Just pokin' my head in, tell ya I'm still int'rested.

Also, the character sheet is complete, I think. I'd be really interested in any feedback you could provide if you have time.

Donato - it's a tasty invitation for a PbP, but unfortunately the character isn't gelling in my head - so I'll pull out.

Good luck to yourself and those that are selected.

Never run in a PBP before, but this sounds interesting. I think I might try to work up a vanara pistolero with plans to supplant the Monkey King I briefly played in another campaign into a 25 pt buy. How do you feel about a prehensile tail being used to reload pistols and eventually revolvers?

Everything looks spot on.

zefig wrote:

You can use the tail to grab ammo form your pack/pockets/dimensional spaces/etc. You still need a hand to reload, though. No thumbs on a tail. However, you can use the tail to hold onto a tree branch or pillar if you like. This allows for things like climbing up into a tree and holding onto it to prevent falling while firing a rifle.

Sounds reasonable. I might not go with pistolero then in that case though. I'll get to work!

Sniper Monkey, go!

So, I'm guessing my offer of a Goblin Wizard is out? ^^ No problem if it's so; I'll just need to retool Valai a little to fit your requirements -- provided she gets in.

I posted earlier that no goblins were allowed for this campaign. It might have gotten lost amongst the infinite number of quote boxes in my later posts. Sorry! :S

Not a problem. ^^ I'll get to work on Valai; her updated version should be available by tomorrow.

... Or even as soon as today! ^^ I've reworked her stats, as you can see, with the appropriate changes to her spells and saves. I have also changed her weapon from a rapier to an Elven curve blade, and given her the Deft Dodger trait instead of Caravan Guard; it seemed more useful, somehow.

Thank you. ^^

Hi Donato and everyone,

I hope I'm not late to the party. I got a case of PCGen Fever and Pbp is the only cure. Your campaign looks fascinating and I'd love to join in if there's room.

Here's my Protean Sorcerer. He evolved out of a desire to make Chaotic Neutral something other than Stupid (and, as most people play it, Evil). The way I see it, a young character could play CN as 'conflicted and troubled' and grow to become a more serene avatar of Creation and Destruction--and neutrality could be seen as the non-attachment--a Buddhist who sprouts tentacles and warps reality, if you will. That character arc might lead to eventual alignment CG, but hey, either way, it makes for a good story.

This is my first time posting character info, so forgive my formatting if anything looks weird.

Appearance/Personality:
Kanthuun is an average sized young human male whose sullenness sometimes mars his otherworldly handsome features. His looks are slightly darker than fair, with tangled locks that are normally brown, but both occasionally change with swirls of color passing along his skin in glowing hues. On rare occasions, disturbing shapes and waves ripple under his skin as if something is passing through him from another plane of existence.

Kanthuun is indecisive and young; this keeps him from his true potential so far. He alternately desires power and hates authority. He loves his friends, but can reject them due to his deep hurts and fears. He wishes for serenity and balance, but doesn't know how to reconcile this with the rules of Law or the arbitration of Chaos. His path will be a difficult him as he struggles to escape his traumatic childhood and grow into the thoughtful person he would like to be.

Background:
Kanthuun doesn't care. Why should he? No one has cared for him, except Larona, and he ruined that. He never knew his parents; his mother left him in an orphanage and his father was likely some protean beast from the plane of Limbo, or who knows what. He learned to avoid the beatings by enduring, bluffing, and pretending he was stronger than he was, but when his bloodline manifested with a combination of unearthly wild looks, unlike the average urchin, and the occasional disturbing ripple beneath his skin, he ran away in fear and took to the streets. He joined a gang and could have led it if he had greater confidence, but preferred to hang back. Even there, he did not feel accepted thanks to his unearthly powers.

Yearning to be more like a wizard, he snuck into a school of magic and pretended to be a student for almost two years. For once, he felt safe, although he dawdled in classes and relied on his innate abilities rather than actually studying. He was drawn especially to magic items, as he considers himself a 'magic item' of sorts, and appreciated their beauty--and that they weren't people. He also was drawn to the master magecrafter, the elven lady Larona, who was the only person who showed him genuine kindness. Although she was at least a century older than he, his heart pounded in her presence. This brief time of sanctuary was shattered when he was discovered to be a sorcerer. In desperation, he fled to Larona's workshop, attempted to steal a wand and leave the school entirely, but was caught by Larona. He dropped the wand and fled, leaving her staring.

Kanthuun doesn't understand why people should be good if nothing good comes of it; he is disgusted by evil, and he resents law, although he envies it. He wishes he could be more accepting of chaos, but he is afraid of what his bloodright implies. Kanthuun is a made-up name; he was named Verelius in the orphanage, a name he despises. His real name, if his mother gave one, is lost, as are so many other things. One day, he dreams, he will be Kanthuun the Mighty, Sorcerer of Chaos, but until then, he is just a frightened, angry youth, who is not sure how to keep the few friends he has.

I finished up a lot more than this on the monkey sniper including equipment, but then I managed to lose it all and I'm getting really tired, so here's the basic crunch for now. I'll try to finish it up tomorrow.

