Is it possible to make a Survival check to determine if this chill is going to be risky/bad for our wellbeing/etc?
DM Nate |
Sal's at +8 to survival... she'd guess that those of you with the cloaks that keep you warm (grant cold resist 1) would be totally fine but without a fire the others would risk some side effects from exposure. Basically, you'd have to make a Fort save for the night or take 1d4 non-lethal damage and wake up fatigued.
DM Nate |
Soooo...
I know we usually slow down over the weekend, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe some of you are struggling with indecision... or maybe nobody wants to be the first one to act and risk getting shot?
Part of me kind of likes the idea that all these still fairly inexperienced adventurers (who normally can get advice from these priests who are heavily invested in their lives) aren't really sure what to do when something is unexpectedly difficult... still, though, I'd like to get moving again. Would it be helpful if I offered a recap of what's been suggested/discussed, and/or other potential options that might occur to your characters?
Marcus Wovenbow |
I wouldnt mind a general rule that lets us move forward with a proposed action if there are no objections within the next 24 hours.
ie. move back along the coast until we find nets or reach Sandpoint
DM Nate |
Yeah, I know this is a busy time of year. I've been trying to go with the rule of 2 for the most part but you guys are still, technically, in combat... nobody's really made any suggestions on how to get out of that for me to move you forward with...
I mean, 'we make a run for it' would be fine and I can roll randomly for who takes whatever attacks come... or someone might want to offer some kind of target... or maybe someone has a way to cover your retreat... or maybe some or all of you want to try stealth checks and hope for the best...

Sorry, Between the snowstorm (don't you dare laugh Nate. I live in Alabama, 8 inches of snow is a firggin' blizzard) getting my house cleaned up, and no internet, I've not had much of a chance to post.
Kaede Mayumi |
8 inches in a day is a blizzard no matter where you live. It's just we have a snow making machine or 5 up here. The closest one I call Lake Erie.

I'm fried... I just submitted the third paper this week (since last Tuesday) and my brain hurts. I'm going to bed, no real post tonight.
Feel free to take some more liberties with your posts now... like, with not moving turn by turn. Sal got hit by that first arrow (for 9 iirc) and hit the thatching on her shot, but once the mist goes up there's no more archery to worry about and you can all get to a safe place.

I mean, 8 inches in how long? We're supposed to get about 8" tomorrow and I'm planning on driving 45 miles to school in the evening (and the same distance back at 10pm). If you watched the Bills/Colts game on Sunday they probably got 8+ inches just in the 4 hours they played, that was a snow storm. At the risk of sounding curmudgeonly, I can remember times we've gotten 4+ feet of snow in a day.
edit: I do also fully recognize, however, that the impact of a few inches of snow is very different in areas where there aren't armies of plows and salters, and everyone has winter tires (and some sense of how to drive in the snow).
Kaede Mayumi |
I'm by Akron, in the secondary snow belt so I've had bad storms, but nothing like Buffalo. and didn't Buffalo get 7 feet like 3 years ago?

And we had a second 'snow day' for the kids, the school were worried that the ice was quite treacherous so kept them away... here's hoping they can actually go to school tomorrow (I'm travelling to France this evening and if they have another day at home, my girlfriend will climb the walls!!!)
...and, in other news, our snowman hasn't started to melt yet - although we've had no fresh snow (nor are we expecting any now)...
Zache Kovachi |
What is this 'snow' you keep speaking of? *looks out window at melting asphalt*
DM Nate |
lol.
Funny side note: the whole 'took an arrow to the knee' thing is a euphemism for getting married (from dropping to one knee to propose). All those Skyrim guards weren't injured, they were husbands.
Zache Kovachi |
Are we in combat rounds? Zache might do something impulsive and stupid.
DM Nate |
@Zache- well... I haven't really been enforcing round-by-round for all the skill checks, but I suppose with the risk of suffocation we should go to combat rounds until Kaede is safe. note though, I've been assuming that everyone, including you, that could go down without rolls went in between Kaelaah (1st) and Kaede/Marcus (last)... so if you want to be impulsive you can do it from the bottom of the rope instead of the top (unless you really want to do it from the top)
Tera Flinders |
@Marcus: Roll Tide, though I'm not too hopeful about our chances against Clemson, though it'd be amazing and hilarious if both Alabama and Georgia got in for the championship. :D
@Sal: I would but it's all melted. :( (Only in Alabama can you have snow then 68 degree weather. (Rough in-head calculations has that at about 20 celcius))
Sorry all. I've been busy with holiday stuff and house cleaning. I'll try to get a post up tonight, but I'm not sure that I will.
On another note, I learned that you need two boxes of Jiffy mix to make enough cornbread for a large cast iron skillet tonight.

