suffered in the Age of Mortals. Solamina's forces are weakened by the war, the elves are in exile, the Kender lands burned to ash and the dwarves in ever conflict with their darker brethren. Decades ago, the Companions saved the world from the brink of ruin. Now once again, heroes must rise and bring balance back to the world. Will you be among them?

should I even add any actions at this point?

Gabriel strikes the final deadly blow on the last Mountain lion as it collapses to the ground dead from a sword in its gullet. They all now lie dead on the ground. While the lions look hungry they did seem to be unusually aggressive toward you. Perhaps the evil of this place has amplified their predatory nature. Nonetheless with your foes dead you have some choices of where to go.

1. Go to the tower in the center
2. Go to the Orcards to the West
3. Go to Fields to the East
4. Head toward the Ziggart building which is probably the main temple.

No need to post Terevalis as the enemies are all dead

Alathea grimaces, "We are all still quite injured, I feel we should enter with full strength or at least as healthy as we can be".

Alathea channels energy once more

She looks around the ruins from their current vantage point, "We were able to learn so little about this place, perhaps we should start at its heart, the Ziggurat Temple"

"I agree Alathea. I would prefer not to camp in this place until the power of the dead here is broken. If that is to be done I expect it will be done at the Ziggurat."

The party heads toward the Ziggarat looking structure at the far end of the valley. The desecration of this land gives an ill feeling to Gabriel due to his sensitivty to the divine. Alathea is less affected being neutral in her stance but does still feel some divine touch on this land.

As the group comes around the cliffs of the watchtower they hear a shrill voice seemingly involved in a one sided conversation with someone.

"What happened here? Do you know my Aunt Ashe? What's your name? Skuttles? Hey Skuttles have I told you of the time my Aunt Ashe spoke to the spirit of Fistandantalus? He was a Skull just like you, except with more teeth and all."

What do you do?

As Gabriel starts to feel ill, he will sling his shield and pull out the tree. If he feels better he will continue forward with the tree in hand and Aluashean in the other.

Expecting the voice heard our approach as we have no stealth about us.

"Who is there? Show yourself."

Indeed when Gabriel takes the tree out he feels much better as it glows with a holy fire that is soothing to the soul. While holding the tree corruption around him seems to be held at bay.

When the tree is out the desecration effect is canceled out. This applies to the holder and everyone within 20 feet of him. However the tree is not powerful enough to dispel the desecration so he does not get the benefits of Consecrate either, its a zero-sum game.

When addressed by Gabriel a small figure steps out from behind some of the rocks. You see before you a kender in black leather armor holding a hookpack in one hand and a skull with broken teeth in the other. The Kender appears to be pretty haggard looking with weathered skin and circles under his eyes as though he had not slept for a good while. He gives the party a wide eyed look in surprise and says,

"Oh hello travellers! I'm Thanator Grave-Eyes, but you can call me "Shroud" for short. I am a travelling Nightstalker at your service."

He gives a bow to the party.

"So what brings folks like you to this valley? This place is full of a lot of dead things. Skellies, Greenie Ogres and spooky black thingies which might hurt you if you get too close. Well some living things can hurt you as well here. I'ed avoid that Orchard if I were you. Really mean lady there covered with spiky vines and a mean temper if you get my drift. But the Talking Snake at the water pool is nice enough to talk to so long as you're nice to her."

Cool, sword and tree it is then. A cancel out is what I was hoping for.

Female Human Cleric 9 | HP = 61/71 - AC=23 - Channel 0/9 - Tear 11/20 - Hero Points 1/1 - Fort +9, Ref +4, Will +13 - Ini +1 - Per +14 Cleric 9

Alathea is a bit taken aback by the Kender.

"How long have you been here Shroud?"

Shroud says to Alathea, "I few days I think. Can't sleep here though. Too many voices chattering to me on the wind making it hard to get a good night sleep."

He blinks and then looks the skull in his hand in the eye and then says, "What's that Skuttles?"

He stares at the skull for a moment more and then says, "You'ed like me to ask them to help us? Ok Skuttles I'll ask them."

He looks back to the party and says, "Skuttles says that if you're good people you could help him and his friends pass onto that big gate in the sky. His friends you see are trapped in that big tower up there." He points to the guard tower. "And they can't leave here until you set them free. You'll help them won't you?"

"Yes how long have you been here and what are you doing here? We expected this valley to be full of the dead."

Shroud says to Gabriel, "Yes, plenty of dead things around here. But I'm good at avoiding trouble and they can't find me when I hide. As for what I'm doing here? Just looking around and checking out this valley. Its full of lots of thingies to look at and spirits to talk to. Still not the only living people I've seen come here. Also saw some veiled lady and two men go into that big building not too long after I arrived."

HP: 96 | AC:20 / Touch: 12 / FF: 16 | Init +4 | Perception +12 | Fort: +9 / Refl: +7 / Will: +4

Jor looks a bit suspicous about this whole thing but then, Kenders were known for their "characteristic" like these "Well, I dont have any reason to do anything" as Jor sighs "but I guess Alathea will be going on this mission?" as he gives questioning glance at her

"A veiled lady and men? You talk to the spirits. Have they told you anything of these people? Why they may be here?

Shroud shakes his head to Gabriel's question and says, "Nope, haven't heard anything about them from the ghosts. Don't know why they'ed come here. Just saw them from a distance go inside that big ziggy building."

"Can you tell us anything else of this place? Why do you stay? Do you know what the spirits here want?"

"Yes Jor, we will be helping the spirits move on to peace. Still, I think we should go to the Ziggurat first. Would you accompany us and tell us what you saw while we head in that direction Shroud?"

Shroud looks dumbfounded for a bit at the questions from Gabriel and then says, "Say that is a good question mister. Why am I staying here? I've seen just about everything out here, except inside that ziggy thing over there. As for that tower, its full of these bug things and some shadowy things so I got out of there quick. That big hole to the east has a very dangerous black thingie that tried to eat me. To the west is that mean vine lady who chased me out with those flowers with sharp teeth. I spoke to the snake lady behind the Ziggy thing for a bit. I suppose I'm just combing around looking to see if there is anything else to be found to add to my pouches."

When Alathea mentions the Ziggarat he says, "Yay! Finally I get to see the Ziggy place. Didn't want to go in there alone after those ghosts started jumping out of nowhere. Bet there is a lot to see in there with the help of a few good friends. Still we aught to help Skuttles out too, he's pretty sad you know."

Shroud looks to Terevalis and says, "I have seen ghosts of the past in the ziggie place and spooky shadow spirits. The ones Skuttles what's to help are in the guard tower though."

So is the party going straight to the ziggaurt temple or are you going to explore the guard tower first?

"The shadows at the tower sound like the corrupted elementals. The one that sent them to attack us could be there.