Dotting for interest. How do you feel about a coked up, sadist halfling fighter dragging a medium sized bastard sword?

Nice catch! Regrettably, PCGen is not Hero Lab, and I had teh tired. As I have nooo armor, more HP always helps. :) This character would hang in the back and slime things from afar, in any case. Until he must reluctantly take the role of hero, when all else is lost...-cue dramatic music-

Excellent. I present my seriously mad halfling fighter.

Essence:
You people see a tavern full of thirsty and rowdy patrons, laughing about whatever they feel. Aldis sees a room full of victims and criminals, all needing to be dealt with... properly. Many in the past have attempted to comprehend the inner workings of Aldis's mind, perishing in the attempt. His late mother, though no fault of his own, sent him to many a medicine man to cure him of his... sickness. 'Noh won knoes whaht be in deh maind ohf deh won naught willin' tah share. Noh won will evar fahnd hout heithar. Only those who wulld beh willin' tah die cun lern me mind's ehntent,' He muses. Aldis keeps an eye on everything around him, and everyone. He only helps if the price is right, of if the bodies of the fallen can be stacked ever higher...

words!
The young Booker Graves grew up with a small troupe of miscreant youths cavorting through small villages among the River Kingdoms. Early on he learned that he was good at sneaking around through the trees to scout out potential targets, generally consisting of merchants plying their trade along the many winding waterways of his homeland. He generally took a hands-off role in the perpetration of larceny, until the fateful day that their crew robbed a skiff captained by a keen-eyed old sailor with a beat-up old pistol. The captain managed to spot Booker as he was scouting out the skiff and scared the young Vanaran off when he clipped him with a thunderous shot. Though injured, Booker was impressed enough with the destructive power in that gun to follow the skiff and sneak back on that night. He stole the pistol, returned to his own troupe, and the next day they boarded the skiff and made off with their wares. There they found a shipment of art and literature from distant Tian Xia. Most was of little use to the young pirates, but Booker found in the stash a thick tome in a familiar script: an account of the mischief of the Monkey King, Sun Wukong. Booker took these stories to heart, and began his own sort of worship of the Trickster God, not so much as a deity but more as a personal goal to surpass in legend. Soon after these two fated acquisitions, Booker left his friends behind to pursue his own legend as a drifter and soldier of fortune, making up for his lackluster intellect with keen cunning and lightning-fast reflexes.

Booker casts a unique image, covered in soft, dark-gray fur from the top of his head to the tips of his toes and his long, nimble tail. His wide, squarish face is dominated by the luxurious and outlandish drooping white moustache framing his wide, expressive mouth, much like an Emperor Tamarin. A whispy white goatee and large black eyes fill out his facial features, and a black top hat typically sits atop his head. His traveling attire consists of sturdy pants and shirt under a large striped poncho, all in earthy tones suitable for blending in to the wilderness. He's never without a few powderhorns and large, oiled, waterproof satchel for carrying his belongings. He keeps his feet bare, even on long travels, as he is ever keen to climb around and boots would only hinder him in that regard. Booker is rarely seen sitting still, and even when sneaking around seeks more to match his movements to natural rhythms rather than sit stock still.

Acrobatics, Craft: Alchemy, Perception, and Stealth (4 Gunslinger, -1 int, +1 favored class)

Climb is all racial from having a climb speed.

--Just edited to add remaining money as well--

Dude, there are a bunch of interesting characters in this here thread. Anyone else doing some mental run-throughs to see how they'd interact (besides Donato)? Combine that with an unusual campaign setting means, I think, this will be one to watch.

Alright, here's mine! Though I may tweak her a little, maybe pick up a APG class focus, this is basically her.

Stat up to 25 point-buy and you'll be peachy.

Also, due to me having to be away for a portion of the evening, recruitment will stay open just a little bit longer tonight. Get your bid in for consideration before doors close!

OK, overhauled background and fine tuned the crunch.

So, today we hear who has been chosen, correct? ^^

Oh, I think the sole Cleric doesn't need luck to be chosen in a 1st Level party! ;) But yes, bounteous fortune to us all.

Contributor , Star Voter 2013

Whenever I see a PBP start up, the GM always states it's difficult to choose between the entrants. I know understand what they mean. In fact, it's made me end up picking between six, rather than five. Presenting, our stars!

  • Scranford - Boodka [Orc Barbarian]
  • Halflingtime - Celia Deschmertz [Gnome Cleric]
  • YuenglingDragon - Quentin Marshall [Human Magus]
  • DukeRuckley - Entaro Yotori [Nagaji Fighter]
  • Lym Blackhand - Valai [Elf Wizard]
  • Zefig - Booker Graves [Vanara Gunslinger]

Thank you to everyone who applied! As for you six, see you soon, space cowboys.

Congratulations to the lucky chosen. Good gaming!

Thank you very much!

Hey, cool. Thanks for the pick, Donato, and congrats to my fellow chosen. I know there was definitely some fierce competition here and a lot of other cool characters.

I guess it's time to get this party started then, eh?

Congratulations and have a great adventure!

Huzzah! I'm looking forward to it. ^^ To those who weren't picked this time - good luck with your future recruitments.
