Waiting on Jax, but since I'm going to bed now (see you in ~8 hours) I'm going to go slightly out of order. You remember I rolled a d20 for no obvious reason a while back? It was an initiative roll.
The blue-robed woman comes running down the stairs, a little out of breath. "Lord Commander, my apologies! I stopped to check for traps. Edric is right behind me."
Acrobatics check1d20 ⇒ 10 As she speaks, she dances fluidly past Grumblejack; the ogre barely has time to blink, and she's standing beside Lord Havelyn.
Douglas Muir 406 |
And this is why the "wait him out" strategy, if adopted, would have led to your fairly rapid deaths. The Commander didn't come in alone -- he just came in ahead. The blue-robed woman touches the Commander on the arm. "Ah, sir, they've injured you! Let me help!" [sound of dice rolling offscreen] The Commander looks visibly better.
"Ahh... so the halfling was right! And they are the Branderscar criminals! What plot of treachery is this?" She turns to look at Zimu particularly. "Ah ha. I told you I'd see you again." She tilts her head to one side and puts her fingertips together: in the middle of combat, an odd, almost meditative pose. "You're running low on spells, aren't you? I bet you are."

I could be wrong but if Xen was at full health then he's at 6 hp.
Ok ... more crashers for the party, just FYI IF THE PRINCESS MONK ARRIVED BEFORE Cуровую's turn at Initiative I don't think I would have charged the commander.
Because with Int 21 ... I am NOT that dumb.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Xen defensively casts clw and heals Edmin
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Dren of the Dark Tapestry |
Was she using a spell or a SU ability? Assuming the later. Just wondering in case we want to spell craft it. Does it look like she was casting trying to avoid attack?
Douglas Muir 406 |
Jax still has to go, and then the Commander, and then Grumblejack. I'll be up for a few more minutes -- otherwise, Jax can act and we'll resolve in the morning (my time).
Remember how the junior Seeker -- the guy you killed with a Fireball a while back -- had potions of Jump and Spider Climb on him? Well, if he had those, what do you suppose the more senior Seeker was carrying?

We must be related because

Ugly and smelly and full of split ends!
Does she not have to cast defensively considering all of those who are in that area?
Out of character when did the Monk arrive?
FYI IF THE PRINCESS MONK ARRIVED BEFORE Cуровую's turn at Initiative I don't think I would have charged the commander!
Because with Inteligence 21 ... I am NOT that dumb. I posted this morning thinking everyone would have posted by now so I 'went ahead', Cуровую may survive one attack from the commander, she would not have charged with the Monk there as that's suicide (well even more suicidal than things currently are). I repeatedly posted in the last page I would only act on my turn.
Also lets total how many hits and trip attempts worked because he may have been low on hp, we did not even add Inspire for extra damage for Edmin, Grumblejack and Morsum.

I had already posted for round 3, Jax used the grease scroll and for round 4 he cast vanish and moved up to behind the commander.
Are we on round 5 then? If so, Jax spell combats with shocking grasp (full round action), enchants his sword with an arcane point (swift) and imbues it with bonus damage from black blade strike (free action).
The result is:
Shocking grasp attack: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (1) + 22 = 23 (+14 with self buffs, +1 bless, +1 inspire, +1 invisible, +2 flanking, +3 metal armor) for 1d6 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15 normal damage (+2 black blade, +4 weapon enhance, +4 dex, +1 inspire courage,+2 cat's grace) 1d6 ⇒ 6 sneak attack damage and 5d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 5, 2) = 21 electric damage.
That was just the free action shocking grasp attack :)
Next, he attacks with his weapon as well for: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (9) + 18 = 27 dealing 1d6 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 and 1d6 ⇒ 6 sneak attack.
Resources spent:
Last shocking grasp, 1 black blade arcane pool point, 1 self arcane pool point
Edit: First attack misses, so shocking grasp damage would go off on the second.
Also, seriously, a 1 and an 8? Come on!

Haste Attack:1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 21
Damage:1d6 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 11

Just wondering on the Monk's Acrobatics, did you include all the +2 for additional people avoided? And roll for each threatened square she moved through?
Acrobatics to move through a threatened square reads:
In addition, you can move through a threatened square without provoking an attack of opportunity from an enemy by using Acrobatics. When moving in this way, you move at half speed. You can move at full speed by increasing the DC of the check by 10. You cannot use Acrobatics to move past foes if your speed is reduced due to carrying a medium or heavy load or wearing medium or heavy armor. If an ability allows you to move at full speed under such conditions, you can use Acrobatics to move past foes. You can use Acrobatics in this way while prone, but doing so requires a full-round action to move 5 feet, and the DC is increased by 5. If you attempt to move through an enemy’s space and fail the check, you lose the move action and provoke an attack of opportunity.
There is also this footnote:
1 This DC is used to avoid an attack of opportunity due to movement. This penalty increases by +2 for each additional opponent avoided in one round.
Grumblejack is above the Commander and Edmin with his 10' reach and Morsum with his 10' claws and 15' bite are adjacent to the Commander. Thus, she has to beat each of our CMD, which is 20 for Morsum and 21 for Edmin. (Not sure about Grumblejack, but probably about the same.)
Thus, to get next to the Commander, she would have had to make 3+ checks to pass Grumblejacks reach, at least 2 for Morsum and 1 or 2 for Edmin, with the last check being at the highest CMD +4 for two additional people. It is higher if Jax or Xen are also threatening the space.
It is possible that super monk can beat this, but with a roll of 10, I just want to make sure.

