Kate, the character concept sounds fine. The process of joining is, well, competitive -- everyone posts their draft characters and backgrounds, I pick the ones that look most interesting / playable / fun. Right now there are about 22 people competing for 5 spaces. If you want a place, take a shot -- write up a character and post it.

A couple of tips (which are for everyone, obviously):

-- read the OP
-- race and class don't much matter in terms of getting you in. Half-drow synthesist or plain simple human fighter... either can be made to shine. -- 80% of final grade (not that there is a final grade, but you know what I mean) is your backstory, character description, and motivations.
-- not gonna lie: spelling, grammar and presentation all matter. We may be locked in a small virtual room with each other for months. If you write that your character attacked his enemies by "burning they're house down", well, I just know that over time that sort of thing is going to drive me slowly nuts. Sorry. (N.B., if you're not a native English speaker, say so -- that's different.)
-- crisp, clear, and creative writing! Man, we're going to be WRITING for each other's entertainment. Let me break that out a little.

Crisp... Do not give me a 1500 word Wall Of Text to tell me that your character had an unhappy childhood.
Clear... itse;f I guess it speaks for, if you know what I mean, what you're writing should be, right, understand, like when you canfollow it and stuff.
Creative... make it interesting! Action verbs, cool stuff happening, unexpected twists, whatever. Don't bore us. That's probably the single biggest thing.

There are already so many submissions that it hardly matters. So, if you want to make up a second character and submit it too... go for it!

I like the basic idea: paladin resists temptation... and gets unfairly clobbered for it! That's great. I also like that it's a complex fall, not just one thing; most of us don't turn Evil from a single bad experience.

The tricky bit I see here is that this character would logically be a raving misogynist. Which could make a great evil NPC, but could be hard for other PCs to work with.

Bref wrote:

Only if Judge Tohram gets to drain and drink the blood first.

Okay, we're over 30 submissions. That's a lot.

So, ATTENTION EVERYONE. NEW RULE.

I said we'd run this to Saturday morning and that still holds. But: I'm going to close submissions at 10 am EDT (Eastern US Daylight Savings Time) on _Friday_. That's a bit under 20 hours from right now.

Shortly after that, I will announce ten (10) finalists for the five slots. I'll ask the finalists if they want to tweak or change their submissions; they'll have 24 hours to do that. On Saturday morning I'll announce who's in. (Yes: we are kicking this Eurovision style.)

Furthermore. The five slots will one for each of the Classic Four -- Melee, Arcane, Divine, and Skill. The fifth slot will be wide open. This is, frankly, to make it easier for me; I can say "okay, who are the best ones from Divine" and I'm choosing 2-3 out of maybe 10 choices instead of trying to pick all 10 out of 30 or 40. Bite-size chunks, yeah?

So: 19 hours and 15 minutes.

cheers,

Doug M.

I also remembered to spell-check my revised background.

Got to love it when an evil campaign attracts so much evil that's not simply just chaos and mayhem..its ordered chaos and mayhem!

I made this character for another game, and for whatever reason, he is my favorite of the concepts I've come up with. It's probably that he's a delightfully simple character while making sense and not being overly trite. I used the point buy because when I used the focus and foible system he wound up with a wisdom of 8.

Basics:
Full Name: Rorgar Borga
Race: Dwarf
Class: Inquisitor (Asmodeus) 1
Gender: male
Size: 4'4” 220lbs
Age: 60
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Deity: Asmodeus
Location: Branderscar Prison
Languages: Common, Dwarven
Occupation: Inquisitor

Strength 17
Dexterity 12
Constitution 16
Intelligence 10
Wisdom 16
Charisma 8

Background:
Rorgar Borga has always been an Inquisitor, not always of Asmodeus, but the job has always been little more than an excuse for his thuggish behavior. The church of Mitra learned early on that he was more of a bounty hunter than holy warrior, but they kept him on, because they hoped the teachings of Mitra would get through to him and lead him into the light. The opposite happened. As he hunted down and slew worshipers of Asmodeus, Rorgar began to notice more and more downtime between missions. He came to realize that he was putting himself out of a job.

