Please post all finalized characters here so they can be reviewed. You may also want to try to interweave your backgrounds a little but this is up to you.

A few notes:

1) You are all from the town of Kassin. You can either know eachother or not, thats up to you. You're also realitivily young and untetsted at this point in time. Part of the point of this quest is to test your abilities as adults and to see what you've learned from your mentors(see point 2).

2) You all will have a mentor so to speak in Kassin that has taught you your craft. Information on the mentors and who has what mentor will be added later.

3) Fealix and Xeros since you have played through this before I expect to have NO meta gaming from you two. Don't make me have to take you over my knee.

4) Due to a lack of real front line power I'm going to be making an NPC. I'll have him up in a little bit.

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14

Here is the NPC that will be accompanying the group to make up for the lack of mele.

Backstory In Progress:

Rune born to well off parents was afforded every luxury, he went to the best schools, had the best training. What quickly came to light though was his exceptional mind that quickly outstripped even the brightest of his teachers. Matched almost by supernatural like reaction speed he always seemed to be ahead of the game no matter what he chose to do. However he found spellcasting provided him the challenges he sought. During his enrollment at a local magic school his parents were brutally murdered all their wealth plundered. No culprits or suspicions were ever lain leaving Rune with little besides the remainder of his tuition fees and a little left over to start him self a life. He decided to adventure and seek greater knowledge and mastery over the Art.

Im currently working on my backstory but im at work so its not complete and will be editted.

** spoiler omitted **...

Really a level 4 npc with a level 1 party?

Male Tiefling Ranger(Trapper)-1/Cleric-1

Woot thanks for letting me in again! Yeah I think a lvl 4 is going to be a little bit of overkill, but its up too you buddy.

It was the best plot related NPC(he was a mentor in town) I could come up with. I know its a little unoriginal but meh.

Rune be sure to read the information in the spoiler below. Its your introduction to your mentor.

Information on Holgast:

On the eastern edge of town is a single tower, leaning slightly to the south, made of bricks and timber. This is the home of Holgast, the town’s local sage and mystic. Although Holgast is very knowledgeable, he is old and quite forgetful, meaning that the townsfolk (the mayor in particular) only consult him if the need is truly great. Holgast spends
most of his days wandering about his tower, reading books, smoking his
pipe, and taking naps. Once a week, he wanders into town to purchase supplies and provisions with his seemingly inexhaustible reserve of perfect golden coins, which he claims came from an immense hoard some years ago. Holgast makes for a frustrating mentor. His lessons are erratic and old fashioned. His apprentices are required to do all manner
of chores for the privilege of learning from him, while he sleeps the day away and teaches very little. Those who have learned anything from him have done so by sneaking into the wizard’s spellbooks while he is napping.

Glad to have you back Xeros. I don't know if you remember this information or not but below you can find some information on your mentor.

Arnama Lastrid:

Nirmathas is known for its rangers, valiant woodsmen who have spent years carving out a nation and protecting it from foreign and domestic threats. Arnama is one such ranger. She is tough, quiet, and more than willing to risk her life to protect the people of Kassen and the country she has grown to love. Arnama was orphaned during the early wars with Molthune, growing up in a band of adopted parents. These rangers taught her everything she knows. When Arnama came of age, she left the band to find out where her parents came from. That trek led her to Kassen, where she has remained ever since, living in their old house just outside town. Arnama is a skilled ranger but not the best teacher. Those who have tried to learn from her find her impatient and without discipline. She does, however, excel at teaching by example, leading her charges on far-ranging patrols and hunts.

Male Tiefling Ranger(Trapper)-1/Cleric-1

Copythat sir!

Male Halfling Rogue; 2

Checking in.
Short version; Parents killed in Goblin raid on home village. Struck out on my own to proove Halflings can defend themselves and be independent. Settled here, found mentor and am now ready to begin my adventuring life.

Sounds good Andwell. Here is the information on your mentor.

Jimes “Short Change” Iggins:

Those who frequent the Seven Silvers tavern know to count their coins before they leave the table, especially if they have been served by “Short Change,” the halfling waiter who has a propensity for giving less change than is due (although he insists the name is due to his short
stature). Although Jimes is genuinely kind and helpful to all the locals, he just can’t help but end up with some of their possessions at the end of the night, be it a few coins or a loose dagger. Most of the townsfolk are quite aware of this and do not take too much offense if something goes
missing. After all, they know where the missing goods went. Anyone who works with Jimes at the Seven Silvers is sure to get a host of tips and tricks from this good-natured thief, who thinks that a little petty theft is all in good fun.

