Tera Flinders |
Okay, so I've been thinking about Tera and I think Nate's point about it not making sense is a very, very good one. Tera dipping into some class for the class skill bonuses isn't really necessary, and to be honest, it was a cool idea that I hadn't thought through. That said, I think I've found two traits that'd make sense, especially with Tera's background.
Eyes and Ears of the City
Silent(Uskwood) Hunter
The first would be something she could pick up from Brother Faustwick or Salomae. The second would need to have the flavor tweaked (It's a Nidal regional trait,) but if the GM's okay with it, it could be something that Salomae begins to work with Tera on after this latest attempt at sneakery goes wrong. (I don't know for sure, it's just something that I would be taking full advantage of in Nate's position.)
I think I'm also going to have Tera be more focussed on buffs with a smattering of other spells that would be useful to have. I was planning on having her be a jack of all trades, but this gives me a clearer direction. If this is going to step on Kaede's and Zache's toes, I'm willing to work out something else, but I think this makes the most sense for Tera.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
I can't say one way or another on how Salomae or Zache might feel about this particular direction, but I think it will be nice for Tera to discover some direction for herself. And honestly, this direction makes sense for someone who's principle teacher is an inquisitor. I'm not sure how I feel about using Uskwood Hunter but I'm sure we can find/workout a suitable stealth trait.
In terms of remaining conceptually connected to Abadar, you can handle that how you want but I like the idea of an almost batman-like mindset of using stealth/perception as tools to protect people and/or the city (I mean, obviously, you wouldn't be super similar to batman, I just mean that idea of the shadows as a tool for the righteous in the battle against chaos/evil).
Tera Flinders |
I think that'd be the way it works out anyway. Tera's an idealist, but I think there's a sense of pragmatism to her. It's why she's been using a crossbow for most of her damage dealing and is wanting to get a hold of spells that are more versatile.
Or maybe that's me getting sleepy and not thinking straight. :P
Anyway, I feel that she would reach for those skills as tools to make her more useful and help her protect Sandpoint, its people, and her friends.
That said, I'm also fully expecting her hastiness to get her into more trouble. If not now, then at some point in the near future.
Salomae Amsel |
Speaking for myself, I'm fine with this direction if Tera wants to pursue it. I've always envisioned Sal as more of a striker who just happens to find being able to get about quietly and scout useful skills to supplement her chosen combat 'style' but in no way would she (or I, OOC) consider herself to have a monopoly on such things :)
Kaede Mayumi |
If you want to try that route, go ahead. Most of the buffs that Kaede is going to prepare are going to be used via fervor, so spreading buffs to the others would be a good thing. Kaede will likely be more of a guardian then anything else, so whatever you do being support will be good for her.
(maybe I should look into mithral heavy armor)
Zache Kovachi |
I really don't know what my plan is for Zache. Should I build for Startoss Style? Dirty tricks? Desna's divine weapon style for that sweet sweet Charisma to-hit and damage?
Kaelaah |
Not sure where this is going but right now Kaelaah is reacting to the murder of the closest of those that he would call brother or sister... he's looking for vengeance rather than offering any chance of redemption... not cool for a Sarenrite!!!!
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
That was indeed good. Great job on the rp!
I'll post with info on what you find in the basement and getting the guard later today when I have more time, but I wanted to announce that once you all get a good night sleep you will wake up 2nd level!
For hp we'll use the classic 'half, rounded up' approach. Remember that you gain a hero point from leveling, and that at 2nd level you each gain your chosen domain's first level spell as a spell-like ability 1/day.
Please post whatever is changing about your character in this thread.
If you're planning to multiclass please make sure to mention that. If you have any questions at all please feel free to ask here or by PM. Also, a reminder that I'll allow your domain abilities and SLAs to satisfy requirements for PrCs (not that you'll qualify now, but in case you're planning ahead); and if you have an idea or interest in PrCs, I'm willing to adapt or create PrCs specific to your characters (like if you wanted an option that's just a more divine version of your class, or maybe something loosely inspired by the ebberon dragonmarked PrC, or if Tera was seriously interested in a more abadarian version of arcane trickster...), let me know and we can start looking at options (even though it would clearly be a ways off).
Kaede Mayumi |
Okay.... Bookkeeping time....
HP +6
BAB, Fort, Will +1
+1 0th, 1st lvl spell
+1 use of Blessing
Gain Fervor (4 uses) - heals are only 1d6
Skills +1 in Perform(dance), Diplomancy, Knowledge(Religion), Sense Motive, Spellcraft, Survival
Divine Gift - Shield 1/day
FCB: 1/6 Bonus Combat Feat
.... I think that's everything...