Shortly after realizing this, he was sent after an Asmodean cleric. He pulled the holy symbol off the corpse and offered up his prayer to his church's enemy. Rorgar claimed that he had no use for peace in Talingarde, and that the Asmodeans he'd killed were weak, unworthy of the Lord of Hell. He promised he would do a better job than all the rest, and then carved Asmodeus's pentagonal symbol on the back of his own.

Very little changed after he turned from Mitra, Rorgar even managed to keep it a secret for a few weeks; he assumed it was because he was usually given a task and then left to his own devices. Rorgar had hoped to be able to keep his allegiance to himself, even as he began working against Mitra, but it was not to be. His first, and so far only victim was a priest he'd of known who'd been 'redeemed', turning from Asmodeus to Mitra. He'd even managed to make a name for himself, with his own church that he ministered to. One night Rorgar went to great effort to desecrate the man's church, going so far as to paint the symbol of Asmodeus on the floor in animal blood. Rorgar didn't realize that there had been a witness, and so was caught and sentenced to die.

One more thing about motivations, he started out at Lawful Neutral, and then moved to Lawful Evil when he turned to Asmodeus. He is lawful mainly because he sees himself as an enforcer, and there can be no enforcement without a strong code of laws.

Also, this character was made for a different WotW game that used it's own houserules. That said, I think I have removed the stuff that no longer applies, but if you see anything that looks questionable, feel free to ask.

Evil is measured in nazis. As in:

"I can barely detect any evil here -- less than twenty millinazis."

Or...

"There is overwhelming evil here, easily three meganazis!"

Mogander has had nice women in his past as well, mainly thinking of the matrons of the orphanage where he grew up. As a result he doesn't hate women in general but is very distrusting of young and/or attractive women.

If evil is measure in nazis, what is good measured in?

Lawful Evil - it is all about the rules. And loopholes. And getting others to sign contracts that are greatly to their disadvantage.

Oh yeh, and then there is always the important question of exactly whose rules you are following. Just because Talingarde has a specific code of laws does not mean that those are the rules you personally adhere to.

Which brings me back to the question - who wants to be drained of blood? Judge Tohram is getting thirsty.

Do they not teach this in school anymore?

Evil is measured in nazis which is the amount of evil a typical nazi can accomplish in one day.

Conversely, good is measured in gandhis.

Beauty of course is measured in helens, with one millihelen being the beauty necessary to launch one ship.

Sheesh, I though everyone knew this stuff.

Emrin Stoltz for your consideration. Intelligence and strength, and a desire to destroy. Destruction of virtue, innocence, and mental stability are his greatest weapons. Followed by his earth breaker, of which he is currently stripped.

Religious:
Eventually hoping to challenge Asmodeus and destroy the god for Rovagug's glory, he wishes to infiltrate the religion and get in as high of a position as possible. Worshipping Asmodeus is not hard, with this goal in mind.

This profile contains backstory.

Focus: Strength
Foible: Wisdom

Dex: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

EDIT: Well those are fancy stats if I've ever seen any, nice

Good catch! I totally meant to put CE instead of NE!! Corrected. Had it corrected in PCGEN but had the old alignment when I banged out the profile.

Any comments on my background DM Doug? I'm still nervous that by picking Zon-Kuthon over Asmodeus I'm somehow disqualifying myself.

I was wondering the same for myself choosing the Blood Gods.

The requirement is that you should be able to swear loyalty to Asmodeus at some point -- not that you're a worshipper of him from the start. (Or ever. If you give him your sworn loyalty, the worship is optional.)

Doug M.

That said, worshipping a god that is sworn enemies with Asmodeus is potentially problematic, yes.

Revised Background:

Ember had always had a fascination with fire. As a small child she would spend hours just watching the flames in the fireplace dance. Her mother recognized in her the same innate talents that she also possessed. The elder Firesong (Brianna), was a sorceress in the employ of a local thieves guild. She would provide the occasional magical support during disputes with other guilds and would also cause building to burn down when their owners failed to pay their "protection" money. Brianna's job was the reason that Ember grew up without a father. He didn't approve of the path she was going down and when Ember was a baby had given her the ultimatum: "Leave the thieves guild or leave my house!" Not willing to allow him to dictate how she was going to live her life, Brianna moved out the very next day and took Ember with her and left Cole (Ember's older brother) with him.