Cool!

Two Halflings and a Human walk into a bar.
Only the Human hits his head.
-Old Halfling proverb

Okay after thinking it over I think what I'm going to do is let in Deevor's Paladin if he wants to come in instead of my overpowered NPC. Fealix said he was going to try to get a hold of him in some of the other threads on here and let him know there is a spot open to him now.

I'll be getting the in character thread up as soon as I stop posting this. I will throw a link up when the in character thread is up and running.

Oh Neculai you need information on your mentor yet...see the spoiler below.

Jocyn Elmaran:

Jocyn is the only real entertainer in the town, having settled here 4 years ago after a fight with orcs up near the Belkzen border left him with a crippled leg. Despite his injury, Jocyn is a capable performer, working with a variety of instruments and performance styles. He lives
in one of the rooms above the Seven Silvers Tavern, where he performs nightly. Jocyn is a perfect mentor for bard characters. His loose style and relatively carefree nature make him a rather lax teacher, however, and his occasional drunken ramblings hint of a terror in his past that he refuses to speak of any other time.

Rune's Backstory:

Rune born to well off parents was afforded every luxury, he went to the best schools, had the best training. What quickly came to light though was his exceptional mind that quickly outstripped even the brightest of his teachers. Matched almost by supernatural like reaction speed he always seemed to be ahead of the game no matter what he chose to do. However he found spell casting provided him the challenges he sought. During his enrolment with a local sage named Holgast, him and his fellow apprentices were rarely taught anything and constantly berated to do the various menial tasks required of the master. Rune being of exceptionally quick mind often stole away into his master’s study and reading and learning on his own. During this time his parents were brutally murdered and all their wealth plundered. No culprits or suspicions were ever laid leaving Rune with little besides the remainder of his tuition fees and a little left over to start himself a life. He decided to adventure and seeks greater knowledge and mastery over the Art.

If anyone wants to work how our characters meet into my backstory please let me know your idea.

IT BEGINS! Please check out your idividual spoiler and respond how ever you see fit. I'd like to start off with a little role play while we wait to see if Deevor will be joining us as our 6th.

push me

If Deevor doesn't join I prefer to do things without NPCs. We'll manage.

Male Tiefling Ranger(Trapper)-1/Cleric-1

Deevor is in one of my games, so I passed along the message just waiting for the response.

Male Undine Monk 7 HPs:42/42, AC 20, (T19, FF16) CMD: 25 (27 grapple)

Hi Guys, thanks for asking me over....

yep I'll count me in....

For the background, as per original background, but Kassin is the place where he has been mentored to be a cleric, but failed and ended up a paladin instead....

if that fits in OK with you DM Mathpro.

will just update a few bits and bobs later, have to do it later today after work, unless you are happy with the build I did for the character for Shanosuke's game.

If you don't like the Undine, then I'll put either a human paladine or fighter together...I'm happy with either...I'll keep the backstory very simple in that case, father warrior of the watch or soldier of the church, following in his father's footsteps ... native of Kassin.

OK...Got a human pally....if you want him more than surveen, that's fine with me.

...

The intimidate I see as a kind of holy intimidation rather than from violence.

Thank you for understanding Deevor Tarvind fits in better with the campaign background. I really should learn to restrict races when I recruit for this.

Anyway your good to jump in when ever you want but be sure to check the spoiler I'll be putting in my post for you. It gives you very important information.

Female Human Paladin 2 HPs 17/21

Thanks very much, I'll join ... changed Tarvind to Tarvinda .. and changed to a female rather than a male, to go with the avatar, which I think would work better as a female, (although it could be either).

Female Human Paladin 2 HPs 17/21

Just wanna say I'm enjoying the characters already ... this should be fun. Oh I'm such an upright straight pain in the arse paladin already .. its gonna be great ..

Don't worry. Fealix will fix that problem for you :D

Male Human Bard 2

I don't usually play bards, but I'm gonna try and make Neculai fun.

Now that I think about it, Neculai is the first bard I've ever played.

Female Human Paladin 2 HPs 17/21

Just so you know, I'm going away later today back Monday morning. No posting whilst I'm away.

Okay Tarvinda, mind if I NPC your character while your gone or do you want her to "tend to the horses" so to speak?

Female Human Paladin 2 HPs 17/21

For future, you can NPC Tarvinda if I'm away for whatever reason ...

