Well: a spell and three arcane points later, you're back at HQ with your new comb and brush set.

Hopefully you won't need those resources later today.

And this, Cimu, is why I told you that plan was pointless.

Okay, it's the evening of the 11th. Tomorrow you poison the stew, hopefully incapacitating much of the garrison and allowing you to do enough damage to trigger an assault by Sakkarot's monstrous horde.

Any final preparations? Or does everyone get a good night's sleep, and we fast-forward to noon at Mama Kolo's?

Just in case someone gets paranoid about the stew, with all of the things suddently happening it could happen, and they decide to place a guard on Mama we should have several of us go to her house and look at it from a distance first. Remember any resources we use here will be spent for that night.
Zimu, scibe a scroll or two of invisibility this evening? How many do you happened to have memorized? Dren will take one.

I would not mind having an invisibility scroll as well. I can use them.

Other than info gathering, I do not see much need in using resources. Someone should be watching the town to see whether the patrol returns. If they do, we will have to consider the additional captain in our plans.

Okay, fast forwarding to tomorrow morning. If you want to scribe scrolls, or do anything else, let me know now (and make sure you mark off the resources).

Zimu only:

You need to let me know whether you'll sleep tonight. Not sleeping means you'll be Fatigued tomorrow. OTOH, sleeping runs the risk of falling back into your trance-like state.

Your leg has healed 2 points of damage, meaning you are still down 3. It still hurts a lot, though, and occasionally oozes a bit of blood.

Finally, if you want to scribe a scroll, don't forget the special ink you got from Irin. You can scribe three second level spells with it, or two third level spells. As you go up in level, this will become less useful, so you might want to consider using it soon.[/url]

I definitely think we should scribe some more scrolls, Cimu. Preferably one invisible one per person. Jax already has one from earlier, but I don't think anyone else does?

some random rolling, nothing to see:

1d20 + 7 + 2 - 10 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 - 10 = 0
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

-- I said there was nothing to see. Geez.

First, the bad news. The patrol arrives back this morning. Popular opinion is that it's because they wanted to be home in time for Mama Kolo's stew.

DC 16 Knowledge (local) or DC 18 Profession (Judge):
It's not actually about the stew. The real reason is, Commander Havelyn wants to court-martial Captain Edderly ASAP. Under military law, he needs three officers for that. Magister Tacitus can be temporarily breveted as an officer, but with Dunnigan missing and Mott dead, he needs Captain Varning back. How he communicated this to the patrol is an open question.

Now the good news... two bits of good news.

One, Mama Kolo is *delighted* to see Xen the would-be guardsman again! Although she's very busy, she'll be happy to take a moment to talk to him, and will even invite him to sample her stew. So, Xen has access to the kitchen. He can poison the stew himself with a successful Sleight of Hand check, or he can simply hold the door open to let an invisible character slip in and do it (automatic success, but someone has to burn one use of Invisibility).

Two, Commander Havelyn doesn't screw around; he's Lawful Good, and justice is swift. Captain Varning doesn't even get a chance to change out of his patrol clothes. The moment he's back, the court-martial is convened. It takes less than half an hour.

Captain Edderly has been a fine officer, and the court's decision includes a recommendation for review and, possibly, reduction of sentence by higher authorities. Nonetheless, the law is very clear. He's guilty of dueling and of killing a brother officer. The only possible sentence is...

...wait for it...

Scrolls take quite a few hours. Maybe another scroll or two of invisibility?
Dren of the Dark Tapestry wrote:
Dren would like a scroll of disguise self written at 3rd level. 37.5gp as well as an inviso scroll if we have time.

Jax, Cуровую already Scribed one scroll of Invisibility for you, at caster level 2, 50 gp, but Cуровую will cover some of your cost. Put the scroll in your inventory and mark off 30 gp.

Dren, I already took off the Scroll from my inventory as soon as you did the computation, I had one at that caster level so basically I just gave you that copy. Just mark the funds off.

So between Nights 8 to 10, Cуровую only scribed only one Scroll, for Jax, assume this was night 8, from her current inventory she gave one of hers to Dren, and gave one Minor Image to the magister.

Question for DM will I be allowed to pen a Fly scroll at caster level 3, at the cost of 112.5 gp, that's allowed right?

No. The special ink lets you scribe a scroll at two caster levels higher, but Fly is a 3rd level spell. What happens there is, you pay for scribing a 5th caster level scroll, but it works at 7th level.