Life was good for Ember, her mother earned good money as was beginning to take her along with her on her assignments, training her to one day take her place. However, everything changed when a violent change of leadership occurred in the guild and everyone loyal to the former guild leader was killed. This included Ember's mother, though Ember herself was able to escape during the blaze her mother caused while defending herself. As she watched their home burn down, Ember knew just what she was going to do.

Since Ember knew she would never be able to get near enough to the new guild leader to kill him personally, she decided a scorched earth policy would be her best bet at vengeance. That way, even if he did managed to escape, he would have nothing left, just like she had nothing left now. Ember picked several strategic locations to start her fires and soon had the entire city block that housed the guild headquarters ablaze. She even attacked the guardsmen who arrived to try to put out the blaze, not wanting them put out her fires. Eventually Ember was overcome by the guards and placed under arrest.

Ember was later charged with arson that led to massive property damage and loss of an unknown number of lives. A source of great anger and embarrassment for during the trail was that one of the witness that was called forth was the new guild leader. Though badly burned, he and his closest confidants had managed to escape through a secret exit that led to the sewers. Another surprise at the trial was seeing her father and brother in the public viewing section of the courthouse.

As Ember burned alive at the stake for her crimes, she screamed that she would get revenge on all those who had ever wronged her.

Honestly, being an orc is probably more of an issue than being a Zon-Kuthonite. Look around and you'll notice that this thread is chock-full of half-orcs, tieflings, dhampirs and such. We have a changeling and even a goblin. I think people are gravitating towards these because they're "bad guy" races. Which is fine. But it means that if you're playing one, it's actually a bit harder for you to stand out.

Hell has no needs for minds in its slave, so Roses was dulled for an age wile she fetched and carried in a Devils war tent. She was captured alive and dragged before the courts, found guilt by their wrong laws as being a mass murderer she was sentenced to death, and now she waits, she has faith in Asmodeus she will endure.

Hmn, I hadn't thought of that. I had picked Tiefling previously just because I always have a soft spot for some of the demonic/darker races (Fetchlings, Shadar'kai, tieflings). And because the Fiend Flayer magus intrigued me. Saccing Constitution to buff your arcane pool? Vicious.

She can't help the way she was born :P I only picked Orc because the archetype is Orc only. I'd rather be an Aasimar or a Human.

Allowing a non-orc to take this is the kind of minor rule-bending I'm usually fine with. (Though it's nice to be asked, of course.)

-- Actually, I could see this archetype working great with an aasimar. She's become convinced that her face is horrible. Maybe it actually is covered with scars; maybe it's fine, and she's just developed some weird complex about it. But she wears this mask. In fact, she can't /not/ wear the mask -- she becomes incredibly anxious (sickened condition, say) if she takes the mask off. Meanwhile, she's a gorgeous, angelic looking young woman... with a compulsion to cut and scar herself. A compulsion so strong that she draws a strange power from it.

Heck yeah. Go ahead with an aasimar. I'm fine with it.

Prior to turning, Rorgar had a reputation as something of a 'hanging judge', so to speak. He never really believed in redemption, though he did toe the line, in the interest of staying in the good graces of his superiors. He viewed his job as punishing the guilty, not saving them, and if someone was going to be allowed to save their skin by turning to Mitra, they should basically be a second class citizen in the church.

Because of all of that, he basically changed sides because of the cleric of Asmodeus. The first point of contention was that he was allowed to live in the first place, and then they let him become a cleric. In short, from the moment that that cleric was given a church on, Rorgar was basically looking for an excuse to turn against the church of Mitra.

Heh, cool. I'll switch Grafelda over to an Aasimar as soon as I get a chance. Gonna post with this alias from now so that I don't go over ten posts with the other. That way if I don't get picked I can recycle the alias.
