High God of Krynn |
The Nation of Khur, a vast desert land that lies north of the lush forests of Silvenesti, South from the evil lands of the Taman Buruk and east from the Ogrelands of Blode. Long has it been the dominion of the Nomadic tribes of the Khur, a brown skinned people well adjusted to surviving the elements. Khur has had its share of hardships in the past but much like the desert, its people have survived. The Khur are a spirtural people and one of the few humans who held faith in the gods even after their long depature. Still despite the return of the gods, the nation of Khur is in dire straights.
To the south, the Minotaur invasion has driven the Silvenesti elves from their homeland. These elves now swarm to the Khur civilizations in hopes of finding shelter from the vast and unforgiving desert. But they are just one worry for Khur and its people. The Dark Knights, driven out by the Minotaurs have also moved into the region. Many suspect the Dark Knights have plans for Khur in their effort to create their "One World Order". Feared the most are the Minotaurs of the south, who now consolating their power and resources in Silvenesti and there is fears that Khur will be the next target in their military conquest.
The town of Pashin has become a boiling point in these potential conflicts. The town being a major trading hub in the Mikku region attracts numerous tradesmen and refugees from a number of nations. The coming of the Dark Knights however has brought the town under their dominion and making it a base of operations for their activities in the region. Still there are many that resent their grip upon the town and mount a resistance against these occupiers. This of course has also attracted the attention of some other factions in the fate of the town. This is where our story of the heroes of destiny begins.
The Knight: Gabriel Lucas Barca
Gabriel Lucas Barca is a Squire of the Crown on his quest for full knighthood with the Solamnic Knights. While the Knights of Solamnia have little influence in Khur, the nation is one of the strong points of power for their ally, the Legion of Steel. With the growing Dark Knight presence in the region, the Knights of Solamnia will not stand idly by and allow their mortal enemies to bring more regions under their sway. Travelling to the Legion Stronghold at Ak-Khurman, he meets with Lional Uth Dartan, the Solamanic representative where he is given an important assignment, to travel to the town of Pashin and retrieve an intelligence package from a legion spy by the name of Klaudia Lorn, the proprietor of Old Omar's Oddities. When meeting with her, he is to give the password "Star eyes" and she will know he is there to retrieve the package. By no means must the package fall into the hands of the Dark Knights. You are also warned not to reveal your affiliation while in the town for the Dark Knights will surely interrogate and then execute anyone who serves the Knights of Solamnia. So with that Drake travels across the vast desert with a Caravan, heading into the town of Pashin.
The Wizard: Terevalis Unctio of House Mysti
Six months have passed since the invasion of the minotaurs and Terevalis still bears the scars of his experience. The foul bull-men struck without warning and without mercy, breaching the gates of the city and striking down those brave enough to resist them. The tower of House Mysti was one of the foremost targets of the invasion and the wizards lacking in the power they once had could do little to resist them. Among the wizards that escaped was Terevalis Unctio who fled the city with other refugees. He would wander from place to place for months, not welcomed by the Khurites he met along the way. Eventually his journey lead him to Pashin where he took up residence in an underground colony, meeting with another wizard who escaped the invasion, Shaylin of House Mysti. Things have been dire for the elves in Pashin. A plague ravages through the population, inflicting them with an illness that was named "Sunblight". The more fortunate have been able to avoid the infection, but those under it have become sicked, pale and allergic to the touch of the sun, a horrifying curse for any elf. The few divine and arcane casters among the population are stumped on the cause for no spell has been found effective against it. Other than the cause of survival, some elves have helped with the resistance against the Dark Knights, while others have looked to other concerns.
The Cleric: Alathea of Solace
Alathea, a native of Solace in the land of Abanasinia and member of the Legion of Steel. Once a Legion Mystic that channeled the power of wild divine magic, she made choice to join the church of Zivilyn and channel her power directly from the God. While the Legion was accepting of her conversion many of her fellows did not follow such a path and chose to not change their divine focus. With the events to the east becoming dire Alathea was chosen to deliver some important documents to an agent in the town of Pashin, one known as Klaudia Lorn. She would enter the city under a guise of being a Cleric of Zivilyn wishing to pay homage at the Temple of the True Gods to avoid suspicion from the occupying Dark Knights and make sure the orders are delivered and then receive instructions of what to do next from there as there would be more Legion operations she would be involved with in the nation of Khur. After a long journey across numerous lands she finally arrives at the town of Pashin.
