Alchemy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Olp sniffs at the fumes rising from the pool below, but does not seem to recognize the scent. He turns away from the cliff, keeping an eye out for anyone moving their way.

That's improvement!

anything from Jeji, Dranjek, or Sarahthenal? Jeji might be able to make the alchemy roll above and someone should take some know(local) ranks next level.

Reep mulls over the potion shop idea in light of their dwindling supplies. "Sssince we need the sssuppliess, I sssuppose it would be best to raid the ssshop. But we must be quick and quiet!"

Sa'rah'then'al looks over the pool trying to understand what has happened. He looks into his pack and pulls out everything inside to see what the chieftain had given him.

Knowledge Arcana/Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Sa'rah'then'al looks over at Reep and Jeji and nodded "Indeed, we ssshould plunder what we need from the filthy humansss. If you can make ussse of their sssuppliesss then go and fetch them." he said as he tried to figure out how to revive the Violet Flame.

Male Kobold Cavalier 1

Dran speaks to the others:

"I am not as skilled at sneaking as the rest of you. I will stand watch outside, making use of the shadows. If you find a blanket or cloak, it would be most helpful."

Sarahthenal's gift is a devil box- a puzzle box that is notoriously hard to open if you don't know the trick to it. Fortunately, Sarahthenal was closely instructed and he gets it open. A strange object pops out. Evidently, the box can hold one object three times it's size because the thing is a flat panel some 18 inches high and 12 wide. It appears to be a pane of translucent blue material framed in strange metal.

Suddenly, it hisses and the startled kobold nearly drops it as the image of a human head appears on the pane!

HP 14/14; AC 15 T 15 FF11; CMB -1, CMD 13; F+1, R+4, W+4; Init +1, Perc +1;

Reep leans close to Sarahthenal and peers closely at the puzzle box. "Interesting..." He murmurs.

I will be traveling over the July 4th weekend, so expect posts to be slow until next week. Thanks!

Male Kobold Cavalier 1

Dran also sees the human head appear, and he can't control his facial expressions as per normal. His eyes actually grow wide and a loud hiss escapes his mouth!

"What devilry is this? What could this mean?"

The image of a human woman's head opens its eyes which glow like lovely blue radiation. There are also glowing runes on her cheeks. She blinks and speaks in the common human tongue. "Who are you?"

HP 14/14; AC 15 T 15 FF11; CMB -1, CMD 13; F+1, R+4, W+4; Init +1, Perc +1;

Reep hisses loudly as he pulls back. In Draconic he hisses "Cover it! Cover it!"

Male Inquisitor 2 CN small humanoid, AC 16, touch 14, flat-footed 13, 7/15 Init +6, Perception +8

Sa'rah'then'al looks at it in bewilderment and intrigue. His first glimpse had surprised him enough to drop it but now he stalked around it like a wounded animal.

He held up his claws for silence to Dranjek and Reep. He clears his throat and looks upon the visage. "I am Sa'rah'then'al, ssson of Gakzara the King of Blight. I was tasssked by the chieftain to bring you here..." he said in an authoritative voice.

The human image does the wrinkly skin thing humans do when confused. "Bring me here? Why?"

Olp, slitted eyes darting back and forth between each of his companions and the strange contraption holding a human head, watches then all warily. This strange new magic is something even he has never seen before.

Kobold Inactive

Jeji tries to think back to see if she ever remembers hearing about something like this.

Knowledge (engineering): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Don't know if it matters, but she also has the technologist feat.

Male Inquisitor 2 CN small humanoid, AC 16, touch 14, flat-footed 13, 7/15 Init +6, Perception +8

Sa'rah'then'al looked at the head and tilted his own. "We were to bring you to the Violet Flame but the humans have desssicrated it and the flame is dead. I assume you were to be an offering to the god that lived here. I only hope that he esscaped." he said as he began to tap on the contraption with a claw.

The thing is technology, but far beyond anything Jeji has seen before. The transparent part that the image appears in looks like glass, but is far harder. The head within shakes from side to side. "God? I do not know.... But I sense something. Down there at the foot of this hill." The glowing eyes indicate the part of the settlement near the potion shop you spotted earlier.

HP 14/14; AC 15 T 15 FF11; CMB -1, CMD 13; F+1, R+4, W+4; Init +1, Perc +1;

Reep hisses and steps back. "I do not like thisss! What is thisss abomination?"

Kobold Inactive

Jeji is going to quietly try to sneak back down to the potion shop and slowly and quietly as she can, taking care to stick to the shadows as much as possible.

Olp softly hisses as one of the new kobolds wanders off. He stays with the group but watches after the departing one for as long as he can see him.

The reminder of the potion shop is all Jeji needs and he begins slinking back down the hill.

OK, I'm back!

HP 14/14; AC 15 T 15 FF11; CMB -1, CMD 13; F+1, R+4, W+4; Init +1, Perc +1;

Reep looks between the slinking kobold and the human head in a jar and decides that it's best that the slinker have backup. He nods to Olp, gestures toward Jeji and heads after her, keeping shady as well.

Reep catches up with Jeji while Olp looks to the inquisitor and standard bearer for their next move.

Sarahthenal and Dranjek?

Male Kobold Cavalier 1

"What now, honored one? Should we explore where this talking head described?"

Male Inquisitor 2 CN small humanoid, AC 16, touch 14, flat-footed 13, 7/15 Init +6, Perception +8

Sa'rah'then'al clicked his claws against his chin as he contemplated what the...human had said. He opened back up his pack and shoved the contraption back inside. "Ssstay quiet while we invessstigate." he said simply before turning to the others.