EDIT: I think I have my tagline up-to-date too.
Salomae Amsel |
Let's see...
+8 HP (6 + 2 Con)
+1 BAB
+1 Fort & Reflex
+1/6th Slayer Talent (Human FCB)
+8 Skill Points (Acrobatics, Intimidate, Kn. Local, Kn. Nature, Perception, Sense Motive, Stealth, Survival)
+2 Background Skill Points (Kn. Geography, Kn. Religion)
Gain Bless as a SLA (1/day)
Gain Determined Zeal (Ex) - At 2nd level, a deliverer shrugs off attempts by his moral opposite to control or kill him. On any round in which deliverer attacks an opponent whose alignment is at least two steps away from his own (such as a lawful good deliverer fighting a chaotic good or lawful evil foe, or a neutral foe with no other alignment components), he gains a +2 bonus on Will saving throws against that opponent’s abilities, as well as the benefit of the Diehard feat until the end of his next turn. This ability replaces the slayer talent gained at 2nd level.
I think that's everything :)
*edit* Not really sure if I'll be going for a PrC for Sal or not. There's not really many that speak to me (or the character) right off though maybe the Evangelist or the Sentinel could be interesting.
Tera Flinders |
I've been thinking and I think multiclassing into Inquisitor would make the most sense from a roleplaying perspective, if not a mechanics standpoint. She's not going to forget that she missed Tsuto and she's going to feel responsible for Roakkad's death once the immediate has been taken care of. I think she would seek out help and would ask Brother Faustwick for help if she knew what he was capable of. (Speaking of which, does she?) She'll definitely be asking Sal for help with bows and moving quietly.
For now, though, I will be sticking with Arcanist.
Changes:
HP: +4
Spellbook: +2 spells (Vanish and Magic Missile)
BAB: +1
Will: +1
Skills: +2 class, +3 INT, +1 Human, +1 Favored, +2 Background skills
--Background: (Perform (Dancing), Perform (Singing))
--Skills: (Acrobatics, Climb, Knowledge(Arcana), Knowledge(Local), Perception, Stealth)
Gain floating disk as a SLA (1/day)
I think that's everything.
Zache Kovachi |
I'm going to need to think for a while, and might need to rebuild Zache a little. He'll be staying as a bard, but I have no idea what I want to do with him. I'll need to ruminate for a while.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
@Tera- you don't know exactly what Brother Faustwick is capable of, but you do know that he is occasionally called away to investigate matters of heresy and church discipline. You also know that he has a reputation for discovering secrets and discerning lies. (Also, if/when you decide to multiclass- we'll use fractional bonus progression so you don't have to worry about trying to line up BAB increases or anything).
@Zache- if there's anything I can do to help just ask.
Tera Flinders |
Alrighty, thanks for the info. :) (And thanks for using the Fractional bonuses)
Kaede Mayumi |
Oh, I made a slight mistake on leveling. It should be +7HP, not +6. Somehow, I thought half was 4 not 5.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
no problem.
I don't want to slow things down at all, but I'm trying to leave some room for anyone else who might want to post anything in the basement, to the watch, or upon arriving at the Cathedral... I'll post again moving things along some tomorrow night (probably 18-24 hours from now), so try to get it up by then if you want to say/do anything.
Zache Kovachi |
I've sent Zache's character sheet to a couple of friends who are better at finding fun and effective builds than I am. They're a bit busy with uni, but hopefully they'll be able to give me some ideas on how to build him soon. So far, Startoss Style and Desna's divine fighting technique are both forerunners, but we'll see what happens.
I'll try to get a RP-heavy post up soon-ish.
Kaelaah |
I'll attempt to get Kaelaah levelled up shortly... shouldn't be too difficult and I don't really have any long term vision for how progression through the levels... just going to see what feels right for how his story develops...
...however...
I am wondering about Roakkad's animal companion... it kind of seems appropriate that Kaelaah would try and build a bond with it... but I'm not sure how that would play out (or whether there are any suitable mechanics to represent that)... or maybe he should release Tsharat back into the wild?
Poor old Kaelaah... I hope GM this isn't you getting me back for murder-ising poor Nalathi back in Ravenmoor ;)
DM Nate |
Ha- I honestly hadn't even thought of that. One of the things about this campaign is that the mechanics of being 'marked' make it difficult to write anyone out of (or into) the story without it being kind of a big deal. Knowing that Roakkad's leaving had to matter, this seemed a suitable way to give it some narrative weight while not getting pulled off course too much (hopefully).