The Warrior: Jor Majere
Conflict is a business for many mercenary companies including the Brass Tiger Company seek out contracts that will make good use of their services. Jor Majere a young but skilled member of the Brass Tiger Company has spent time in Kern working with the Brass Tiger Company doing a number of contracts. Showing promise his commander Gwynneth Cordaric decided to send him on a mission into the nation of Khur. Hearing about the troubles there the Brass Tiger Company believes the inevitable conflict in that nation will increase the demand for mercenaries and thus is a business opportunity that they do not want to pass up. Thus Jor Majere has been sent on a scouting mission to the town of Pashin in order to scout out the Dark Knights, the Legion of Steel and other potential clients in the region. Whoever could pay the best price for their services would have the support of the Brass Tigers on their side in upcoming conflict. And thus Jor Majere traveled south and arrived after a journey to the town of Pashin, ready to do his mission.
The Wildlander: Mithas Aran
While the Kagnosti are far more widespread than their Qualnesti and Silvenesti bretheren even they were not untouched by the elven tragety. Mithas Aran was a Kagnosti living in a small settlement on the edges of the Silvanesti forest trying the best he could to survive in the dark and godless times. But when the Minotaurs came, they did not distingish between Silvanesti and Kagnosti. They marched through the forests , defiling the very land you called home. Even with your skills in archery and survival the minotaurs were too numerous and your village was destroyed and many of your people were enslaved. You were one of the lucky ones that were out hunting at the time of the attack. Driven from your homeland Mithas become a wanderer in the deserts, trying his best to survive in the desert. Eventually his travels led him to the town of Pashin where in his wanderings he sought to purchase some supplies as the desert offered little in terms of food and water. And thus this is where he resides at this moment.
The Story Begins....
Our story begins at midday on the 8th day of Aelmont (Winter). The sun is shining down but the town is not too hot as there is a cool breeze from the north on this day. Our characters are currently in the the Open Market of Pashin in the center of town. While Grand Baazar is on the ourskirts of the town, the Open Market is still a place of much commerce as there is numerous market stalls hawking various wares of all sorts. Despite the jovial sale of goods, there is a presence of warriors dressed all in black and a frightening demenor. All of you know these are Dark Knight soldiers who are the so called "Law" in these parts, although such a term could be used loosely. At this time all of you have a reason for being here at this time.
Terevalis Unctio, you are here doing some shopping for supplies, seeking to get your hands on few reagents for your spells. Mithas Aran is here shopping for produce, looking to get some vegetables in order to fulfill his sensitive palate. Jor Majere has arrived in the town by Caravan and has been given 20 Steel pieces for acting as a Caravan Guard for the duration of the trip. Gabriel Lucas Barca arrives with another caravan and enters the town wearing a robe over his armor and disguising his affiliations as he would certainly be arrested on sight by the Dark Knights if his affiliation were be to known and is also travelling through the market square. Finally Alathea of Solace is currently in the market square dressed in full robes of a Priestess of Zivilyn and heading towards the Temple of the True Gods in order to pay homage to her deity.
I will leave the floor open for some Roleplaying before we get to the first events of the game.
Alathea of Solace |
Alathea browses the wares of the numerous fruit stands. The hot weather of Khur brings upon a thirst she has known only on the hottest days in Solace.
Finding a vendor who is selling the freshest watermelon, she buys a small ripe one. As she pays she smiles gently at the vendor, "Good sir, can you tell me where I may find Klaudia Lorn? The blessing of Zivilyn is yours if you do".