... looks like I'm away next weekend as well...but I'll confirm it later.

Male Human Bard 2

I'm glad Fealix is enjoying the songs. :P

Male Human Bard 2

Message is gonna be a fun cantrip.

Male Tiefling Ranger(Trapper)-1/Cleric-1

Oh yeah, It's usually a must have in move of my RL groups.

Male Human Bard 2

I didn't intend for it to actually be useful in this situation, I just wanted to check in. It just happens that I use it at a particularly tactically-useful moment.

In an effort to improve my skills as a DM I was wondering if I could get some feedback on a few points.

1. Do you guys want to do normal xp type progression or do you want to do a more story based level progression? For the other level system I would give you levels as I see fit, based on the completion of story points. I know Shano has been doing this for his games and he likes it a lot more.

2. It seems like we've lost our wizard. Do you guys want to seek a replacement player or just continue on with the five we have. The module was only meant for four players so continuing on is very possible but I'd be willing to let someone else in if thats what you want.

3. I should mention(which I keep forgetting to do) that I really don't like it when players just off and disappear. I understand life gets in the way and unperdicatble things happen. I mean look at me, I haven't been exactly keeping up with posts. But nothing kills games quicker then disappearing players. So I generally have a don't post for 3 days and your out rule but due to the chaos going on in my life currently I feel that might be a little to strict. I might not be able to follow my own rule which isn't fair for my players. So what do you guys feel is a fair time limit?

Note: If you need to be gone for an extended period of time and you let me know a head of time obviously this policy doesn't hold for you.

4. General impressions so far?

Male Halfling Rogue; 2

I think most Paizo modules give a rough idea where leveling should occur. Tracking exp on a PbP is, to me, more of a GM decision since role play is higher priority than combat.

Otherwise, everything is fun. Carry on!

Male Human Bard 2

1. Story-based or XP is fine with me.

2. With this last bit of combat, I think a replacement might be nace to save us from you. :P

3. I'm fine with any time limit.

4. You're almost as deadly a GM as I. In CoT, I nearly TPK'ed with 2 goblins TWFing with Dogslicers. Full attack stats: -6/-6. I crit many times in that fight, and my players don't let me DM for the most part any more.

Female Human Paladin 2 HPs 17/21

1. Story line leveling is fine and much easier for DMs than XP.
2. Let's see how we go with what we've got, although 5 more clerics would help....(I hope I'm only joking)...
3. I would say 2 or 3 days and NPC... give it a week before moving out of the adventure ... but depending upon circumstances you can accept people back too if life has been 'like that'. Weekends and famlily can throw a few surprises, so a bit of leeway then too.
4. Going well, having fun ... but thought we had surprise on the orcs ... so I really was surprised when Tarvinda hit the deck.
5. In other games I've been involved in the DM rolls for initiative, as it helps speed things up, when combat kicks off. I think it works quite well.

Male Tiefling Ranger(Trapper)-1/Cleric-1

1.)I like leveling story-based cause it's just easier on both the dm and the players. That's what I do for my RL games and everybody prefers it that way. So if you didn't catch that, it's another yes for story based leveling.

2.)I'm up for eitherway, always fun to have new blood but we are a pretty good set up without another we just need to hope you don't roll that wicked next fight.

3.)I would say a week but it's up to you, 3 days is a little too short of a wait, a week would allow plenty of time for them to catch up.

4.)Having up to the part that I got decapitated hehe.

Male Human Bard 2

Ninja, please.

Looks good Azure(Etna). I've made a post in the IC thread where you can jump in so feel free to do so.

Female Human Paladin 2 HPs 17/21

By the bye, although Tarvinda thinks Andwell's mother and father are the respectable sorts...it wouldn't surprise me if......

...and they should have taught Andwell better, so no problems with Andwell's parents being interested in shiny things, donated to them by others who didn't look after their things as they should.

Tarvinda will get quite a shock when Etna reveals herself ... smiles...

If KOed, I'll revert to my real self.

Female Human Paladin 2 HPs 17/21

Apologies for not being around, but RL family challenges, with my mother going into hospital have kept me busy. Please bot Tarvinda if she's holding up the game. I will try and keep Deevor's profile up to date, or details will be found in DM Deevor's posts.

Female Succubus touched Ninja 2

Map is almost done.

Question should it be chopped up into areas, or one whole map?

Thanks Etna, I posted the answer in the IC thread.