I attacked on 3, then got knocked the F out. Round 4 I got up and hit, Commander then punted Xen. Round 5 is begining?
Dren of the Dark Tapestry |
Round 4 for the combat Round 7 of him landing I believe. 7(4) is when monk came in and most of us are acted I believe. The commander is up then grumbles then we are up again. Comander has only taken his AOO.
BTW Edmins CMD should be 21+1+1+2+1 or 26 (base+enlarge STR+ +1 size +2 Shield of Faith + 1 haste plus the bonus for more than one enemy so he could be a 30CMD.
Edmin Al'Roth |
Ok, I had two actions (rounds)already, so this is the top of the next round.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 13 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 13 + 1 + 1 = 34
Damage: 3d6 + 19 + 1 ⇒ (4, 3, 5) + 19 + 1 = 32
Haste Attack: 1d20 + 13 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 13 + 1 + 1 = 35 Possible Crit!
Confirm Crit:1d20 + 13 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 13 + 1 + 1 = 34
Damage: 3d6 + 19 + 1 ⇒ (2, 6, 6) + 19 + 1 = 34
Crit Damage:6d6 + 38 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 2, 5, 4) + 38 + 2 = 58

Well I will be at work for 12 hours from 6am to 6pm U.S. Central time. Hopefully I will have time around 4 am Central to check what happened if not I will be back on aroun 7pm central.
It is 1855 right now if you want to do the math.

I had already posted for round 3, Jax used the grease scroll and for round 4 he cast vanish and moved up to behind the commander.
I thought the Grease was cast on round 2.
Douglas Muir 406 |
Good morning, all! Woo, lots of posts to get through.
However! Upon consideration, she'd have to move through two threatened squares (of Grumblejack's) to reach the Commander. So, she would need a second Acrobatics roll. 1d20 ⇒ 15
Douglas Muir 406 |
Okay, people are getting ahead of themselves. We are still on Round Four, and it's the Commander's turn to act. Jax cast Vanish and moved but didn't attack yet; Edmin's attack comes next turn.
So, the Commander is going to open with an attack on Xen. Why? Because Xen is injured, so he might as well finish him off. (Sorry, Xen. This may kill you but it's the logical thing for him to do.) So, first attack: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Douglas Muir 406 |
And Edmin takes 1d8 + 1d6 + 21 ⇒ (5) + (4) + 21 = 30 points of damage, which I believe puts him at negative 15 and kills him too.
"Father Dunnigan, my friend. You are avenged." And STILL not breaking a step, the Commander turns his attention to Morsum. "Monster," he says simply. (Second Smite Evil on Morsum.1d20 ⇒ 17
Cуровую зиму |
OMG Edmin too! NOO!
DM, if the commander attacked Xen, does his Smite still continue to be active against Edmin? It does not 'shut off'?
Lastly there were several attacks previously, did you add the +1 to hit, trip and damage for everyone? I did not add them them for Edmin, Cуровую, Grumblejack and Morsum when I tried to help with the math.
Douglas Muir 406 |
So Morsum takes 1d8 + 1d6 + 21 ⇒ (8) + (6) + 21 = 35 damage, which I believe leaves him still standing with 9 hp.
The Commander's Great Cleave feat allows him to keep attacking. Zimu did not move next to him (she cast Scorching Ray instead), so the only one who's left is Jax. Jax is invisible which means the Commander must make a DC 20 Perception check to realize he's there, another DC 20 Perception check to "pinpoint" him. If he makes both, then he can attack with a 50% miss chance. 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
Cуровую зиму |
Well I am feeling terrible about Xen and Edmin right now! I think I am about to cry. It could be the wine too.
:(
Good note though, I took a look and there was a sexy roll I missed up top, the to hit for Scorching Ray was a Nat 20. Hopefully the commander does not have protection from fire because this would have been all a waste.
Confirm to crit Scorching Ray
Ranged touch +Bless + Inspire (still up bec Xen was still with us) 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 18
4d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 1) + 4 + 1 = 15
Edmin Al'Roth |
Have to go to work, wont be on computer for around 14 hours. if Dren heals me I will attack the Commander. If not .....
Douglas Muir 406 |
Huh, I think Edric's initiative beats everyone else's? [checks] Yep, it does. So:
With a clatter of armor, he Commander falls senseless down to the bottom of the latter... sssshthump, clank. Grumblejack ROARS in triumph!
ROUND FIVE
Edric the archer 22 Edmin 22 Judge 21 Xen 18 Ragnar 18 Morsum 16 Blue-robe 12 Dren 12 Jax 10 Zimu 9 Commander 3 Grumblejack 3

Wait, wait! He may fallen to me! Unless he is immune to fire.
Total Scorching Ray damage was 26! Not 10.
To make it simpler Cуровую will just cast Ye Olde Scorching Ray at the dear commander when it's her turn so she goes this round, fair?
Ranged to hit + Bless
To hit 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27
Damage 4d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1, 2, 2) + 4 = 10 +1
Confirm to crit Scorching Ray
Ranged touch +Bless + Inspire (still up bec Xen was still with us) 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 18
4d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 1) + 4 + 1 = 15
Grumble can hit the Monk though!