Reinforce with Diplomacy check 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Mithas Aran |
Mithas peruses the stands, wrinkling his nose at the sickly sweet smell of overripe fruit. He pauses here and there looking over what's on offer, but is mostly disappointed. Granted it was the off season, but still, he had hoped that war wouldn't have so completely disrupted trade, but there you are. Finally, he decides to bargain with a dried fruit seller.
"Figs look good. Got any dates?"
Terevalis Unctio of House Mysti |
The elf will keep his hood over his head and his ears so as not to draw any undue attention to himself, though if someone were to hear him speak they would hear his Silvanesti accent. He notices the cleric of Zivilyn, nods and wonders if Quenesti Pah or the Bison of Heaven or Astarin or even the Blue Phoenix has abandonded the elves here.
Is there a mageware shop in the area or any place for Tower mages, even fledgling ones to get a hold of components, scrolls, stuff like that?
He is of House Mystic, the C is missing because of the number of characters
Terevalis Unctio of House Mysti |
The Silvanesti, overhearing the Kagonesti accent as he wanders near the date vendor will stop and nod and the Kagonesti and will say, in Elvish The dates are not very good here, child of E'li and will go on his way.
Jor Majere |
After the Long journey Jor finally got to Pashin. Thanking the caravan leader and wishing him all the best. Jor takes a look around and notices the huge amount of people currently occupating in Open Market.
Shuffling his Greatsword in more comfortable position on his back, grapping the backpack and heaving it over his left shoulder he approaches the nearest Merchant Good day sir, may I inquire if you happen to know a location for cheap inn where a poor man could rest his nights for reasonable prices? Jor smiles jovially and beaming confidence
Gabriel, The Just |
another Dark Knight. So many. I wonder why I was chosen for this mission. No I can't think that way. Self doubt is one of the greates defeaters of man. I am Gabriel Lucas Barca, Knight of the Crown. I will find this contact and complete my mission.
Gabriel wonders a bit being carful to avoid contact with people so that his robe stays shut tightly over his breastplate. He keeps his hood drawn up and walks with an old branch carved into a walking stick. He hunches his back and walks with a limp to also help avoid suspicion. He approaches a vendor that doesn't have many people and around.
"Excues me sir. I am tired and grow weary of the crowds. Can you direct me to Old Omar's Oddities. I thank you and offer you this for your trouble."
He holds out a steel piece for the man.
High God of Krynn |
Ok looks like a flurry of posts. I will break down the actions in order of the posting.
Alathea moves through the marketplace looking around at the produce. She buys herself a ripe lookning Watermellon for a price of 1 silver from a vender. The vender Samman appears to be a Khurish man dressed in simple desert garb and wearing a turban. When you buy the mellon he says, "Many thanks to you priestess of the Wise One. I can see the wisdom in your purchase of my fine foods."[/i]
When questioned about Klaudia Lorn, the seller says to you, "I am sorry priestess I have not heard of that name before during my time in this town. However my friend Akmed, who sells fine spices across the square makes a good deal of local trade. He may know where you can find this person you are looking for."
Mithas Aran heads to the date seller Marwan who calls out, "Sugar dates! Sugar dates and figs! Sweet and fresh for all to to taste."
When Mithas approaches and addresses him he takes a look at the elf and gives a wide smile although even he can tell its a facade knowing the Khur are not very liking of the elven refugees in the city but he seems like the sort not to turn down a potential customer. "Ah I see, a woodsy elf with a fine eye for produce. You want to buy some of my fine dates. I have dates of all sorts. Fresh Dates, Sugar Dates, Dried Dates, Sour Dates, whatever you need Marwan can provide you. The price a mere 5 coppers. Surely a good price for quality foods I assure you."
(Putting Terevalis's actions in a separate post as there is a LARGE info drop to give)
High God of Krynn |
As for the search Terevalis is doing for componets, this often involves dealing with numerous sellers to get what he needs. Unfortunately as it has been only six months since the Gods of Magic have returned, the number of wizards in the world have dwindled tremendously. It is mainly the long lived elves that have held onto the traditions of Wizardry in the wake of the God's return.