"We will believe the human for now, come let usss join Jeji and get sssuppliesss then we ssshall ssseek out what the human mentioned." he said before he began to lead the troup back down the hill.

Sarahthenal ponders the "human" image a moment and then shoves it back into his pack with a touch of suspicion. oh, NO!

The kobold war band make their way back down the path around the barren slope and into the settlement once more. Somewhere in the distance a dog continues barking, but no one is seen on the dark streets. The other kobolds reach the potion shop just behind Jeji and Reep.

breaking and entering strategy?

Draco Voodoo wrote:

Yes!

Male Kobold Cavalier 1

Dranjek will not be suited to the breaking, but he's happy to do some entering. Or he can try to hide off in the shadows, being brighter and noisier.

I need disable device rolls, who's entering, stealth rolls, yadda yadda...

Male Kobold Cavalier 1

Dranjek will pull up in the shadows of an adjacent alley, if possible.

Stealth: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 4 = 7

EDIT: Thanks for the reminder about the size bonus Olp! I will be putting a rank or 2 in Stealth at next level, unless the GM wants to let me do a "retrain". Hard to overcome a Nat 1 though.

Dranjek the Bold wrote:

[dice=Stealth]1d20+2

pffft. Dranjek the Bulb that is. Lightbulb. Good thing that he wasn't going in :)

@Dranjek - That has to be at least 4 higher for being small.

Olp hides in the shadows in the alley between the shop and it's neighbor.

Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23

Jeji moves to unlock the door.

The thieves tools passed down, where they regular or masterwork?

Can I take 20 on the Disable Device check?

Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18 Reep will go in, keeping close to the alchemist, gun drawn and loaded.

Jeji the Unstable wrote:

yes, mw tools and yes, take 20.

Dranjek and Olp move around the side of the building to hide. One more successfully than the other whose gold scales still gleam a little in the faint moonlight. Jeji takes her time to work the lock. It is a decent lock, but eventually clicks open. Carefully opening the door, she enters the front room with Reep armed and right behind.

Sarahthenal- in or out?

At the sound of the metallic click, Olp peers around the corner to check on his fellow kobold. At Jenji's entrance into the shop, the violet scaled kobold sneaks after him.

Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25

Keeping an eye for danger.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Male Inquisitor 2 CN small humanoid, AC 16, touch 14, flat-footed 13, 7/15 Init +6, Perception +8

Sa'rah'then'al follows along behind the others, slipping carefully into the shop. He was in need of a better weapon, the bow didn't do enough to save his comrades earlier and when things got up close he just didn't have any real options. He looked about the shop with curiosity.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Are there any noticeable lights burning in the shop? Jeji is looking for a backpack and potions mainly, but isn't opposed to taking anything that looks expensive.

stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

The sign above the door reads 'Tempting Tonics' and indeed they must be as everyone except the rather shiny kobold knight enters the small shop. It is unlit within though red hot cinders beneath a big cauldron in the large fireplace at the back of the room give a murky light.

The remaining wall space is occupied by shelves filled with bottle and bins. There is a counter and a workspace with a table and a reclining chair. A quick glance at a couple bottles by Jeji identifies the proprietor as a witch rather than an alchemist.

At least the potion maker doesn't reside in the shop though. It is likely that the private quarters are behind the door next to the hearth in the far wall. The room is not totally unoccupied however, a big black bird perches above the hearth. As Jeji paws through the vials, a beady black eye pops open and the bird emits a loud call of alarm.

"QUARK!! QUARK!!"

sorry, dice did not go your way.

Kobold Inactive

Jeji says in Draconic "Grab what you can and leave, we have less than 10 seconds to be out the door and on our way."

Jeji spends a full round action to grab as many potions as she can and takes a 5-foot steps towards the door they came in.

HP 14/14; AC 15 T 15 FF11; CMB -1, CMD 13; F+1, R+4, W+4; Init +1, Perc +1;

Reep hisses and murmurs a word of magic as a cone of color blasts the black bird! Using arcane bond to cast color spray, Will DC14

Assuming the bird is out of reach over the hearth...

Olp hisses at the blackbird, but at Jenji's insistance, he grabs two armfuls of whatever sat next to him before stepping towards the door.

Speaking as a free action, full round action to scoop up goodies and treats, then 5' toward the door.

EDIT: Wait a minute! Holding the above to see the results of Reep's action.

Wait a another minute! Reep- I believe arcane gun replaces arcane bond for spellslingers.
Let's go with appraisal skill checks for everyone to see if you managed to grab anything good.

HP 14/14; AC 15 T 15 FF11; CMB -1, CMD 13; F+1, R+4, W+4; Init +1, Perc +1;

Doh! I thought the gun was my bond item. I see, in that case, grabbing stuff and running!

Dranjek hears the commotion from the shop, and tenses in the alley. He gets ready to run as soon as the others appear.

Rolled mine earlier unless you want me to roll it again.

The kobolds grab what they can and flee the loud guard bird by running back out into the night. Jeji will have to check it all out later. There is no immediate pursuit, but it would be best to move on quickly.

Reviewing what you know of the area: East back over the river is mainly farms, South looks like more houses, North is the pond and the black hill, West is an area of businesses and the exposed trail back down from the escarpment.

"North is where the pond and black hills are, that's were we lost the slurps and fought the worms?"

no. That was several days travel back at the Gorum Pots. Black Hill is where the flame used to be. It's where you just were. The pond lies at the foot of it and there aren't any structures near it other than a strange palace with pipes.

found this. You're lower left.