That happens up here too. I very distinctly remember the year when I was in college that it went from 70 degrees, to snowstorm in the course of a morning. Watching all the co-eds run from cover to cover in shorts that day was sorta entertaining.
Tera Flinders |
wait...
you live in the south and you're making cornbread from Jiffy mix?!?
isn't that, like, a lynchable offense down there?
Only in some areas. :P
Besides, I was born in Minot, ND and sound like a Yankee. Most assume I just don't know any better. Although the fact I don't have a recipe for from scratch cornbread doesn't help.
Now what will really get you lynched is walking into Tuscaloosa on gameday and shouting War Eagle or walking into Auburn during the same and shouting Roll Tide. Oh, and don't even joke about doing anything to the trees at Toomer's Corner except rolling them.

Just want to push this little nugget of goodness into the light where you good folks can see it... Frog God Games are, for 24 hours only, giving away free downloads of the Blight adventure, Bloody Jack. I have run the module here on the messageboards and, I'm sure my players will agree, it is a deliciously twisted monster... I can heartily recommend that you head over to the FGG website and download it.
Holiday Season, Free Download of Bloody Jack
You might need to set up an account with FGG and log in before it works... I tried to add yesterday's festive treat without being logged in and it didn't work - logging in cured that particular problem...
DM Nate |
Sorry for my slow down too- I'm really into crunch time with end of semester work... should be posting a little more regularly on Wednesday or Thursday.
Tera Flinders |
No need to apologize, either of you. Been feeling the holiday crunch myself.

So was it all of them dead or did some of them flee?

Hey guys, I've got work all day tomorrow and then I'll be heading out to see The Last Jedi with friends and family once I get home. If I've got any slow moments during work I'll try to sneak in a post but otherwise I'll catch up with the game either late tomorrow night or Tuesday :)
DM Nate |
@Marcus- lol. Part of me thinks that’s awesome, and part of me feels a little bad I didn’t have time to build that helpful NPC we talked about...
Zache Kovachi |
Okay, I'm sorry, but it's hot and I may be overlooking something because my brain is fried. Are the rolls I have to make replacing the take 10 I took in my last post? How far exactly do we have to swim? I'm just confused and don't know what the hell is going on anymore.
DM Nate |
I'm sorry- it was late and my post was way too vague. You all successfully made it to the little island. From that little island you have to make another swim out to the actual island that the keep is on the top of. This swim is a bit more dangerous (largely because the rope Marcus and Sal are dragging isn't braced nearly as well as it was last time), so I wasn't letting people take 10 this time (the threat of drowning makes it a stressful situation). With your speed Zache you only need 2 successful checks against DC 10, and as long as you beat DC 5 there's no consequence other than having to make another roll. And you get a +2 bonus to the check because of the rope.
If there's any other questions please let me know.
Kaelaah |
Kaelaah, is your banner correct? I healed everone to full, but I'm not sure if your burn gives you a new maximum?
Yeah, I think the burn can't be healed... so I think Kaelaah is at 31/31 with 1NL - thanks.
DM Nate |
Did you take burn today? I thought that all cleared up when you slept? Also, I don't have time to check right now but I thought that burn was 1 point per hit die (like 1 burn for you would equal 3 NL)?
Kaelaah |

Aha!!! You got me!!! Right on both counts...

Merry Christmas, or happy holidays all!
I know everyone’s busy- I hope you all have a chance to spend some meaningful time with those you love. Also (secondarily) holiday blessIngs are in effect for the 25th if you have a chance to post.