The few human members of the conclaive mainly consist of converted sorcerers, raw recruits or a handful of wizards that survived the Godless times. Still despite this two of the order masters are human and ex-sorcerers. Jenna of Palanthas has taken the mantle of the Mistress of the Red. Coryn Brinewater has taken the role of the Mistress of the White. And of course the most contraversial of all is Dalamar the Dark, a powerful dark elven wizard who now is the Master of the Black.
Stranger still is that the Orders of High Sorcery have been overhauled and many of the traditions have been changed. Because the Qualnesti Forest has become a VERY dangerous place in the wake of a large invasion of Goblins and hostile humans it is no longer prudent to have every potential wizard take a pilgrimage to the Tower of Wayreth for testing. As the order seeks to increase its numbers it does not want to put undue risk on potential recruits. Instead a number of wizards have been sent out into the world and establish enclaves in major settlements order to provide wizard services but also to bring in potential recruits. Testing is done locally by a skilled wizard who is given leyway to run the test out of their own enclave. The tower itself also offers testing for those willing to brave the dangers of the trip as well.
Suffice to say Pashin is not a significant enough settlement to have a Tower representative. Thus Terevalis must find his spell components by shopping from numerous sellers either in the marketplace and/or the bazaar. Then again he COULD try and cut a deal with the Dark Knights for some rare components but it would be a very difficult trade as the Dark Knights treat the elven people like dirt and even if he were to find someone willing to sell he would probably have to pay a much higher price.
Alathea of Solace |
"I thank you Samman. I shall seek out your friend, Akmed. May the blessings of Zivilyn illuminate your way".
As Alathea passes the white robed wizard she will nod back, odd so few of then left and this one here in Pashin..
She moves along despite run in seeking out Akmed.
High God of Krynn |
Jor Majere goes through the marketplace seeing numerous sellers selling a wide variety of goods. He also notices a presence of Dark Knights who seem to be acting as the "law" of this town. He approaches Akmed's Fine Spicewares and asks him about the location of the inns in the town. The well dressed khurish gentleman with black hair and a fine mustache says,
"Ah I see a traveller. Welcome to Pashin, the melting pot of trade of western Khur. Well then traveller if you are looking for a place to stay there is numerous inns willing to provide you a safe and welcome place to rest. The closest inn with fair prices would be the Five Dragon Inn and Tavern run by Emaline Yaseth, a fine woman who I often do business with. If you want more luxury rooms, the Wounded Crow has the best lodgings in town but I'ed be careful there as it is a rather roudy place to say the least. By the way, are you looking for a little spice in your life? I have some excellent spices for sale here. Either sprinkle them on your foods to make your meals explode with flavour or mix them into the cooking pot to make an excellent tasting meal."
As he is talking to Jor, Alathea approaches the stall so you can be free to interact with her if you wish.
Gabriel moves through the crowds, keeping a wide birth of the Dark Knight guardsmen that are positioned around the town. Sizing up the Dark Knights, you can see they are well equipped bearing chainmail, heavy shields, large and dangerous looking bastard swords and heavy crossbows and are pretty intimidating. Fortunately these seem like average foot soldiers and they are not overly perceptive. He approaches a stall with a sign that says Arfan's Excellent Leatherworks. He looks at Gabriel and says,
"Old Omars oddities? I don't know where that is sir. Besides why would you need oddities when I have got some non-odd fine leather works here. Could I interest you in this..." He pulls out a saddle, "Fine camel saddle. Very comfortable and good for the hips when riding your camel."
Jor Majere |
Jor looks through Akmeds wares and considers for a moment You know what, lets make a deal. You were helpful and quite informative so I will buy some spiceys, lets say, for 5 gold Jor laughs and start to pick up some gold Would you also be knowledgeable about current situation here regarding mercenaries and deployment of people? Maybe even recommend someone to go for small talk along some delicasies. I would really appreciate it as he hushes in a smaller voice and slipping more extra gold to Akmeks hands
Taking a glance at the Cleric leaving from the merchant, Jor can only shake his head Since Gods have come back, you can see again more and more of them. Could be a good option to visit later in some temples to get some information and gather some favors for Brass Tiger Company in exchange for some services
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
hmm, now I have hunger for some spicy stuff!
