Everyone is starting to feel ill from the strange device, so Perrik pokes at it until it stops making the horrible sound. As the kobolds gather their things to go, Sarahthenal holds up a scaly claw.
"Wait, I have been thinking," the inquisitor begins. "I must find Olp, but I believe that we must help our new allies as well. We have nearly lost our lair and they have lost theirs to this Hellion and its lackey, Meyanda. It is not wise for kobolds to travel in smaller numbers than necessary, but I believe it is now necessary. Dranjek and I will look for Olp. Jeji and Reep, you will stay with Drahlneep and help these new kobolds."
"If we find Olp quickly, we will look for you in the Hidden Ones' caves. If not, then we will return to our home down the Dragontongue River to tell Yammarayk, if he still lives, that we have not found the Dragon in the Mountain of Violet Fire, but there are others up there that we might join. You should help these others reclaim their home and come seek us if you succeed."
"As you wish wise one. Good journey, and may the dragon watch over you. Until we next meet." Jeji bows and bids Sarahthenal goodbye and begins packing up everything that she can.
Jeji wouldn't really question Sarahthenal's plan. She would just try to carry it out as best she could.
Vornop |
Vornop nods with a small hiss of thanks.
"The fight ahead will be a challenge, but we knew that coming. Revenge, we shall have!"
Ditto; aside from being a scaredy lizard and not trusting many scaled, non-albino kobolds (so, pretty much everyone else), Vornop will gladly go along. His home was destroyed too.
Draco Voodoo |
Having said their tender good-byes, at least as tender as kobolds get, the two war bands go their separate ways. The sky has not begun to lighten yet though the blinding day is not far off. At least the streets of the town are still quiet and Jeji quickly leads the way away from the buildings to the stream that leads back to the flooded quarry with the underwater passage.

Well those are pretty good. Does he know anything helpful about the passage, or maybe a way to get through without having to hold their breath the whole time?
Vornop hisses at the path ahead.
"I do not like to swim. Must we go this way?"
Jeji the Unstable |
"There is a tunnel under the water that leads to the metal caves, where the purple-haired woman went. We must follow her and take whatever she is after. The swim can be dangerous, but less so if we rest first. Drahlneep is exhausted, I am out of potions and Reep's weapon is broken. The other side of the tunnel was clear when we left, but may not be so anymore. We rest here and the make the swim. I'll take the first watch and Drahlneep can take the next."
Draco Voodoo |
how about some random encounters?
2d20 ⇒ (17, 19) = 36 or not.
The kobolds find a secluded corner of the quarry to rest and rest as best they can under the bright sun. Fortunately, none of the humans wander up from their village. Having recovered and repaired their equipment, the kobolds plan their swim down to the tunnels once again.
swim DC 10. You can take 10 though that only works for Drahlneep and Vornop. Also the 50 pound power relay will be difficult to manage. someone give me a plan.
Perrik |
How long is the underwater passage? I'm thinking we have the strong ones go first with a rope, and the rest of us hand-over-hand along it. We either conceal the power relay in the quarry or send one of the strong ones back to tie the rope to it and guide it while the rest of us pull it through the passage.

Jeji the Unstable |
"Drahlneep, swim to the other side with this rope. Most of us will follow after the rope is secured. We'll tie the rope around the heavy box and try to pull it through. I'll stay on this side until everyone is through and come over once the box is safe on the other side. Any questions?"
Drahlneep |
Drahlneep holds his breath and moves slowly but surely through the water, gasping when he emerges on the other side. So sick of doing that!
He locates the best anchor point he can find and after tying the rope, tugs it sharply twice, signalling he is ready. He then keeps a watchful eye on both his surroundings and the rope, ready to grab it should it come loose.
Draco Voodoo |
Nerves shot from spending too much time under the unnatural bright glare of the sun, Reep gets a bit excited. Drahlneep takes the rope and dives into the pool disappearing into a hole in the side of the flooded quarry. Reep protects his musket and follows as soon as the rope twitches, swimming hard until he finally reaches air and darkness. Perrik is next closely followed by Jeji. It is unnerving to be uncertain when one can breathe again, but Perrik steadies his nerves and with Jeji pushing him forward, he eventually surfaces in the unlit cave with the others. Vornop remains behind to secure the big artifact.
Perrik |
Perrik surfaces with a gasp, panting for breath and spitting foul water. "Maybe this was why Sah decided he had something else important to do!" The oracle makes his way out of the water and looks around his surroundings with interest.
Draco Voodoo |
Vornop seems to be delayed in following. The other kobolds take a moment to dry themselves of the weird foul smelling water. The room looks as Jeji remembers it, the shallow water draining from around the bend and a narrow dry passage up a short climb nearby. The fumes from the pool seem concentrated here and make their stomachs lurch queasily. fort DC 11 or sickened
Not only that, but there is a snuffling noise from the passage up the slope.
Perrik |
DC 11 Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Drahlneep |
Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Drahlneep frowns at the rope and does not seem to notice the vapors at all. When he hears the noise, he readies his weapons. Come on, Vornop...We might have a fight on our hands!
Jeji the Unstable |
Jeji tries to swallow down the sickening feeling rising in the back of her throat, but that just turned into a coughing fit. She tried to clamp her mouth shut and hold it in but that didn't seem to help much. Upon hearing the noise ahead, she retreated back near the water to put as much distance between herself and the noise. She pulled out a bomb just in case and tried hard not to drop it.
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Draco Voodoo |
Surprisingly, only Jeji is overcome by the polluted water. Every kobold prepares in its own way: Jeji retreats, but is ready with an explosive concoction, Drahlneep steps to the front with weapons ready, Reep loads and takes cover. Perrik's hanging question goes unanswered until a pair of creatures appears in the tunnel entrance overhead. There's a surface orc with a glowing rod wielding a big jagged piece of metal like a sword. And with him a strange wolf-sized creature that's kinda cougar-like in the muzzle and whiskers but with uncougar-like stripes and a fat tail. It switches from snuffling noises to loud yips and bays as it spots the kobolds.