Linguistics to aid creation 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

DM will roll for Jax

Knowledge Religion to compose a powerful and moving prayer to give praise to Mitra for Justice and Perseverance 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

-

This letter is paraphrased, alternatively we can write another reason why a patrol needs to be sent out to meet the cleric.

The letter starts of with a powerful prayer

Lord Commander Havelyn,

Dearest Friend,

SUCCESS! Praise be to Mitra! Never should we doubt our God's Grace and Wisdom! (more words of praise)

My mission is a success I have met with Edmin Al'Roth, once a friend and brother at arms. (Gives a very brief but one sided back story, placing no blame on the cleric)

He is dying. His escape from Branderscar came at great a cost and he is not long for this world. He is in (name of an inn in a township two days ride from Aldencross, Knowledge Geography was 26, if not make up name of inn but still far away). He want clemency for his actions and a cure for his afflictions in exchange for information on his fellow escapees and comfort in his last days.

(do we need this line or omit it?) I have told him I can pray for him and possibly cure his afflictions but his pardon is not within my power to grant. He has agreed to meet with you and throw himself at your mercy.

I will bring him back with me but I request an escort for the road in case his SPIRIT RESOLVE weakens or in case his former allies decide to track us down even to this remote area.

(Places a formal request for a patrol of men, preferably led by captain Edderly, who the cleric does not know is unavailable and Brother Lambert or Brother Gregory, also an extra horse to carry Edmin who is a severe condition that will not allow him to travel easily.)

It is a good day my friend! Praise be Mitra!

Further suggestions from the group?

I'm sorry, let me rephrase that, I was not using the special ink for this. I was asking can I scribe a Scroll at lower level than than its normal caster level. There was some ruling on PFS that its is allowed to find and use Scrolls of lower level than the caster, example, Haste but at caster level 1 so it lasts one round.

DM found the rule. I was worried I had to recalculate a few Scrolls I already had and some that I cast! Whew.

I still don't believe penning the letter will get us anything other than possibly make him more cautious. The request may seem odd and mentioning Edmin's name might raise the Commander's sense of alarm even more.
I doubt if he will send away guards to bring one man back to the tower when it would make more sense to bring him back to the prison with local guards from whatever city he is in. I am not trying to tell you to not play you character but I think the letter carries more risk than upside.
Just my opinion.

I will ask either Edmin or anyone not involved with the stew to go half a mile out of town with our raven.

He will instruct it to deliver the message, wait to ensure it is seen and the message taken, then immediately fly back outside out of town after delivery and receipt. It may wait a few minutes but NOT longer. I don't want it traced back or followed.

We will time this for before the stew is delivered so that the poison is more concentrated if we succeed in this plan.

The logic here is, as I mentioned before, was the cleric would have NO idea of the heightened sense of security! He is acting as he should.

In the commander's eyes the cleric left and now the commander learns the reason why his chief cleric and loyal friend acted in the way he did. And now wishes to come back. The commander is competent and capable but he is not all knowing. I have thought this through as much as I could, save of course something DM may have kept from us like a pet name or password they may have among friends.

We can substitute another name for Edmin if you want to do so, but I am betting that the priest has mentioned our champion to the commander.

DM actually, does Cуровую know the commander?

Zimu only:

You've never met the man -- and yet, yes, you know him. You've known him all your life. You know very well how he thinks.

If you're asking whether he'll believe this? If delivered by Father Dunnigan's own magical raven, very probably. He's a trusting soul at heart.

I will say one last thing then let it go.
I don't think the Commander is going to send any men away on an errand such as this when he has his hands full. That being said I don't think the letter will do anything.
I could be wrong but he would be a fool to send away his only remaining captain when the current situation dictates that he keep his men close to protect the wall, not doing a favor for his priest. Remember he is Lawful Good and his duty is probably almost everything to him. I am guessing what he will be thinking once he reads it...he will be giving his priest a good tongue lashing for even suggesting something like this.

They said you could bring the aid and confessor, nothing about a chef. Jax, Edmin and Xen should be invisible.

So is our plan to kill the Magister in his den? If so maybe we should plan a magic demonstration for the Magister. A summoning...Morsum for example. While you are summoning him Jax lifts the control bracelet from him and gives it to me. We then strike him with our combined efforts after Jax poisons his drink.