EDIT: - 7 Gold
High God of Krynn |
Akmed smiles and winks saying, "Ah I see you are a merchandising man , my kind of customer. You know fine quality when you see it. Let me give you some bags of my best spices. He gives you five pouches of a various mix of different coloured spices."
He then leans in close and says, "Well my friend, as you know the Dark Knights are the big players in town right now. They have a firm control of at least half the town. A lot of Nerakans have been encouraged to colonize into the town as well in order to solidify their position here. Many of my fellow Khurites here aren't to happy about that. There are rebels stirring up trouble for them and also they have been at odds with the elven refugees of the town as well. As for Mercenary work, you could maybe make a deal with the Mayor for employment or maybe offer your services to one of the other groups. The Blackbird I heard is not above hiring skilled personnel to do some jobs for him if that is what you are interested in."
Jor Majere |
Jor nods in agreement Thank you my friend. May the Gods bless you and your shop and bids his farewell. Hm, this information proves to be quite useful. I guess I will head first to Five Dragon Inn and Tavern and after that try to get some more information. Have to write that down for Commander Gwynneth or otherwise, uurgh, dont want to be at the end of that stick. Better to secure some contacts first. Mayor and Blackbird seems to be the most potential ones. Have to also visit Dark Knights HQ's after this
With these thoughts Jor slips back to the masses and exits to the same direction as the cleric before him
Gabriel, The Just |
"A saddle you say. Perhaps in my youth such a thing would have left me better equiped to get around today. Thank you for your time kind sir, but I have no need of leatherworking at the moment."
Gabriel makes his way back into the crowds.
Looks like I'm going to have to ask around a lot. Large place. Maybe I will hear a few rumors why I'm at it.
Gabriel takes his time wondering and chatting up with the locals in attempt to find Omar's Oddities as well as any rumors of interest in town.
Gather Information: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Wow, so good at this game first roll of the campaing being a 1 isn't ominous at all. Nice knowing all of you :)
Alathea of Solace |
As the warrior concludes his business and passes her by Alathea murmurs to him smiling sweetly, "The blessing of Zivilyn go with you, young warrior".
Once she is alone with Akmed she approaches, "Good day Akmed, Samman tells me that you have wares for sale and should I wish it, information as well".
Reinforce with Diplomacy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Terevalis Unctio of House Mysti |
The elf will go to the florist section of the bazaar and look for rose petals.
Good Florist, I am in need of rose petals, yellow if you have them
High God of Krynn |
Akmed says to Alathea, "Ah my good friend Samman. Always willing to send a good customer my way. You've come to the right person my good priestess. Akmed is always ready to be of service. So what kind of spice can I put in your life? Black Pepper? Arilis? Ginger? Karil? Cinnamon. You name it, Akmed can provide what you need."
As for Terevalis, he approaches Zahir's Boutanicals, that has some fine bouquets of different flowers for sale. He looks to him and says, "You have an eye for some beautiful flowers it seems. Yes I have some fine selection of roses. What are you looking for? Red roses, white roses or desert roses?"
As for Gabriel the Just, he asks around with numerous merchants for directions only to get hooked into numerous sale pitches of items and merchants uninterested to give him directions unless he purchases something. Unless he shells out some money on goods he is unable to find information on Old Omars Oddities in his initial search.
BTW Jor Majere, you would have paid the merchant in steel. Gold is totally inflated in the Dragonlance Economy as its so brittle that it makes poor material for making weapons. Gold coins are not used as currency anymore although there are gold coins of ancient civilizations and to right seller its worth 5 coppers to a gold coin if you can find someone that can take it. Any gold pieces you would normally have are Steel Pieces.
Terevalis Unctio of House Mysti |
Tell me, good florist, which of these would you recommend to help in the making of tea to aid in dormition? White? Red? Black perhaps?