As for Tsharat... if you take (or have) a rank or two in handle animal (which I believe is a background skill) you could keep him as a pet, but he's not trained so it would really just be for flavor. There are feats if you want to bond with him but it would take some time... you could either take Familiar Bond (which requires Iron Will, and doesn't grant all the bonuses a normal familiar would unless you take the follow up feat Improved Familiar Bond) to have him as a hawk familiar, or you could take Animal Ally (which requires Nature Soul, and lags behind unless you follow up with boon companion) to have him as a "bird" animal companion.
***Everyone***
I'm not ok with total rebuilds before leveling (like is allowed in PFS), but I will give you all the one-time-only opportunity to rearrange some things as you work on leveling. No changing races, or classes (unless its to something incredibly similar), but if after playing for a while you'd like to adjust your skills or trade out a feat I'll most likely be fine with that.
Tera Flinders |
Well its certainly helped cement Tera in my head a lot better.
DM Nate RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
Again, great job on the RP everyone!
Tera you can put a rank in stealth at second level if you like- there can be some 'off camera' training/practice in the next day or two. Also, I know there were bigger things going on at the time but I just want to make sure that you remember there was a passageway broken open behind the 'tapestry' in the Glassworks basement.
Sal- I'll get a post up about the journal for you before the funeral.
Tera Flinders |
Cool, figured there'd be a little time for some instruction and practice.
Also, did Brother Faustwick react at all to Tera's breakdown? Sorry if I didn't make it clear that was supposed to be happening in the moments right after we brought Roakkad in.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
Tera Flinders |
@Tera- sorry, yeah, he did... I knew I was forgetting something. I'll update that asap.
Happens to all of us. Don't sweat it. :)
Kaelaah |
Will get a post up later today... If the GM wants to push things along that's fine, I'll retcon... Suffice to say, Kaelaah won't be in his room when Zache knocks... They'll find him down at the beach watching the waves....
Apologies for slow posting rate (a really busy day yesterday and I barely managed to push my GM'd games along...)
DM Nate |
Feel free to keep RPing as you want. I'm pretty much going to leave it to you guys to advance things from here... at least two of you have info that could be shared/investigated; Ameiko didn't make it to the ceremony but she could be checked on; there's a fair number of NPCs you know whom you could talk to...
Let me know what you want to do.
Tera Flinders |
Nate, I hope you'll forgive me for the number of threads I'm about to open up.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
Tera Flinders |
I've got three things that I'd like to play out and I figured running them in parallel was better than in sequence to avoid bogging things down.
Zache Kovachi |
I know the way your mind works, and I'm worried.
Still trying to work on a build. Bards are hard. >.>
Tera Flinders |
Allow me to second Nate, though I'm sure his system mastery is much greater than mine.
And I am so glad that I had most of Tera's nightmare typed up beforehand. That post took me almost two hours to compose. I probably would have taken me three or four with having to do it all in one go.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy. I don't intend for Tera to be mopey for long, though there is probably going to be more of an edge to her now. That said, I've been surprised before by what my characters do, so who knows where this is going. :)
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
Rojava Brishen |
Eh, I'll also chime in to say I've built a fair number of bards, including a recent rebuild of Rojava. Bard is one of my favorite classes so I know it pretty well by now.
I'd be happy to help too.
Salomae Amsel |
Peeking in to say that I've not forgotten (and I'm not just blowing off posting), more that I've felt a little 'off' this week and so responding to the emotional turmoil that's been happening has been harder to do. Not in a 'this upsets me' way but more in a 'uhh...I can't focus on this' way. Hopefully I'll be able to get something up later tonight :)
Tera Flinders |
Well, just got home. I'll try to post in a little bit, but I need to update the games I run first.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
Tera Flinders |
Well, I was going to try posting again tonight, but it's too late and I'm too tired to think straight anymore. I'll pick up the other threads tomorrow.
Salomae Amsel |
Nah, I don't feel obligated to make emotional posts (and being mostly stoic at times like this is one of Sal's personality traits anyway) but I try not to let too much time go by without posting or at least not without letting a game know the reason why. Hopefully should be better now though, just had to get over that small hump :)
Kaede Mayumi |
Sorry of taking so long, and with such an anemic post too. Things got emotional, then complex, and looks at what I needed to write up felt like it was getting longer and longer, so I kept procrastinating on it (Which of course made things worse.....
Tera Flinders |
Sorry, and I apologize since I feel like I'm the one instigating the long, complex posts. Hopefully things will begin to get wrapped up and there won't be quite so many threads for everyone to keep track of.
Tera Flinders |
Oh noes! Hope they are getting better. :(