Alathea of Solace |
Alathea looks over the spice peddled by the merchant. She places her small watermelon in her backpack and pulls out some steel. "An old friend of mine, Klaudia Lorn, was a fan of cinnamon. I am on my way to the Temple on pilgrimage to celebrate the "return" of the Gods but I wish to stop and see her and cinnamon would make a wonderful gift. Tell me, do you know where she may be working here in Pashin? Her letter to me was marred by rain and I could not read it in its entirety".
High God of Krynn |
Zahir says to Terevalis, "I would recommend the red and yellow desert roses. If you crush them up, mix them up in hot water and drink them they can allow you to have a fitful sleep. Their smell is divine as well.
He shows him a bouquet of flowers that are a light red with some yellow. Think of them sort of like Opium as their effects
Akmed takes a steel from Alathea, measures out a pouch of Cinnamon and gives it to Alathea. He then says, "I hope my Cinnamon can bring you some sweetness in your life priestess. As for Klaudia Lorn, indeed I know of her. She is quite a gruff and burly woman to say the least but I have done some sales to her Apothecary. Her shop is to the northwest of here down Ruhiz Alleyway. She has a fine selection of potions and other minor magical trinkets. I am sure she could always use more spice for her potion making. As for the temple itself, it is a wonderful place to visit. We among the Khur never lost faith in the Gods and their return has brought much rejoicing among my people. May the Gods guide your path good Priestess."
High God of Krynn |
Zahir says to Terevalis, "For the bouquet a mere Four Steel pieces. They should be most useful to you i am sure"
Anyway since people are in the motion of moving away from one another I shall get to the next event.
While everyone is doing their own thing in the open market, a group of six scruffy looking individuals looking to be of Nerakan in appearance, dressed in leather armor, carrying shields on their back and carrying short swords and saps at their side enter the area where you all are. They approach a figurine dealer's stall. Their leader speaks with the proprietor of the stall and talks to the merchant. He then reaches into a sack he had brought with him and pulls out an Onyx Statuette in the shape of a panther. The merchant's eyes widen as he looks at the pristine figurine. This in itself does not attract too much attention as the Open Market is a melting pot of many different people and much is sold and traded.
What does attract attention is that a finely dressed Silvanesti elf with silvery hair dressed in attire of a courtier of Silvanost is walking by. He sees these men and his face contorts from a look of indifference to that of anger. He storms up to the the men raising his voice and says, "You Fiends! You dare steal the heritage of my people and sell it like baubles in the Open Market! Have you no shame for your crimes against my people?"
The thugs turn to look at the angry elf and then laugh a hearty laugh. The head thug then says, "Yea, so what you pritzy little elf? You didn't have the guts to hold onto this stuff so what we're doing with it is fair game."
The elf looks even more flustered and yells, "It is hard enough that my people have been driven from their homes by the filthy bull men and forced to live in the squalor of this human infested town. What is worse is seeing you dammed humans profiteering off of ill gotten gains pilfered from the homes of my people. I demand you hand over the goods to me you thugards for they do not belong to you."
The head thug gives an evil smirk and says, "So the pritzy elf thinks he's a tough guy huh? You really don't know who you're messing with Knife Ears."
Another thug says, "Hey Nedd, this elf looks cleaner than those beggars we've been seeing on the street. He's likely got some steel in his purse."
Nedd thug leader grins wider, showing his dirty unkept teeth. "Ya know Gentz, you're probably right." He snaps his fingers and then he and the rest of his thugs pull out their saps.
The elf reacts by drawing his impressive looking rapier with a flourish and points it at the thugs. Despite being majorly outnumbered, the elf is enraged enough that he does not seem to want to give ground to these thugs.
So how does everyone respond to this?
Alathea of Solace |
Alathea walks towards the altercation, "Peace! Stay your hand goodmen. This elf airs his grievances and frustration. Bloodshed here is poorly timed and even more poorly received. I beseech you to collect yourselves and lower your weapons. The Dark Knights do not take kindly to fighting unless they are the ones who began the swordplay".

What is the alignment of the moons?
Jor Majere |
Seeing the commotion between elf and group of thugs Jor moves a bit closer to see what is happening when suddenly a cleric appears to try to calm the situation from turning worse.
Assessing the situation and thinking of possible outcomes this might prove an useful way to promote Brass Tiger Company's name. Jor steps forward to bring his steel in the mettle Well, hello there lads and my lady. What our lovely Lady said is from all the perspectives right. However, I HAVE to side with the gentlemen here because even if they did grap this Onyx Statuette Jor pointing at the mentioned item
It does now belong to them now at least. Finders, keepers as the saying goes. I would also like to remind you that even if those Minotaurs did drive you out of home, they are threat against everyone, not just towards elves. We all need to live from something. And this human infested town was so kind as to let you in... when everyone else you would be kicked around Jor reminds him with harsh words.
The job of adventurer, mercenary or anything in those lines is not easy
I do find that Jor has some rights with the situation no matter how it could be wrong. Will thrive for some interesting roleplay at least
EDIT: Yap, situation developing quite fast. At least 2 of them are awake as it seems. Want me to roll for Diplomatic / Intimidate?
High God of Krynn |
The alignment of the moons are:
Solinari: Low Sanction
Lunarti: Waxing Gibbous
Nuitari: First Quarter
So currently you are a -1 caster level unfortunately.
Anyway the humans are all 1 HD bandits so up to 4 can be affected by the spell.
As for Alathea she stops them with her appeals for a moment as the head thug gives a grunt and says, "The dark knights ain't going to give a crud if we rough up an elf. Stay out of this as it ain't your business."
And then a spell hits them by surprise.
Will Save Thug Leader: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Will Save Thug 4: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
High God of Krynn |
Only one of the thugs suddenly slumps over while the others feel a bit drowsy and look around, The thug leader says "Huh, what was that. as he looks around in confusion. The other thugs also look around wondering just what hit them. The Elf takes advantage of this distraction and tries to put a rapier through the leader's arm.
Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
He stabs into the man for 1d8 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 + 1 = 7
The man yelps in pain and drops the sack. The Elf grabs the sack as his move action. And holds his rapier at the thugs threateningly. "Stand back ruffians! I am taking what belongs to my people back to those it belongs!"
The head thug says, "He has the goods! Get him!" As he kicks the sleeping thug awake and the other thugs prepare to beat the elf into a bloody pulp with cudgels.
However another affect of this is that now the Dark Knights are paying attention as an Elf has openly assaulted a Nerakan in the marketplace, which will attract some attention. The closest dark knight guardsman will arrive in 1d6 ⇒ 3 rounds.
High God of Krynn |
Indeed we shall roll for initiative. As this could be a combat I will create a battle map.
Well Dressed elf 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Bandit Leader 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Bandit 1 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Bandit 2 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Bandit 3 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Bandit 4 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Bandit 5 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
The Dark Knight guardsman will enter initative in 3 rounds at 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18
High God of Krynn |
Ok here is the battle map in a google doc:
Jor and Alathea are near the thugs, Mithas, Gabriel and Terevalis are at nearby stalls.
Usually most PC's avoid a fight here with some successful diplomacy/intimidate checks (either on the Thugs or the Elf) but as Terevalis created a distraction and the elf REALLY wants to get the stolen goods he took advantage of it to disarm Nedd of the bag and take it. Thus a real fight is on now.
And yes each square is 5 feet unless I say otherwise.
Mithas Aran |
"Five coppers for dates, that's downright highway robbery, I couldn't possibly pay more than..." Mithas trails off at the commotion that erupts behind him. Seeing a Silvanesti arguing with some humans he goes to turn back, but stops short when the 'knife ears' taunt comes Racial pride has to count for something..
Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Gabriel continues to wonder frustrated at all the sales pitches.
I have made so little headway. Is this place that hard to find? Looks like I will need to part with some steel to find it. Oh what is that. That elf shouldn't be so bold here. That escalated quickly. Ah the Dark Knights are watching. It looks like others are trying to help the elf. I shouls see what I can do.
Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
On Gabriels turn he will limp over to the closes Thug and take his staff(Warking Stick) up in both hands.
"You have no respect. Leave this poor man alone."
Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 4 = 20 Non Lethal
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Jor Majere |
Initiative 21
As the situation escalates quickly Jor decides that best option is get rif of the weapon, which the elf currently holds.
Grapping his Greatsword and moving swiftly next to him as he brings his Greatsword down upon his rapier

Terevalis Unctio of House Mysti |
In elven The relics of my people are not lightly forgotten nor given up to the cretinish thieves or their allies. and begins to chant again.

Casting Acid Splash at one of the Nerakans.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 ranged touch attack
1d3 ⇒ 2
Alathea of Solace |
Initiative 3
Alathea will Channel the divine energy of Zivilyn bringing weal to these Ruffians.
I will Selectively Channel the elf and the other non-ruffian combatants (ie.e PC's) out so as to not receive any negative energy I will be releasing. Save DC 15.
Channel Negative Energy 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Edit, had to add the +1 forgot it before.
High God of Krynn |
Alathea, I don't think Zivilyn would grant Channel Negative Energy to his Clerics. He is the Tree of Life and the God of Wisdom. I'ed rather you have Channel Positive Energy for your character as the group could use additional healing, especially since Wands of Healing won't be in abundance in this setting. Perhaps you'ed like to change your action to something else. I didn't notice that you took Channel Negative Energy as an ability.
Jor takes his Greatsword and brings it down on the Elf's Rapier. The weapon strikes the rapier and badly damages it. A lesser weapon would likely be split in half but this blade is crafted with quality and crackles with a bit of magical energy. Still the might of the blow is enough to disarm the Elf of his rapier as he does not have the might to hold his weapon in response to such a resounding blow.
You can apply power attack to a Sunder Attempt
High God of Krynn |
Bandit 1 spends his turn waking up as he gets kicked by Nedd. The other bandits snicker seeing the elf now lacking a weapon and bandits 4 and 5 close in to pummel him with their cugels.
Bandit 5: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Bandit 6: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
The elf evades the blow of the first bandit. The second bandit strikes a glancing blow on the elf but his quickness evades the force behind the blow and his padded clothing absorbs the rest of the damage.
The elf on his turn sees he's being surrounded utters a prayer in elvish and does some hand motions. Those who understand elvish hear that he is invoking Branchala to hide him from the sight of his enemies.
Defensive Cast: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
He suddenly disappears from view from all onlookers.
The Bandits look around frantically "Oai, where did that bastard elf go? That's magical trickery if I've ever seen it."
Nedd yells, "Find that blasted Knife Ears! He has our loot!"
Alathea of Solace |
I chose as a Feat Versatile Channeling, allowing Alathea to Channel Positive or Negative energy. Zivilyn is a Neutral God. As a Neutral God, Clerics have to choose one or the other, utilizing the Versatile Channel Fear allowed me to not have to choose. If you disallow that Feat, that is fine and I will select another Feat and change my action for that round.
Alathea of Solace |
Zivilyn is deity of wisdom, enlightenment, and insight. His realm is awareness, balance, and understanding. I always considered Mishakal as the Goddess of Life. BUT the DM is the final arbiter! So I selected Combat Casting as my replacement Feat. In lieu of my original action, I will cast defensively the Command spell targeting the Leader of the Ruffians ordering him to FLEE! He gets a Will save DC 15.
"FLEE. Ruffian and take your bandits with you!"
High God of Krynn |
Bandit Leader: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 Will Save
The Bandit Leader suddenly looks flighty. On his next action he will be forced to run away.
Now that the elf has vanished those of you with lower initiative than the elf are free to change their action if this action would affect the action you take.
If Gabriel wacks one of the bandits he hits him hard. Because he got a surprise hit on him it also knocks him prone. He's not unconscious but he's winded from the tough blow across his back. I will use the brown shade to designate the prone position. Two bandits are currently prone, one from the blow and one from just waking up from unconsciousness.
If Terevalis is still acid splashing a bandit he gets hit and screams in pain, "Curse dammit it burns!
Another bandit points to Terevalis "Another bloody elf! They must be working together!
As for the other bandits that have not gone they're looking around for the Elf so spend their turns trying to figure out where he went.
